Our take on the Kicker 40CWD102 by Crutchfield's John Pollard
Legendary bass, awesome price
If you're looking to add some boom to your car's sound system, Kicker's CompD line will get your car shaking without draining your wallet. These subs are the latest in the legendary Kicker Comp line that started in 1986, with a proven pedigree when it comes to delivering powerful bass.
The heavy steel basket cuts down on unwanted vibrations.
Kicker technology at work
Kicker's 40CWD102 10" subwoofer features a flex-resistant polypropylene cone for hard-hitting lows without distortion, while the ribbed foam surround promotes long excursion and helps to keep the cone on target. The sub's steel basket provides a reliable foundation for big bass, and its extensive venting ensures long-lasting performance that won't break down when the bass gets heavy.
Easy to add to nearly any setup
This sub handles up to 300 watts RMS to bring out the depth your music's been missing, and its dual 2-ohm voice coils give you more wiring options when setting up your system. This versatile sub works well in sealed or ported enclosures, and it's even suitable for free-air applications.
To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 225 and 450 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.
Can't be beat for the price...

Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 2Ω voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1Ω load. When wired in series, the woofer presents a 4Ω load.
Ribbed Surround: The optimized ribbed polyurethane helps eliminate flex and distortion.
Spiralead Tinsel Leads: The durable Spiralead tinsel leads are woven into the woofer's spider, for added strength and reliability.
Steel Basket with Vented Pole Piece: The steel basket's vented pole piece and Kicker's Quad Venting slots contribute to the woofers' efficient cooling and durability.
Speaker Terminals: Each speaker terminal has two 0.25" push-on terminals (crimp-on quick slides included).
Enclosure Versatility: The Kicker Comp subwoofer is versatile, performing well in vented or sealed enclosures, and in free-air applications.
Sealed Enclosures: A sealed enclosure design offers the smoothest response, with increased energy at the lowest frequencies (between 20 to 30 Hz).
- Minimum enclosure volume: 1.0 ft³
- Maximum enclosure volume: 2.4 ft³
Ported Enclosures: A ported (vented) enclosure design is typically more efficient than a sealed enclosure.
- Minimum enclosure volume: 1.25 ft³ with a 1.5" x 10.5" slot port opening that is 14.5" deep
- Maximum enclosure volume: 1.75 ft³ with a 1.5" x 10.5" slot port opening that is 13.25" deep
Infinite Baffle Mounting: The Kicker Comp subwoofers are also designed to be used as free-air drivers. The infinite baffle mounting method effectively utilizes the trunk of a sedan as the enclosure.

for good bass [ kenneth Feb 07, 2017 ]
Kicker is a good brand with a good reputation for big bass. This Kicker 40CWD102 definitely does the trick and it won't hurt your pocket either. It hits all those long deep bass notes with no problem. Sounds great, hits hard, and does all I wanted in a sub. Smart Buy. [ Mark Nov 02, 2016 ]

Yes [ BRUCE Jan 08, 2016 ]
Ohms represent the amount of resistance that the speaker has. If an amp gives 1000 watts at 2ohms, it provides 500 watts at 4ohms, and 250 watts at 8 ohms. This is most important when you are daisy chaining speakers together. It is important to match the impedance of the speakers and insure that your amp can handle the added resistance of the extra speaker. If you have 2 8ohm speakers, you will now have 16ohms of resistance which could potentially burn up your amplifier. Low impedance subs are good for daisy chaining, but work well as stand alone as well. [ Todd Jan 15, 2015 ]
That is the measure of resistance of the speaker. [ MATT Jan 14, 2015 ]
1 answer My vehicle is a 2004 F150 Supercrew. I have a Class D 400W Single Channel ZX 400.1 Kicker Amplifier. I'm looking to just run a single Sub under my back seat, to which I will find a suitable box enclosure for when I find the sub I want to get. I have absolutely no understanding of what would be a good fit for this amp. I was wondering if you could give me an explanation on the ohms and if this sub would be a good match for this amp? Thank you! [ John Feb 12, 2014 ]
