Our take on the Kicker 11PES10C

Kicker has taken the idea of a powered subwoofer and turned it on its head. In the past, powered subwoofers have sacrificed performance in order to fit into a smaller space or or meet a lower price point. But now Kicker uses massive power and high-performance woofers so their PE SubStation™ line of powered subs can compete with custom systems built with separate amps, subs, and boxes, all while keeping the cost reasonable.

A powerful match
It can be tough matching subs, amps, and enclosures together. Kicker's taken the guesswork out of the process by creating the PES10C powered sub, matching a powerful 450-watt RMS amplifier with a 10" Solo Classic subwoofer, then housing them together in a sealed, compact box. This way, you won't have to waste time juggling specs — just focus on enjoying your bass.

Easy in, easy out
A quick-connect power harness and removable straps make it easy to pull this sub out of your vehicle, so you can get some storage space back in a pinch. The enclosure is only 8-1/2" deep so it'll fit in a variety of spaces, while the carpet covering will protect the enclosure and your vehicle against scratches and dents.

Installation note: If you're planning on using speaker-level outputs to connect the amp to the sub, Crutchfield recommends that you use this adapter which allows you to keep your amp's RCA jacks.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Kicker 11PES10C plays loud, tight, accurate base, for a 10" sub woofer. The "quick disconnect" is quite difficult compared to a similar 10" JL Audio product. This is a problem because my wife needs to be able to easily remove the speaker when additional space is needed. Playing at lower volumes leaves something to be desired, and the subs happy place is turned up loud where it really excels. I buy Made in USA when possible, this is made in China.

Pros: Great power, tight bass, loud.

Cons: Difficult removal of quick disconnect. Not the best as a stand-alone to fill in the missing bass range from a factory system. Made in China.

Decent bass, easy install

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm so happy that I went with this sub. I'm driving a 1998 Bulck Regal GS that has been very well taken care of so I decided that I needed to get rid of the crappy factory stereo and spend about half of what the car cost on that. So the one thing I didn't buy from Crutchfield was the head unit because I found it somewhere else for less, but I don't think I have a warranty. Anyway I went with the Pioneer 8100NEX, I got the JL Audio C5 5 1/4" component speakers in the front doors, then I went with the JL Audio C2 - 690tx 6x9s in the rear deck, and to power the speakers I went with the Rockford Fosgate Power T600-4. This system sounds perfect and this powered sub is awesome. If you don't want to go through the hassle of getting the sub(s), a box, another amp which btw would take up a lot more space then this is what you want to go with.

Pros: Takes up minimal space, can be easily removed if you need space , adds Deep thunderous bass to your system.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to add some bass to my 1972 Cutlass Supreme Convertible. After much research I decided that this was what I was looking for. Sounds great, it's solid, has a quick disconnect (so, I can remove it easily if needed), doesn't take up much room, and the best part was that Crutchfield has a 60 day return period.

Pros: Easy to install, quick disconnect, looks great, space saving, and really pounds.

Cons: None

One 10 inch woofer pumping out at 450 RMS and does not take up much space. It's a no brainer.... More than enough bass for listening to while inside your ride. Anything more and you'll be terrorizing the neighbourhood....

Pros: Bass Knob

Great Sub!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's alright, I guess. I've already blown the 2 15 amp fuses & I'm at a rig location with no access to more fuses, but it sounded ok before the fuses blew.

Pros: it's an amp & sub combo

Cons: it's an amp & sub combo

Crutchfield response on 7/16/2014 Crutchfield Tech Support has reached out to Dustin to see if we help him determine why the powered sub is blowing fuses. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent system all in one great sound for a 10 inch sub. Has a lot of power in such a small set up. If you don't want a box that takes up you whole trunk and has decent power that you can feel this is the one . It has a bass remote that you can put in your center consul so you can adjust your amp gains from the front seat .

Pros: Big power for such a small unit very easy to install. I like the quick connect wires it's so easy to remove and install

Cons: Nothing really maybe the price !!!!

Great System

Product Research

Overview: The SubStation PES10C is a sealed enclosure that houses a 10" Kicker Solo Classic subwoofer and a built-in class-D amplifier, outputting 450 watts RMS @ 14.4 volts.

Cone Material: The SoloKon design is a unique one-piece construction, using polypropylene material that moves as a lightweight piston, for improved control. The cone remains rigid, minimizing cone flex and distortion.

Surround: The tough, flexible rubber surround has a long-throw, positive-roll design, which controls extreme cone excursion and is tear-resistant. The surround is ribbed to ensure linear cone motion. The surround is stitched to the reinforced cone edge, making separation between them virtually impossible, even in the harshest conditions.

Basket Assembly: The Solo Classic utilizes a high strength stamped steel basket which features a low-profile open design and provides a solid foundation for the precision-aligned motor assembly.

Signal Input: The included signal input harness can be used with a speaker level or line level signal. The 10" harness is terminated with female RCA jacks. When using a speaker level input the RCA jacks can be cut off, or a speaker level to RCA adapter can be added (item number206KiSL, sold separately).

Low Pass Crossover: The amplifier's low pass crossover point is continuously variable from 50 to 200 Hz; the crossover slope is 12 dB per octave.

Subsonic Filter: In addition to the low pass crossover, the PES10C features a 24 dB/octave subsonic filter fixed at 25 Hz. Ultra-low frequencies that cannot be reproduced by a subwoofer do not become sound, but unnecessary oscillations that cause distortion. These frequencies also waste amplifier power and can damage the speaker. The built-in subsonic filter removes the frequencies below 25 Hz to improve the sound quality by eliminating harmful distortion.

Bass Boost: The bass boost circuit provides a variable (0-18 dB) signal boost centered at 40 Hz.

Status Indicator Light: There is a status indicator LED on the control panel on the left side of the enclosure; it lights Blue to indicate that the amplifier is turned on and operating normally and lights Red to indicate the amplifier's protection circuitry has been activated.

Remote Bass Level Control: The included remote bass level control lets you adjust the output level of the amplifier from anywhere in the vehicle. A 20' cable is included and when it's plugged in, the gain control on the side of the enclosure is bypassed. The remote bass level control can be mounted under the dash with the included mounting hardware, it has the following dimensions:

  • Width: 2.215"
  • Height: 1.193"
  • Depth: 1.718" (3.076" including the knob and cable)

Controls: All the PES10C's controls and connections are located on the left side:

  • Auto Turn-On: three position switch; choose Remote (amp turns on when +12 volts is applied to the remote turn-on wire), DC Offset (amp turns on when a 6 volt surge is detected from a speaker-level source on the signal inputs; in this mode the amp's remote turn-on wire acts as a +12 volt output to turn on another component), or Signal Sense (the amp turns on when an incoming audio signal is detected; in this mode the amp's remote terminal acts as a +12 volt output to turn on another component)
  • Phase: two position switch, the sub's phase can be easily inverted; 0° or 180°
  • Input Level: two position switch; choose Hi when using a speaker level input, Lo when using a line level input
  • Gain: rotary knob; continuously variable from 125mV to 5V when the Input Level switch is set to Lo, 250mV-10V when the Input Level switch is set to Hi
  • X-Over Frequency: rotary knob; set the low pass x-over point; continuously variable from 50 Hz to 200 Hz
  • Bass Boost: rotary knob; continuously variable from 0 to +18 dB

  • Remote Bass: 3.5mm mini-jack for use with the included remote bass level control
  • Fuses: two 15 amp ATO style fuses protect the amplifier
  • Signal Input: quick-connect jack for use with the included signal input harness
  • Power: quick-connect jack for use with the included power/ground/remote power plug:
    • Power: set screw terminal, up to 4 gauge wire
    • Ground: set screw terminal, up to 4 gauge wire
    • Remote: set screw terminal, up to 8 gauge wire

Yes it has auto on.[ RONALD  Feb 13, 2017 ]
Yes it has an auto on function... it comes with a remote wire but I don't use mine...[ STEPHEN  Feb 12, 2017 ]
It has an auto on function or you can use a remote wire. It also has a cool feature where if you use the auto on function that it puts power to the remote wire hook up at the sub so you can use that as a turn on signal for a different amps remote turn on[ HENRY  Feb 12, 2017 ]
I have it installed under my back seat behind my driver seat and it sounds amazing! Never had a problem with installing it or hiding wires or anything. Highly recommend it[ Jacob  Feb 20, 2016 ]
This baby rocks!! I purchased the one with the extra amp to power my factory speakers and i am more than pleased! Very clean but not over powering![ David  Feb 19, 2016 ]
Yes, I have installed it under the back seat of a Nissan Titan. (2014) It fits perfect, can't be seen unless you tell someone or turn up the volume. This installation is under the seat (bench style) type for this truck. The sound quality sounds exceeds expectations. I don't even have it turn up at 90% to 100%. It's more like at 50%. (Gain control) [ LUIZ  Feb 19, 2016 ]
Sorry brother my bro put it in the back of his Prius, so no clue!.[ MICHAEL S  Feb 19, 2016 ]
I dont think this wil fit under a seat but it sounds great behind the third row seats of my wifes gmc acadia. If you must go under seat check out kickers 8 in under seat powerd sub I have one under each front seat in my subaru wrx and they do a good job with out taking up any usable space.[ HENRY  Feb 19, 2016 ]
it's just a matter of measuring the space that want to put it in and comparing that to the measurements of the subwoofer enclosure which is listed under "features and specs".[ Luis  Dec 31, 2015 ]
I wouldn't know I do not own any Toyota truck. I know it does fit under the seat left or right (rear seat) of a 2014 Nissan Titan. It fits hidden away from passengers. The Kicker 11PES10C Sealed power is a great buy. If you want bass, buy this unit. You will not be disappointed. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. This sub gets 5***** rating ![ LUIZ  Dec 31, 2015 ]
The measurements can be found but under the dash of a Smart car seems very unlikely.[ Jason  Jan 08, 2016 ]
We don't have any dimensions on file in our research for the space under the dash in your '08 Smart Passion, however we did measure the area available in the rear hatch as follows: Width (side to side) = 39", Height = 13", Depth (front to rear) = 18" at bottom, 13" at top. That would likely be the best place to mount this sub.[ Larry  Nov 20, 2015 ]  Staff
No, it shouldn't be on at all times, only when there is power going to the subwoofer. Did you by chance wire it incorrectly to where it continuously draws power? With mine, the light always turns off when one of two situations happen: 1.) my car is off. and 2.) when the quick release relay for the power is disconnected. I honestly had someone install it for me. Hope this answers your question. Definitely check to ensure you're wired correctly at the connector to the amp, all the way back to the stereo head unit.[ JACOB  Sep 29, 2015 ]
The blue light on mine turns off after I turn the key off and remove it, has since I installed it in my 2012 Silverado. Id imagine that it's wired wrong on the power side[ HENRY  Sep 29, 2015 ]
