Overview

Our take on the Kicker 43DSC6504

The Kicker fit

Kicker's DS Series 43DSC6504 6-1/2" speakers make a great replacement for the worn-out factory speakers in your vehicle. In addition to providing excellent sound, these Kickers incorporate a zero-protrusion tweeter into a low-profile speaker that'll fit in more vehicles than ever.

Reliable, powerful sound

These 6-1/2" speakers will give you the kind of clarity you've never had with your factory speakers. The 2-way design recreates a dynamic sound, dedicating the highs to the PEI domed tweeter while sending the lower frequencies to the 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer. They'll conjure hefty volume even from low-powered factory radios, so you can confidently pump your jams for years to come.

Highlights:

  • 2-way car speakers (pair)
  • 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer with ribbed polyester foam surround
  • 1/2" PEI domed tweeter
  • power range: handles up to 60 watts RMS (240 watts peak power)
  • frequency range: 40-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 90 dB
  • top-mount depth: 1-13/16"
  • impedance: 4 ohms
  • grilles included
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

These kickers kick a pretty mean beat. Build quality is solid, and fit nicely into my lancer. Would def order these again for the next vehicle.

Anonymous, Van, TX

What's in the Box:

  • Two 2-way speakers
  • 2 Grilles
  • Two 11" lengths of speaker wire (tinned wire on one end and female quick slides on the other)
  • 4 Red plastic butt connectors
  • Eight 1-1/8" Self-tapping screws
  • 8 Speed clips
  • Owner's manual (English/ Spanish/ German/ French)

These speakers sound great! It actually surprised me how much they improved my sound system. Strongly recommend!

Pros: Improved sound quality over stock speakers, very reasonable price, and mine came with a very helpful wiring piece so I didn't have to splice into anything

Cons: If you have these in your car, some of your friends might start to get jealous :p

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had the front two installed locally in 40 mins. My Polk Audios failed so these were my choice. I did a quick search these looked good, reviews were good so I went for it. I really didn't care if they were great speakers or not. Boy was I surprised. These are great. These Kickers put the Polk Audios to shame. I wanted another pair for the rear doors to match the front. I didn't want to wait for shipping (even though it is free) So I went to a local big box store after I did a search and they had a pair. Sorry Crutchfield, these were too good to wait a couple of days. I LOVE THESE SPEAKERS. From Megadeth to Johnny Cash to Beethoven, these sound awesome. Period. The low Freqs are even good after I removed the foam speaker enclosures I used on the other speakers.

Pros: Sound great, easy install, look good.

Cons: NONE

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these in the doors of my 2013 Ram 1500 standard cab. They are louder than the stock speakers at the same volume level on my Pioneer receiver but not better quality. The voice comes through sounding like I'm in a tin box. The bass is slightly better but not much. I should have spent the additional money and time and installed a better component set of speakers. There not bad speakers just not as good as I expected.

Pros: Cost. Slightly better bass.

Cons: Not measurably better than the stock speakers. Tinny sound at the high to mid end.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased 4 speakers to install into the doors of a 2017 Toyota Rav4 with the JBL audio. My wife was less than pleased with the stock system. The addition of these four speakers have greatly improved the sound and made it acceptable to her. They were easy to install with the Crutchfield supplied adapter, wiring harness and specific Toyota Rav4 speaker installation which came with my purchase. Will definitely use Crutchfield and Kicker products again

Pros: Good sound and value!

Cons: none

Searched for and purchased to replace stock speakers. The difference between these Kicker's and the stock Toyota speakers was unbelievable! I knew the stock speakers would not be of high quality, but I was highly surprised at just how bad they actually were. These Kicker's have to weigh at least 4 times more. The stock speakers are barely more than just sheet of copy paper and a refrigerator magnet. These Kickers are heavy, well constructed and have a sense of quality. Thank you for making things easy Crutchfield!

I bought these for my 2002 suburban - Huge difference over the blown stock speakers I had in there. These speakers made such a big difference in sound. I originally just bought two for my sound bar. They made such a difference that I had to purchase 2 more for my front speakers too. For very little money, my jeep now sounds totally different. I love how Crutchfield includes specific instructions and equipment needed to install them. It really takes the guess work out of everything.

Pros: Love the sound. Everything needed for installation was included.

Cons: None at this time.

Installed in a 1997 Jeep Cherokee with factory radio, front doors. Fit perfect using the existing speaker screw holes. Metra 72-6512 wiring harness was included with purchase, plug & play, worked first time. Very easy install, follow the provided instructions. Sounds great, better that the factory speakers. (Caution on the Cherokee: the speaker wires tend to break in the door boot from age and opening the door, this will need to be repaired if your front speakers are not working. Check the internet for instructions. This is not a issue with the Kicker speaker or the Metra harness, just a quirk with the Cherokee.) Shipping was fast!

Pros: Easy installation Sounds great Fast Shipping!

Much improved over stock, obviously in a 2001 Chevy Metro. Fit great in the front doors and bass is surprising with a Kenwood stereo from autozone and no amp. Looking to get another pair for the back before upgrading the deck.

Pros: Installation was smooth

Cons: Included wiring harness adapter was a little tight when attaching to speakers. Almost snapped the connector off the first speaker before opening the plug a little with the end of my nail clippers.

Easy install into my 2000 GMC Sierra. I finally replaced the factory speakers with these and what a difference. Crisp highs and the perfect amount of bass. Thank you Crutchfield for providing everything I needed (minus tools) to do this myself. The local stereo shop quoted me $160 to install four speakers. So I'll now use that saved money to purchase an amp to power these Kicker speakers properly!

Pros: Easy install. I'm blown away how great they sound. Great price.

Kicker Roll Bar Re-Upgrade

John from Albany GA on 7/10/2017

2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am often riding with the top down and playing music at high levels. After changing my head unit out, I noticed my 6 year old Kicker speakers were distorting my highs. It was really annoying as these are in the roll bar right behind my head. New speakers have none of these issues. The WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) is also high. She commented on being able to hear the words now instead of just bass. Other people responded the bass response was lacking, but I haven't noticed any of that. The roll bar must contain the correct air space to make the speakers work correctly.

Pros: Nice speakers with no distortion.

Cons: Supplied speaker brackets wouldn't work. Luckily, the metal brackets from the first upgrade worked.

I got these for 1/2 price on sale, and from scratch and dent. Can not beat these speakers for this price. Our 17 year old son will enjoy them. Easy to install. Wiring supplies not the easiest to get to clip on, but finally got it. First one I re-drilled 2 holes as I could not match up the old ones, and the second one matched right up. That was irritating. No ones fault but my own. They sound really good compared the originals from 1993. Now the stereo and the speakers are both from Crutchfield.

Installed these along with the 5 1/4 inch in the rear door. With all four, they sound alot better than the stock speakers. Installed in a 2007 Chevy Silverado Extended cab NBS. Installation was easy after I figured where all the door panel clips were located. You tube was a big help on how to install without using new brackets to mount the speakers. Was easy and simple to do. It took me longer to get the door panels off than to mount the speakers in the doors. It took me around 3 hours to install all of the speakers and get everything back to normal. Had to take a few breaks cause it was 90 degrees out and I am old....... The installation kit that came with the speakers was a big help.

Pros: Easy to install Good sound On sale, Always a good thing........

2003 Honda Element

Very impressed. Originally had Memphis installed front speakers then my rear ones underperformed. Bear in mind the rear speakers were 14 yrs old. Should have done front and rear at the same time. Chris and team were kind to give credit for the front two and I replaced front and rear with this kicker model. At first I found the treble overplayed. I went into my alpine head unit and entered 7 system info for my Honda Element 2003 ex. Tweeter, sub, front, rear and vehicle type, seat setup, seat material and bammm. Music is what I was looking for. Perfect balance and sound. Ty crutchfield and ty team at Harrisonburg. Top notch to both.

Pros: Phenomenal price point. In store installation. Quality and eye for detail installer. Waiting area. Knowledgeable personnel.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these to replace all 4 door speakers in my 2010 HHR, with the factory stereo. They fit fine & have a clear sound. But I have to rate them 3 stars because they're fairly basic. The original speakers (made in Mexico) had more bass & warmer tones. These speakers have too much midrange & treble for me. I wasn't looking for mega-bass speakers, but I did expect them to be better than the factory speakers were, and they aren't. I feel like I wasted my money. ??

Pros: Sound is clear.

Cons: Too much mid range & treble. Sounds can be ear-piercing because of it.

I've read several of the reviews and see that most say con is the bass I strongly disagree. I put a pair in the rear deck of a 1997 Saturn. Factory radio has eq lol. I have plenty of bass especially for a 6.5" speaker. Of course their not going to rattle the doors off but they have great sound. I will be buying another pair for the doors as well that's how good I feel they sound. May I suggest putting a small amp on them if your trying to shake the neighborhood with a 6.5" speaker. ?? good day I'm done.

Pros: Great speaker all around

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

David was great! But, the speakers aren't a great replacement for factory stock in regard to aesthetics. Multipurpose mounting brackets were awful at best. NOTHING lined up. Then when you go to put on the grille, YIKES, doesn't fit with any common sense order. Had to screw it on, rather than screw in-place. Plus the speaker and the grille don't cover the same space as the factory speaker. Way too small. I questioned about it being 6.5 vs 6.75. The adapter was supposed to take care of that...but it doesn't... David and I went over everything, but this is not the replacement speaker for a 2009 Jeep JK if you want it to look finished, that's for sure. I may end up just putting the old cover over the speaker...exactly what I didn't want to do. So much for the upgrade in looks! :-(

I bought these to go in a 2001 Honda CR-V. The speakers mount in the lower door area, and the vehicle was not equipped with tweeters. I had concerns that I would need tweeters somewhat ear level to have a clear sound in the car. Not the case. These have a great low end to them, and are beyond adequate on the treble range, also. Way better than expected!

Joe from Grain Valley, MO on 3/5/2017

2013 Jeep Wrangler

In a 2013 Jeep Wrangler, front dash and rear soundbar. Great speakers, crisp highs vocals and sound overall. However the midbass is REALLY MISSING IN THESE. They could handle every bit of the mid frequency and highs tremdiysly and clearly. Just don't expect much else from them. You will have to play with your eqto get the tinny hollow sound out of them. I have these powered by a pioneer NEX 4100 so I can really separate and dial them in. a separate amp is pushing these 4 and my Polk audio sub handles the bass frequencies. The install kit is kind of a joke in this application.... nothing lined up wth the plates to my jeep, so I basically made my own holes and drilled as needed. Also, neither kicker speaker nor scoshe install kit included a foam or rubber sound ring to seal these, so you'll have to make your own. Pretty lame and necessary component not to include guys....

Pros: Crisp highs and vocals

Cons: Zero midbass or lower... the install kits were horrible and I could have easily made something better instead... no foam seal ring either

Handles the power of my stereo with ease (50w x 4). Would give it a five star if they provided clearer highs as did the previous 3-way 6-1/2". I've been using Kicker speakers for decades, almost every personal build I've done included at least one Kicker item. They are tough and last. They really sound great with a little power behind them about 35-40 watts (RMS) really brings them alive. Buy them, install them correctly and don't distort them...they'll last for a long time.

Pros: Great sound, long lasting.

Cons: Not the most efficient speakers, but that's the trade off for power handling.

I still see these as great speakers, but they lack bass! The highs are great, there is some bass, but not much. I do not regret buying these, because either way they are way better then my stock ones, just wish they had a little more bass! if there was a 4.5 star option, that's what I'd give them! ??

2003 Chevrolet Avalanche
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound pretty good for the price you pay for them. I personally purchased them because of the material they're made from. They're not cheap paper cones so they're less susceptible to ripping or burning out. The only thing that was a little unfortunate about these speakers is that I couldn't fit the guards over the speakers and put the door panel back on. They seem to protrude just a little too far out. The next issue I faced was putting in the front door speakers. Because the Avalanche is made the way it is, the screws provided for setting the speakers in the doors were not long enough. I needed to use other screws to properly fit the speaker into the door without it vibrating or rattling it out of the door. Otherwise, they sound pretty decent and my fiancé was definitely surprised to get them!

Pros: Style, color, sound quality, ease of installation

Cons: Guards didn't fit with the door panel, installation screws weren't long enough, wiring the speakers took a little extra elbow grease

These things are super small and light weight while pushing tons of power. The sound was good but what impressed me was their ability to not distort when I cranked the volume to max! I'll be buying again.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Le cambie las bocinas de fábrica del dash de mi jeep por las kicker y son muy buenas pero el sonido agudo es mucho más fuerte que el sonido bajo. Hay que dejar el volumen buen bajito para que se escuchen bien por que al subir el volumen distorsionan mucho. I swapped out my factory dash speakers on my Jeep for these Kickers and they are very good except that the treble is much stronger than the bass. You have to keep the volume really low for the speakers to perform well because when you turn up the volume they distort a lot.

Pros: Buen sonido bajito Good sound at low volume

Cons: No se puede subir mucho el volume You can't really crank up the volume

I bought these to replace an old pair of Polk audio 6.5" momos. All I can say is that they bump real loud with clarity and almost no distortion at high volume.

Pros: Nice bass considering the size of speakers . Mids and treble also very noticeable. Easy to install with scoche speaker bracket . High quality

Cons: None so far

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased two sets of the Kicker 43DSC6504's as they came highly recommended by a Crutchfield product advisor. I have to say, I'm so glad I did. Without getting into "audiophilesque" verbiage about shimmering highs, rich mids and a punchy bass, I'd rather give an "average user" perspective. (Audio is subjective anyway.) Okay, now onto the review. They sound amazing. The two-way design allows for a greater separation of the highs and mid-lows. (I left the stock "woofers" in my '05 GTO to handle the lower frequencies.) After a brief tweaking of the EQ from my JVC head unit, the clarity is greatly improved over the stock speakers I replaced. I'm able to turn up the volume much louder without distortion. I imagine an aftermarket 4-channel amp would make them come to life even more. I'd definitely recommend these to a friend who's looking to upgrade. For the price I don't see how you can go wrong.

Pros: Big step up from stock speakers. Huge separation from highs and lows given the 2-way design. Ability to crank the volume without distorting.

Cons: No cons about the speakers themselves. My Crutchfield MasterSheet listed a few incorrect socket sizes.

For my 10 Year old Nissan, This was a perfect speaker set for the front or back deck speaker locations. Yes, these will fit in both locations, with the exception of the provided bracket for the front doors. Also the adapters provided made the whole process that much easier. I would buy these again. Crutchfield makes all the difference when upgrading my car audio

Pros: Good Mids, low bass when adjusted correctly through the head unit.

Cons: small factory amp does not provide speaker with enough power

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I upgraded to these Kicker speakers after blowing my factory speakers in my 2002 GMC Sierra. I am extremely impressed by the sound quality of these speakers compared to the originals before I blew them and even a pair of more expensive Kenwoods I had installed in a previous vehicle. I was a little on the fence before purchasing these because they seemed so inexpensive and I wanted something with good sound quality that would last. After small adjustments on my stereo the speakers sound great at all volumes, and with different types of music. I am very glad I bought these and I would definitely recommend these if you are looking to upgrade your factory speakers.

Kicker 43DSC6504. Wanted to just replace the blown factory speakers in my truck. Didn't need anything real fancy or bigger so got the same size as factory (6.5) and they worked great. It was an experience to get them out but overall it was fairly easy. I didn't have to drill any holes just used the gear that was provided.

Pros: Nice sound. hocked right up and didn't have to do any wiring, splicing, or taping.

Cons: I have crew cab truck and the mounting brackets that were sent I didn't need to use.

Bought a pair of 6.5 kicker speakers to go into the doors of my old ford extended cab. They sound so much better than the stock speakers. They came with a free wiring kit which made installation a snap. Can't wait to buy a couple more speakers, amp and a sub from Crutchfield. The people at Crutchfield are very informative on any questions iv had. Really helpful.

Gene C. from Sinajana, Guam on 3/28/2016

2007 Toyota Tundra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I gave this product only 4 stars because it's hard to evaluate its full potential for my Tundra's application. My Tundra has two front door speakers (a tweeter dome at top corner and a lower oval location). The top tweeter has full range signal going into it from a junction in the dash corner speakers. The lower door has low range only coming from the stock JBL subwoofer amp. So the full range potential that I bought these 6-1/2's for wont be evaluated. I could have eliminated the top tweeter and ran that signal to the lower door location, but the power diminished from the dash corner domes I replaced. It wasn't worth killing two speakers to gain one full range. But as lows go, these are decent sounding improvement from the torn stocks it replaced. But the bass could hit harder; it may need baffling? The free air from the door doesn't make it sound great, but I doubt it was meant to take-on only sub signals either. Finally, the door stocks were 6/9" woofers, it's difficult to find replacements that won't interfere with the window tracks. You will need a very shallow 6/9" to use its full size potential, or allow the aftermarket 6/9 to stick outside of the door panel. It's up to you!

Pros: The free hardware adapters that came with this speaker made mounting easy.

Cons: Baffling may be needed for lower ranges.

Great Speakers for a Great Price!

Chevyloyalist from Whittier, CA on 3/5/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers to replace the stock speakers that came with my Chevy Colorado and I am glad I did. These Kickers deliver great sound straight from my Pioneer MVH-X380BT receiver and they compliment my Sound Ordinance B-8PTD 125 watt Compact Powered Subwoofer. The installation was relatively easy and I was able to finish in under an hour. I did not have to cut any wires during the installation. Crutchfield included some adaptors in order to connect the Kickers to the factory wires -- made things super easy. The only modification required for this install -- and it was very minor -- consisted of drilling holes with a drill bit in order to secure the speaker brackets to the doors. Overall, I am very happy and satisfied with the sound quality. Don't expect super bass thumping sounds from these speakers; however, if you want to enjoy super crisp sounds from your system at an enjoyable level then these speakers will do. Thank you Brit from Crutchfield for recommending these speakers for my truck.

Pros: Great price for great sounds. Easy to install. Did not have to cut wires.

Cons: None so far.

Features

Polypropylene Woofer Cones: The Kicker DS-series speakers feature durable polypropylene woofer cones for their rigidity and light weight. Polypropylene is also resistant to moisture and high temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Ribbed Polyester Foam Surrounds: The ribbed polyester foam surrounds allow extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL.

Balanced-Dome Tweeters: The 1/2" PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide, polymer film) balanced-dome tweeters provide a smooth high frequency response with quick, detailed and spatially-correct imaging. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone; balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter.

Mounting: The speaker baskets have multiple mounting holes and are designed to fit standard 3-hole 6-1/2" applications and Ford's 4-hole 6-1/2" applications. They will also fit many 6-3/4" applications, but a speaker baffle should be used to seal the inner ring of screw holes.

The information Robert provided in the answer above is pretty much spot-on! The Kicker 43DSC6504 are 4-ohm; and while nearly any aftermarket speaker will sound better than the stock speakers in your truck, the "best" one for you can vary depending on your personal tastes/listening preferences. If you would like to discuss further, please feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat--they can help determine if these Kicker's are right for you, and if not, recommend an alternative for you to consider. Thanks! [ Larry  Jun 18, 2017 ]  Staff
No, they are 4 Ohm. I can't say what will sound good for you or in your vehicle, as we all have different sound preferences, but any aftermarket speakers will sound better than factory unless you have a newer vehicle. I chose these because the power handling was lower than others. you don't want super high watts without using an amplifier. [ robert  Jun 16, 2017 ]
You can check to see if this will fit your vehicle by using our Outfit My Car tool: http://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx For additional details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle. [ Kenny  Jun 14, 2017 ]  Staff
This will depend largely on your vehicle. For details on installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on what you will need for an installation. You can also check the Crutchfield website. Enter your vehicle information and when you add the speakers to your cart any available harness will also be added. Hope this helps. [ Kenny  Nov 22, 2016 ]  Staff
They are relatively low wattage speakers so you will be fine running off a stock head unit. [ Dan  Aug 02, 2016 ]
