Overview

Our take on the Kicker Comp 07C124

Kicker's Comp subwoofers combine high performance with powerful lows to enhance your vehicle's sound system without draining your wallet. The 07C124 12" subwoofer uses a rigid polymineral cone and double-stitched, ribbed foam surround to deliver strong bass from sealed or vented enclosures, and you can even use it in free air applications.

Kicker fortifies their Comp subwoofer with a rock-solid steel basket, and keeps it cool with perimeter venting. The famous Inverted Structural Dome design reduces cone flex that can lead to distorted output, so the Comp can handle plenty of power without blowing a gasket. Kicker rounds out this handsome sub with nickel-plated push terminals for quick hookup.

Priced per speaker

I put two of these in my ford explorer and i could not have asked for more. These kickers are a quality set of speakers and they are a really good price. They bump a lot harder than i thought they were going to and i am so glad i went with these kickers.

kicker 12 & MTX rt 202

cody from lyman, WY on 10/27/2009

i got this sub about a year ago......i have it in an MTX large ported box with an MTX rt 202 amp, and it produces 703 watts max, 224 rms. the original MTX 4500 12 blew, then a jvc 12 blew, both after about three months, and everything was tuned correctly and very stable. i got this sub, based on the reviews that it can handle more than rated and the good news everyone had about it. as with my others, i broke it in correctly, and wow. In my 86 dodge ramcharger, its just amazing. neither of the other subs sounded near as loud or deep and didnt last as long as this one has. it plays very quick clean sound, and very boomy bass. not as good for highs, but still very well. i actually watched a crack in my windshield grow longer with each time my bass would hit. the only system that i have heard that was almost as loud as mine was a infinity perfect in a large custom ported box, running an infinity amp with about 1200 watts max. i have heard many other duel sub systems and systems with twice the power of mine that dont come close. there was a guy that had two JL 12s in a sealed box running what he said was 1800 watts with a capaciter, and it wasnt even close. maybe he had a bad setup, but it wasnt near as loud as my setup. these subs handle twice what they are rated, and i am very impressed. kicker all the way

I just bought two of these in a sealed box and I must say, AMAZING. I have a kac7201 bridged to them and they slam so hard my windshield wipers jump alittle bit. I was truely amazed on how hard they hit. The down fall is that they don't have extremely great extended bass, but if you want hard hitting bass they are GREAT. Love these subs.

Excellent Subs!

Michael from NJ on 8/5/2008

These are great subs. They are very loud for their power rating. I bought two of them from Crutchfield during a special. I already have subs in my car, so these are a cheap solution to fill my room with loud bass. They definitely handle more then they say. I have them hooked up to an old Kenwood receiver with a low crossover and they slam. There totally worth the money.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are amazing. They are priced way below what they should be selling them for. They hit so hard i have things rattling in my car i didn't even think could rattle. One thing though in the features and specs these say they can run free air. DON'T DO IT!! I tried it while i was waiting for my box to be built and yea they sounded alright but once i dropped them in that box and turned them up it was like a whole different set of subs. Much less distortion and 10 times the bass with the box. Overall, a sweet deal.

I have a set of these kicker comps; and let me say that they pound!!!. With a great box and a 'great' amp it will most definately be one of the best sounding subs with great to excellent bass. BELIEVE ME!!! p.s. These babies can take more pounding that it states. p.s.s. I have a pair wired to a 750 watt amp.

Derek from Sand Springs, Oklahoma on 6/30/2008

You look at all the other reviews and they use words like "wow great and loud", they are not kidding thes 2 10" Kickers are way louder then I imagined my 3 & 6 year old tell me to turn it up and scream aloud, my wife yells at me to lower it. The only down fall and its not that big it does not come with grill covers. Buy these they are worth money... BUY THEM....

My head unit is a Pioneer 3900 and it is also incredible with many different adjustments availible for the lows and highs. I have two infinity 5 1/4's in the front and two alpine 6by9's in the back and this system booms. The subs are the best part.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got two of these bad boys in a custom built box in my Yukon. Their being pushed by a brand new Kicker Amp, the ZX200.2. These subs hit unbelieveably hard and my amp is only halfway up!!! I have loved Kicker for years and would say, in my opinion that Kicker subs are the absolute best you can get for the price at Crutchfield. I got my right after Christmas. I couldn't pass that up. Besides my two Audiobahn 10" subs had been blown,..so I figured why not?? You simply cannot go wrong getting a Kicker product period!!! Trust me, these babies won't fail you, and you'll be amazed at the bass response and clarity of your music. Plus if your an "Audiophile" like me,..that's your goal anyways.

Features

Cone Materials: The Kicker Competition woofer consists of a vacuum formed polymineral cone with an inverted structural dome (ISD), which remains rigid to minimize cone flex and lowers harmonic distortion. A rear cone brace integrates into the cone with a continuous contact perimeter weld, which offers unmatched strength and resistance to deformation under pressure.

Surround: The optimized Polyfoam-ribbed surround allows extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL. The surround is double-stitched to the cone to add a mechanical fastener to the chemical adhesives. This prevents the cone and surround from separating in the harshest conditions.

Enhanced BAM (Basket And Motor) Assembly: The high-strength steel basket features a low-profile open design, and provides a solid foundation for the precision-aligned motor assembly. Perimeter venting in the BAM relieves pressure from under the spider, supports a linear excursion, and helps dissipate heat from the voice coil and motor structure.

Voice Coils: The ultra-strength voice coil sustains enormous cone excursion and provides extra heat dissipation. The high-temperature Polyimide Film voice coil former improves sonic and conductive properties, and prevents thermal-electrical meltdown.

Construction: The woofer features a two-piece vented hyper-extended blackened pole piece and backplate. This unique design provides the following benefits:

  • Optimizes heat transfer efficiency for cooler operation and maximum power handling ability.
  • Eliminates erratic magnetic flux from the voice coil gap.
  • Releases pressure under the suspension for uniform cone movement and responsive low bass.
  • Prevents the voice coil from bottoming out and corresponding damage.

Tinsel Leads: The woofer features high-power tinsel lead wires to resist breakage and power-robbing resistance losses due to the common use of "insufficient gauge" lead wires.

Speaker Terminals: The spring loaded, nickel-plated terminals provide solid connections for bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Enclosure Compatibility

Free Air Applications: Kicker Competition subwoofers can be very effective in an infinite-baffle (free-air) installation. You may need to reinforce the rear deck of your vehicle to support the weight of the subwoofer (3/4" MDF is recommended).

Recommended Sealed Box Volume:

  • Compact (minimum enclosure volume): 1.25 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 250 watts RMS
  • SQ (maximum enclosure volume): 3.5 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 150 watts RMS

Recommended Vented Box Volume:

  • Compact: 1.75 cu/ft; 1.5" x 10.5" port opening; 14.5" port depth; the woofer can handle up to 150 watts RMS
  • SPL/Deep Bass: 2.25 cu/ft; 1.5" x 10.5" port opening; 13.25" port depth; the woofer can handle up to 150 watts RMS

Note: The power handling specifications listed with the vented enclosure recommendations apply only when a 25Hz, 24dB/octave subsonic filter (sold separately) is used with this woofer. If a subsonic filter is not used, power handling may decrease, excessive port noise can occur, and the life of the woofer may be shortened.
