Improvement over Stock
1997 Honda Accord LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
These speakers replaced the stock speakers on a 2000 Chevy Malibu that still had the original head unit. The original speakers were still in good condition, but had major issues with dynamic range. If I'd a guess, the original speakers for the Malibu were built to reproduce AM style talk radio. These speakers were easy to add to the Malibu as a direct replacement, and there was simply no comparison between the original stock speakers and these. Yes, these are inexpensive speakers, and yes they lack in bass due to their size, but they sound so much better than the original stock speakers that they now expose the limitations of the original GM head unit. My opinion is that replacing the head unit with an aftermarket stereo would help these sound even better, but the Malibu is old enough that I'm inclined to keep the original head unit rather than put too much money into the car.
Pros: Inexpensive, clear sound
