Hard-hitting CompS sub

The 12" CompS sub features a flex-resistant polypropylene cone for hard-hitting lows without distortion, while the ribbed foam surround promotes long excursion and helps to keep the cone on target. The sub's steel basket provides a reliable foundation for big bass, and extensive venting ensures long-lasting performance that won't break down when the bass gets heavy.

Heavy-duty enclosure

Sturdy medium-density fiberboard ensures long-lasting performance from the enclosure, and the special-design side port delivers more bass without getting sloppy. The enclosure's 2-ohm impedance draws maximum power from your mono amplifier.

Perfect for my application

Ben from Orlando, FL on 8/27/2016

It fits nicely in the upper corner of my sub cargo space, plenty of room for stroller and groceries. The 2 ohm voice coil let me get an extra 100 watts out of my amp for free. Sounds best with reggae and rap music. I highly recommend an amp bass control knob so you can adjust the bass for different songs.

Pros: Easy installation, 2 ohm voice coil gave me an extra 100 watts from my amp for free. Hits pretty hard for a single 12 inch. It handles 320 watts with ease. Had a underpowered sealed sub before and this is ten times better.

Cons: Bass guitar does not sound as good as I expected.

Sound quality is great compared to old system. Hits pretty hard

Pros: Looks and sounds great

Cons: Harder to tune than my old system, still working on it but worth it.

I like everything about the sub. I have no complaints about the sub because it was not expensive. As my roommate has what i'm sure is a twice as expensive JL with a twice as powerful amp its hard not to compare the kicker to it. of course it doesn't hit as low a note as often but honestly you don't need to rattle your brain every second you listen to it. The kicker has plenty of booming base for all songs of all genres, including dub step to rock. My amp came with a dial that wires up to the drivers seat so it is easy to change the level of power going to the sub at any time, but for most songs it is not needed as the rock songs don't send out a lot of 30 hz tones so it doesn't rattle the car itself. But rather you get a nice lower end that would be nonexistent without it. And of course on rap and genres more aimed at car rattling base it has just the right amount for me and i don't need anything more than this. I do wonder, however, if the box that is made for the sub is a little small for the sub. From what I researched, and i can't remember the exact numbers now, you needed much more cubic space inside the box for ported set ups and i'm not convinced their is adequate space inside the box made by kicker specifically for this sub. not saying that it is a set back as it still produces plenty of boom and the skinny, well not quite skinny, box fits well in the back of my open wagon and is angled to sit into the back of the seats.

Pros: Plenty of boom, can make your hair vibrate. sleeker box so it isn't a massive box that takes up your entire boot space

Cons: No cons, i just wonder if the box has enough volume inside that gets all of the possible boom out of the sub. but this does not diminish it from having enough boom.

Sounds Great

Great sub for the money

Brad from Cincinnati, OH on 1/28/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Have this sub in my 2014 Altima paired with the Sound Ordnance M1500 amp (500w @ 2ohms). The build quality of this sub is great right down to the terminal posts. This subs sweet spot is rap/hip-hop, electronic, EDM. Though it does add depth to all music in just plain rock seems a little soft but that was kind of expected with a ported enclosure. Doesn't take up a ton of room in the trunk and with the slightly angled back you can butt it up right to the back seat without a big void of space.

Pros: Build quality, power handling, size, big time thump for the money.

Cons: Not quite tight enough for rock music.

I love this sub in my car. Seems to have a somewhat low rms, but paired with the sound ordinance m1500 runs very nice and does not drown out the rest of the music but adds good bass for rock and pop and then when listening to rap this sub will vibrate your chest like crazy. Good price. Good quality. Not too big fits nicely in my 4runner.

Pros: Great sound Good size ported box

Cons: none

Perfect Match

I have a 2006 Hyundai Azera with an infinity system. I wanted a sub that wasn't going to over power the music but that blended perfectly with the speakers already in the car. This sub was perfect, your not going to turn heads from a block away but anyone in the car will experience clear deep bass and I'm sure anyone close by will also.

Pros: Easy to use, still have a good portion of trunk left

Cons: none

Hands-on research

Product Research

Speaker Terminals: The spring post terminals are mounted on the left side of the enclosure and will accept pin connectors, single or dual banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Woofers: The Kicker 40VCWS122 enclosure uses one 12" CompS subwoofer, wired to present a 2Ω load.

  • Ribbed Surround: The optimized ribbed polyurethane helps eliminate flex and distortion.
  • Spiralead Tinsel Leads: The durable Spiralead tinsel leads are woven into the woofer's spider, for added strength and reliability.
  • Steel Basket with Vented Pole Piece: The steel basket's vented pole piece and Kicker's Quad Venting slots contribute to the woofers' efficient cooling and durability.

Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker CompS speakers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The suspension system is very stiff out-of-the-box. Approximately two weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. Once broken-in, the subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

This sub fit well in the trunk of my car, leaving a lot of room for my hockey bag to fit. It sounds great and has a lot of boom to it. It definitely sounds better with rap and house music as opposed to other types. The install was as simple as could be and only took me about 10 minutes.

This is my first experience with installing my own personal subwoofer in my car. I can honestly say that this product held up to the hype. As a whole, it makes my music sound 100 times better and even with all the additional bass, there is no rattle in any part of my vehicle.
