Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this siren to replace the original 27 year old siren on my Code Alarm. The original was loud. This one is higher pitched and painfully loud. It is also easy to connect. Two of the 4 wires connected directly to the old alarm wiring (+12 v and ground trigger) the third wire connected to ground. Fourth wire (+ trigger) is unused on my system. I'm happy with the size and easy mounting. If you use a chirp function with either arming or disarming, it may be unacceptably loud in residential areas.

Pros: Compact, easy installation, priced right.

Cons: None

Overview: The Code Alarm MBS Multi-Tone Battery Back Up Siren is designed to provide maximum protection for your vehicle. The siren has a rechargeable battery, which stays charged by the vehicle's main battery. If an attempt is made to bypass your car security system, either by cutting power to the alarm or disconnecting the vehicle's battery, the MBS will sound for up to 15 minutes. Once power is restored to the siren, the MBS will return to normal operation (muted until triggered by the alarm).

Wiring: The MBS Battery Back Up Siren has a 3-wire hookup procedure. After connecting the red (power) and black (ground) wires, you should connect the trigger wire depending upon how the alarm sends the output to the siren. For positive triggers, the purple wire is connected, and for negative triggers, the blue wire is connected. The unused wire should be tied off and secured to prevent accidental operation.

Battery Test: The siren has a key switch (with 2 keys provided) for testing the battery backup feature. The testing procedure simulates disconnection of the vehicle's main battery, and will cause the battery backup to take over and operate the siren.
