Built tough

Kicker's 40CS54 speaker set provides low-end from a tough 5-1/4" polypropylene woofer, with a polyester foam surround that will stay strong for years to come. The 1/2" PEI balanced dome tweeter takes care of the vocal and instrumental details that'll really bring your music to life. These speakers sound great powered by a factory radio or an aftermarket car stereo, and they'll really rock when connected to an external amplifier. Grilles are included.

Features

Polypropylene Woofer Cones: The Kicker CS-series speakers feature durable polypropylene woofer cones for power and control. Polypropylene woofers are also resistant to moisture and high temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Ribbed Polyester Foam Surrounds: The ribbed polyester foam surrounds allow extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL.

1/2" PEI Balanced-dome Tweeters: The 1/2" PEI balanced-dome tweeters provide a smooth high frequency response with quick, detailed and spatially-correct imaging. PEI is an acronym for polyetherimide. The tweeters have strong neodymium magnets for higher power handling.

Q
What are the consequences of replacing stock 2-ohm speakers with 4-ohm speakers?
mike  Nov 03, 2016
1 answer
A
It probably depends on the specs of whatever amp is driving the speakers, but in general the amp would not push as much current to the new speakers possibly making them sound not as loud as the originals depending on how efficient the original speakers are. Again depending on the specs of the amp I seriously doubt that the amp would be damaged by going to 4 ohm speakers and may even run cooler with the 4 ohm speakers. Not knowing anything other than what is in your question there are other factors such as if there are 4 speakers and you only replacing 2 it may throw the balance off especially if the current speakers are wired in series.

A
I have these connected to a pioneer stereo. I have notice that the quality of the recording (Itunes) has an affect on the sound produced. Good recording good sound and vise versa.

How's the bass out of these? I like the hole review about the clean sound. But no ones mentions the bass yet.

the voice coils blew out of mine within a couple months and apparently thats an issue with these speakers or kicker in general so i would go with a different brand
greg  May 11, 2016
A
They are rated to play down to 45Hz which is better than average for this size speaker. No full-range speakers, of any size, will substitute for a dedicated subwoofer so, if you like robust bass response, you may want to consider adding a subwoofer to your system. Hope that helps! steven  Mar 14, 2016

A
My factory amp pushes 85 watts and these sound really good. However, due to my factory location (rear doors) the speaker enclosure is not sealed meaning bass delivery is weak.
christopher  Apr 27, 2017

I didn't use an amp with it but I did have a decent stereo which helps. They sound really good running just off of the power from the stereo

Q
Has anyone put this in a 97 Jeep Wrangler and if so did it sound better than the stock speakers?
tyler  Jun 24, 2014

A
I put mine in a 2012 Sierra and yes it sounded way better. But to be quite honest, anything is gonna sound better than a 17 year old stock speaker. I would recommend this speaker but will tell you it has a lot of highs and your bass will lack BUT will improve as the speaker breaks is. Mine are running off a 100x4 amp so i have plenty power gong to them. Do yourself a favor and run these speakers off an amp, you dont have to go near as powerful as i went. Any power amp will make a consderable improvement. The Clarion XC1410 may be pefrect if you are looking to improve sound without breaking the bank.
