Kicker's space-saving CompVT subwoofers combine outstanding power handling with the ability to fit in your vehicle's tight spots. These extra-shallow speakers combine extended cone excursion and a slender frame, without sacrificing sound quality or bass impact.

Kicker's 08CVT84 8" sub handles up to a hefty 200 watts RMS, while requiring less than 3-1/2 inches of mounting depth. The rigid, injection-molded polypropylene cone throws down some serious thump, while the ribbed Santoprene™ rubber surround helps control cone movement for accurate response.

A unique design lets you mount the CompVT sub directly against the back wall of an enclosure, while perimeter venting on the stamped-steel basket keeps the sub cool under pressure. Pick up a pre-made enclosure or get creative with your own custom box — you'll find Kicker CompVT subs deliver the trademark Kicker bass experience in a slimmer, yet powerful package.

Perfect Replacement

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love this subwoofer! I had to replace the sub in my '98 Mercury Mountaineer (same as Ford Explorer) with Mach sound system when the stock sub finally reached the end of its life. I installed this sub leaving the existing factory subwoofer amplifier in place. Initially, I too thought that this amp does not appear to be able to drive this sub... but didn't realize that this Kicker sub appears to require a bit of a 'break-in' period (I can't recall how long it was, but I seem to think it was a couple of weeks) and then WOW, it really comes to life!! Of course, an 8" sub in a small enclosure isn't going to perform as a bigger one in a large enclosure, but this sub really surprised me.

Perfect OEM replacement

This is a great subwoofer! I have a 99 Explorer Sport with the Mach audio system. The stock sub went about a month ago, Ford wanted 350 or a replacement unit. For under 300, I was able to install this sub. This sub will fit the factory 8" opening, with new holes drilled for mounting, I even used the original screws. THE FACTORY AMP WILL NOT DRIVE THIS SUB! I also installed an Orion Cobalt 300.2 amp with an EFX wire kit. I ran the amp of of the RCA pre-amp on my Alpine head unit, a nice thing about the amp is that it gives you options. It has speaker level wiring, so you don't need to replace the factory head unit, but you still have to power the amp. Overall, the bass is greatly improved from factory! This 8" will give you good bass to your music, but is only an 8" and will not shake your windows a lot. The Kicker is perfect for improving your sound system while keeping the system looking stock! I have this set up with some Alpine 5.25 round s-series. The overall quality of this system is at least twice as good as the Mach system.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I drive a 2001 gator when the sub went out i had a hard time finding a good sub that would fit in the same location without any altering of the vehicle. This sub fits right in the spot the old sub was located without any modifications it also sounds 10 times better I honestly didnt know what i was missing i'm glad the factory sub blew.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purcahsed this sub to replace the Toyota JBL factory sub. I was able to use the stock location and it fit. The mounting depth is good! You have to remove the rubber cover on the magnet to get it to fit in tight locations. The sub is good and hits well for a 8" sub. My complaints are with the woofer extension and the woofer tends to "bottom out" when the bass hits hard. The extension of this woofer is really far. When the bass hits, the rubber surrounds were hitting the panel in my Toyota Tundra. I have fixed this with a spacer. On hard hitting notes, the woofer tends to lose sound and distort. I had to turn down my amp.

Aprehensive at first...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased an Alpine MRP-M450 to push this and it sounds great. Sounds clean and rounds out the sound of my Expedition well. I was apprehensive at first not knowing if it would provide the quality I was looking for. If you look for a sub that gives you that chest pounding bass then I would def bump up to something larger. But, if your looking for something that doesn't take up a lot of room and can be concealed this sub is GREAT! I have it behind one of my rear panels replacing the factory 8" the truck came with and it performs 10x's better than what came w/ the truck. I also used an Eclipse AV-6620 w/ some Kicker 6x8's. I never used Kicker before and I will have no problem using them in the future.

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Cone: The cone is a modified spoke cone design so the CVT series woofers are much more shallow than their standard CVR counterparts. The CVR8 is approximately 7/8" deeper than the CVT8. The ultra high performance injection molded polypropylene cone remains rigid and minimizes cone flex, lowering harmonic distortion. Distortion in the cone is further reduced with 360° back bracing.

Surround: The optimized ribbed Santoprene surround allows extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL. The surround is stitched to the cone to add a mechanical fastener to the chemical adhesives. This prevents the cone and surround from separating in the harshest conditions.

Basket and Motor Assembly: The high-strength steel basket features a low-profile open design, and provides a solid foundation for the precision-aligned motor assembly. Perimeter venting relieves pressure under the spider, supports a linear excursion, and helps dissipate heat from the voice coil and motor structure.

Tinsel Leads: CVT subwoofers use Spiralead tinsel-lead technology, which allows the ideal amount of flex for better strength and durability. The tinsel lead wires are woven into the spider to relieve mechanical stress.

Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker Comp VT speakers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The high-performance suspension system makes the speaker very stiff out-of-the-box. Approximately 2 weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A broken-in subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

Rubber Magnet Boot: A black rubber boot covers the outside edge of the magnet structure to improve the cosmetics of the woofer and protect the magnet during installation. The boot is removable if needed for tight installations.

Marine Ready: This woofer is made with a powder coated, weather resistant basket and stainless steel hardware, so it can be used in marine and mobile applications.

Enclosure Compatibility

Depth: Kicker's new CVT series is designed to minimize depth, giving you subwoofer options where standard enclosures don't fit. The vent-less, solid-pole design allows the woofer to be mounted directly against the rear wall of a sealed or vented enclosure. The spring-loaded binding posts are mounted parallel to the cone surface to minimize depth. Also the steel Clearance Adapter Plate enables you to cut out part of the back of the enclosure to create more room for the woofer magnet, subtracting the enclosure wall depth from the equation.

Power Handling: The power handling specifications differ according to the type and size of the enclosure.

Recommended Sealed Box Volume:

  • Compact (minimum enclosure volume): 0.4 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 200 watts RMS
  • SQ (maximum enclosure volume): 1.8 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 200 watts RMS

Recommended Vented Box Volume:

  • Compact: 0.8 cu/ft; 1.5" x 8" port opening; 20.75" port depth; the woofer can handle up to 75 watts RMS
  • SPL/Deep Bass: 1.2 cu/ft; 2" x 8" port opening; 19.125" port depth; the woofer can handle up to 75 watts RMS

Note: The power handling specifications listed with the vented enclosure recommendations apply only when a 25Hz, 24dB/octave subsonic filter (sold separately) is used with this woofer. If a subsonic filter is not used, power handling may decrease, excessive port noise can occur, and the life of the woofer may be shortened.
