Our take on the MTX Amplified ThunderForms

Crinkled french fries, discarded receipts, old gum wrappers — you probably have everything in the hidden corners of your vehicle except great bass. But with custom ThunderForm enclosures, you can fill the nooks and crannies of your car, truck, or SUV with low tones that stand out.

Crinkled french fries, discarded receipts, old gum wrappers — you probably have everything in the hidden corners of your vehicle except great bass. But with custom ThunderForm enclosures, you can fill the nooks and crannies of your car, truck, or SUV with low tones that stand out.

MTX engineers evaluate the "sonic signatures" of top-selling vehicles so they can design ThunderForms as custom acoustic matches. With "rotational molding," MTX ensures that each ThunderForm fits and blends inconspicuously into your vehicle. They're made of high-density polyethylene resin to curb resonances and deliver bass that's tight, hard-hitting, and way down low. The enclosure is seamless and airtight, with the correct internal volume to yield optimum bass response from the subwoofers.

This molded MTX ThunderForm comes loaded with two premium-quality 10" Terminator subwoofers modified especially for amplified Thunderforms, and powered by a specially-designed 200-watt mono amp. It mounts under the rear jump seat of select 1997-2004 Dodge Dakota Club Cab and Extended Cab pickups, replacing the factory tool tray. The jack must be relocated into the new location molded into the black ThunderForm (color matches the factory tool kit). Hardware is included.

2001 Dodge Dakota
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to express my disappointment with the cable connection kit that came with this MTX sub system. For the amount of money I paid for this, you would think MTX would put just a tad more interest in the quality of this system. The enclosure is custom molded to fit under the rear jump seat yet all the connections are positioned so that the RCA cables won't allow the seat to rest down without smashing the cables which would most certainly end up breaking the connectors molded into the box! and the Ground cable in the electrical wiring harness is only 1.5' long? Lame! Since this is a custom fit system specifically designed for my truck, you would think the manufacturer would have calculated the exact length and design of the cabling for direct fitment? Now I have to order and wait for RCA cables that have a 90 degree connections at one end to properly fit the sub box! REALLY irritating! MTX should re-imburse me for the cost of the RCA cables!!!!! PS: This message is Cc: to MTX because they skimped with regard to the installation kit!!!!! (12' RCA triple shielded w/ right angle) and maybe just an extra foot of ground wire!!!

Pros: Great fitment; easy installation. Saved over $100.00 by purchasing through Crutchfield which just made it worth the money.

Cons: Install hardware package is junk! Ground wire too short. RCA coax cables worthless. even the bolt and washers are cheap (use oem bolts). Still a bit over priced (could and should have stepped up speakers at least 1 level for the price).

Vehicle-Specific Custom Enclosure: This MTX ThunderForm enclosure is specifically designed to fit select 1997-2004 Dodge Dakota Club Cab (extended cab) pickups. Please refer to the Crutchfield Car Selector to confirm fit for your vehicle.

Enclosure: The ThunderForm enclosure is made of molded high-density polyethylene resin, which dampens resonance and is rigid enough to resist flexing. It is an acoustic suspension (sealed) chamber.

Mounting Location: This enclosure is designed and molded to mount under the rear seat; it replaces the factory tool tray. The jack is relocated to a cavity molded into the ThunderForm. Like the factory tool tray, the ThunderForm has a cup holder on each side. Note: The provided dimensions are taken at the widest points of the enclosure. Keep in mind that these enclosures are custom made to fit in this particular vehicle, so the enclosure will fit properly in only one specific location.

10" Terminator Subwoofers: This enclosure comes loaded with two 10" MTX Terminator subwoofers. The woofers have an unusual impedance, specifically designed for the built-in amp, and cannot be replaced with standard MTX models.

Electronic Bass Control (EBC): The EBC is a wired remote and allows you to adjust the bass level from anywhere in the vehicle. Installing the EBC is optional.

Low-pass Crossover: The low-pass crossover point is adjustable from 50 to 150 Hz for a seamless transition between the output of this unit and that of the other speakers in the vehicle.

  • Gain Control: rotary control; set the gain of the amplifier is match the input
  • Crossover Control: rotary control; adjust the crossover from 50 to 150 Hz

Auto Turn-On Feature: When speaker level inputs are used, the system will automatically turn on and off with the radio.
