SiriusXM SXSD2 Portable Speaker Dock
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Perfect for our travels with no electricity available
The beauty of SiriusXM satellite radio (besides the amazing array of programming, of course) is that you can enjoy it wherever you go. SiriusXM's SXSD2 Portable Speaker Dock lets you enjoy your favorite programs at the park, on the porch, or in any room of your home.
Your favorite SiriusXM programs will sound great, indoors or out.
It's designed to work with a variety of SiriusXM, Sirius, and XM Dock-and-Play radios, including the Onyx Plus and Onyx EZ. You can even connect MP3 players and other audio devices via the aux-in jack (cable sold separately).
The SXSD2's sleek design looks great anywhere, and the included remote control lets you adjust the volume or pause, rewind, and replay live shows without getting up. You can plug it into the nearest AC outlet, or pop in eight "D" batteries and take it with you when you go outdoors.
The concealed fold-up handle and built-in antenna cradle (which also offers cable storage) make it easy to take your tunes from one place to another. Place the built-in antenna on a windowsill when you're indoors, or attach it to the back of the SXSD2 Portable Speaker Dock when you're outdoors.
Your favorite programs will sound great, indoors or out, too. The 2.1 sound system really rocks, with separate tweeters, midrange speakers, and a powerful subwoofer that pumps out some seriously impressive bass response. If you want to listen privately, just plug a set of headphones or earbuds into the front-panel jack.
Note: SiriusXM radio and subscription sold separately.

Unit works well and has excellent sound. Only used it a couple times. Waiting for pool season.
bought this to put in my office. i usually just listened to xm radio thru my fm radio in the office. but we are moving to a new building and didn`t want to re-wire an antenna. so i thought about this item. i also didn`t want to spend a lot of money. when it arrived i plugged unit in and placed the antenna toward south and put my onyx receiver in the unit. to my surprise, this little inexpensive unit has great sound!!! deep bass, crisp highs & mostly...NO DISTORTION! would recommend this unit to anyone wanting an xm/sirius "on the go" or perm. install.!!!
Pros: beautiful sound, portability.
Cons: none at all!!!
I like it ??
Love the unit, can take it anywhere
Works perfect with potable radio
Adds flexibility to my dock and play Sirius XM unit. Also easily use the Aux port to turn my phone into boombox.
Very good product, works well
Great product. Surprisingly decent bass - I was not expecting that. The instructions looked like there was going to be an issue with antenna placement (had issues with the Sirius home kit and antenna placement so figured this would be the same), but it worked in about 80% of the locations throughout the house without even taking the antenna off of the mount on the dock! Crutchfield service on the delivery was awesome too (as usual).
Pros: Great Bass. Easy to Use. Antenna placement was not an issue.
Cons: None so far. Will see how long the 8 D cell batteries last...
Definitely A Have to Have item! Easy set up and superior looks and sound.
Great value and great sound!
It works well, is easy to use, and it satisfies me with use of the Sirius radio.
I like the box, I cannot say the same about Sirius tech support. The sound quality is great. Getting the antenna to work, not so easy. questions to tech support at Siruis were not well received or answered. So with some trouble shooting of my own, I finally got it all to work. I will admit that my major problem was following the guidance in the set up to call Sirius not the seller for any support. So in the future, I will just call Crutchfield. Once all the tech stuff was out of the way. it is much better for use and sound than the portable speaker I was using and fills the need I had at my farm.
Pros: Good sound and controls
Cons: Antenna hook up is tricky
We bought this and the SiriusXM Onyx Plus radio to take with us to the big Eclipse campout in Oregon. Nothing wrong with the radio unit itself or the antenna, but the SXSD2 would not operate on 8 new Duracell D batteries -- the radio would shut off after half a second, and sometimes the blue "ON" ring would turn red. Unit worked when plugged into AC outlet, but that is poor consolation. I design electronics, and worked with it quite a while, to no avail. Crutchfield accepted the return graciously. Kudos to the mobile telephone companies for setting up extra cell capacity for the cheerful mob at the Eclipse!
Pros: Handsome unit. Sounds fine.
Cons: SMB antenna connector is a well-performing RF connector, but not nearly robust enough for multiple consumer attachments. Specs say 500 cycles -- maybe by professionals, but not consumers. Be careful! DC power supply failure should have been caught by QC.
Great sound!!! Easy set-up and always terrific customer service from Crutchfield.
Pros: Great way to utilize Sirius Onyx..Terrific sound!
great product ..great sound ...portable take anywhere
i think these are great if your careful with your things its very tuned and well balanced
Pros: well it has alot of setting opinions
Cons: it little heavy
Great sound, very clear, well worth the money.
I bought this for the portability of XM Radio. As it turns out I discovered I could sit the docking station on top of my cd player. The cd player has a USB input. So now I can play XM radio, CDs or music from my flash stick using the aux input in front of the docking station. I no longer need all of the speakers and power amp along with a subwoofer. This is small enough to fit in the corner of my living room freeing up a large space that the old stereo took up. Well worth the money. The docking station has two tweeter, two mid range speakers and a downward firing subwoofer. I'm very happy.
Pros: Good sound.
Cons: Got Nothing.
Was not sure what to expect but this unit is great. We have put it in the kitchen and listen to everyday. My wife is extremely gratified to now have a radio without all the commercials and all variety of selections. We have only had since right after Christmas but so far so good. The only thing she wishes is if there was a Rolling Stones Channel. The only other quirk would be no Bass or Treble adjustments
Pros: Great price and enjoyment
Cons: No complaints
The portable speaker dock works great and sounds great.
I am very happy with this product.
The Dock is a great way to take advantage of a radio you can move from car to home. Sound is very good and the remote has good range. Perfect for a party. Well worth the money.
I really like the portable speaker dock, it works great, sounds great, very glad I bought it!
Great product. Looking forward to using it to listen to my SiriusXM in the garage, out in my storage shed and also in my living room.
This product performs as expected.
Pros: Works well.
Cons: Cheap plastic adapter for connecting different radios can use some improvement.
This is a replacement for the old one, which did not fit the new transmitter. As per the old one, the sound is great. It's not too heavy, and we transport it in a tote that fits it. We take it wherever we stay and have the music we like.
Pros: Good Sound. Portability. And, Best Of All, the great Customer Service Dept. at Crutchfield.
Cons: Other than needing to be transported, I can't think of any.
Very good product. Excellent sound.
Plays great with boom box
Cons: Doesn't work for car
Much more bass than I expected for a unit this size. Plays plenty loud enough too. Nice compact remote. Antenna cord is quite long giving more versatility for placement. Very much recommended.
Pros: Headphone jack, AUX input jack.
Pros: Sound is very good
Great radio with really good sound. Only the manufacturer doesn't mention the antenna must face south with obstruction. For me that wasn't a problem but was a surprise. Reason for only 4 stars.
Works anywhere & has a auxiliary input as well! Highly recommended!
Pros: Auxiliary Input.
Cons: No dedicated remote storage, but I put it in the battery compartment.
Pros: Easy to use, sound quality
My overall opinion of this product is it did not, live up to expectations. The unit is heavy to carry around and the reception in my area is spotty. The radio is a built in cord wrap for the antenna cable, but no thought was given to additional space to wrap the power cord. When not plugged in the power source is 6 D cell batteries making the unit even heavier. Total usage time on batteries is less than 8 hours. Perhaps later versions will have rechargeable batteries similar to laptops or other portable devices. I would not purchase this unit again nor would I recommend this to others.
Pros: Good sound. The ability to take my Sirius radio with me outside of the vehicle
Cons: Too heavy, usage time while on batteries is less than 8 hours. No place to store and wrap power cord
Given the fact that not all stations have the same quality this unit does quite well. It does have a center bottom mounted sub-woofer which is works well with the stations that have good quality. Takes 4 D cells under each end speaker, however, balances well and is no issue to carry. The little square antenna mounts on top and does grab a signal from inside my 2 story house. I was impressed with that ! All in All a good unit.
Cons: It would be nice if the antenna could rotate while mounted on top the dock. It would make it easier to place the unit and keep everything in one place.
very nice and as described
Would be great if it added more functionality to the radio like more preset stations
I purchased this product for my Wife on our 46th Anniversary. She purchased a new car recently and loved the Serious radio. So I thought a home SeriousXM may bring her pleasure. I was right.
Pros: Easy to use and I can attach her CD player to the unit.
Cons: I had a little trouble attaching the Docking station seating platform. After a hour or so of seeing the message (Antenna cable no connect or damaged I finally realized I did not push the platform down hard enough.
no other portsble radio offers so much- great sound, portability, no commercials
Pros: inside or outside
Fantastic system that can be used anywhere with it's great sounds.
very pleased with the quality, cranked it in the garage and still here it out in the yard
Pros: easy set up
This is a great device with clear tone and loudnes
Pros: Portable, easy to use and great for traveling
Great speaker dock for Sirius Radio. Crutchfield was easy and pleasant to deal with. Arrived ahead of schedule. Would definitely order again. Seamless.
Great product. With a 10 minute phone call to the folks at SirusXM the unit was up and running. Sound is great. Remote works well. My husband loves having this in the garage to listen to while working on his projects
Pros: Great sound, easy to set up and use
Cons: Radio head moves around when pushing the buttons. Needs more support where radio head connects in.
I want to be a happy camper, but since I can not get the system to work after many hours with your tech people and Sirius tech people with only 4 hours of play time. I am ready to send it back. I am going to try a friend to to see if he can help.
Cons: I can not get the antenna to function. So I missed all the Christmas music.
Portable, Great Audio, and volume
You will not go wrong with this unit.
Got unit in 3 days, within 5 min of opening box was listening to "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC. Have had Sirius units in my vehicles since day one. Now I us my vehicle unit at our condo at the river, at home, in my truck, and now out on the patio. Just about to try my old spare antennae to see if they work on new unit. Another plus, the old remote from the car unit Works with the boom box!!!
Pros: Fast set up, nice size
Cons: Need on board storage for AC adapter and remote.
Portable Satellite Radio Speaker: The SiriusXM SXSD2 Portable Speaker Dock lets you enjoy satellite radio entertainment in your home, office, or other location. A concealed fold-up handle lets you take it on the go. Requires a compatible Satellite Radio tuner with an active SiriusXM, XM, or Sirius subscription.
Note: Even though the SXSD2 is portable, it is not weather or water resistant and should not be left outdoors in the rain or exposed to any water spray.
Compatibility: The SXSD2 portable speaker dock is compatible with the following SiriusXM, XM, and Sirius Satellite Radio dock & play tuners.
Note: Two adapters are included to fit your plug & play tuner - Adapter 1 (SiriusXM and XM radios) and Adapter 2 (Sirius radios).
2.1Ch Speaker Design: Enjoy full-range sound provided by a 2.1ch speaker system with two tweeters, two midrange drivers, and a down-firing subwoofer. The drivers are powered by a 5W x 3Ch amplifier. The system has a frequency response of 60Hz-20khz.
Indoor/Outdoor Antenna: The SiriusXM SXSD2 Portable Speaker Dock includes and indoor/outdoor antenna with a 21' cable.
Note: Once you have chosen a location for the antenna, wrap the excess antenna cable around the storage area at the rear, and plug the antenna cable into the antenna connector at the rear of the Portable Speaker Dock.

Auto Turn-On: Your satellite radio plug & play tuner remembers whether
it was on or off when power to the device is turned off at the time the Portable
Speaker Dock is turned off. Therefore, if your tuner was on at the time you
turned the Portable Speaker Dock off, when
you turn the Portable Speaker Dock back on, the Radio will turn on also. If the tuner was off at the time you turned off the Portable Speaker Dock, you'll need to turn the Radio on also when you turn on the Portable Speaker Dock.

SiriusXM took away the original broadcasting ability for the home setup. Can only be to force more hardware purchases. They've made us slaves to the hard wired antenna. Very uncool. [ Burr Jul 13, 2017 ]

Because it was the only XM portable speaker (boombox). However, received it and it is simply FABULOUS! Cannot say enough about the quality of the sound coming out of this boombox. It was a very pleasant surprise and certainly worth the money. [ MARGERY Dec 07, 2015 ]
It doesn't appear that it was originally intended for use in a car. However, it may be able to be used in a car. It's purpose it to make the SiriusXM Radio portable. It does not have a USB port. It does have an AUX input to connect an external device such as an iPod, MP3 player, etc. to play through the speakers. It operates on the included AC adapter or on 8 D size batteries so it could operate in a car. Since the radio requires an antenna, the Dock comes with one and the instructions say to try using it with the antenna in the storage compartment of the speaker dock. However, the Dock would need to be placed so that nothing interferes with the signal to the antenna. [ Ronald Jul 08, 2018 ]
I would say it is not for in-car use and there is no USB plug in. You could use it in car but I can't imagine why you would unless your car had no radio. [ JWH Jul 05, 2018 ]
Dock is for home use. [ JOHN A Jul 04, 2018 ]
It comes with 2 adaptor plates. The User Guide only lists compatibility with the following Dock & Play radios: Adapter 1 is for the following: SiriusXM Dock & Play Radios: Onyx Plus and Edge XM Dock & Play Radios: Onyx, Onyx EZ, XpressRCi, XpressRC, XpressR, XpressEZ, and Express Adapter 2 is for the following Sirius Dock & Play Radios: Sportster 5, Starmate 8,5,4,3, Stratus 7,6,5,4 and Stratus. Yes! She won't ever leave home (s) without it. [ John Sep 12, 2017 ]
This is the size of a boombox, so I would not call it terribly portable. Moreover, the antenna always has to be positioned to see the sky. So not only would she have to move the boombox, she would also have to string the antenna to a window. She is probably better downloading the Sirius app and listening through a phone. [ Cathleen Sep 12, 2017 ]
Probably it will not, unless you can buy an extended antena wire that will allow to run antena unit to a south window or an outside area. [ MARK E May 13, 2016 ]
In the absence of south facing windows, I believe that you would need to run an antenna wire to the exterior of your home in order to access a satellite signal. This boom box functions very well but it does require means to acquire a signal. [ RODOLFO Apr 28, 2016 ]
Ronald, I have a portable speaker dock and have issues when I'm unable to point antenna to direct sky I've found myself actually running antenna outside of window stapling towards the sky and that was successfully done. I also have sirrius on Internet account which I'm able to listen to with wifi have no issues there plug in to any speaker system with auxiliary or bluetooth doc. [ CYNTHIA Apr 27, 2016 ]
I don't think so unless you can get the antenna outside so it can face the southeast sky to pick up the satelitte. [ JoAnn Apr 27, 2016 ]
I have several satellite radios & they work best with the antenna facing generally south. This unit has a long cable on a detachable antenna, but there is a very long extension cable available. [ John Apr 26, 2016 ]
the unit comes with a detachable antenna with about 10' of lead. You can receive broadcasts only if the city/area in which you live has terrestrial Sirius broadcast in addition to satellite which you can verify through the menu of the portable Sirius dock and play radio or looking up the broadcast area online with Sirius - but terrestrial can be spotty depending upon the time of day, weather, if you're located behind hills, or large buildings, etc. For my garage with no South facing windows, I installed an external antenna (weather / water resistant). It came with a 10' or so lead, so all was needed was 1/4" hole in the ceiling and then through the gable end of the building, mounting, and then sealing up. I had good terrestrial broadcast signal strength in my city, but the outdoor antenna greatly improved the overall voice quality via the greater signal strength and eliminated the nagging very brief - but periodic fading the always seemed to occur at the worst possible time of listening. [ Terry Apr 26, 2016 ]
If you can extend antenna out Window face it to the South it will work [ Stephen Apr 26, 2016 ]
I think it comes with its own remote but the model number on the remote I have that is working every thing (volume and stations) is SXDPR1 it may end with and I it hard to see. [ WAYNE H Jan 26, 2016 ]
All I can say is the model # of the one I got with the unit is SXDPR1. [ David Jan 26, 2016 ]
MY SXSD2 came with a SXDPR1 remote which works fine. [ DENNIS Jan 25, 2016 ]
Mine is an XDRC2 works Great!! [ JOHN Jan 25, 2016 ]
This unit actually includes it. It has an AC power adapter with an attached 5 foot DC cord and a 39" AC power cord. Hope that helps. [ Kenny Jan 11, 2016 ] Staff

Sorry, this was a gift to my brother, so I don't know anything about it. [ Guest Mar 03, 2015 ]
I bought it for my mother...she loves it....and as I recall...you can use batteries...but, it is a plug in... It can also be used indoors without an outside antennae... [ Gloria Mar 03, 2015 ]
As long as the receiver part is near a window it works perfectly, we have a large metal building. If we did not have windows it would not have worked. [ JOHN Jan 25, 2016 ]
I've not had much luck picking up signal inside unless I can get the antenna near a window. [ Joseph Sep 08, 2014 ]
