Our take on the Terk FM Edge

The FM Edge utilizes Terk's Dual Drive Amplifier circuitry, which minimizes noise in the FM signal with a 2-stage filter/amplifier. The amplification range is 0 to +36 dB, adjustable with a handy thumb wheel.

Reception sensitivity is enhanced with the newly developed Advanced Capture Circuitry, which helps lock onto signals in crowded areas, and also to improve reception for lower-powered signals.

The FM Edge's sleek good looks make it a stylish alternative to the clunky T-wire dipole antennas included with most receivers.

Product Research

Overview: This antenna is a convenient, stylish replacement for a normal FM dipole antenna supplied with most receivers. As with any indoor antenna, it will not function as well as and is not recommended for use as an outdoor FM antenna.

Dual-Drive Amplifier (DDA) Circuitry: Captures radio signals and minimizes noise in an FM signal with a two-stage amplifier before boosting broadcast frequencies for less noise.

Advanced Capture Circuitry (ACC): Enhances reception sensitivity which helps lock onto signals in crowded areas. It also helps improve reception of lower powered signals.

Controls: The only control is a black thumb wheel that is used to adjust FM amplification (from 0 to +29dB amplification).  There is a red LED on the bottom front portion of the unit which glows more brightly as amplification is increased.

  • "F"-Type: The antenna is fitted with an attached 6' antenna cable terminated by a push-on "F"-type connector.
  • Bare Wire Adapter: The antenna also comes with a 75-ohm "F"-type to 75-ohm bare-wire adapter,
  • AC Power: The AC adapter can either be left plugged in (constant power will not hurt the unit and there is little electrical consumption), or it can be powered to a receiver's switched AC output, if available.

  • Frequency Range: FM 88-108MHz
  • Reception Pattern: Omni-directional, 360°
  • FM Amplifier Gain Range: 0 to +29 dB
  • FM Output Impedance: 75-ohms (adaptable to 300 ohms with included adapter).

Why did you buy this?

I chose this based on the advise of my service advisor CJ. [ David  May 27, 2017 ]
This is my third Trek they make my Fm listening static free. [ John  Apr 26, 2017 ]
This unit was suggested to us from your company via email. [ Peggy L.  Apr 12, 2017 ]
It has improved my FM radio reception!!! [ Bruce  Mar 21, 2017 ]
Like moving 50 miles closer to the radio station. [ GEORGE  Dec 16, 2016 ]
The fact that this antenna is designed to filter noise out of the FM signal prior to amplification, and that it also in general seems to suit my application, is what drew me to the Terk FM4000. I called and spoke with an excellent Crutchfield associate to check my thought process and technical reasons, and they seem well founded. [ JOHN  Sep 26, 2016 ]
own 2 other Terk antennas. negative comments by other buyers not my experience. question whether they understand the products or how to use them. would use one Terk I own except missing a part, and it is too large. [ L M C  May 19, 2016 ]
to improve fm signal in building [ Joe  May 13, 2016 ]
This was rated well and seemed to fit my needs. That is an antenna to pick up more distant stations. I live in the woods and while I'm on a small hill, the mountains interdict most of the C'ville stations. [ MIKE  May 09, 2016 ]
hoping it will help [ michael  May 01, 2016 ]
trusted crutchfield to give me good advice and save time and hassle of looking elsewhere [ BRIAN S  Apr 01, 2016 ]
I already purchased a similar unit a long time ago. It failed afer about 10 years in use. I was very happy with the anntena unit. [ Omar B.  Mar 12, 2016 ]
This was recommended by the Crutchfield advisor (Tim) as a decent indoor antenna to improve our reception; we are not looking to add something to the outside of our house. Since there are so many factors that impact receiving radio waves that we are taking a chance but because Terk has a great reputation, we are willing to give it a try. [ Ellen  Dec 20, 2015 ]
I am far out in the country. Thought the Terk could drag in a signal for FM, but it didn't. Wound up returning it and rigging the "T" wire antenna on a T stand made from PVC, that can be adjusted to acquire the signal. Thank you US Navy for the Radioman training. [ Joseph  Dec 08, 2015 ]

2 questions already asked

The ant. Input on the back of the Tivoli os a 75 ohm and the terk is a 1/8" plug, so this will not work. [ KEITH  Sep 15, 2015 ]
I cannot say for sure, but it does a good job for my Marantz tuner, we live in a depression... [ MIKE H  Sep 15, 2015 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: This Terk product should do very well for you. For the most part, the reviews have been outstanding on it and should be an upgrade over a standard antenna. If you get absolutely no reception at all, it might be an issue with the antenna input on the back of your receiver. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Nov 21, 2014 ]  Staff
