Kicker technology at work

Kicker's 40CWD104 10" subwoofer features a flex-resistant polypropylene cone for hard-hitting lows without distortion, while the ribbed foam surround promotes long excursion and helps to keep the cone on target. The sub's steel basket provides a reliable foundation for big bass, and its extensive venting ensures long-lasting performance that won't break down when the bass gets heavy.

Easy to add to nearly any setup

This sub handles up to 300 watts RMS to bring out the depth your music's been missing, and its dual 4-ohm voice coils make it easy to connect to a mono amplifier. This versatile sub works well in sealed or ported enclosures, and it's even suitable for free-air applications.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 225 and 450 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

It was a good replacement for the sub that had gone bad.

Pros: Light

Great Sound and price

Lots of bang for the buck. I'm running 250 watts rms to it in a bass box and it gives all of my music (classic rock, metal, rap) a nice deep bass sound. Makes some of my older music with a "thinner" sound - come alive.

Pros: Big sound - small price.

Cons: N/A

Great Speaker, Great Value

Steven from Riverside, CA on 5/15/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this speaker because my previous bass speaker could not handle the frequencies I was giving to it (>200 Hz). Thus far I have been impressed with the sound quality that this speaker has output. The only thing I did not like was that you have to connect the wire to the speaker via automobile connector terminal (clamping wire type), but they at least we're good enough to include the terminals. This connector issue is minor and does not impair the sound quality or design of the speaker. Overall, if you power it correctly (lower than or equal to its RMS value) and filter it to frequencies within its specs (<500 Hz), then you should have a nice performing bass speaker.

Pros: Good quality sound for decent price.

Cons: N/A

Great for my car

Very good sub for the price. Hits pretty hard with just one but with dual its just beautiful. Listen to little bit of everything and subs just make everything thing sound so much better.

Pros: Bass more bass

Cons: Not buying these sooner

Great sound and Quality

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great sub made of good quality materials. You can add it to either give your sound stage the depth you've been searching for, or to really get some nice loud, thumping bass. I personally like to feel my bass and watch the mirrors on my car shake when I drive. These subs give me that and I'm probably only pushing them to about half their potential. I've bought two of these for a ported enclosure.

Pros: Great Quality Made from good materials Set the depth for your sound stage or / Let you feel your music Wakes up the neighbors!

Cons: Haven't found any yet

Great value

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, it's tough to beat the CompD series for bang-for-the-buck. I put 2 of these in individual sealed enclosures in my extended cab ranger, pushing them with the 300.1 kicker amp, and they're awesome. Sounds like they could take more power since I'm only running 150W rms, but they're very responsive. Great sound for the price.

Pros: price, tight sound response

Cons: they make you want more power and more subs

Not for all vehicles

This may work great for some but for me it was a big let down. I replaced my stock sub out of my 06 350z convertible. Just didn't sound good at all. may sound better in a box. I when with the JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3. A little more but well worth it. The amp that I'm using is the JL Audio XD700/5v2

Pros: looks good

Nice free air sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced OEM Mark Levinson 10" sub in a Lexus GS300. It sounds fine with the stock amplifier, and I am sure it is not pushed anywhere near its capability. Good, clean sound and works well in a free air application.

Pros: Inexpensive, reasonable quality, and good sound.

Cons: The included wiring diagram was difficult to interpret, but Crutchfield's online resources helped.

Cons: None really, very lightweight subs

Truely enhanced the sound quality from my stereo system

Julio from Danvile, KY on 11/15/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kicker subwoofer fitted nicely in the factory location of the Bose sub that came with my 350Z. Wired to the Kicker 12CX300.1 amp, this sub hits hard, it's powerful and very loud. Very easy to install and clean looking. I recommend it to any one wanting to upgrade their sound system from the factory. I've already installed a LCD display Head Unit that has subwoofer controls and allows me all kinds of control over the system than the crappy factory Bose system.

Pros: Loud, clean, and very powerful!!

Cons: None!

Great all-round sub woofer. Kicker Is the way to go!

Brandon from Utah on 4/26/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was a little hesitant on buying subwoofer. After speaking with a tech advisor, I decided to buy this and paired it with a kicker CX300.1 amplifier. I have a medium size car and put one of these in a vented box and WOW!! This subwoofer hits hard and is super loud! I have had a couple friends ask me what I have in the trunk and are blown away when I tell them its only one 10" subwoofer. The only thing I would change is the connection type to the coils. They are kind of hard to get to and require the use of connectors. Not that big of deal. Don't think twice about buying this!

Pros: loud. hard-hitting. clean. heavy. durable

Cons: none

Enclosure Compatibility

Subwoofer Features

Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 4Ω voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load. When wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Ribbed Surround: The optimized ribbed polyurethane helps eliminate flex and distortion.

Spiralead Tinsel Leads: The durable Spiralead tinsel leads are woven into the woofer's spider, for added strength and reliability.

Steel Basket with Vented Pole Piece: The steel basket's vented pole piece and Kicker's Quad Venting slots contribute to the woofers' efficient cooling and durability.

Speaker Terminals: Each speaker terminal has two 0.25" push-on terminals (crimp-on quick slides included).

Enclosure Compatibility

Enclosure Versatility: The Kicker Comp subwoofer is versatile, performing well in vented or sealed enclosures, and in free-air applications.

Sealed Enclosures: A sealed enclosure design offers the smoothest response, with increased energy at the lowest frequencies (between 20 to 30 Hz).

  • Minimum enclosure volume: 1.0 ft³
  • Maximum enclosure volume: 2.4 ft³

Ported Enclosures: A ported (vented) enclosure design is typically more efficient than a sealed enclosure.

  • Minimum enclosure volume: 1.25 ft³ with a 1.5" x 10.5" slot port opening that is 14.5" deep
  • Maximum enclosure volume: 1.75 ft³ with a 1.5" x 10.5" slot port opening that is 13.25" deep

Infinite Baffle Mounting: The Kicker Comp subwoofers are also designed to be used as free-air drivers. The infinite baffle mounting method effectively utilizes the trunk of a sedan as the enclosure.

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system. [ Krissy  Apr 13, 2016 ]  Staff
Sorry to disappoint you but you need a box for this subwoofer. The holes in a normal vehicle that hold the speakers arent nearly wide enough to fit this subwoofer. You dont need a hug box, but you do need one. [ KRISTYN  May 25, 2015 ]
I would not, this sub requires an enclosure [ Jason  May 24, 2015 ]
