Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great little receiver

Pros: Easy to hook up. has all the hardware. I like it.Displays the artist and the name.

Cons: Hard to see the Xm station number. To many little wires on my dash. Hearing a humm.Maybe from the ac plug in. The Crutchfield tech is sending me another complete tuner to try and solve the problem. Other wise works well.

Do not buy

Young from St. Paul, Mn on 2/18/2015

I gave up on these units, I have had 3 differant models over the years and had the same problems with all 3. I think the only reason these units get any positive reviews is because the reviewers have had them very long. Poor design for the connections to the base result in constant fiddling to get the unit to work. Back lighting fails, buttons fail leaving you with only the remote to control the unit until that eventially failed too. Everytime I was forced to buy a new unit Sirius wanted to charge me to switch the account to a new reciever. These units are complete wate of money. I would have rated these units a negetive number if I could have. I don't mean this to sound like a rant but the quality of these units is absolutely horrible.

Pros: absolutely none

Cons: Everthing about them is a con which is a shame because I like the variety of music that sat radio offers. Over the air stations have become like tv, nothing but commecials with poor and limited content.

Beautiful upgrade!

I had to buy a new satellite radio after 6 years and I love this unit! The best thing is it picks up the extra stations my old unit didn't. The color screen with station logos is great! The only thing I miss, is there is no longer the time display but oh well.

Sirius XM Edge

Paulette F. from Roanoke, VA on 10/3/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was my first purchase of a satellite radio. I was connecting it to a SD2 boom box from Sirius and was surprised at how easy it was to follow the directions to get set up. The sound is magnificent and easily competes with a Bose system in my opinion. I have been delighted with the variety of programming. I found exceptional customer service from the Crutchfield team and from Sirius radio staff. I would highly recommend the Edge and the Crutchfield company.

Pros: The Edge is easy to set up and use and the quality of the sound for the money is an excellent value.

Cons: The only difficulty I had in hooking the Edge up to the boombox was that it took several attempts to get the radio clicked in securely enough to prevent in and out reception. Once I took the radio off the dock and reinserted the dock and the radio with a little more pressure the connection was made and the reception has been perfect.

Exceptional Value

The Crutchfield Installation was fast and he did a good job.

Pros: This receiver is easy-to-use and works great!

Cons: None.

XM Edge is great!

RobertH from Lancaster, PA on 8/22/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

XM Edge is a great unit. I used this to replace a very old XM Roady unit in my car that quit working.. Had no trouble installing it and setting it up. Got it activated fast over the phone. I even used my present XM antenna that I had installed on my car. Didn't use the included antenna. Love it that it was compatible with the new unit. Plugged right in. Made installation easy for me. Everything works great. Display is great. Use the built-in FM modulator to feed my factory installed car radio. Works as good or better than my old Roady. Highly recommend this unit. You get a rebate and free and fast shipping from Crutchfield. Greatly appreciater tha!

Pros: Everything

Cons: Nothing

Good but gets bad

Ken K from Shenandoah, Pa. on 8/20/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have this radio over 3 years. It worked great up until about 3 months ago. Aggravated driving down the road to lose reception and get a check antenna message, kind of irritates a person. Antenna is fine as the radio/cradle both are cheap and do not last. My radio has taken a beating from me a few times as I keep getting that antenna message. wedge the radio in the base it works, for a few miles, then antenna warning, adjust radio in base it works then don't. I ripped it off the dash a few times and right now is working laying on the console "face down". Do not buy this receiver, as it'll let you down at one point. Cheap Crap!

Pros: Works Great for about 3 years

Cons: Pothole ridden roadways will pay its toll on the cheapP mount and internals of the receiver. It'll let you down when you least expect it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Unit arrived as "new' -very satisfied except ac vent mount doesn't fit my Chrysler van.

Pros: Seems to be very sensitive even though I mounted the antenna on my dash since the windshield is huge. Installation very simple.

Cons: Hard to see station number - very small.

XM Radio that ok

The Builder from Orlando Florida USA on 3/29/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a Delphi Skyfi2 for the past 6 years in my 2005 SCION XB that served me well. The jog wheel finally gave out and I needed a new Sat Radio. I did buy my wife an XM XpressRCi (Color Screen) a few years ago, but wanted another unit for my car. I looked into this unit since it had the jog wheel that I was familiar with and 10 preset buttons on the right side and a good layout of the buttons on the unit. I have a home and car dock and this will suffice for now.

Pros: Fairly well built, good sharp screen, knows when its docked (home use turns off FM broadcast), knows when its in the car (turns on FM via Power Connect FM Transmitter. Good layout of screen. Quick menu Genres via buttons below tune wheel. Quick bootup from power up. Good SAT radio reception no fade. Xtra XM Channels can be heard with the EDGE receiver (Sirius XM 2.0 update). JUMP feature can jump to previous channel or set to monitor weather. ALL THE SONG info will show on screen and scroll !

Cons: Really dudes you took away "Tune Select" from this radio. The WAY COOL feature that automatically tuned to the statiion that is playing your favourite soug on a channel. AND you took out the Clock Display in the top right corner, the time signal is already in the XM Stream why not display it. Im not a sports fan but you took the Sports and News ticker tape band on the bottom of the display out too !!! These are not deal breakers but not that hard to have left in the units capabilites.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

With my old receiver I couldn't take it anywhere. It was stuck in my work truck. And with my subscription I am only allowed 3 devices, so with 3 cars that was the only time I could enjoy satellite radio. But now I an take this anywhere I go.. My car, wife car, (or any other car I might be in) inside my house or out camping with the family. I was once worried about only being able to hook 3 devices to my account and now I only need one

Pros: Portable, easy hook up

Cons: Needs to be plugged in

Pros: Works in small cars where display is in direct sight

Cons: I have it in a truck would not recommend where I had to set it can see the screen.

Sent back first Edge because of poor dock to Edge antenna connection (didn't last 1 day). Replacement...same problem. I use a small bungee to keep the connection firm. These are not up to the beating of a semi-tractor cab.

Pros: Nice display and features.

Cons: Not durable enough.

YG from Brookline, MA on 6/30/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently purchased this radio because of a new long commute. The radio works very well. I attached the antenna myself near the passenger door to test the reception and have kept it there. (I only get blocked reception in tunnels and in one stretch of high that is like being in a canyon.) Sound quality is decent (but not great) through the AUX jack into my radio. As others have said, the tuning knob is very sensitive and needs a very light touch. I also find the display a bit small - I can read the title & artists fine, but the station icons are too small to see, which is annoying when I am looking for a particular station. I separately purchased a windshield mount which I find much easier to adapt to my car. The vent brackets were annoying to use. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this product.

Pros: Overall works very well.

Cons: Adjusting knob very sensitive. Difficult to see station icons on the display. Doesn't include a windshield mount.

Good product but defective connection. Mixed review

CynthiaG from Olathe, KS on 6/23/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had this installed and it worked fine but sound only came through one speaker. It wasn't the car's system because regular radio and iPad sound came through all speakers. It wasn't the car's AUX jack because iPad sound came through the AUX jack. I could not get the Sirius customer service people to understand this. Their solution was to have me send the radio back to them for replacement. Which is fine, except that I had paid to have it installed, would have to pay to have it uninstalled, and then pay to have the replacement installed. Finally a more 'senior' tech person suggested that we do the alternate installation system: instead of going through the AUX jack we use an unused FM station to get the sound. She walked us through the steps and now it works find. I would give it 5 stars for the product - it's easy to use and I like Sirius a lot. But a (I assume) connection defect isn't a 5-star product and the troubleshooting was inadequate.

Pros: Simple to use, small and handy

Cons: Installation instructions not clear. Sirius customer service not very thoughtful.

Pros: Quality product

Cons: None

Not bad, but....

Steve from Sandy, UT on 5/25/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed the Edge into a 2008 Honda CRV. Installation was a little frustrating trying to figure out a mounting position for the unit. On the dash is handy but subject to glare and very visible from outside as the car has a huge windshield. Also the CRV has such tight seams between dash pieces that the cables wouldn't fit down in to them for a clean look. As other reviewers have noted, the Dock and Play unit is pretty lightweight, with flimsy locking tabs and the resulting loose fit that vibrates (the noise is not noticeable if music is playing). The adhesive on the mounting pedestal gave up after 3 weeks mounted vertically even after cleaning the lower dash with the alcohol pad, although a friends unit has lasted 2 years mounted on the dash in a horizontal position so maybe the fault is w/ my mounting location. Also the tuner face is a magnet for dust and hair, and the rotary knob is too easy to turn w/ no feel to it so bumps in the road translate to lots of unintended movement. The clarity of the music is ok, and it is nice to not have to change cds with a good variety of music on each channel. I gave the unit only 3 stars mainly because even though it functions ok, the parts don't have a quality feel to them. Lastly, the unit pops through the speakers when the car is turned on or off. As a side note, this is in my wifes car and she loves the variety of music, and the info on the display.

Pros: Inexpensive after rebate, tuner functions well

Cons: Needs better quality parts, especially the mount and the rotary knob

Great Radio

BoB W. from Rockford,TN on 5/3/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love that this radio lets you preview what's playing on other channels. You can browse the channels by lists of genres, your favorites, or all channels in numerical order of the channel number! I also like being able to replay a song that I'm listening to or songs that have been stored in memory (up to 30 minutes). Artist names or song titles will scroll if they're too long for the display. If this is your first satellite radio, trust me, you'll never go back to listening to FM. On top of all that, Crutchfield's well trained staff will be able to answer ANY type of question that you may have.

4th Satellite receiver

Rick H from Sarasota FL on 4/14/2013

This XM unit was purchased to replace my first-gen Audiovox Sirius receiver. SiriusXM still treats each brand separately. I had to cancel one of the two units on my Sirius account and open an XM account - losing the multi-receiver discount. Internal FM modulator has multiple selectable frequencies that are easily adjusted. FM adapter cable is not supplied. Stereo phone jack for line output requires adapter cable to RCA plugs, not supplied. Display is multi-color with graphics and not as legible as the old Audiovox. Also only has 10 presets, not 20 like the old unit. Very slim design with decent recessed connections on the dock. Ahhh....the dock. Unbeleiveably flimsy mounting. I bought a second mount kit for another vehicle. The ball mount is difficult to tighten securely. The rear slide mount places the unit over an inch from a rear mounting location and requires screws to supplement the sticky tape. The dock latches into the rear slide mount. Bottom slide mount has no latch, so the whole dock slides off the mount when accelerating. If I only used it in one vehicle, I'd glue it, but the second dock is shuffed between my company car and RV, so I put up with the problem. Power supply is only available as a cigarette lighter adapter, so you must rig a socket if you want to conceal the wiring. Overall, it works as intended, but aside from size, it is a downgrade from the old Audiovox unit.

Pros: Compact, Line level output.

Cons: Flimsy mounting system, passable display legibility.

Very Happy

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

New to XM radio. I take x-country trips and XM radio is just what I need. I am pleased with the variety of music, sports news & talk. The Edge was easy to setup in the car. The Edge is great for my needs.

Cons: Needs a remote for the driver.

SiriusXM Edge

Travis from Wichita, KS on 4/10/2013

Overall a great device, pros outweigh the cons for the price.

Pros: Affordable, portable (one radio/multiple locales), great sound quality, sharp color display, seems durable in construction.

Cons: Only 10 presets. Car kit doesn't actually include the FM transmitter- only an auxiliary cable. Descriptions of the Edge car kit, particularly on the box, left me with the distinct impression it was included (separate purchase). I've read that the FM transmitter was integrated with the 12v power adapter, but not so on the SX1EV1. Non-illuminated remote keys, & the keys require a bit more pressure than one might expect. Remote requires a CR2032 coin cell (not AA).

Really nice great radio for the price. pause rewind feature is nice.

Pros: Nice color display.

Steve from Wantagh, NY on 12/31/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first satellite radio. I chose this over the Onyx only because of the ability to pause and rewind, plus a few other navigation features. Installation is a snap. Reception is also very good with the antenna on the dash of my minivan. Vent clip is a little too flexible for my likes, it makes tuning a little difficult while driving. Will be looking into alternate mounting soon. Sound is excellent using the AUX input on my in-dash receiver. Crutchfield staff, as usual, very helpful and knowledgeable.

Pros: Great commercial-free alternative to over-the-air radio

Cons: Takes up cigarette lighter outlet. Would like to have hardwire option.

Terry K from Beaumont, TX on 11/15/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm very impressed with the Edge. I had a dedicated satellite radio in my previous vehicle and had gotten a bit spoiled to XM radio - my current vehicle just has the aux-in jack, so I thought I'd take a chance on the Edge. Very easy to install, just taking a little extra time to tuck in the few wires for a neater looking installation, and it sounds just great!

Pros: easy installation

Cons: none

Works ok

Anonymous from Wyoming on 11/12/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My impression of Satellite radio was that it sounded a bit like stereo over a cell phone. Yes, it worked but the signal quality was noticeably off from broadcast FM. I was told that the newer devices like the Edge had much better quality of sound. I am still underwhelmed with the sound quality, but it usable and will be better than what we have for traditional radio in this part of the country. Oddly, it sounds better in the car, than it does at home. Crutchfield has been great to work with and the will accept the unit for return up till 60 days if I am not happy with it. Hard to beat that kind of support on electronics.

Pros: Product and parts were complete and easy to install. I had some technical issue with not picking up all the channels. Called Tech Support and within a reasonable wait time they updated software and corrected the problem. System works correctly and receives all channels.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A little difficult to find a place on the dash of my 2002 Chrysler T&C but I finally cut down the mounting foot of the enclosed bracket and screwed it to a blank off plate next to the rear window wiper.

Pros: Relatively easy to install if you know what you're doing. Doesn't look bad where it is. Easy to see and operate.

Cons: Sound is only as good as the radio which isn't as good as I'd like it to be. But I love the no commercials music. Would like to have a power cable that I can run to the fuse box instead of a cigarette plug power connection.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great but too many features the average person will never use why duplicate every control with the remote? not very user friendly. Just put it on a station you like and forget it.

Pros: tunes stations and lets you know which one you are on

Cons: difficult to figure out --just use the remote, find station and control volume

nice alternative to am/fm

gk from washington on 7/5/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Added to my 2005 Nissan Frontier for a x-country drive from WA to the southeastern US. Works as advertised. Installation was easy; I used the adhesive mount and located it left of the steering wheel on the dash.

Pros: Clear, advertisement free music. Pretty simple installation using included instructions plus Crutchfields master sheet supplement.

Cons: Reception is hit or miss in mountainous areas, not the radio's fault. Mount is a little flimsy; I am hesitant to use one hand to operate the controls as the unit moves quite a bit with each button push.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product at an affordable price. I do have a lot of car audio installation experience so this was pretty easy for me. Even so it still took me less than an hour to install in my wifes RAV4. The only complaint I have is that it didn't come with a free trial subscription but that isn't Crutchfields fault. I look forward to many long drives with commercial free music this summer!

Pros: Easy install, easy to program. Activation took only minutes.

Cons: Didn't come with a direct hard wire kit or free trial subscription

Sorry, but I cannot answer. Mine is mounted in my car and that's the only way I've used it. [ DAVID  Mar 31, 2014 ]
Thank you Vincent, your answer was really helpful. [ Luis M  Mar 25, 2014 ]
The Edge will NOT work unless in a cradle. You can buy a boom box (with its cradle) or a home kit (with its cradle) The cradle provides power to the unit, a connection to antenna and access to output like headpone or stereo or powered speakers. The unit does not play ANY recorded music like an ipod. I have the car, home and Boombox kits and I love them all. [ VINCENT J  Mar 25, 2014 ]
sorry, but can not answer the question. why dont you call call the supplier [ WILLIAM C  Mar 13, 2014 ]
No. Must be in cradle, not a portable. Recorded audio is more like a pause on a dvr... it will pause for up to 30 minutes. Once power is cut that segment is gone. [ VICTOR  Mar 13, 2014 ]
