What a speaker

These Terminator65 6-1/2" component speakers will take your in-car audio experience to the next level. The durable polypropylene woofer and Mylar tweeter are vast improvements over the standard paper cones used by factory speakers. With the sensitivity of these new materials, you'll gain more focus in the midrange and clearer highs, even from the power of a factory stereo. But if you have an aftermarket stereo or amp, you can listen with confidence since these puppies can handle up to 45 watts RMS. Grilles are included for a custom installation.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These component speakers definitely deliver on the crisp high frequencies with the tweeters mounted up high. The lows as others have mentioned are moderate, but definitely an improvement over the 17 year old stock speakers in my Escort ZX2. Would buy again, but mounting these is best achieved by using self tapping screws to fasten the speaker directly into the factory opening and skipping the door adapter plates that come with speakers. I tried the adapters and the adapters made such a horrible rattle that I pulled the door panel off and remounted the speakers. Sound is excellent, complimented by my Kenwood Excelon KDC-X599 Deck. Not a powerhouse system but has a nice clean sound with decent mid-range bass. Great budget speakers, get them if you want crisper sound in an older car with poor stock speakers.

Pros: Crisp highs and mid-range

Cons: Skip the adapters when mounting these, rattle is horrible.

These are certainly upgrades from factory- deep lows and loud.

Pros: Deep lows, power, built in crossovers, cost

Cons: Midrange sounds muffled

Sound amazing, I would recommend to anyone. Great sound balance between woofer and tweeter. Does have built in cross over in the tweeter so no worries of where to put an extra box.

Pros: No extra crossover box to hide anywhere

Cons: No tune ability for crossover

The highs and mids are great, but the bass leaves a lot to be desired. If you're looking for an inexpensive solution these are good, but spend the extra money on some with more kick.

Pros: Easy install decent sound

Cons: Low bass quality

These are fantastic speakers. the sound right away is better that the stock components that came with the car. Good lows.. Good punch.. Mids and Highs to boot. Very Balanced sound. Add to that they are super easy to install. MTX ships with them a metal adapter plate. Screw that into the old mount and then the speaker into the new plate. Peace of cake.

Pros: Easy to Install Good Lows (w/punch) Good Highs Good mids

Cons: none so far

Greatly dissapointed

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought a set of these for the Front doors of my Silverado. I bought a set of JBL 2 ways for the rear doors . I sized the amplifier to match. Long story short the MTX speakers could not handle the Fosgate Prime R300X4. The installer had to turn the gain down to 20%. I don't know if the terminators sound that bad or if the JBLs are just that much better. If you buy these don't buy an amplifier or you will blow these puppies. The truth is if your factory speakers aren't blown these speakers are a downgrade.

Pros: They are Cheap.

Cons: Poor sound and poor power handling.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These may be the best speakers I've ever bought. Had kickers in before wasn't happy with the bass sound put these in 100% better. Highs are crisp and clear, great bass and mid tones. Just simply put, these speakers are awesome. Only complaint was the brackets that were sent to me had to be heavily modified to get these in.

Pros: Everything about these speakers are great.

Cons: Wish they were easier to mount specially the tweeters .

What a difference

2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 2 sets of these for my 2016 Wrangler Unlimited. The improvement over stock is immediately apparent , especially since the Jeep comes with cheap plastic and paper junk speakers that look like they came out of Fischer Price radio. Unfortunately , the speakers now are way too good for the stock underpowered head unit. So...looks like I'll be shopping head units now as well. I've been using Crutchfield for many , many years and always reccomend them to anyone shopping electronics. They actually sent me too much accessory equipment for this install as adapter rings are not needed for the front woofers , just for the overhead sound-bar. Also, mounting the upper dash tweeters requires some "Macgyver-ing" . I ended up gutting the stock "tweeter" and hot gluing the new one inside the old speaker frame , it's much smaller and fit right in. Overall , the MTX's are a good value and huge improvement over anything that came from the factory. The crisper highs and tighter bass help cut through the road/ wind noise inherent in a Jeep Wrangler..

Pros: Huge improvement over stock, good price point for components

Cons: Nothing yet

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had to go and replace my old speakers they were just worn out and I decided to match my front speakers with my subwoofer which is a M*TX so it made my decision very easy to go with the MTX speakers. As these are component speakers and I was replacing a 6-inch round 3 Way speaker I did have to drill another hole into my door panel which was a piece of cake and can I say these speakers sound great now mind you it does come with the 1-inch tweeter and 6 inch wolffer which I put a bass Blocker on it at 150 Hertz and these things sound outstanding very happy

Pros: The pros on these speakers are they sound great

Cons: They don't come with speaker wire to run them to the radio so be prepared

I only used the bass speakers to replace rear door OEM. Sound is exactlt what I was looking for. A little fabrication required but overall a major upgrade that nicely complimented the 6 other MTX 2 and 3 way speakers I installed. Will install the tweeters in my kid's car.

Pros: Nice bass speakers, good value.

Cons: None yet

2004 Nissan Pathfinder SE
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in my rear doors of my 2004 Nissan Pathfinder. I bought these for the the price & the fact that they didn't have external crossovers, since I have installed components in all of my vehicles, I wanted to give these a try. I was replacing a pair of blown Sony's that I bought from Crutchfield over 20 years ago. I must say they sound really good considering the price, they really compliment the system that I have in the truck. The whole system is Sony, 2-10" subs, Sony components in the front, Sony DVD deck, & a Sony mono amp to run the subs. The bass that comes out of these is really nice. I flush mounted the trweeters in the door panels, the only thing that I didn't like was that the flush mounts are 2 pieces which tend to come apart when you try to tighten them, which was very frustrating. I hope they don't pop out when I'm driving, just have to wait and see. Other than that, they are a very nice set of speakers which you can't beat for the price.

Pros: Price Sound No crossovers Easy installarion

Cons: Flush mount tweeter brackets

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wasn't expecting the bass response we got with these speakers. It's not deep bass because face it, it's only a 6.5 inch cone, but it's very punchy in the mid bass range. We used kickers in the last car we did and these have a better sound in every category. These are being powered off the head unit only.

Pros: Great mid bass and clear crisp highs. Crossover is set just right.

Cons: The brackets weren't in the box so we had to fab them. Not MTX's fault. Crutchfield remedied the issue quickly and sent the brackets right away.

Great product

We needed new car speakers, but I was uncertain what to buy. These speakers met our needs perfectly for a low price. Much better than the "High End" speakers from the local big discount retail store for much less money. Sound quality is excellent and installation was easy.

Pros: Easy install, great sound.

Cons: I have hearing loss from military service so I can't fully appreciate the sound quality of these speakers.

Product Research

Woofer Cones: The MTX Terminator series speakers feature durable and rigid polypropylene woofer cones. Polypropylene is also resistant to the moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Woofer Mounting: MTX calls the Terminator65 woofers 6-1/2. They fit into standard 6-3/4 and 6-1/2 openings, but the bolt pattern is 6-3/4. In most 6-1/2 applications, new screw holes must be drilled.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters can be flush mounted, angled mounted (semi-flush), or surface mounted using the included hardware. Once flush mounted or surface mounted, the tweeter will pivot approximately 10° in any direction.

Tweeter Dimensions:

 Frame DiameterCutout DiameterMounting HeightMounting Depth
Flush Mount1.843"1.643"0.220"0.841"
Angled Mount2.125" x 1.752"1" x 1.355"1.01"0.35"
Surface Mount1.888"N/A0.984"Screw Depth

Crossovers: The high pass crossovers are built into the tweeter frames.

Specification Note: MTX seems to list contradicting power specifications on the box; with the other specifications they list 90 watts peak, but on the front of the box they list 135 watts max power. We've adopted the 90 watt rating simply because it's the more conservative figure.

At Crutchfield, you'll get detailed, accurate information that's hard to find elsewhere. That's because we have our own in-house Product Research team. They verify what’s in the box, check the owner's manual, and record dimensions, features and specs. We stay on top of new products and technologies to help people make informed choices.
