What a speaker

This Terminator52 5-1/4" component speaker system will take your in-car audio experience to the next level. The separate polypropylene woofer and Mylar tweeter are vast improvements over the standard paper cones used by factory speakers. With the sensitivity of these new materials, you'll gain more focus in the midrange and clearer highs, even from the power of a factory stereo. But if you have an aftermarket stereo or amp, you can listen with confidence since these puppies can handle up to 35 watts RMS. Grilles are included for a custom installation.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Decent budget component speakers, leave a bit to be desired from the low end, but clear sound otherwise. Be aware these do not have crossovers, but tweeters are supposed to have built in filters. 35w rms rating so they aren't built for too much power.

Pros: Cost

Cons: Not much for low end, no external crossovers.

Not bad

I believe the sound quality could be better than I can tune it. I'm deaf in one ear and have trouble with hearing some highs. All and all good replacement speakers for my stockers

Pros: Price

Cons: None

Good budget replacement over stock

Basic budget replacement for some stock speakers. I would give them 3.5 stars, but this is not an option. They have have noticeably less LF output than the stock speakers, but this is also driving them with the stock stereo - they may be better with an aftermarket stereo or external amplifier. The purpose for these was to simply replace the (blown) stock speakers in a commuter car at a budget price, and they did the job well.

Pros: - Good replacement for stock drivers - No external crossover to find a mounting location for - Brackets included for 5x7 mounting holes - Plenty of hardware included (screws, clips, etc) - Rubber surrounds - no foam to rot - "Tighter" LF than stock speakers on stock stereo

Cons: - Tweeters are a little bright - could use a -3 to -5dB pad - Significantly less deep LF output than stock speakers - Tweeter crossover is only a capacitor siliconed to the back of the tweeter - not a "real" component system with full external xover

These speakers looked and sounded great. Shipping was fast and installation was a breeze

Pros: Very very good SQ. I have new speakers all around in my car and i have these set up in the back and I can hear the back speakers more than the front (only if powered by an amp, if not it's the other way around)

Cons: MUST be powered by an amp. I have a Sony Xplod XM-1652z and for a while I didn't have these hooked up to it, just used the amp for my sub and one day I just got around to hooking them up as a stero set up and man do these speakers sound great. For a while you couldn't really hear them when they were playing off the head unit but once you power these baby's up, they sound good. Only thing is if you're looking for a speaker that produces mid bass, don't go for these. Not that much bass.

Product Research

Woofer Cones: The MTX Terminator series speakers feature durable and rigid polypropylene woofer cones. Polypropylene is also resistant to the moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

5x7 Bracket: The included brackets have a tweeter knock-out (approximately 1.69" diameter), so both the woofer and tweeter can be mounted in a 5x7 opening. The brackets will also fit many 6x8 openings, but don't have the 6x8 screw pattern. If mounted in a 6x8 application, a least two new screw holes must be drilled.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters can be flush mounted, angled mounted (semi-flush), or surface mounted using the included hardware. Once flush mounted or surface mounted, the tweeter will pivot approximately 10° in any direction.

Tweeter Dimensions:

Frame Diameter Cutout Diameter Mounting Height Mounting Depth
Flush Mount 1.843" 1.643" 0.220" 0.841"
Angled Mount 2.125" x 1.752" 1" x 1.355" 1.01" 0.35"
Surface Mount 1.888" N/A 0.984" Screw Depth

Crossovers: The high pass crossovers are built into the tweeter frames.

Specification Note: MTX seems to list contradicting power specifications on the box; with the other specifications they list 70 watts peak, but on the front of the box they list 105 watts max power. We've adopted the 70 watt rating simply because it's the more conservative figure.
