The 10CVR124 12" sub sports dual 4-ohm voice coils that give you more wiring options when setting up your system. The sub's cool-looking black finish highlights the potent low end you'll hear and feel. Boat owners: Kicker certifies the CompVR subs for marine use, so you can generate some serious bass waves out on the water.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. Most car amplifiers are stable down to 2 ohms in standard mode, or 4 ohms in bridged operation.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 300 and 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Pros: The cool look. The sturdy construction.

Cons: None at the moment.

Awesome all-around subwoofer

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have an Audiopipe APMI55100, putting out between 300 and 500 watts (I'm not sure) and this Kicker subwoofer. I have to say these CVRs are great. The cone is attached to the surround with stitching. I wish it had more convenient terminals on the voice coils, like the ALpine Type-R. I had the type-r to compare. The CVR does just as good as long as the watts aren't above 400 or 500. Well done Kicker!

Pros: construction, sound, functions well in small ported enclosures (1.7 cubic feet)

Cons: older style of connecting the voice coils

Smh from Minnesota on 9/24/2015

I have two of the cvrs running down to 1(ish ohm) load, connected to my Rockville phenom m3 (great powerful affordable amp) in a plexiglass box. These sound amazing and to those that say otherwise my suggestion is to adjust your amps and tune your highs/mids to get the best quality. Crutchfield is always suggesting to replace factory speakers and its beneficial especially when you're trying to get a lot of bass

Pros: Look great. Sound fantastic as long as you know how to wire them and power them properly.

Cons: Nothing to bad to say but you can get a pair of these cheaper elsewhere... But then again you lose the crutchfield customer service and feel like you cheated on them... Sorry crutchfield :'(

livin loud

Best 12" inch subs with out breaking bank

John R from Alabama on 7/26/2015

i have 2 of these in a certified kicker ported box with a 1000 JX jl audio amp and I have to say it beats no it kills I have kicker door speakers with a kicker amp and you still can barely hear your music. The bass level on my stereo is at -2 and rattles everything no one can compete with me at my school. These subs make my car sound like a concert. All in all if you want a good 12" sub this is it you get 2 of them you won't here your self think

Pros: get a good amp and a good stereo nothing to cheap and you will killing it through the streets

Cons: yeah it sucks to much power rpms drop when bass hits nothing a capacitor or upgraded alternator can't handle

Neil from Harrisonburg VA on 3/24/2015

I looked and listened to just about every sub woofers you can name. JL was my choice, but a sales rep at Crutchfield told me about these. I spent a month trying to figure out what sub woofers would be best for me. I finally broke down and bought two of these and threw them into a sealed SO box. Running 500 watts apiece off of an mtx amp. Let me be honest, these woofers are absolutely amazing! From fit to finish they are beautiful! They produce amazing bass and will blow your mind! I am running polk components all around also powered by mtx and this tops it off! Do yourself a favor and buy a set!

Pros: You can't beat this woofer

Cons: Not a single thing

Nice amp

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wow I have bass now! Dimensions for open and closed boxes included. We purchased a kicker subwoofer enclosure that is vented. There is more bass volume then I will ever use. I plan to build a closed enclosure as the bass is supposed to be more crisp and I don't need all of the volume from the vented box.

Pros: Plenty of bass!

Cons: Takes up a lot of trunk space

For this sub, I'm glad I purchased it. It's a good deep clean bass and I have no regrets spending this much money. I now have 2 of these in the back of my trunk and with it throbbing and a dip in with the windows close, it's seriously hard to breath. Hahaha I love it

Beastmode Subs

Anonymous from Oak Island, NC on 10/21/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these subs 3 weeks ago and they are simply amazing. When I got them I only had a 1000 watt a/b amp and it only was giving them 250 watts rms each. Even then they sounded pretty good, recently upgraded to an Pioneer Gm-d8601 which I also purchased from this site. I wired them in parallel for 1 ohm and these things hit HARD. As far as how long these subs will last I don't know because the short time I've owned them, but the build quality seems excellent. Would buy these again and definitely recommend these to anyone who wants some loud good sounding bass.

Pros: *Loud *Sound great when supplied enough power *Good Price * Easy to connect

Cons: * Haven't owned long enough to find any

Best all around subwoofer

socghost from Virginia Beach, Virginia on 10/21/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is one of the best subs I have ever owned. I have loved car audio since before I could drive, and have had just about every brand under the sun. This sub fills in all the requirements for a great all around speaker. I have put every kind of music through it and it just keeps on going... Its like the energizer bunny of subwoofers. It has a great frequency range, good power handling, versatile wiring options, as well as looking great. I had an older version of this sub that was destroyed by a faulty amplifier and when it got eaten, you best believe I replaced it with this newer model of the same speaker. You just cant be what you get for the price.

Pros: Frequency range Power handling Versatile wiring options Stylish look Durable

Cons: While I get the updated look, I sort of prefer to look of the old solobarics, smooth inverted dome. So if I were to change one thing it would be that. The + - terminals on the back are arranged sort of funny, when wiring they can be easy to cross and accidentally wire series instead of parallel, so pay attention when wiring.

Lovin the CVRs

Got the CVR 12s tucked behind the seats of my regular cab chevy and they do an awesome job. My amp blows and these things still bump like its nothing. Couldnt ask for anything better.

Kicker Pounds

Kick'n SS from Kiladelphia, Pa on 6/25/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I went with the 12" CVR b/c Crutchfield doesn't sell the Kicker CVX (what's up with that anyway) and Crutchfield doesn't have the Solo-Classic available in 12" (again what up with that). I'm a loyal customer to Crutchfield since 1997. Prices continue to be competitive thus Crutchfield is the place I go to first. Just wish there was more of a selection on Kicker Subs. So my one critique of Crutchfield is the subpar selection (I won't mention competitors). Crutchfield research department is buy far the best out there. Keep the prices competitive and I'm a loyal customer 4-life......thanks Bill, you continue to run a top notch organization!!!

Pros: 2-12"s as a package deal, you can't beat That price!!! I only needed one "12 for my new Camaro SS, so the second one is my spair. Or I might drop the spare CVR in the Z06 vette (again I wish Crutchfield had the SOLO Classic in 12" but they don't. In the SS I have 1-12" CVR in a sealed box (1.25cuft). Wired to a Kicker ZX.500.1 wired down to 2ohms. Thus I'm pushing all the Amps power (500 watts, well 592 watts per the birth sheet) to this sub and it pounds hard in a sealed.

Cons: Does NOT have the accurate bass compared to others. It's loud, but the SQ is 3 to 4 stars, the accuracy of the bass just isn't there. Why kicker has to sacrifice pure SQ for SPL these days is beyond me. Again, the CVR was my third choice since Crutchfield doesn't sell the 12" CVX or Solo-Classic. Overall if your looking for loud, the CVRs are great! As always kicker builds their Subs to last and take the (my abuse). Try that with a foam surround (um JL) or a paper cone (um Rockford).

Great for the $$$

Timmy from Aurora, Il on 2/24/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub went in the smaller vented Sound Ordinance box. This sub's spec asked for a larger enclosure, but I didn't have the room. It was installed in a Mitsubishi Lancer RallyArt powered by a Sound Ordinance M1500. The whole package worked very well together. It hit low and clean and the punch was very tight. If you had the room, I would suggest the larger box to get a little more volume for the lows, but I was happy on how this turned out. It was loud enough to be heard outside of a sealed car (windows and doors closed) from 500', but not obnoxious enough to make the entire car rattle.

Pros: Hits hard and deep without breaking the bank.

Cons: none

Wanted to contact u and let u know how all has gone. And feel free to publish. DREAM SYSTEM, I have had many systems over time costing thousands. well now I have the best sounding sytem I have ever had for a total investment of $812 (includes all wires and cables) And yes I managed to get every item ON SALE BIG TIME, except one. Total would have been approx $3500. Running 4 kicker 11ks693,s pr of tweeters, pr of 4x6 dash (only because of wattage240) new kicker compVR 10vr124-12". Sealed sweet 1" custom box. 1- 4 channel 600 watt amp. 1 600 watt mono amp(2ohm) stable. And CLARION CZ501 Head unit. IN a full size pick up. Well there was apparently a local radio comp goin on with the young crowd. So I decided to pull in and check it out. And eventually they wanted to hear mine. MAN THEY WERE BLOW AWAY, they voted mine the best. Could not believe how they could hear every note crystall clear and no bass muffle or flubber what so ever. And just flat out scream, kinda of made this old man feel good.(THANKS GUYS) When a police officer came he was very pleasant and has asked if I would mine doing his daughters car. when my crossovers come in will sound even that much better. Hope I can stop by next time I come thru stillwater and let you all listen to what you have helped create. Been doing systems for about 30yrs and this one is amazing. No one still belives the cost and to have this quality. WELL DONE TO ALL AT THE KICKER CO. LIVIN LOUD AND PROUD TILL IM IN THE GROUND

Enclosure Compatibility

Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 4 ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2 ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8 ohm load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4 ohm load.

Cone Design: The Comp VR's super-rigid injection-molded polypropylene cone features 360-degree back bracing to completely eliminate flex and distortion.

Surround: The optimized ribbed Santoprene surround allows extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL. The surround is double-stitched to the cone to add a mechanical fastener to the chemical adhesives. This prevents the cone and surround from separating in the harshest conditions.

Spiralead Tinsel Leads: The Comp VR features durable Spiralead tinsel leads, which are woven into the woofer's progressive-roll polycotton spider, for added strength and reliability.

Basket and Motor Assembly: The strong steel basket features perimeter venting to help cool the high-temperature voice coil wires and prevent breakdown. The overall motor structure design is based on technology found in Kicker's flagship Solo-Baric line of subwoofers, and allows the sub to handle more power and take more abuse. The high-mass solid pole piece removes potentially damaging heat.

Speaker Terminals: The spring loaded, nickel-plated terminals provide solid connections for speaker wire up to 8 gauge. Single banana plugs and pin connectors will also fit.

Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker Comp VR speakers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The high-performance suspension system makes the speaker very stiff out-of-the-box. Approximately 2 weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A broken-in subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

Rubber Magnet Boot: A black rubber boot covers the outside edge of the magnet structure to improve the cosmetics of the woofer and protect the magnet during installation.

Enclosure Compatibility

Power Handling: The power handling specifications differ according to the type and size of the enclosure. The power handling specifications assume that both voice coils are in use. Note: Both voice coils in a dual voice coil speaker should always be connected.

Recommended Sealed Box Volume:

  • Compact (minimum enclosure volume): 1.0 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 400 watts RMS (200 watts per voice coil)
  • SQ (maximum enclosure volume): 4.6 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 300 watts RMS (150 watts per voice coil)

Recommended Vented Box Volume:

  • Compact: 1.75 cu/ft; 2.5" x 12.5" port opening; 20" port depth; the woofer can handle up to 300 watts RMS (150 watts per voice coil)
  • SQ: 2.25 cu/ft; 3" x 12.5" port opening; 20.5" port depth; the woofer can handle up to 300 watts RMS (150 watts per voice coil)

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system. [ Krissy  Jan 25, 2015 ]  Staff
What about wiring 4 of them off a monoblock amp .. What would you recommend [ chase  May 21, 2014 ]
I'm looking for more bass without touching the gain on the amp or bass boost. I still have my factory radio and factory speakers [ stephen  May 14, 2014 ]
I have one in a custom sealed box. 2013 Camaro. It puts out nice power and good sound. I have a 12cx300.1 kicker amp and it can take all of the power from the amp. I don't know what sound you are looking for but if you have two of these and a nice size amp with air space I don't think that you can go wrong. [ GREG C  May 13, 2014 ]
The max Rms you can get wit these is about 400. An one of the best amp to run these speakers is a kicker zx750.1 which is what i have. The speakers peak out at about 800watts and although this amp say its maxes at 750watts per channel, kicker underrates their amps. My amp makes 932watts per channel. The amps birth sheet told me. So the amp is plenty enough to power those speakers. [ BRANDON  May 13, 2014 ]
The spec is 800W Peak 400W RMS Rigid SoloKon cone Double Stitched Surround Ribbed Santoprene Surround Spring-Loaded Terminals Spiralead Tinsel Leads So IMO a two channel 400 watt per channel @4ohm or a mono block 800 watt @ 2ohm [ WILLIAM  May 13, 2014 ]
This will depend on the amp set-up that you have. You can find subwoofer wiring diagrams on our website here: [ Jeff  Feb 17, 2014 ]  Staff
