If you're looking to add some boom to your car's sound system, Kicker's CompD line will get your car shaking without draining your wallet. These subs are the latest in the legendary Kicker Comp line that started in 1986, with a proven pedigree when it comes to delivering powerful bass.
The heavy steel basket cuts down on unwanted vibrations.
Kicker's 40CWD82 8" subwoofer features a flex-resistant polypropylene cone for hard-hitting lows without distortion, while the ribbed foam surround promotes long excursion and helps to keep the cone on target. The sub's steel basket provides a reliable foundation for big bass, and its extensive venting ensures long-lasting performance that won't break down when the bass gets heavy.
This sub handles up to 200 watts RMS to bring out the depth your music's been missing, and its dual 2-ohm voice coils give you more wiring options when setting up your system. This versatile sub works well in sealed or ported enclosures, and it's even suitable for free-air applications.
To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 150 and 300 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Average Customer Review(s):
I am using these as free-air subs on the rear window deck of my 2016 Mustang GT. They will replace the factory 6.5" speakers with a little trimming of the metal. I am driving these with a 500 watt Rockford-Fosgate sub amp. These subs sound very good for free-air as I did not want to use up what little space my Mustang has by building boxes. They hit fairly hard and have a tight, punchy bass which is perfect for the way I listen. Forget 20Hz tones that rattle everything, I want my bass to sound musical, and these Kickers are perfect.
Pros: Awesome subwoofer at this price point
Great replacement for the money.
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Minor modification on the install
Great sub for the buck. Installed in factory system no problem. Has great frequency range.
Pros: Fit perfect into factory system
Sub was what I was expecting, would have been nice to have wiring instructions with it!!!
I've always been a fan of Punch woofers and amps. I decided to try these, and while they sound great, they can't handle power like my my Punch woofers have. These speaker bottom out on the 300w mono Kicker amp. I've never had a Punch woofer bottom out ever.
Pros: Price, look
Cons: Power handling is a little weak.
For its size, this unit delivers great amounts of bass.
Pros: Not too expensive, and great power.
Cons: Hard to mount.
My Santa Fe factory dual 4ohm coil sub woofer went bad so I replaced it with the Kicker and now it sounds great.
For the price I paid I'd give this sub 5-stars for sure. I bought this as an upgrade to the factory subwoofer in my Ford Explorer. It's a Huge upgrade in terms of musicality and low-end. It was a direct replacement for my sub, although I did have to add some sealant around it to make sure it sealed into the box correctly (the sub was a little too deep). The factory amp is my shortcoming now, as I can tell this sub needs a little more power. I wasn't looking for crazy amounts of bass, but just a tad more than what I'm getting now. I plan to buy a small 100-200w amplifier an upgrade at some point. For the money, I would definitely recommend this sub.
Pros: Cost, Size, Deep Bass, Musical 8" sub, Factory replacement
Cons: slightly too deep for direct fit, could use a slightly bigger amp than factory
This sub is great, and I purchased it to fit in the OEM hole in the rear deck of my 2013 Dodge Dart. This sub hits so hard as only an 8" that I had to deaden the entire back deck/trunk so the rattling would stop. This is not a fault of Kicker at all since the rear deck on the Dart is a basic sheet of metal, is skinny and has many different holes/slots. Once that was taken care of it really brought the low end frequencies out that were missing. Definitely get the Rux knob too with this.
Pros: - Great quality and hits hard for an 8" free air/infinite baffle type setup.
Cons: - Only con is for a beginner trying to wire this in a series/parallel may be confusing as the positive and negative connections are not right next to each other. The connections are spread around it however this does not take away from it at all.
This is a great upgrade to the factory 8" sub. It was a straightforward install in my FJ Cruiser just had to remove the plastic ring around the mount to continue to use the factory grill. It was nice that the screw holes half way between the factory mount so I got a solid bite for the screws. Thanks Crutchfield for providing the right product.
Pros: The right fit, high quality, great sound, great value.
Cons: Haven't found any
For an 8" sub, this puts out an impressive amount of bass. First, it's important to know that the speaker has everything working against it in my '98 BMW 328i convertible. It's in a free-air mount as a direct replacement for the Harman Kardon OEM speaker. It's behind the rear seat, facing into the trunk. Still, it kicks out very solid, tight bass with almost no distortion, even at high volume with the top down. There was nothing actually wrong with the original speaker, but for this price, replacing it was a no-brainer. The Kicker makes the car actually sound like it has a sub. It's driven only by the factory HK amp. I added a 1/2" spacer ring, with a ring of Dynamat on either side. Other than that, the setup is just as it came from the factory. Note: if you're installing one of these in a BMW, make sure to get the dual voice-coil model. Wiring it in is easy as it can be.
Pros: Great value; solid, tight bass; perfect fit.
Cons: Can't think of any.
Pretty awsome has great sound
Great sub, replaced stock sub in my Jeep Wrangler
Great for my ranger truck my truck rocks now would tell all my friends to get it, it has a big bass sound .
Pros: Small did not take up much room still sounds good
Cons: No cons
I installed this in a 2011 dodge charger. It was a big improvement from the stock sub. It was easy to install but you do have to drill new holes for the sub.
Great free air mounting speaker. Sounds good without a box. And. A decent price. Recommend this speaker to who ever doesn't want to add a box that takes up a lot of room.
I haven't actually installed this yet as I've Been out of town since I ordered. The quality looks great as this is my first Kicker product.
Pros: Right size for my oem replacement
Cons: None that I'm aware of
for the price you can't beat it
My stock bose sub blew on my 06 infiniti g35. so i decided to replace it with the Kicker 40CWD82 Wouldn't had known which sub to choose from until a tech advisor Abe pulled up info on my car and let me know what sub would fit and be compatible with my stock amp. This sub Kicks pretty hard for an 8" Very happy with my purchase
Pros: Very loud Super Bass Clear sound Great Price Outstanding build quality
I drive a 2012 Dodge Charger SE, in this model they have a opening for a sub in the rear deck. I am fantastically pleased with how everything turned out! Many factors led up to me choosing this sub for my ride. I needed an 8" subwoofer to fit the opening provided by Dodge, however new holes needed to be drilled because of the propriatary layout. I needed the ability to wire my amp to the sub as 1 Ohm (Memphis PR.450) , luckily they offer two versions of this subwoofer in dual voice coils. Most importantly I needed a subwoofer that worked in a FREE AIR enviornment. I did not want to have to make shift a fiberglass box around the subwoofer. It needs to be able to withstand high voulue music and use its surroundings as the box. The great thing about 8" subwoofers is that they provide a tight, crisp sound in many different applications, this is exactly what I am experiencing. An added bonus, I impressed my friend who only cares about subwoofer loudness. You could definitely feel the bass and hear the difference over just the stock speakers. It even improved the over all sound quality since I turned the bass down on the stock speakers, this lightened their load, and let them produce clearer audio while the sub made bass.
Pros: Solid subwoofer, nice rubbery material on bottom of the rim, works well in a free air(infinite baffle) enviornment, decent price, dual 2ohm voice coils, Loud, Tight, accurate, precise, effcient, clean, easy to impliment.
Loads of bang for your buck.
Pros: The dual voice coils make this sub an impressive upgrade to a basic factory system. I paired this sub with a S/O M1500 in my 94" Jeep Cherokee, and was instantly impressed.
Cons: It won't give you ground shaking bass like a larger sub but you definitely know it's there
Perfect replacement for 2004 Sienna JBL factory sub. Required drilling a few holes in factory plastic box. Factory connectors fit the Kicker terminals by pulling the connectors out of the factory "T" connector assembly. Excellent bass response and compatible with factory amp.
Pros: Competitive price point

Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 2Ω voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1Ω load. When wired in series, the woofer presents a 4Ω load.
Ribbed Surround: The optimized ribbed polyurethane helps eliminate flex and distortion.
Spiralead Tinsel Leads: The durable Spiralead tinsel leads are woven into the woofer's spider, for added strength and reliability.
Steel Basket with Vented Pole Piece: The steel basket's vented pole piece and Kicker's Quad Venting slots contribute to the woofers' efficient cooling and durability.
Speaker Terminals: Each speaker terminal has two 0.25" push-on terminals (crimp-on quick slides included).
Enclosure Versatility: The Kicker Comp subwoofer is versatile, performing well in vented or sealed enclosures, and in free-air applications.
Sealed Enclosures: A sealed enclosure design offers the smoothest response, with increased energy at the lowest frequencies (between 20 to 30 Hz).
Ported Enclosures: A ported (vented) enclosure design is typically more efficient than a sealed enclosure.
Infinite Baffle Mounting: The Kicker Comp subwoofers are also designed to be used as free-air drivers. The infinite baffle mounting method effectively utilizes the trunk of a sedan as the enclosure.

i want to upgrade existing factory sub [ LINDA S Jan 25, 2017 ]
Needed a replacement for a blown/rotten subwoofer in my 2003 Toyota 4Runner. The factory amp may have difficulty driving it with its low sensitivity, however, it should fit just right and it matches all other important specs from the original subwoofer. [ Dylan Nov 15, 2016 ]
Good price and right replacement for my vehicle. [ Timothy R. Nov 09, 2016 ]
I've always like the sound quality from Kicker products. Great sound without busting seams in the wallet. [ Joshua Nov 03, 2016 ]
Fits directly into the OEM sub location, and was looking for a little more bass than OEM. [ Alex Jul 21, 2016 ]

My 2015 Chrysler 200C came with the 10 speaker Alpine Premium Sound. Now! I am a bass head, and that Alpine sub is not cutting it. I own a Kicker Comp 8 already, and am very pleased with it inside my Logitech Z906 computer system. I cannot use this sub due to it not being DVC and 2Ohms. I can't wait to see how this subwoofer sounds, have heard excellent reviews on it so far. [ Cody Mar 12, 2016 ]
for my listing ear the 2ohm sound I lot better to me than the 4ohm [ Gregory Mar 09, 2016 ]
I care about a good quality sound but not looking to annoy the neighbors. I went high and purchased Focal Integration speakers, and went for low price on this little sub to round out the sound. [ Michael Feb 26, 2016 ]

watched video to help me make my decision on this product and compatibility with amp I ordered [ paul Dec 06, 2015 ]
Short answer is probably not. Quick research on the Yukon XL Bose system says the factory sub is an 8" 2 ohm single voice coil driver. The CompD is a dual 2 ohm coil. What that means is this sub can be configured either as 2 channels at 2 ohms, 1 channel at 4 ohms (series connection) or 1 channel at 1 ohm (parallel connection). I also don't know the mounting depth available. You might be better off with the CompRT 8" 2 ohm shallow mount model 43CWRT82. If you have the available mounting depth then the CompR or CompS line might work out OK. [ Richard Apr 19, 2016 ]
It really depends on the capability of that amp. You need to know its specs and then tell the techs at crutchfield. You could be underpowered or have the wrong olms and then it's no good. [ Matthew Apr 18, 2016 ]
M not sure, you have to check the ohms and what RMS the bose amp puts out. Crutchfield should have a vehicle match with speaker compatability. [ Vincent Apr 18, 2016 ]

Hello Aaron, I would say yes you will need a box. This kicker is a sub woofer which needs to be mounted in a box to achieve the strong bass. Mike [ MICHAEL A May 07, 2014 ]
I believe you can use it for free air applications, but I built a sealed box for mine for about $50 and it works very well. It is only an 8" so it does not hit the very low notes how you might want it to. I use it in my 2003 Jeep Wrangler and I am very happy with it. Even for not hitting the low notes it does more than you expect. [ KODY Apr 30, 2014 ]
Depends on your setup. In my g35 was a free air sub so I didn't need a box. It just sat on top on the rear deck being screwed down. Thumps pretty nice without the box also. If you have a box that you want to put it in it would be fine. [ WILLIAM Apr 30, 2014 ]
You won't need a box if you don't want one. These subs sound great in a free air setup as well. [ MARCUS Apr 29, 2014 ]
Yes [ DONNIE L Apr 29, 2014 ]
It is a free air subwoofer. They can be used with out a box. Mine was used in the deck lid going into my trunk. [ JASON G Apr 29, 2014 ]
You will need an enclosure of some sort if you're trying to feel the frequencies as well as hear it. [ rik Apr 29, 2014 ]
No. My stereo guy installed without a box to replace the factory free-air woofer. [ LAWRENCE E Apr 29, 2014 ]
That's kind of a no brainer [ PATRICIA Apr 29, 2014 ]
