Our take on the Kicker KS60

You put some good bass in your car, but now your speakers just aren't hanging with your subs. Kicker designed their KS Series speakers to deliver the performance you need to bring that "live music" experience to your ride.

You put some good bass in your car, but now your speakers just aren't hanging with your subs. Kicker designed their KS Series speakers to deliver the performance you need to bring that "live music" experience to your ride.

The KS60 6-1/2" 2-way speakers use heavy-duty polypropylene cones supported by Santoprene rubber surrounds. These speakers can handle high-level playback without straining, especially when they're powered by an outboard amplifier. Each speaker sports a titanium 3/4" dome tweeter that broadcasts plenty of high-frequency sparkle, so you'll hear all the sonic details that make your tunes exciting.

Much needed improvement over stock, just wished I had gotten the coaxials in this size. Not the best fit in the rear doors of a 2000 Toyota 4Runner, even with the adapters, had to cut away metal from the door opening.

Very satisfied with the sound of my Kicker speakers. I sent back a set of JBL speakers for my motor home which did not have near the bass and upper range clarity of the Kickers despite a slightly higher price. I will now look at replacements for the car I tow behind the motor home.

Great speakers for the cost. The voice coil offers clear vocals at all volume levels. I did have to modify the rear door mounys on my 2008 Ram to make the product fit.

Pros: Great sound. Greater value.

Cons: Had to modify the rear door mounts to make them fit.

Pros: Great sound

Cons: Fit with factory water shield yields tweeter touching built in grille in door panel. Wish tweeter did not extend out quite so far.

I am sure they are great speakers, but the item description is incorrect, hence 1 star. These are not 6 1/2" speakers. They actually measure 6 1/4" and are listed on kicker's website as 6" speakers. Also, the documentation with the speakers called them 6" speakers.

Crutchfield response on January 24, 2017 Car speaker sizing can be one of most confusing things we deal with on a daily basis here at Crutchfield, and it helps to think of speakers in categories instead of sizes. Measuring a speaker will never yield the same number as its category. If you look at what we consider to be a 6-1/2" speaker, you'll notice the cone size is actually just over 5". To help our customers, we decided to take the research we did on speaker locations in various vehicles and translate that into what fits from the measurements we actually take from the speakers we sell. We hoped to eliminate some of the confusion and not mislead customers. These sizes are not always indicative of what the factory speaker size was. In any event, you can find out more about identifying speaker "sizes" here. Whenever you are not completely satisfied with anything you purchase from Crutchfield, please contact our Customer Support team. Purchases from Crutchfield can be returned or exchanged within 60 days of the purchase.

Awesome speakers! I installed these into my 06 Chevy Colorado with no issues. I have a crew cab model so the front pair had to be redrilled into the door but I was able to use the stock mounts for the rear. Overall great speakers. Also a lot of people were saying that there is no bass to them but in my opinion they've got plenty of bass without even pushing them hard at all. Hope this helps anyone who's looking for a great set of new speakers.

Pros: Crystal clear sound, easy to install, plenty of bass.

I have purchased many speakers from Crutchfield. I find that the "extras" provided beat the competitor. Aside form Kicker subs, this is my first door speaker from Kicker. I use them (currently) with the Honda in-dash factory radio, and it performs well: adequate bass and treble (combined with factory tweeters in the dash).

Pros: Reasonably priced, better than average performance

The clarity of these speakers is great. No distortion. Great price! If you are looking for speakers for bass buy a subwoofer. I plan on changing out my head unit, putting an amp to the speakers, and adding bass blockers, dynamat, as well as 2 12" subs. So we will see how they sound after that.

Pros: Good price, nice clarity

Cons: Not much bass from stock stereo

Great Speakers

Dan from Auburn, ME on 7/15/2013

These are great speakers. I replaced the 5 1/4" speakers in my Jeep Wrangler roll bars and they fit fine. They've got very clear and crisp sounds all the way around: highs, mids and lows. The bass isn't going to shake your car apart but it's very clear and if you want them to they can thump a bit. If you want outstanding bass you need subwoofers, no way around that. I'm powering them just fine with my Kenwood stereo but I would recommend an amp. Overall great speakers especially for the price.

Pros: Clean sound Look great Good price Powered well by aftermarket stereo Decent bass

Cons: Nothing

Have these in the rear doors of my 08 Ram 1500 Quad Cab. They provide quite a bit of decent mid bass. A lot clearer than I thought they were going to be, still hooked up direct to an aftermarket stereo. Very worth the money

Pros: Very easy to install, good sound from not a very powerful signal. Can't wait to finally get around to installing an amp. They'll thump even louder!

Cons: None I can think of.

Good replacement speakers

Cormac M from Janesville, WI on 5/28/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers to replace my front speakers in a S13 Nissan 240sx. Mid range is impeccable producing great notes and has the capacity to handle high volume. However I feel for kicker speakers the low frequency bass is lacking, at higher volume the speakers simply clip at low frequency. While the bass would be nice the speakers are truly for mid range car audio and it is great at that.

Pros: Great volume range Crisp notes Kick covers provided Clear instructions

Cons: Lack of low range

Ram Fan from New England on 5/23/2013

2006 Dodge Ram 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read a lot of reviews from Ram owners, and Kicker seemed to be the speaker of choice for the 3rd gen quad cab. I can see why. When I installed these speakers (along with a pair of Kicker 40CS6034's), I discovered that a previous owner had already replaced the factory speakers with a set of infiniti's, so I didn't expect much improvement. But the Kickers have a cleaner, richer sound with a lot more bottom end. They're a great upgrade, and I wouldn't hesitate to tell another Ram owner to step up to these speakers.

Pros: sound quality, cost

Cons: none

Beautiful Sound

Anonymous from Denver, CO on 4/17/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read some good reviews on these so I purchased them. I am a sound designer, so I would not settle for half decent sound, but I was on a tight budget for my car stereo. Could not be happier! These speakers have beautiful crystal clear highs, and a nice deep punchy bass. I can turn them up until my ears almost start to bleed and the sound does not deteriorate. Obviously these are not going to rattle your car with bass, but if you have a sub these speakers will work wonders. There are better speakers out there, for a higher price, but if you are trying to stay on a low budget, these are the speakers for you! I would definitely recommend these and buy them again.

Pros: Beautiful crystal clear highs, punchy lows, great price!

Cons: Nothing so far.

2004 pontiac vibe with 6 speaker and amp all factory moon and tunes package.rear speakers were getting bad. the kicker speakers are clean sounding. they offer NO bass though. the factory speakers have a lot !! more bass then these(vibrated the rear view mirror) and for crappy paper they sounded great too. sadly disappointed. customer service said it would take a couple of weeks. still no change. i expected alot from kicker and the reviews. i'm wondering if people who reviewed know what bass is. i've always liked crutchfield customer service and helpfulness - never a problem there.

Pros: clean and crisp handle factory amp great

Cons: no bass. factory speaker bass is wonderful for factory speakers.

Replaced the 4 factory speakers in my 05 Liberty with these beasts, ran them with a sony deck and they pumped out remarkable sounds and power at only 17rms. then upgraded to a alpine power pack, pushing 45x4 and the true sounds became not only much louder but crystal clear as well. any and everything from metal to rap and you'll be heard from a distance pumping out super loud music and crystal clear sounds. The clarity is just amazing with these. You obviously wont get mirror shaking bass but your music will be insanely clear, sharp, and you will not be disappointed what so ever. If you're not pleased with their sound, simply run more juice through them, the sound as well as clarity jump sky high when ran with proper wattages.

Pros: awesome sound for the price...too easy to install...handles tons of power... crystal clear...extremely loud

Cons: none from this buyer

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

first off the package was delivered a day early, which was sweet. The install instructions were a little vague, the bracket on the picture and the one they send you look completely different. There's a tab on the bracket you have to break off for it to fit flush to the door. I actually got away with not having to drill any holes into my door thanks to that speaker bracket. The wire harness was great as well. Overall install time was approx 45-50 minutes with my cousins help. Now the sound: versatile. I listen to all types of music and each one sounded sick on these speakers, just tweek the eq to your liking. there is a little distortion in sound with high volume and high bass but just turn the bass down a tad and you'll get to a pretty awesome medium.

Pros: versatility, easy install

Cons: slight distortion at high volumes with bass

Trust me with a amp these lil guys kick real nice & nice bang 4 the buck...Crutchfield is the best I have been getting their magazines for many years & finally i make my 1st order....thanks tommy

2002 Jeep Liberty
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For everyone concerned with the bass output of the speakers, here's some feedback. My goal was to replace my stereo and speakers in my vehicle. In order to determine the performance of the speakers, versus the performance of the stereo itself and to address the comments about poor bass output of these speakers, I replaced the speakers first and did a listen test. As others have commented, just switching out the speakers did very little to the sound quality in the car. The bass output was terrible. I then replaced the car stereo with a JVC KDR730T unit. Not anything too expense or powerful, but wow, did it make a difference. The sound came alive and the speakers sounded nothing like when they were connected to the old unit. These speakers do a great job for the size and price! If you have poor results from replacing your speakers, don't blame them until you upgrade what drives them.

Pros: Factory fitted, price, quality.

Cons: None

Proof is in the pudding...

PhilSam from Bartlett, IL on 7/17/2012

02 Jeep Wrangler with overhead Soundbar. What a difference?!!! I upgraded from stock speakers and head unit a few weeks apart. Old head unit with new speakers still impressive but, when the new unit came the true brilliance came clean. My sound engineer friend took a ride for beer and I gave him the goods at top volumn. The look on his face was worth it all. Quoted "the more you turn it up.. it just keeps getting clearer and clearer... and not distorted at all?!" High def was the only description that comes to mind. Rap, Rock, and very textured electronic Dubstep sound incredible. Now, I have to add. I do not expect low bass or much low/mid-bass. I have a 10" sub that fills in the rest. These are incredible with the proper complimenting speakers/subwoofers. If you do not have a subwoofer, don't expect to be bumping but, you will be screaming.

Pros: RMS is above standard head unit output. Turn it up without fear, in fact, you'll love it.

Cons: Jeep wrangler soundbar holes do not line up exactly. Have some patience and they will work.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My stock spkrs had more bass then these new Kickers. I'm just using the stock radio & was hoping for alot more sound then the 15yr old spkrs that came with the truck. These are mounted in the door. I bought these spkers after seeing they had about the lowest freq response of most 6.5". But I really don't hear much bottom (if any) at all from these. For the price paid, I was expecting much more. Crutchfield needs to be more clear on the spker brackets required for 6.5" spkers. Their site said I needed them for my S-10 having me believe there was some kind of difference. My orignal factory brackets worked just fine for these Kickers. I could have saved $ buying them from another site without brackets.

Pros: Fit opening.

Cons: Bass non-existent.

During my search for a good pair of speakers to match up with my amp, I think i went through every different type of speaker crutchfield had to offer on there website. Then with some help from one of the advisors (Troy) he suggested the Kicker KS60 and honestly these speakers blew my ears out of the water once they were set up with all the right adjustments on the amp and head unit. The Kicker KS60s replaced the front door speakers in my 07 Camry and were a definite improvement over the stock speakers. Very efficient, they don't require a lot of power to reach high volume levels and put out a nice, smooth sound. Not too harsh on the high end , nor muddy with the low end. I would like some more Kickers for the rear deck, if they would fit.

Pros: Great value!

Exactly what I expected with much better mid range response than factory. These replaced front door units on a 06 accord that has a factory component setup. I chose just to replace the door speakers first. I am happy with highs from the factory and didn't want to cut my interior for the extra tweeter. It doesn't make sense for me to attempt to replace the factory tweeter. Paired with these, the music has more clarity. There was no noticable jump in base response because these are not amped yet. A powered sub will be next.

Jimmy from Fla on 12/10/2011

2001 Dodge Dakota
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The KS60 is a great sounding speaker and is easily one of the very best speakers I have ever heard. It has excellent sound quality. The highs are crisp and bright but not harsh at all. the midrange is very warm and natural sounding and the KS 60 handles bass/low end so well that I was able to reduce the high pass crossover for my amp down to 120 hz. The KS 60 sounds better than other speakers I have heard that cost 2 or 3 times as much money. These speakers helped me solve a problem with lack of high end frequency response in my system. My old Alpine speakers were just plain worn out, and I think when my old amp went bad it fried some parts of the crossover network for my component speakers. I can also hear the KS60's that I put in my front doors a lot better than I heard my old speakers, even though they are down low and fire straight at my feet. I bought 2 pairs of these KS 60's, installed them yesterday and I could not be happier with the sound quality or the purchase itself. My system sounds great again, thanks to Crutchfield and Kicker!

Pros: The sound quality is excellent. One of the best I have ever heard in this price range. The free shipping was a definite added value. I ordered 2 pairs of KS 60's and the box weighed almost 15 pounds, which would have cost a lot to ship on UPS.

Cons: The fact I did not buy these Kickers much sooner.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace the blown factory speakers in my truck. I had read in some reviews that the KS60's wouldn't sound that good with a stock head unit or amplifier. Wrong. They sound terrific, no weakness at all. Even with higher bass settings, they still rock the cab of my truck. These speakers were a snap to install, less than 25 minutes each side, uncluding door panel removal. I'm now putting a set of KS40's in my cart to replace the back door speakers. Once again, Kicker comes through with a great product. And an A+ to Crutchfield for putting everything in the box that I would need. It makes installation easy enough for anyone.

I bought these speakers for the rear of my 2010 Venza. I upgraded to a power amp, Sound Ordanance powered sub and Bostons in the front. What a great difference the overall system feels from the factory base model. The Kickers are good, they do what I bought them to do. Because they are in the rear, I didn't want to spend a lot of money just produce lots of sound. Everyone that's sat in the back has enjoyed the sounds.

Polypropylene Woofer Cones: The Kicker KS-series speakers feature durable polypropylene woofer cones for power and control. Polypropylene is also resistant to the moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Santoprene Surrounds: The woofer surrounds are made of Santoprene rubber to allow extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL. Santoprene is durable and resists moisture for a long life.

Titanium Dome Tweeters: The 3/4" titanium dome tweeters provide a smooth high frequency response with a wide dispersion pattern. The tweeters have strong neodymium magnets for higher power handling.

Grilles: The KS60As come with graphite-colored, plastic, spoke-style speaker grilles.
