Overview

Our take on the Kicker 41DSC654

As if Kicker wasn't already stiff competition for any affordable car speaker, their DS-Series speakers once again raise the bar. In addition to providing excellent sound, these Kickers offer a thin profile that allows them to fit in more vehicles.

Here's the Kicker

As if Kicker wasn't already stiff competition for any affordable car speaker, their DS-Series speakers once again raise the bar. In addition to providing excellent sound, these Kickers offer a thin profile that allows them to fit in more vehicles.

Solid sound

The 41DSC654 6-1/2" speakers will give you clarity like you've never had with your factory speakers. The 2-way design recreates a dynamic sound, dedicating the highs to the PEI domed tweeter while sending the midrange and lows to the 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer. The 41DSC654's highly sensitive design conjures hefty volume even from low-powered factory radios, so you can crank your tunes and keep 'em blasting the whole ride. Grilles included.

Highlights:

  • 2-way car speakers (pair)
  • 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer with ribbed polyester foam surround
  • 1/2" PEI domed tweeter
  • power range: 2-60 watts RMS (240 watts peak power)
  • frequency range: 40-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 90 dB
  • top-mount depth: 1-13/16"
  • impedance: 4 ohms
  • grilles included
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

I replaced stock speakers with these kicker replacements. Really good sound from a stock radio

I replaced stock speakers with these kicker replacements. Really good sound from a stock radio

Pros: Crutchfields made it a perfect install

Cons:

These speakers hurt my ears. Way too bright/sharp.

2010 Honda Insight
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was looking to replace my muddy, factory speakers from my 2010 Honda Insight with something better. Unfortunately, these speakers are the other extreme. One reviewer made the analogy: "Old speakers...butter knives, Kickers...razor blades." This a plus for him and he left a positive review. For me, the speakers are way too bright/sharp, so much so that they make me wince at times. Often, I have to turn the music way down or off. Even with the bass turned all the way up and treble all the way down, sibilance is still an annoyance, cymbals and snare drums are too noticeable. There is no bass, and I think the low to mid-range is lacking also. Thought these might get better over time, but they haven't and I waited too long to send them back. I don't know if more needs to be done to get these to sound right. If so, that was not why I purchased them. My intent was to just pop out the old speakers, put in the new, and have a decent improvement to the sound quality. Didn't happen. I am still suffering with the speakers in my car.

Pros: Easy enough to install.

Cons: Way too bright. Bass, low to mid-range frequencies lacking.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are some great speakers, I bought 2 pairs to install in my 06 Colorado and just bought them again to install in my 2012 Colorado. They sounded good off the deck power, but this time around I have them amped up via Alpine KTP-445U Power Pack and wow does it make a huge difference. I used to listen to my music at 10 on the volume dial and rock out at 15, now with them amped up it's more like I listen to my music at 5 and rock out between 8-10.

Pros: Crisp and clean even when amped up with the Alpine Power Pack, good value for the money.

Cons: After hearing the amazing FOCAL speakers, I should of waited to order these.

I needed to replace the speakers in the front of our Lexus RX300. We are not really audiophiles but we do appreciate great sound. These speakers did provide the sound as a good as the OEM speakers and were very reasonably priced too.

Pros: Price point, sound quality, install kit

Cons: None really. The kit was comprehensive and easy to install.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm no audiophile but these are a terrific replacement for stock mid-range speakers. I used these to replace the stock door panel mid-range speakers in a 2009 Chevy Malibu. For the price point these are perfect replacement speakers for a reasonable cost. The only reason I'm not giving full 5 stars is because I had a very disappointing experience with telephone support. I called because I really needed help, not to be talked down to by some young punk kid with an attitude.

Pros: Reasonable price for a good sounding stock replacement.

Cons: Bad customer service experience. People call you guys because we need help, not attitude.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers fit perfectly and work great; a tremendous upgrade over the OEM speakers. Nice of Crutchfield to include the free adapters. That said, I decided to order Xscorpion HSA-6554 adapters which do not require drilling holes in the door panels - they're drop in replacements. Just mount the speakers to the adapters, and press into place.

Pros: Dramatic improvement in sound; no issues with depth; good fit.

Cons: None.

Pleasantly surprised by the dynamics of the highs and lows on these speakers after trading out my factory speakers for them on my Dodge pickup. I'm not a speaker aficionado in the least but the gentleman at Crutchfield was a great help and the results are undeniable.

2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Even with the weak factory head unit in my 2000 Silverado, these 6.5" speakers in the doors are definitely up to the task. The lows are great, even with the underpowered receiver, and so is the headroom. The basslines, toms, and kick drums stand out as they should. That's not to dismiss the rest; the mods and highs are equally there. That's the key thing. These speakers deliver a full range and good volume even when underpowered. Looking forward to upgrading my head unit, and letting these really shine. I expect they'll clear up at high volumes with more wattage. I'd buy these again in a heartbeat, and suggest them to anyone; especially if they don't have a sub for low end reinforcement. The only speakers I've heard this small with more bass are Bose.

Pros: Great sound and volume, even with low wattage stock radios. Lots of bass for a small speaker.

Cons: You don't have them yet

I had stock speakers for a long time. They cracked and popped, sounded like junk. After installing these front speakers with my after market stereo, my mind was blown. Super easy install! I've had them installed for over a week now and cant stop smiling everytime i get in my car. I recommend these speakers over most of the other ones. Have a very powerful punch for the price you're paying. They even convinced me to get a pair for the rear deck. On top, i plan on getting an amp and using these guys to there limit. I cant even imagine what they will sound like with there full power. 10 outta 10 for these guys!

Pros: - Great Sound - Great Price - Easy Install

Cons: - Can't think of any!

These went into a 2005 Ram Quad Cab rear doors. I think I had to drill three new holes (simple enough) to secure them, but a couple of the holes were on the radius of the door mounting surface.

Pros: Nothing really stands out.

Cons: As with the Kicker 41DSC6934 that went in the front doors, the sound is underwhelming. In the review of those referenced speakers, I did acknowledge the location and factory radio are likely not allowing full potential of the speakers.

This was a great replacement from the factory speakers in my truck. You won't win any speaker comp's with a set of these, but the speakers work very well and are a great upgrade over stock. The high's are good, the low's are good, it's a mid level speaker and does the job very well. This was recommended by a buddy that has the higher end KS series, and Kicker has done a great job with this DS series line!!

Pros: Great sound, inexpensive, easy to install, plug-n-play.......would definitely recommend. Great mid-level speaker.

These were purchased as an upgrade from the factory speakers. After chatting with a Crutchfield tech, he recommended the Kickers for the rear deck and Infinity's for the front doors. Not sure why he wouldn't suggest the Infinity's all around? The Kickers are a good upgrade from the factory units but not as good as the Infinity units I installed in the front.

Pros: Great price

Cons: Sound quality a little flat. Supplied brackets did not fit which required some modification to the rear deck to fit the speakers properly under the factory grills.

2013 Hyundai Veloster
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

At this price point, great speaker for the money. Provides great backfill in the rear of my Veloster Turbo. No crackles, pops, etc. Just clean sound. These aren't bass bangers, but are perfect for the rear of your car, since 80% of the sound you are hearing while driving, its being dominated by your fronts. I can't say how good these are if they are in the front, because I normally buy component sets for that use.

Pros: Kicker coaxials always seem to sound good to my ears. vs pioneer/kenwood, which I can't hear as much midrange out of. I'm sure a lot of that is just due to the intricacies of speaker placement in cars and the varied forms of amplification. That said, I've never had a kicker speaker installed in my car that I didn't think was fantastic.

Cons: The cons revolve around the installation. Don't attempt this yourself on a veloster, unless you are a professional. Drilling out rivets, and removing seats has a lot of room for a variety of errors. Instead, buy from crutchfield and give the tech your instructions to work with, because he is going to need them. It took them 5 hours to do my car, and I was told that I should have been charged double because of the difficulties with changing the speakers.

Perfect Painless Upgrade.

Williamp from Oak Ridge, TN on 10/22/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these in the mid-panel location on a 2010 Sienna minivan. They sound great compared to the stock speakers, especially with a new receiver (Pioneer AVH-4100NEX). The only glitches I encountered were with the adapter plate; the third hole to attach to the factory bracket did not line up properly, but I secured with with some improvisation and a drill, and the wiring adapter harness negative connector needs to be bent a little in order to fit over the Kicker spade connectors.

Pros: Great sound. Solid improvement over factory speakers. 15 minute job.

Cons: Some minor installation glitches.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pretty decent speaker for the money - as another reviewer mentioned they need a week or so to 'break in' - I've had to adjust the eq. in my stereo a couple of times since the install to get the best response for my listening preferences - these speakers deliver excellent mid and crisp high frequency performance - bass is a little lacking for a Kicker brand, but they are only 6" speakers - however, the bass is acceptable for my ears...for now

Pros: Excellent cost for the quality Install was straightforward and without issue thanks to the free adaptor rings and wiring connectors

Cons: Bass response is slightly lacking, compared to the tired old fcty speakers they replaced, but acceptable

These speakers are significantly better than the stock speakers that I had in my a scion xb. Only problem I had was with the installation instructions stating that I had to remove some screws from my back panel where I really had to remove some off-sized Allen screws. I've had these in my car for about a week. It was unknown to me when I bought my car, someone had put really crappy aftermarket speakers in. They didn't even do a good job installing them. (zip ties/duct tape) This is definitely an improvement over what was there and I am happy with my purchase. The sound is crisp and clear, and for just some speakers, the bass and midrange aren't bad either. Would definitely recommend these to a friend.

Pros: Good sound and bass easy to install comes with some hardware.

I thought I loved the Massive Audio SX6 Slim Line I had installed back i December of 2011 but the KICKER DSC65 is quite exceptional. The Bass is tight the way I like to enjoy my music and so resonant and precise. They mate well with the 90db Pioneer TS-110 Tweeters I purchased a few years ago and has given me again the sparkling sound stage clarity that I've come to appreciate. Thanks again Crutchfield.

Pros: Precision and tightness of the mid-bass range

Cons: NONE

2012 Accord

Craig from New York on 9/26/2015

2012 Honda Accord
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speakers work well. They are a big improvement to the sound of the stock system. They provide a definite brighter and clearer sound due to the coaxial design. Just using factory HU so bass is slightly lacking but that's why man invented sub-woofers. I bought these for the rear and front doors. They were simple to install, I ended up slightly modifying the the provided bracket by drilling out the main hole that the stock bolt goes in. I just counter sunk the hole for the stock bolt so it fit flush with the top of the bracket. The speakers now fit flush on top of the bracket and the speaker mount holes all lined up. I didn't need to drill any new hole into the metal frame/doors of the car as the provided instructions stated to do. This should work for most Honda speaker locations in 2006 and later models that use this mounting bracket design.

Pros: Compact design fit in the tight spaces. Perfect power output that match most stock HU's. Good price point. It's made by Kicker!

Cons: Would be nice to have low and high pass filter designed into the speaker so they are filtered to the tweeter and woofer.

There ok...

While Crutchfield included mount adapters, if you're willing to spend a little extra time, you can actually remove the structure of the factory unit and re-use the OEM mounts with these speakers fitting perfectly on the surface of the OEM mount / speaker wiring connector!

Pros: Very clear and crisp regardless of music or talk show for that matter. Overall there a lot better than my factory speakers depending on the music it can do a lil punch

Pros: Sound, vastly improved bass, plug & play, great value for the cost

I have a 2011 siverado. I switched the driver front door speaker 1st and i could tell immediately that it was not as good as the stock speakers, especially on the low end range. I guess you get what you pay for

Pros: I guess they would be better than extremely cheap speakers but I think newer vehicle stock speakers are very comparable to these aftermarket

Cons: Waste of time and money to realize it's not worth it

Good speakers at their price point. Strong, clear mid and high tones with better bass response than expected for such small woofers. No, the bass won't thump your chest, but it'll rattle your door panels without distorting. Great factory speaker upgrade/replacements.

Pros: Price, Sound Quality, ease of installation

Cons: They don't defy physics.

Great speakers for my car

1997 Ford Escort
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these Kicker speakers to replace the factory speakers in my car. I also replaced the rear speakers with a set of Kickers at the same time. The audible difference was so good I would have been content with just putting in the speakers, but I had ordered a Kenwood KDC-BT758HD CD Receiver as well. When I had the speakers installed behind the factory radio I thought the difference was amazing, but it was nothing to what it was after the new radio went it in. Now, even with rising gas prices, I look for excuses to get out for rides in the car! The front and rear speakers are two way speakers so bass is not over powering, but it is more than adequate for my needs. I hear nuances to music I was completely missing before the new system was installed. Overall great products and a very good price.

Pros: Installation was straight forward requiring only slight modifications for a perfect fit.

Cons: None that I can think of in my application!

These are a nice upgrade over stock speakers. Bass is not great but substantially improved (get a sub if you need to thump). As usual, Crutchfield supplies everything you need for a nice install. Wiring is plug and play and bracket is good quality. Bracket needs minor modification to be used in the dash. Great value.

Pros: Great improvement over stock speakers. Fits both dash and roll bar (sound bar) in Jeep JK. Price is right.

Cons: Moderately complicated install, especially in the dash. Minor modification to bracket required for dash install.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was the first time that I have ordered from Crutchfield and the items and experience were great. I purchased speakers that were slightly larger than stock, and Crutchfield confirmed they would fit with the use of an included adapter. The adapter was a total of 3 screws and lined up with my stock openings (very easy to use and install). Additionally, they included wire adapters as well that were plug and play - very easy. Finally, I received my purchase within 3 business days at no extra charge...Wow Crutchfield. I am more than impressed and you have created a buyer for life if you continue with this service! Thank you. The speakers themselves - I am a Kicker fan already as I have a set in my restomod. These do not disappoint for the price! The sound comes through clear and clean, along with a very nice amount of bass with my stock stereo system! I was impressed with the sounds I got for the price I paid. I have not gone through the trouble of installing an amp and all that jazz in my PT Cruiser that these speakers went into, so I am very satisfied with the kick that I'm getting from these. I can crank them up with bass and treble without a problem and they sound great and of course I look cool.

I installed these with the Alpine Power Pack amp and they sound excellent! Much better than the 6.5 inch Kenwoods in the front. They handle the power and bass way better. If I can find a home for the Kenwoods, maybe I will replace them with the Kickers.

Pros: Great sound!

Cons: None for the speakers-but beware, if you are installing these speakers on a Honda Accord, the Scosche SAHC634 Speaker Mounting Brackets are not a good fit. You will need to modify them. This took me more time than tearing apart the car to get to the speakers which in a 2013 Accord, requires the entire back seat to be removed-not too bad though. The problem with these brackets is both on the front and rear install. I wish Crutchfield would come up with a better bracket for their customers.

I bought this set of Kickers 6.5 speakers set to replaced my 8 years old Kenwood 6.5 set that I have on my Honda Civic 2003. After all time of pounding them, they were sounding like cardboard boxes. Believe me when I tell you, this Kickers are great buy for the money. The level of fidelity is awesome and, I must say that the Kenwoods that I have, had a Disadvantage against the JBL'S 6X9 that I have in back on my car. I never really had the level sound quality in the front of my car but with this Kickers, I finally have that sound levelling that was looking for. It took me 8 years, but, hey, as you know, I had get my moneys worth out of those Keenwoods I bought back in a days. Trust me this Speakers are worth every penny.

Hooked these up in a 2006 Scion TC with a factory head unit and a Alpine 4ch KTP-455u amp. Running the crossover at 120hz in the front and 80hz in the rear. These speakers are really really bright. Had to actually turn down the treble setting on my head unit to 2 to prevent my ears from bleeding Vocally they are outstandingly an improvement over factory. If you're looking for lower range frequencies then consider adding a subwoofer because these are definitely lacking in that department. These would be great as a full stereo sound package. I doubt a mid level sub would be able to drown these out. Overall very happy with these speakers. Would buy them again.

Pros: Definitely an improvement over factory speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these because of my past experience with Kicker speakers and I am very impressed once again with the quality of this product and the clarity of sound! I was weary to purchase these at first after reading multiple reviews of these not producing much low end. After more research I found that was the case with many other models and brands and since i'm only powering these speakers with the receivers amplifier I wasn't expecting tons of bass anyway. After installing these and my new Pioneer DEH-X6700BT receiver, I found these speakers produced very adequate bass for a 6 1/2" woofer, even more than enough! I know there are some complaints out there, but it seems that if you have a receiver with decent wattage per channel, some kind of loudness control or bass boost control, you can produce very satisfactory low end! All in all I am very happy with these speakers from Kicker!

Pros: Clarity, good low end, good quality materials

Cons: None

Well Worth The Money

CyN from North Carolina on 3/4/2015

The factory speakers for my 1996 Saturn SL, were simply put, atrocious. I was looking for speakers with reasonable sound quality for a just as reasonable price, and these Kickers more than satisfied that description. The clarity of the sound is excellent, and even at high volumes the speakers don't give off a tinny or rattly sound. With the exception of slightly vague instructions relating to the brackets required in installing the speakers, the installation was smooth. These speakers are much more than you'd expect to get when putting down a few bucks. Also impressive was Crutchfield's customer service. They were incredibly patient with me, and helped guide me toward purchasing these excellent speakers.

Pros: Price, Clarity, Installation

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My 16 year old has a pretty cool 1999 Wrangler Sahara. After upgrading the non-factory head unit, the rear speakers were exposed...and blown. We needed replacements. I called Crutchfield and asked a few questions. After 5 minutes of sharing information about the application, the new head unit, and what my son was looking for out of new speakers, our rep stunned me by recommending a less expensive speaker. We talked discussed the advantages of going to a 6.5" speaker over the 5.25". He told me that minimal alterations to the soundbar may be needed, but the added sound quality would be well worth it. The Infinty 5.25" speakers we replaced were good in the Sahara, but the Kicker 6.5s sound incredible in comparison. Best of all for me is the fact that there was Zero alteration needed in the soundbar, especially since it has been 30 years since I've installed any kind of car audio equipment. Upgrading the Clarion speakers in the dash is next...

Pros: Easy installation, great price & service, fantastic sound for a 6.5" speaker, especially in a Jeep Wrangler.

Cons: The only con is that I didn't do this sooner.

I bought this pair of speakers (along with the Kicker 41CST204 tweeters) to replace an Infinity 6030cs component system. I was not disappointed. These speakers are really loud and handle distortion better than some of the more expensive speakers I've had in this setup. They are built better and the material allows for cleaner midrange bass (my sole reason for buying them). I see a lot of reviews here about the bass, which should be handled by the subwoofer with these types of speakers. Excellent factory and aftermarket speaker upgrade. If you want to get bass out of a door speaker, be prepared to pay a lot more than this and have them running off a channel amp.

Pros: Pricing, nicely built (to last), extra parts, low distortion at high levels, good midrange bass.

Cons: None that I have discovered.

Cons: - Mid-range is a little weak

I bought these speakers to replace the base speakers in my 2015 Jeep Wrangler roll bar. The speakers sound better than stock , but they do have a lot of bass that distorts easily, probably because of the low wattage from the stereo.

Pros: price is good , sound is better than stock, fit my jeep perfect with the Crutchfield supplied adapters.

Cons: bass distorts

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound is crisp and clean but very mid and high focused. There is no punch or depth to the low tones. It might be more a factor of 6.5" speakers as opposed to something bigger than these speakers specifically but even with the "bass" spectrum on my EQ cranked all the way there is hardly any low end.

Pros: Clean sound, no distortion until very high volume.

Cons: Poor low end bass.

There are better sounding speakers out there but not at this price. These replaced a pair of Pioneer TS-A1675R speakers. The Kicker speakers have a deeper richer sound more so than the tinny sounding Pioneers. Not quite as much treble as the Pioneers but the fullness of sound produced by the Kickers makes them the better choice if you like your music loud like I do.

Pros: Can be played loud without sounding tinny or screechy. Quality construction.

Cons: None for the price.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these based on other user ratings and of course the price. I also purchased separate Kicker tweeters to replace the factory ones. These are for a 2007 350Z. All of the speakers in the car are now Kicker. The speakers are far better than stock! I was actually shocked to see how low quality the speakers were in a 350Z Enthusiast model. They aren't the Bose upgrade but you'd still expect more than Clarion speakers with a magnet no larger than a quarter. The Kickers are very clear and don't distort at higher volumes (running on Pioneer Double Din 50x4 deck). The Crutchfield install instructions were very clear and easy to follow. I do not have a sub installed as I'm just looking for a clear sounding system with some decent mid bass which these speakers deliver. The speakers came with face plates (which I did not use), mounting screws and wires.

Pros: Sound and price

Cons: None so far

I ordered these as a Christmas gift for a friend and the ordering experience was very easy. We were all a little confused when the installation hardware that was supposed to be included wasn't when he opened it Christmas day and like a dummy I had deleted my emails with the confirmation numbers once it had arrived. Thankfully, Jasan from the Product Support Live-Chat was super helpful and arranged to have the hardware sent out to us immediately even though it turned out to be an error on my part for forgetting to include the vehicle information so they would know which hardware to send. Wonderful customer service and I already know they speakers sound great since my friend bought these same ones for the front of his car a few months ago ;-)

For years I have read that installing aftermarket speakers is a simple and effective upgrade for car stereo but was always skeptical. Wow, was I wrong! I installed these Kicker DSC654's in the doors of my sons 07 Cobalt along with a pair of DSC6934's in the rear deck, retaining the factory head unit. Holy #$%%&!!!! Fantastic sound. Crisp highs, un muddled mids, punchy bass. And the sound doesn't fall apart at high volume. It was a bit of work, even for a handy guy with a garage full of tools. (Car interiors are not made to be removed), but the end result was worth it. I bought the speakers based on customer reviews and they were right.

Bought these to replace the stock (blown) speakers in my daughters' 03 Beetle. They sound much better than the stock ones, even with the OE radio. My only complaint is not much bass, but it seems all the speaker makers expect you to fill your trunk with subwoofers. Why can't somebody make a nice 6 1/2" replacement speaker, at a decent price, with good bass? They did before. She wants a new receiver for Christmas, so maybe they'll sound better with that.

Pros: Better than OE

Cons: Not enough base,

Karl from Utah on 12/16/2014

2001 Dodge Durango
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome upgrade for a 2001 Durango with Infinity sound system. Massive improvement over stock Infinity speakers. Stock head radio setup runs these speakers perfectly, and let's just say most normal teenagers are not even going to drive around listening to music as loud as the system can now go. I had Damage, Inc. blasting on the way to work this morning to see how they sound, and nothing short of amazing. Extremely clear with good base and bright highs even at very high levels. I think it even had more to go, but I didn't see a point in going louder because I'm never going to listen to it that loud. Very satisfied.

Pros: Amazing sound over stock Durango speakers. . Huge increase in usable volume. Build quality is very nice.

Cons: Crutchfield Install kit not perfect. Pins to connect the speaker to the mounting bracket are not long enough to use included washers. 3 point bracket arms needed for Durango install are 1/8 of in inch too long. All three needed to be cut to fit in the stock mounting spacers. 1 hole on mounting bracket does not line up with the rear door spacer, so the bracket has to be drilled. Not a big deal. No modifications required to the vehicle or speakers themselves.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace the factory speakers in my 2000 Subaru Forester. They've performed just as expected (which is saying something, because I did not expect them to perform in their price range). I did a little chatting with a Crutchfield rep before making my purchase. After telling him what receiver I have and what my plans and budget are, he directed me to these (which were cheaper than the speakers I was asking him about previously). If you're not interested in investing in an amp and are just powering your speakers from your receiver like me then these are the ticket! They are an exceptional upgrade from factory and are light enough to be powered without the amp. The only drawback is the lack of bass. But you have to expect that. I'll be investing in a sub with dedicated amp to round everything out, but I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

Pros: Price, Quality

Cons: Lacking Bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Kickers were easy to install. Actually went through all the motions of totally disconnecting all the wiring and totally removing the first door panel I did. Hooking up all those connectors to the door to finish the job was a real pain because of their awkward location. On the second door, simply took the panel loose and was able to access the speaker without totally disconnecting the wiring from the door panel, thanks to a neighbor who held the panel out of the way when I worked on the speaker. First speaker took about an hour; the second one was finished in about 20 minutes. I listen mainly to bluegrass and acoustic music; these speakers produce a million dollar sound with that genre. There's an abundance of bass and mids, and the high end literally shimmers.

Pros: Easy installation; terrific sound for the genre I listen to.

Cons: Can't think of a single thing.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in the front doors of a 99 silverado to replace some older aftermarket pioneers. I am very impressed with the improvement in sound quality and volume. They definitely run louder than my previous speakers. I was impressed that titanium dome tweeters could sound this good. I would have guessed silk because they really aren't harsh at all. The mid-bass output is amazing, tight and packs a good punch. They don't handle the sub bass range well but I don't know a 6.5 that does. I try to keep the below 120hz and below cut way down and it really cleans up the rest of the sound. I don't think I could have gotten a better speaker at this price point and Crutchfield threw in the speaker adapters and mounting rings for free.

Pros: Clear sound, excellent tweeters, punchy mid bass

Bought these speakers to replace the stock speakers in my truck. I choose these because of all the great reviews. I am not disappointed at all. They are great speakers with great sound quality. I am also very impressed with Crutchfield's competitive prices and free installation gear. I will order from them again in the future.

Pros: Great sound, Look cool, Easy to Install

Perfect Upgrade

2014 Honda Civic LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Kickers were the perfect upgrade for my daughter's 2014 Civic. We replaced the front and rear speakers. The difference in sound quality was amazing. The plan was to replace the speakers, then, if needed, replacing the head unit or adding a Digital Sound Processor. However, the Kickers got the job done, great clarity, response, and plenty of power. We got the kits ahead of scheduled time. My only complaint, and reason for only 4 stars, is that I received the incorrect speaker adaptor brackets. If you are replacing your factory speakers in a 2014 Honda Civic LX you will need the Scosche # SAHC634 brackets for front and rear. So, what should have taken 30 minutes turned into an all day project. Yes, Crutchfield Support did send the correct brackets. Though I chose not to wait and accepted the challenge. I've used Crutchfield since 1990 and this is the first time something was incorrect.

Pros: Perfect upgrade. Very noticeable increase in overall sound quality. Low cost upgrade.

Cons: Received the wrong mounting brackets. For a 2014 Honda Civic you will need Scosche SAHC634 Brackets for Front & Rear.

Great speakers, exactly what I wanted. These speakers definitely stand up to being good factory upgrades. The sound quality is good and performs great without amp upgrades.

Pros: Provides really good sound without needing a high performance amp. Easy to install

Cons: The addition of tweeters on the speakers, if you didn't have them in the first place, makes equalizing them a bit time consuming to get the mix you want

Civic 08 Customer from NJ on 6/1/2014

2008 Honda Civic LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed 4 of these speakers in an 08 Civic sedan with the factory head unit to replace the existing stock speakers which sounded great 6 years ago but the sound became noticeably muddied with time. For an entry level speaker these are pretty good. The music is more clear and crisp. Bass is less deep than stock but cleaner. Tweeters are a little too bright. I had to dial Treble to -2 and fade it a notch to the rear speakers because of discomfort in the ears after listening for 5-10 minutes (not sure if this will improve after a break in period or not, I hope it does. The highs are still too sharp to my ears even after several hours of listening). There is no noticeable distortion even at max volume. Installation is fairly easy (if you haven't removed door panels before there is a good youtube video on the Civic). I had to cut a bit of the plastic enclosure on the back of rear dash grills for it to snap back in place, it seems it was touching the rim of the speakers. I had compared these speakers to the Pioneer TS- A1675R at a local store. The Pioneers seem to have a fuller range (maybe because they are 3 ways) but they did not sound as clean as the Kickers. Difficult to say which ones will sound better in a car with 4 speakers installed as opposed to a single speaker in an open store space. There were no issues with Crutchfield. Everything was delivered on time and in great shape with the mounting adapters and wiring harness included.

Pros: Clean crisp music. No distortion at high volumes. Car sounds much better.

Cons: The highs are too sharp to my ears. If it doesn't get better with time it will be annoying. Although the Bass is less deep than on the stock speakers it is good enough for me and it is cleaner and more defined.

I was hoping for much better. Definitely better than the factory speakers. Was hoping for more bass response than what there is. Maybe it still needs the factory stereo upgraded for sufficient power to the speakers to provide the proper bass response.

Easy install, huge improvement to my disintegrating factory speakers. You pay a little more than a few places, but the free shipping, included installation tools, and excellent 1 on 1 customer service WAY offset the price difference.

Pros: Good replacement for factory speakers, larger magnet and quality materials

Cons: Cone surround seems to be a foam composite as opposed to burly rubber, time will tell but no matter how long the price is right.

Significiant improvement on Honda Element OEM speakers

Ian from Bay Area, CA on 5/10/2014

2005 Honda Element
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these as a low cost, upgrade to the OEM speakers, and one that I thought would be easy to install. It met all those needs, in fact, installing it was super easy, no modifications needed at all (despite what the Crutchfield guide for my car said), so that was a pleasant surprise. Took about 5 minutes to install, and I put them in the front door location (they were not listed as fitting the front door). The sound was considerably better than the original speakers, treble clear, bass firmer. Sure one could spend more and probably get better sound, but my car is not really set up for great sound anyway, its pretty much standard as delivered, so my expectations may be lower than some who are making much greater improvements. I am very satisfied with the purchase.

Cons:

2004 Subaru Legacy
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wasn't looking for high end speakers; just an improvement on my factory speakers which were breaking down. If you're not going any further than replacing factory speakers, I recommend these. I have a factory HU with no amplifier or sub in a Subaru Legacy 2004. This forces me to use an FM transmitter for my media player, and hence I can't really judge of the sound quality. All I know for sure is it blows my factory speakers out of the water.

Pros: Loud, easy to install, low profile

Cons:

2003 Mitsubishi Lancer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these instead of the similarly priced 40SC654's. I'm still not sure what the difference is other than these suck less power. The speakers sound great, coming from stock speakers on a 2003 Lancer it's super weird to hear actual music. Thanks to the included adapters (both wiring harness and the mounting disk thing), the install was a breeze once I got the door trim off. Keep in mind that it took me around two hours to get these installed. The speakers popped right in, it was removing and reattaching the door trim that took forever. Mostly because of the interior handle and the window seal. These have much less bass than the factory speakers but are much more detailed. The bass on these goes down further but doesn't have as much volume.

Pros: - Sound Clarity - Build quality (the OEM speakers looked similar to pancakes with a dent) - Low power usage (great because I'm powering it off of a Pioneer X360BT that I got from here!) - They have a surprisingly nice heft. - They go much louder than stock and without distorting.

Cons: - The bass isn't as loud as stock. Much more detailed than stock though. I guess a subwoofer is next! - The door trim was horrible to work with. This isn't Crutchfield's or Kicker's fault. It's just that my 03' Lancer is built way better than I thought and now my fingers are all cut up. I also messed up my door handle, now the driver side doesn't stay unlocked.

Very good speaker for the price.

Features

Polypropylene Woofer Cones: The Kicker DS-series speakers feature durable polypropylene woofer cones for their rigidity and light weight. Polypropylene is also resistant to moisture and high temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Ribbed Polyester Foam Surrounds: The ribbed polyester foam surrounds allow extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL.

1/2" PEI Balanced-dome Tweeters: The 1/2" PEI balanced-dome tweeters provide a smooth high frequency response with quick, detailed and spatially-correct imaging. PEI is an acronym for polyetherimide. The tweeters have strong neodymium magnets for higher power handling.

Mounting: In addition to fitting standard 6-1/2 and 4-hole 6-1/2 applications, the DSC65 also has a standard 6-3/4 bolt pattern. However, if mounted in a 6-3/4 location the holes for the smaller pattern create an air leak, which must be sealed using a speaker baffle, or something similar.

Sorry I would need some more information to answer that. If you are simply replacing stock speakers, no you won't need a new amp. if you are adding them to a rear deck, you will need an amp. [ DANIEL L  Feb 12, 2016 ]
i installed them in a 2005 dodge Dakota and they sound great. [ Paul  Nov 08, 2015 ]
No, they sound great great in the doors of a 2015 Subaru WRX. [ STEVEN D  Jul 31, 2015 ]
If they sound OK without distortion I would not replace them. There is no electronic reason to replace if they work and sound OK. [ WM  Jul 14, 2015 ]
I would replace them all [ Marcy  Jul 13, 2015 ]
If you are installing in certain model dodge trucks as I did,the majority of vocals and music comes thru the rear speakers. The front door speakers are for base. That is the way the stock system is designed. Not knowing the radio being used would make the difference in the type of front door speakers.Hope this helps a little. John [ John  Jul 13, 2015 ]
replaceing all the speakers would sound a lot better, but is not needed if the speaker are still good. I replaced the front door (they where blowed and not working) on my jeep with these and they sound good I just the head unit. [ Anthony  Jul 12, 2015 ]
Is worth it to do the back now, a lot of the sound makes it into the front anyway and once you have the door unassembly figured out its just worth it to do the back at the same time. [ David  Jul 12, 2015 ]
If you are looking for overall improved sound quality you would be better off doing all 4 doors. [ Michael  Jul 12, 2015 ]

Bought these for highs and mids. It's ok a little better than stock but with highs and mids. Little speakers really shouldn't be used for bass. [ edward  Mar 27, 2015 ]
great improvement - like them a lot. [ Francis  Mar 25, 2015 ]
Impressive & solid, way better bass then other speakers at that size (powered via head unit only) [ AJ  Mar 25, 2015 ]
Much tighter, no l [ DONALD J  Mar 25, 2015 ]
The bass is decent but it's not gonna rattle you ride if that's what your looking. Pleased with the sound quality in my daily driver. [ Carl  Mar 25, 2015 ]
Wire it in parallel. You get more power out of this setup anyway. Put a jumper wire from one negative speaker connect to the other positive speaker connect and wire the pos and neg amp terminals to the remaining connects. It should be like: (positive amp terminal) to (positive speaker connect #1), short jumper wire from (negative speaker connect #1) to (positive speaker connect #2), then (negative speaker connect #2) to (negative amp terminal). Pretty sure that's how I set mine up, but check Google "4-ohm to 2-ohm subwoofer" or call crutchfield. They're actually really helpful with simple questions. [ Kristopher  Mar 15, 2015 ]
Oh course, all new speakers come in pairs. Subs is a different issue. [ edward  Feb 17, 2015 ]

No but to get the full effect from these speakers an amp would be advised. [ ROBERT J  May 30, 2014 ]
No, they run fine off of head unit power. That's what I'm using. An amp never hurts as a future upgrade though. [ Sean  May 30, 2014 ]
I installed in a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, which has a cheap infinity stock amp. The speakers sound much better than stock. I was told when I bought them, they are a good factory replacement as they can run off little power. To answer your question, you don't need an amp, but I think an amp would definitely help them sound better. Look for a definite improvement over stock speakers though. [ ANGELA  May 29, 2014 ]
No amp required. They will work well with even a low powered head unit. [ MICHAEL  May 29, 2014 ]
These speakers work just fine with stock stereos or after market. There power rating is just right for most stock radios 20 to 40 watt area. Amp would probable be nice .but watch your power rating. I installed them in an 01 Saturn L's with premium stock radio. Sounds great. Nice highs and tight base. For the money.great choice. [ JOHN  May 29, 2014 ]
I am running a 50 rms 4 channel amp to 4 of these. They sound good. Bass with no presence. [ ROBERT  May 29, 2014 ]
No, they run just fine off of either a stock head unit, or an aftermarket one. However, an amp will give you much better sound and will allow you to hear parts of songs you never could before. [ DANIEL L  May 29, 2014 ]
