These speakers are well built. The 6x9 woofers have a very good bass and no distortion in sounds from my experience. I did not use the tweeters. Very happy with these speakers. They replaced the factory speakers in my 2007 Dodge Ram. I am also using the factory amp that comes in the truck.

Good speakers, they produce excellent highs and mids but lack any low end. If you are planning a speaker system count on adding a sub.

Pros: Super clear, can handle a lot of power

Cons: No bass, highs can be a little harsh if pushed hard

I have these speakers hooked up to a Kenwood ddx593 stereo and so for they sound pretty good a lot better than the factory speakers they replaced cf says they won't fit in a Toyota Tacoma but they fit just fine in my 05 Tacoma with no problems with the adapters provided by cf.

Pros: They have a nice clean sound powerd through my Kenwood stereo.

Cons: None so for. Have just had them in for a couple days.

Sound so good in the front doors I bought a set for the back.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have these in the front with 5 1/4 CS coax in the rear powered by a 4-Channel (Pioneer GM-D8604). Also a new Stereo (Pioneer FH-X700). I've followed a Crutchfield guide in regards to setup, installation and tuning.. There's only one issue I'm having, one set is playing at a higher db than the other (no filters or anything in the equation) I can't tell if this is a 'get what you paid for' or defective product at this point. Hopefully I can figure something out. On the bright side, the one component that works correctly is amazing (these are an upgrade from stock Pioneers)

Pros: Easy Installation, feels like good quality, fast shipping! And great customer support

Cons: Might have a defective component.

Great speakers for the $

JD from St Louis, MO on 4/10/2016

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound out of these component speakers were just what I needed for the full range of sound I was looking for. I have two Kenwood 12" subs installed in my Jeep with a Kenwood receiver. I had the factory Infinity speakers in the doors and dash. Needless to say, the bass just overpowered the mid and highs. Decided to install the components in the front door and run the tweeters up to the original dash location. The hardest part was running the wires and finding a good place to mount the crossovers. After getting them in place and wired up to the head unit, I was surprised at how clean the sound was without running them on an amplifier (that will come later on). Now I have a full range of sound for a great price! Excellent purchase and product.

Pros: Clean sound, solid construction, better than expected sound output without an amplifier

Cons: Wiring is a bit short for running crossovers to non standard locations (i.e. not inside the doors), crossover box is not assembled very sturdy

Great product

Was really pleased with these speakers. Would definitely purchase again.

Pros: Great sound for a great price. Love the bass

Cons: Weren't an exact fit to my passenger door's bracket. After calling support about it, was told to just screw into anywhere on the bracket that I could get to and ended up splitting the screw holes so I'll have to figure out a way to better secure the speaker. Also had to fab up tweeter mounts for the factory hole. Don't come with brackets, just mounts.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These Speakers Are Awesome! I was shopping for speakers for my 2013 non JBL Toyota Tacoma. Crutchfield indicated that these Would Not fit and that I needed to shim the 6x9 drivers as their wasn't enough rear clearance, I wanted them anyway. I was completely expecting to have to do some modifications to make them fit. When I received them I decided to just put them in an see what happened. They fit Fine, No Clearance Issues. The sound is amazing. Crisp highs and the bass is killer. Just buy them, and get some Dynamat too. These suckers are powerful and Dynamat help stop any rattling that the bass these suckers put out will cause.

Pros: Sound, price, quality.

Cons: Nada

Awesome as usual!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently re-vamped the interior of my 96 Dodge Ram.. All I have for speakers is this 6x9" component system (running off a Kenwood head unit and Alpine in-line amp, 110W) and one 12" kicker subwoofer. You'd think I have much more in it. Once everything was dialed in it sounds crystal clear, and has a beautiful range from low to high. Kicker really did a number with these!

Pros: Handles a lot of power, sounds great

Cons: More complicated installation

Bought a set of these for the front of my Grand Cherokee WJ. They fit without modification in the front doors. I put the tweeters in the factory location in the dash, hardest part was finding a place to hide the crossovers. Also picked up kicker 6 3/4 component speakers for the rear doors. These speakers combined with my JVC head unit make the sound so much better than stock! I love these speakers!

Pros: Great fitment and great sound

Cons: none

Great set of speakers. Bass is amazing!!! you get a full sound with the tweeters that come with this set along with the set of crossovers. You will have to do a minor modification to make them fit but that was pretty easy to do. I would recommend this set to anyone looking for great base and all around sound.

Pros: Great sound and power

Cons: you have to modify to fit your standard 6 x 9 opening in the rear.

Foolin' these thieves

Underwear from Ohio on 11/27/2015

Used these to fool the thieves in my complex who keep smashing my windows an taking my beats from the trunk. Now I got some bass an can keep it unlocked, no more broken glass...

Pros: Great name brand

Cons: Wish they sold the 6x9 separate from the tweeter

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They sound nice, tweeters hit a little too high, and the bass lacks just a bit, but I'm sure baffles could fix that.

Pros: Good sound quality, different crossover setting are cool, and they look awesome.

Cons: When turning the volume up high the bass distorts the mid range sounds, which is what I was hoping not to have as to paying the price I did for these speakers, and in a vehicle without stock tweeters, it's not easy installing them.

Pros: Perfect fit in 2006 Xterra X, Sound is much better than the stock speakers. I also purchased the smaller Kicker 5.25 speakers for the rear doors. The install was very easy just make sure you get the speaker spacers for the rear doors and the speaker wire nuts that Crutchfield offers

poor quality

dp from Alabama on 7/1/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

the sound quality is very poor when used with an amp. I have purchased 2 sets of these speakers, thinking the first set must have been a bad set. Both sets have the same problem, when used with an amp the high tones (tweeters) fade out to a flat sound at higher volumes. Kicker tech says that the gain is not set to match the head unit, but no matter how the gain is set the high tones still fade out at high volume. I am using an amp that is 80 watts rms X 4, these speakers should be able to handle that power but they do not. Beware not for upgraded aftermarket systems!

Pros: sound great for factory upgrade

Cons: not for aftermarket amp powered systems

Father's Day Present

Steve from Arkansas on 6/30/2015

2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these Kicker components in my 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The instructions provided by Crutchfield to remove door panels were excellent but there was no direction regarding where to mount the crossovers or exactly how to wire this setup with the tweeters located on top of the dash. I called Crutchfield and their Tech Support confirmed the crossovers were to mounted in the door with the factory door speaker wire as the crossover input and the dash tweeter wire to be run from the crossover through the wiring harness and flexible conduit in the door hinge. The installer must disassemble the bracket which secures the wiring harness through the hinge in order to pull the tweeter wire but the kick panel does not have to be removed. Crutchfield had informed me that the tweeters would require a bracket to mount them in the dash openings, so I used plumbing strapping. The door speaker bracket provided by Crutchfield fit the door screw holes perfectly but the speaker flanges did not align with the holes molded in the bracket, so I had to drill new holes in the plastic bracket and fasten the speaker with machine screws, washers, lock washers, nuts and Loctite thread locker. I was careful to wire speaker polarity correctly through the wiring systems because the truck, Crutchfield connectors and Kicker wiring codes are all different. I printed a schematic of the truck's sound system wiring and confirmed that with Kicker, grey is positive and grey with a black stripe is negative.

Pros: The sound is incredible compared to stock speakers! The factory "F Jammer" deck drives the Kicker speakers with no problem. I switched the crossover to the full 6 db and enjoy hearing the high frequencies better. I was shocked how small the magnets were in the stock door speakers and delighted with the mid-range pushed by the Kicker 6"x9"s. I have the factory woofer. Crutchfield satisfied me again with their research information, brackets, connectivity and support!

Cons: Additional materials and installer skill are required to fabricate the tweeter brackets, mount the crossovers in the doors ( I used two-sided tape), modify the door speaker bracket and ensure correct wiring polarity.

2005 Dodge Ram 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought Kicker component speakers (40CSS694 for front door, 40CSS654 for back door) and Kicker powered sub woofer 11HS8 for my 2005 Dodge Ram quad cab. I had already installed a Pioneer head unit. As with most speakers mounted in the door, the sound was getting lost up front and sounded mainly from behind. So I definitely wanted a component speaker up front and Kicker was the ONLY company to make a 6X9 that will fit in my front door. I went with component speaker for the back door to match. Crutchfield sent harness to hook into factory harness to make install easy, I still had to cut and connect rather than just plug in because with component speaker wires go to cross over first. Crossovers had different connectors for tweeter and mid speakers so you can't really mix them up. I drilled holes high in the front door behind were my side mirrors are, and it REALLY helped get the sound more balanced front to back. In the back door I placed tweeter a little behind, above the 6" rear speaker and aimed it towards the back which helped the balance too. When mounting the rear speakers it said I would have to re-drill to mount them but Kicker has several holes drilled around the rim of the speaker and was able to line up with the three factory holes. The sub woofer I planned to put under the driver seat but I have a power seat on drivers side so it didn't fit. Plan B was under the passengers seat which worked well. Wiring was straight forward with the harness supplied, just needed to

Pros: Easy hook up, tech help is big plus.

Outstanding stock replacement

Shane from Layton, UT on 8/1/2014

2004 Dodge Ram 2500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently replaced the stock sound system in my wife's Dodge Ram. I used these Kicker 6x9 components up front and the matching 6.5's in the rear doors. Along with a Pioneer head, a pair of Fosgate 12's in a sealed enclosure under the rear seat and a dedicated sub amp, the truck got a complete audio overhaul. The difference all of this made to the sound system in the truck was nothing short of outstanding. These 6x9s add just the right amount of mid-range and mid-bass up front to help smooth out the freq range and the tweets add a clean brightness that's nice, but not too harsh. While I had to fab up some adapters to drop the tweets in the dash, the install was fairly straight forward. I've had them in the vehicle for a week or so now and after a little EQ and crossover tweaking, the sound just keeps getting better. We listen to all kinds of music, just about everything from classic country and rock to modern metal and dub-step, even a little hip hop and occasionally some jazz...these components deliver! I've been a "backyard" installer and an audio electronic hobby enthusiast for well over 20 years, when you're talking bang for the buck and simplicity of install, Kicker nailed it. The two systems I purchased were quite reasonably priced and the comparison over the stock units was laughable (in Kicker's favor). Bottom line, I'm very pleased with these Kicker products and would recommend them to anyone looking for a cost effective, ear pleasing upgrade.

Pros: Reasonable cost, sturdy construction, pleasing audio performance.

Cons: Wished the crossover had terminals rather than being hard-wired to the component leads, added a slight challenge to the install and doesn't allow for a speaker wire upgrade. More of a personal preference than a "Con" however, the system seems to function just fine.

Speakers were a great fit for my vehicle and sounded much better than the 10 year old stock Infinity speakers they replaced. Various mounting options for the tweeters made placing them in the factory location simple with a custom made mount that attached to stock locations. Supplied wiring made connections to speakers, crossovers, and amplifier quick and easy.

Pros: Good sound, simple installation.

Cons: None.

kicker 6x9 component speaker set

kallen from Napa, CA on 4/21/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers were used to replace 2007 Dodge Ram factory speakers. They are powered by a good quality amplifier at 60 watts. I separated the components with the tweeter in the factory dash location rather the door with the 6x9 speaker. With the adjust ability of the crossover system to have three different tweeter volume levels I was confident I could tone the tweeters down if needed. What I found is a sound stage that works very well for me. I found that the treble didn't go no existent with the window down as I have found of other installations I have done through the years. With some gain adjustments a natural full range sound was produced. Not surprising but between the factory 4 speaker system, and now components up front and 2 way 6.5 inch speakers in the back, it sounds night and day. I can't imagine another component set sounding better. With a little volume to here the different frequencies I'm impressed.

Pros: Nice cone material, full range 6x9 sound, and 3 way tweeter gain. Comes with speaker wire, screws, and speaker covers if needed

Cons: Instructions were not real good. I found myself coming up with my own installation steps on the tweeters. The instructions were missing how to route wires after mounting through pod enclosure and how to attach pod with screws or what screws to use.

Good Replacement

DanR from WI on 3/28/2014

2002 Buick Park Avenue
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The 6x9s were used to replace the 6x9 woofers in a Buick Park Avenue, 9-speaker system with factory amplifier. They fit perfect and produced good bass. The tweeters could not be used in the rear deck area, but will probably replace the front door speaker tweeters in the future.

Pros: Replacement speaker was sized almost the same as the original ones so the fit was good. Good bass

Cons: Could not use the tweeters - too bad the 6x9s could not be purchased by themselves. Time consuming installation (not due to the speaker, but to the way the originals were mounted)

These speakers sound great. If I didn't have a sub-woofer I would not be missing it too much as these things pack a punch. Even better the tweets have nice range, so you get a great blend of mid between the 6x9 and the tweets. Recommended!

2002 Dodge Ram 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm disappointed on two fronts with this purchase. First, these speakers are really not the correct replacements for my Ram truck. I needed 6x9 woofers and was told to just not install the tweeters. So, part of this purchase was a waste of $. You should just say that you don't have direct replacements in tech support. Second, the woofers were not as good (sound quality wise) as the original Chrysler speakers. How is that even possible? Mediocre service, mediocre speakers and a waste of landfill space on part of my purchase.

Pros: Nothing really, except that the bolt pattern almost fit perfectly...almost.

Cons: Not the right product for my vehicle and not as good a sound as the factory originals.

Bryan G from Milwaukee, WI on 8/10/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I gave these a 5 star not because they are the best, I gave that rating because I think they're great for the price. These put out a clear quality sound from the bass (I have them crossed over at 50hz) to a crisp clean high end. These are not the only speakers, I have components in the door and a pair of 12" subs so I can't say how they would do on their own, but for my use, 50hhz on up, they really impress me.

Pros: Great bass from the 6x9's and crisp high's from the tweeters. Crossover really helps the performance.

Cons: none.

Polypropylene Woofer Cones: The Kicker CS-series speakers feature durable polypropylene woofer cones, resistant to the moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Ribbed Polyester Foam Surrounds: The ribbed polyester foam surrounds allow extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters come with brackets to allow multiple mounting configurations: flush-mounted, angled flush-mounted (approximately 10°), and angled surface-mounted (approximately 15°).

Tweeter Dimensions:

Flush Mount Angled Flush Mount Angled Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.238" 0.563" 1.272"
Depth 0.532" 0.612" 0.554" (screw depth)

Cutout Diameter 1.57" 1.587" N/A
Frame Width N/A N/A 1.688"
Frame Length N/A N/A 1.897"

Crossovers: The component system includes passive 2-way crossover networks for a seamless transition between the woofers and tweeters. The slope is 12dB per octave (both high pass and low pass) and the crossover point is 4000 Hz. A switch on each crossover allows you to set the tweeter output; 0 dB, +3 dB, or +6 dB. The crossovers' input and output wires are attached; the woofer output has quick slide terminals that connect directly to the woofer and the tweeter output has bullet terminals that mate to the terminals on the tweeter wires. The crossovers' dimensions are:

  • Length: 4.595"
  • Width: 2.463"
  • Height: 1.004"

Thanks for your question. The manufacturer lists them at 2-150 watts RMS (450 watts peak power). You can find more information on the main product page under "Product Highlights". Hope this helps. [ Kenny  Dec 09, 2016 ]  Staff
If you've ever listened to a Sonos Play:3 speaker, that's about how much bas you get out of it. Enough for someone who wants their car to sound GREAT over stock, but if you're looking for bass you can really feel, you will need a sub. When I got these I was looking for just enough low end to listen to house music and hiphop and it did just that. [ Marvin  Dec 23, 2016 ]
I replaced the Toyota stock door and dash speakers in my FJ Cruiser with this set-up. This truck came with a sub included in an eleven speaker package. Crutchfield representatives said the woofer was okay and recommended that I only replace these four speakers so I could "hear" the music better. They were right! During installation, I was astounded about the difference in speaker magnet size, stock to Kicker. The result: bass was enhanced as were the highs and mid-range notes. The cross-overs must have helped separate the frequencies. Overall. I was quite pleased by the listening improvement and very satisfied with Crutchfield's professional support, as always. [ Stephen  Nov 08, 2016 ]
If your not running a amp the 6×9 will help, however I recommend 8" subs. BIG difference on the low end. [ Walter  Nov 07, 2016 ]
They will not give you very much bass. I would put in an 8 or a 10 depending on how much bass you are looking for. I put an 8 under my front seat and it was all I needed. [ Mark  Nov 06, 2016 ]
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Jeff  Dec 23, 2013 ]  Staff
