The Terk Tower antenna is the affordable and easy way to improve both short and long-range radio reception. The Tower serves as two antennas in one. Mounted vertically, it becomes an omnidirectional antenna for great reception from all directions. Place it flat, and the Tower becomes a directional antenna that can be positioned to zero in on weak or distant stations.
Performance of the Tower is enhanced by its unique AirCoil technology that electrically isolates the AM and FM elements from each other for increased selectivity with dramatically reduced static and noise.
The antenna comes with everything necessary for installation, including a non-skid, scratch-proof pedestal, and a universal slip-on connector and matching adapters so you can use the Tower with almost every receiver, tuner or compact music system.
The Terk Tower uses active amplification to boost FM signals (+10 dB minimum). AM gain, fixed at +15 dB, is achieved through a passive (non-amplified) antenna element.
Average Customer Review(s):
Worked well before even being plugged in. Began receiving channel never received before..
Pros: Worked as advertised!
Cons: Wish it were wireless
A 4 foot piece of co-axial cable wire received "fringe" stations better than the Terk Tower even with full gain. The Terk Tower received only a slightly stronger signal on close local stations. A waste of money.
Good FM reception.Easy to install.
This is a nifty looking product. You need to experiment with the placement and and use of the amplification to get the best results. Rule of thumb seems to be - 'the higher the better'. Overall it works well.
Worked well - I am not in a fringe area - slightly better than the dipole - however upgraded receivers and guess what - Sony uses a antenna connection not supported- back to the dipole for now.
Works much better than simple wire di-pole I had been using. Antenna must be mounted 5 or 6 feet AWAY from the receiver for best results. This also helps more stations to come in as stereo. Gain control does not seem to affect reception, at least in my location.
Pros: Works much better than simple wire di-pole I had been using. Antenna must be mounted 5 or 6 feet AWAY from the receiver for best results. This also helps more stations to come in as stereo.
Cons: Gain control does not seem to affect reception, at least in my location.
I live in a suburb about 30 miles from Chicago. I listen to major Chicago classic rock stations, and I am having a hard time getting a consistent signal. I have to keep moving tower around. When I get it right, it's fine. Next time I go out to listen to the radio, it starts all over again. I don't get it.

This antenna works great. The cable are nice and long too. Fiddle with the gain; we have decent reception and the gain turned all the way up introduced some nose.
Pros: Nice looking Easy Long cables
Cons: No wall mount holes
Customer service great in selecting product. Works well with Onkyo receiver.
It is difficult to review an antenna because there are so many variables - distance from stations, station power, position in house, material in walls, etc., etc.. I had to move the Terk around a few times to get any decent reception, and have managed to pull in many stations now (of course, I wanted them all!). So given, that, I think it does a decent job, particularly for the cost. YMMV!
Connectivity is very easy. Nice clean look when installed. I have three of these and generally speaking, reception is better with the simple wire dipole antenna that comes with most receivers. I was willing to sacrifice a few stations to clean up the typical wiring mess.
Pros: Easy install. Clean look.
Cons: Reception, fair.
Wasn't as powerful as advertised. Easy to install, great looking, but doesn't pull in a station that is30 miles away very well. Alas.
Cons:Crutchfield response on 3/22/2017 We're sorry you're disappointed with your antenna. Able to get better reception than my old receiver. Thank you to the rep who suggested it.
I was a little hesitant to purchase this product due to a number of negative reviews that stated this antenna did little or nothing positive, but I can tell you that wasn't true in my case. I like to listen to tunes when I'm working in the garage, but the radio reception is terrible out there. I connected the Terk antenna, set the gain to zero, and tried to tune FM radio stations. Couldn't get a single FM station. Then I turned the gain up, and all of a sudden I could receive all kinds of FM stations. One of the things I particularly like about this antenna is it's small footprint, and I like the styling as well. But the thing I like the best about it is that it's working well in my particular setup. YMMV The only thing I don't like about this antenna is the wiring - kind of tangly coming out the back of the antenna. But it's a nit, and nothing a little electrical tape wrap won't fix.
Pros: Small footprint Aesthetics Amplification really works on weak signals
Excellent fit my needs perfectly.
I work in a truck shop and we have always had trouble with FM reception. The shop is right in the middle of the city and thought that this antenna would solve our issues. I am highly disappointed.
Pros: Looks good.
Cons: Doesnt work.Crutchfield response on 10/25/2016 Once we saw this review, our Tech Support team reached out to Ryan to issue an apology and help him further. We'll either help him get the antenna working the way it should, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.
Cons: Did not help our problem. Not the fault of the Terk. I am in a building that makes indoor antennas difficult.Crutchfield response on 8/8/2016 Our Customer Support has reached out to Andy to offer him a return. Purchases from Crutchfield can be returned or exchanged within 60 days of the purchase.
The antenna is much better than the original AM/FM antennas but I cannot accurately rate the device. It sits too close to a wireless box and some other equipment so there is always some noise associated with the FM stations I tune into. Again, because of proximity issues, AM is extremely limited and noise. I plan to try isolating the device in order to effectively analyze the device.
I had barely any reception where I lived. In fact, I could only get 1 station. That station would come and go. After installing the Terk Tower, I was able to get that station clearly. Also, I was able to get a couple more stations.
Pros: Was able to pick up a few stations I could not get using a normal antenna.
As advertised, easy setup, great reception now on those channels that would fade in and out when you moved around the room.
Pros: Easy Set up with great reception
Cons: A bit tall
I live in an isolated area - this really helps me get better FM reception. I'm using with an old Yamaha Natural Sound Receiver
Pros: Easy to setup
Was no better than a cheap wire antenna.
Cons: No improvement in reception. Waste of money for me.
The former (now very old) single wire antenna that came with the receiver did not perform well so this is an upgrade, the performance of which is reasonable, although it has not helped to receive some more distant stations as had been hoped.
Pros: Gets broadcasts from most nearby stations.
Cons: Even with amplification, does not pick up more distant stations.
Unit is really simple. Hook it up and plug in the power source, turn your stereo on and it really pulls in the stations that are out there. Being in the mountains, this has really helped.
For the price, price V.S. performance meets expectation. Installation is simple and the unit has a "Star Trek" look to it.
Pros: Good Value.
Cons: You might need an outside antenna if you are far from the transmitting stations.
We're located in a small, rural, mountain university community with poor AM and FM reception. There is slightly better signal strength with the Terk Tower, but keep your expectations in sync with my comments regarding any improvement in expanding the coverage range...marginal at best. Artie was great to work with, price was very competitive, but product performance is the weak link.
The improvement of reception is minimal - a T wire was almost as good. I am not far from the radio stations listened to - but inside the basement of a steel sided house the reception is not great.
This tower saved my life! When I had purchased a new amplifier the antennae it came with was junk! Now I can listen to all my favorite radio stations in AM and FM! Truly love it and it is good looking.
Pros: Great addition and very cute!
Cons: Would only work in an obscure place ,but quality is excellent.
works great for rural areas, picks up fm raido stations 80 miles away.
This antenna is a work of art in appearance. It works fine.
Pros: Excellent appearance and functionality.
Cons: Bright green light is distracting. I blocked it from shining directly at me.
this is a very good antenna every station get a clear signal
Great way to get access to all the stations I want to listen to.
Pros: Easy setup,
Great antenna can pick up stations that are far out from my area.
Pros: Great product
It improred reception well for FM. However AM reception improved somewhat it wasn't nearly effective as FM.
Pros: Ease of setup
Cons: AM reception
I live at the top of a tall hill so there should be little obstacles to most reception. The antenna does allow me to pick up a number of stations, also, not as well as had hoped. Using the gain control helps some. However, for the price, it works OK. Later I will look to see if there is a better antenna, but this did get me fair reception. I have this located vertically on a windowsill next to the receiver.
Pros: Low cost, good looking, works reasonably well with some gain tweeking.
Cons: Not quite as powerful as I was hoping for, given my high location.
Made absolutely no change in reception, on two different radios. bought a better radio that I could get reception used the trek on it, again no change in reception.
Pros: Good price, but you get what you pay for. return policy is ok however did not include return postage
Cons: Made absolutely no change in reception, on two different radios
Helped to clear up some difficult FM reception. Helps with my AM reception also. Good looks with a small profile.
Pros: Good reception, small profile, cool look.
Cons: None so far.
The tower antenna works very good, I am now receiving FM & AM stations that was not able to tune in before, I am very happy with the unit.
Pros: Easy to Install and it works very well, it will boost both AM &FM signals for a better reception
I have a pole barn and could only get one good radio station. I installed this antenna and I got several more stations. I had a different Terk antenna in the barn and it didn't work, so I was hesitant on trying this one. Excellent product. I liked it so much I ordered another one for our multi-room sound system. The difference was incredible.
Pros: Works really well picking up extra stations
Cons: Hard to hide since it's so tall
I got FM reception at my location with a rabbit ear antenna that could be adjusted with a dial to fine tune the reception. I no longer need to make any adjustments when I change stations with the Terk Tower antenna. All the stations I like to listen to are very clear with excellent reception. I find that the amplified feature of this antenna is necessary for excellent reception. I also like the way it looks.
Recommend by Sean. so far aright, glad to have it
WORKS VERY WELL ALLOWS ME ACESS TO RADIO STATION I WAS UNABLE TO LISTEN TO WITH ANTENNA
I live in a rural area and noticed a decent improvement in FM and AM reception. In particular, annoying noise and interference has been reduced. Being used on my office receiver, I'm not looking for anything too special and in this situation the antenna has worked out well.
Pros: Looks "interesting". Works for my situation.
Replaced the stock FM wire and AM loop on my Denon AVR1911 with this 2-in-1 upgrade. Cleared up reception on both bandwidths and improved aesthetics. Simply set it next to my HDTV in "omnidirectional" mode and forgot about it. Performs better than I expected. Very happy with money well spent.
Pros: Directional/Omnidirectional flexibility. Small in stature. Pleasing presence. Adjustible gain if needed. Cheap upgrade.
Cons: Used a "wire" for years before exploring my upgrade options--doesn't shout "buy me!"
The Terk Tower did not perform well. As a matter of fact a simple line of wire pulled in more FM stations. I was disappointed; however Crutchfield happily refunded my money when I returned the product.
Cons: It doesn't work.
complete waste of money. I am constantly adjusting placement of this piece. do your self a favor and don't bother. it wont even pull in a single am station. I hate this thing!!! a regular 18 gauge piece of wire is just as good! I live less than 20 miles outside of Philadelphia too. inferior product again!
Cons: wish I spent the money on a case of beer
Work as advertised and a fair price
Pros: Works, cheap
Cons: None, worth a try
This antenna works pretty well on FM, but I can't even pull in local AM stations. Might be a problem with my Sony receiver - it doesn't pull in much with the provided AM antenna.
Pros: Adjustable strength. Fits in small places.
Cons: Poor AM performance
I was in search of a new high powered antenna for my brick wall apartment to work with my Tivoli Radio. So far it is complementing the radio very nicely, Good buy for the price! I have nothing but good things to say about the Crutchfield Customer support.
Pros: Good Reach
I have to admit I was somewhat disappointed. The antenna really wasn't any better than a powered tv antenna I was using. My problem might just be the quality of the signal is strong but lousy. I also live in an area with many trees so it might not be possible to get a better signal.
Pros: Looks great.
Cons: Not much difference with what I was using.
I found no appreciable improvement, so i am back to the original antenna that came with the system.
Pros: Compact size
Cons: Reception not improved. Coax cable works as good.x
I bought the indoor antenna in hopes that I could get better AM and FM on my stereo tuner. For FM The antenna seems to perform about as well as a straight wire antenna made from lamp cord. I don't yet see where the antenna is superior. For AM reception the Terk seems to be about equal to the clip-on rectangular AM antenna that came with the stereo receiver. I have tried the Terk with two different receivers: An Onkyo 8555. and a Yamaha RX 300U. . For FM reception before the Terk, I used a long piece of wire attached to the wall on both receivers. I tried the Terk to see if it was superior in "pulling power" to the straight wire. The Terk may help FM some, but there is no dramatic gain. Sorry to sound negative, but the Terk provided limited, if an improvement. Were I was where I could not string wire and attach it, the Terk would be better by far than no antenna at all.
Very nice antenna, but in my area it does not work well, to many hills.
Good looking unit. Stands tall and has a pale green glowing dial. Other than that, my old flat wire FM behind the curtains did a better job in picking up stations. I live 6 miles from downtown Chicago and constantly have to move or adjust the antenna everytime I change a station. So much for omni-directional. Doesn't matter whether I have the gain all the up or down. Same deal. The Am side isn't much better. The stations are scratchy and have background static. I've tried moving it, lights on / lights off, TV on / off. Nothing helps. And the connecting wire is only about 3' long. It should be 6' and/or trimmable. My receiver is on the lower coffee table shelf and the antenna on top. Barely enough play to move the antenn from side to side. .
Pros: I haven;t found one yet
Cons: Read my review again.
picks up stations i couldnt get before.
Pros: works good
really helped me get some radio stations not possible with normal small loop antennae, even right next to the uverse wireless remote and other possible electrical interference. the gain is easy to use and helped dial in the best signal strength. the only thing i think it needs is an on/off button so that it doesn't stay on while the stereo is off.
I don't need additional stations which a more expensive antenna might produce, I just wanted my few stations clear and hiss free. My old recevier sounds great now. This antenna is easily placed out of the way, the connection options fit my wire connectors and the dial on the antenna tunes out the hiss of a station with a strong signal.
Pros: hides easily, doesn't take up space
Living in a metropolitan area with several FM and AM stations close by, I did not require extraordinary performance. The only measure that I have to evaluate performance is that every station that I wanted to receive is now available to my Denon AV Receiver at sufficiently strong levels to permit locked-tuning without distortion. I simply set the variable amplification level to bring in the weakest station and checked that the strongest station was not distorted. I believe the device combines unamplified-AM and amplified-FM features which simplifies the rat's nest behind the unit in one regard but the amplification requires a small AC/DC converter to power the unit, thus adding wiring. The power and signal wires are probably long enough for most applications. It was convenient to plug the power converter into the switched outlet at the back of the receiver, otherwise it would be a big problem to switch the unit off to conserve power when not operating the unit. The device occupies a small footprint but is quite tall; a fact which should be considered by the prospective buyer before purchase.
Pros: Inexpensive performance meets all expectations.
Cons: Tall size may be an issue for buyers who care.
It just didn't seem right to have a rabbit ear-type antenna sticking out of our expensive unit, so I had the another retailer rig up an adapter and plugged in this Terk Tower, and voila, reception in our rural PA area improved considerably. Certainly worth what we paid for this and more.
Pros: Modern looking, easy to hide and it works
Cons: None I can find.
I picked up one FM station and no Am stations without the Terk. I now get three to four FM stations and still no AM staions with the Terk.
Pros: Easy hookup. The gain control actually works. It looks good.
Cons: Only slight improvement in reception.
This worked good for my situation. Fast deliverly
Pros: Easy Hook Up
Cons: Short Cable
I live at the bottom of a valley where the reception is dismal. The stations that I did pick up are less than in my SUV but at least when I listen to them the static is eliminated. My other option would be an external antennae which is out of the question for now so the TERK did the job.
Pros: Pinpointing various stations
Cons: Short cable lengths to move it away from equipment and RFI.
I live in rural Indiana. The tower brings in the stations FM & AM stations I enjoy. Performs as advertised.
Looked for a solution to bad reception. This woorked for me
Better than the wire antenna that came with the radio - but the purchased amplified antenna must be moved around the room to get weaker stations in this rural area surrounded by iron-filled mountains.
good for rural areas, looks good also and has good adjustment knob
Rural type area. Picks up signals well. Easy hookup with good instructions. Would give this product a good rating.
I purchased it because I wanted to pick up a radio from the west side and I live on the east side. It worked no better than the atenna that came my receiver. Unfortunately the cost of the product vs. returning the product makes me debate whether to keep it or return it.
This item did not improve the FM or AM reception at all. Was for a Boston Acoustic radio located in our masterbathroom. Purchased to increase the Am reception which it didn't do. Did receive more static hiss though.
Not 100%, missing one of my favorate channels, but this was a big improvement form the wire Antena that came with the receiver.
Wow! We have tried almost everything. This works! Doesn't pick up all Atlanta channels but alot of them. We are getting more than we ever have. Love it!
I just needed to replace two old antennas on a mini stereo system I was too cheap to replace and the cost of a new antenna compared to a whole new system was an easy choice. My primary interest was AM reception for morning news/traffic/weather kind of stuff. AM comes in fine now. Used to cut in and out. Mine was a mild case, my system is facing a window but about 12 feet away.
After moving into my new house I was disappointed to find that my Yamaha RXV-1000 factory antennas were not up to the task of pulling in my favorite stations. Hoping for a low cost solution I bought the Terk Tower. Reception of both AM and FM is definitely better (cleaner) than with the factory antenna, but still poor since some stations are still absent. I get better reception in my Jeep parked in the garage. It looks like I am going to need an external or attic antenna.

The variable gain on the FM channels SOUNDS like a good idea, but I didn't realize that the gain would ever be smaller than a factor of 1. It seems to me that if I turn the gain all the way down I should get a non-amplified signal (x1); at worst I would get the same thing as the factory antenna. But no, I get no signal. Turn the gain up a bit and PRESTO! the signal comes back. In practice the FM reception is improved about as much as the non-amplified AM signals.
i live in the basement at my parents house i have tried many diffrent antennas the terk tower is the only one i have found that worked
Well I bought this to increase the antenna range on my sony STR-DE915 however it will not work with it. Although it came with a bunch of different adapters not one of them would hook up to my reciever. I have not found one antenna on the market that connects to any of my three recivers, I guess Im stupid, but every antenna I can find has a co-axial cord and every reciever I own has a plug type in-put. So this antenna actually worked when I hand spliced an RCA cord onto it, but the connection is choppy.

Placed mine on top of the speaker next tp a wall. Provided some improvement to a weak signal Placement is dependent on the signal source and is not a solution if there is no signal Performance did vary by source, one signal did gain some modest improvement another did not. Regarding the standard T antenna, I did not want to run that antenna up the wall and across the ceiling and that was the optima solution but, again, performance may vary by source. Overall, likely to be a hit or miss solution with modest performance gain, if signals are weak. [ Michael Jun 30, 2014 ]
Regardless of where I placed this device, it did not improve my FM reception. I live about 20 miles south of DC. The house is situated in a depression so most FM signals go way over its head, so to speak. The Tower may work better for you if you are closer the the signal source. [ William Jun 30, 2014 ]
