Great speakers !!! Sound is much better than factory speakers. Tweeters hit very clear and it can put out decent bass past 3 in my 1-10 setting which my factory speakers got blown doing so.

Pros: Premo sound.. Very clear sound at high volume.

Cons: Pain in the but to install on my Volvo. No Crutchfield directions or harness available. I had to figure the install myself with new drill holes to fit the brackets supplied and bought foam tape which I recommend to even out the uneven surface and stop vibration, then solder the wires. My tweeter wires run parallel with the woofer on different lines so wiring was a little confusing wiring tweeter and woofer positive and negative to the new mtx positive / negative. So splice 2 wires to 1

While still using the stock head unit, these speakers sound so much better than the factory ones our 2009 Toyota Corolla came with. They are absolutely worth the price.

Pros: Better sounds quality than stock. Not expensive

Cons: nothing I can think of.

Easy install, great sound for the value.

Debated between 4 & 5 stars went with five when I took into account all the goodies Crutchfield throws in. Definitely sound better than the factor speakers and at a great price, couldn't beat it. Installed in no time thanks to the mounting hardware and wiring harness included.

Pros: Price, sounds for money, accessories.

Cons: No mounting bracket/harness for the tweeter.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I finally got my car to put these speakers in, and only replaced the front door speakers. These are a much better upgrade. The sound is sharp, and smooth. Comparing these to the factory speakers i have to say that this purchase was worth every cent. I have absolutely no skill with car audio, and thanks to the diagrams and free harness' that i recieved from crutchfield, installation only took an hour and a half which i would say is fast for having no experience. I would highly recommend these speakers to anyone who wants better sound for a low price.

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: Way too easy to install lol

These speakers are AMAZING FOR THE PRICE. I replaced my stock infinities that were busted with these guys. The efficiency isn't there, but it's cleaner. I knew efficiency wouldn't be there because I ran them at a higher ohm. Highly recommended.

Pros: Clean, tight bass

Cons: Not a high ceiling for power

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the set of these to replace my front door speakers in my Dodge Ram. The stock speakers started crackling so was looking for a good replacement. These speakers are good....I won't say great. Like other reviews state...if you are looking for bass, these aren't the speakers for you. However these speakers do make great mid's! They are very crisp and clear...and have great sound. I did not utilize the tweeters that come with this i can not give a review on them. Installation was very simple and was happy with the sound. If you are looking for a good mid-range speaker...i suggest you choose these.

Pros: Easy Install, Great construction, Crisp and Clear sound, Can handle high volume.

Cons: Not a Bass Speaker

Very good looking and good sound. Replaced stock (base) speakers in front doors on 2014 Jeep Patriot. 100% improvement over stock.

Pros: Crutchfield supplied needed brackets and harnesses. No need to cut/splice factory wiring.

Cons: Did not come with wire to reach remote-mounted tweeters. Would have been nice if they included about six feet of wire.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced my stock front speakers in my '05 Tundra because the stock speakers sounded real bad after replacing my stock radio. The speakers mounted in the same place as the stock ones did with the screw holes being just a tad off. But I just made new screw holes The tweeters mounted perfectly but I am not too impressed with the sound they create. Also most reviews say these component speakers lack base. I have a powered sub, so base is no problem. But the high notes seem to be missing. It could be my set-up. But there seems to be a lack of treble.

Pros: Inexpensive, don't distort at high volume., Easy install.

Cons: Screw holes are a little off. Lack of treble

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Original equipment door speakers in my Subaru Outback were toast so I bought these to mount in the rear doors. My plan was to toss the tweeters in the trash but tested the factory wiring in the front doors and found the harness was actually connected even though the speakers were not part of the trim package. I drilled the triangular rear view mirror panels to accept the surface mount angled cups and Taa Daaa... door tweeters! HUGE improvement in highs and the rear door speakers are sounding better than original equipment. The included install kit made the addition simple.

Pros: sound quality kills the factory junk. Love the bonus tweeters I had not planned on.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these for my 2002 Honda Civic EX coupe as the stock speakers were getting a little distorted. I installed these with relatively no problem using a bracket adapter that Crutchfield included for free. I had to mod the stock tweeter housing for the new tweeters to fit, also no big deal. So I just used the equalizer on my aftermarket stereo to create the best sound setup and boom--I got nice, clean, crisp sound with a good amount of bass. I can crank these up pretty good until they get distorted. But I think this was a good buy, I'm happy. I listen to a little of everything, mostly rap / hip-hop and rock music and everything sounds great, definitely better than stock.

Pros: -Good Bass -Clear, Crisp sound -Good-value (Speakers+Tweeters)

Cons: None.

Very happy with this purchase, I usually have brand loyalty to Kenwood and Rockford Fosgate, but stepped outta my comfort zone buying these MTX speakers. I've gotta say, with the price, power handling, and overall sound you can't find a better speaker. Installed in a 2002 Saturn L200, night and day difference from the stock speakers.

Pros: Wattage, sounds quality, price

Cons: tweeter's are very bright, but I was able to compensate my EQ to counteract it.

replaced stock component speakers in '12 Evo GSR. No fitment issues, tweeter was a little underwhelming when unboxing. about the size of a shredded mini-wheat. Running off a Pioneer HU so I can't speak to it's full potential. Highs are very tinny sounding and no real bass response.

Pros: cheap, great fit, built in crossover for simple install

Cons: entry level, sounds like entry level, lol.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound for the price. The sound was a little tin like until I adjustedthe equalizer. All they needed was a drop on the high end. They went into a 2000 VWJetta. I use them to mostly listen to rock, metal, thrash, and classic rock. The tweeters fit into the stock location with little modifacation.

Pros: Great sound for the price. Vocals are much clearer over the two-ways I had in there. The clash of cymbals is much more pronounced.

Cons: The grills they come with don't provide much protetection from children with poky fingers. The clips that they come with are large and stick way out past the speaker making for a not very clean installation. Since my car is a beat up pos it doesn't bother me but if you have a nice car you may have to mod these.

NOT a good factory replacement

Mark from Rochester, NY on 10/28/2013

These may be decent speakers when driven by a powerful amp or when used in conjunction with a sub, but in my application ('02 Silverado) they actually sound a bit worse than the factory speakers. Let me qualify that... They have less bass and less volume than the factory speakers. They have adequate mids and highs, but the low end is very weak and the efficiency seems poor at normal volumes. Maybe they shine when they are pushed hard, but I spend my time driving to work, not hanging out in the parking lot with my door open. I'm pretty baffled by all of these positive reviews. And no, I'm not a chronic whiner or a moron who can't swap out a set of speakers. Be warned, these are NOT good factory replacements for a stock system.

Pros: nobody got hurt.

Cons: weak bass, low efficiency (despite claims to the contrary).

Great Factory Replacement Component Set

dBlakey from Russell Springs, KY on 9/9/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Hard to beat this price for a name brand component set. They make a great upgrade from the factory radio that has a tweeter and speaker setup. Like most other component sets I have experienced they seem to have a little less bass response compared to the factory full range speakers. The midrange and highs seem to be more crisp. Obviously like most other speakers in this category; they are made in China. Doing a lot of work with the Chinese market in my job, there could be some quality related issues. The set that I purchased worked flawless.

Pros: Cheaper than most other component sets and these are a name brand. I like the fact the tweeters have the crossover built in; no external crossover. They have a nice appearance, better than expected for the price.

Cons: The bass response lacks a little; but overall would purchase again.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These sound great, I had factory tweeters already, so these made more sense to use than a 2-way or 3-way speaker would have. The tweeters required a little creative mounting to fit int he factory position, but that wasn't a big deal and was expected. The sound on these is great, a perfect replacement for my factory speakers with much better sound. The tweeters have built-in crossovers, so no separate crossover to mount, and no need to get filters for the speaker wiring.

Pros: sound great, excellent speaker set for the money, tweeters have built in crossovers

These aren't overwhelming with bass, but it's fine. The big thing is the tweeters. They make highs and midrange so bright and clear getting it up out of the footwell. For the price of a normal set of coax speakers.

First off... these are inexpensive - don't expect the world with this pair. But, for the cost, they sound great! I have an old beater truck I drive to work with an old JVC cd player that came with it. I wasn't expecting it for the price, but they work great with it. Very clear and enough bass from a component as you'd expect without a sub or amps. I'm thinking a set of baffles would do them good, but I have yet to get any. I'd recommend them to anyone who doesn't want to spend a lot, but would like loud and clear sound for speakers ran off a deck. If you expect top quality / passive crossovers / wire / etc., skip over these and pony up some more dough and don't forget separate amps.

Pros: Cheap, Clear, Decent quality, Solid, Screws, Three different tweeter mounts - flush mount, surface mount, and angle mount

Cons: Little documentation, 90 day gotcha warranty if not installed by "pro", no wires

I like the crisp sound with the stock head unit in my 4 door Silverado. The play the full range of sound they are rated for. Waiting for my Alpine amp to install with my Alpine head unit and I believe these babies will come alive. I have them in all four doors and they will vibrate the seat with stock power. They will not Thump like a sub woofer, but that is not what they are intended for. Excellent product :-)

Pros: Easy to install, great sound with stock power, look good.

Cons: Wish it had a separate cross over versus the Capacitor on the tweeter.

These were some of the cheapest priced separates on the site. I was being selfish, they were for my wife's car which came originally with a separate tweeter. I replaced the door speakers with the larger midranges and listened. I immediately could hear a better rich bass sound and more clarity than ever before. I then replaced the tweeters in the pillars. WOW! I now find myself taking my wife's car out instead of my own. These sound fantastic, were super easy to install, and really sound much better than you would expect from the price. BUY THESE, you will not be disappointed.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted something inexpensive to replace the 20 year old stock speakers in my 93 grand cherokee. After looking around for about a MONTH, I found these. I already have 2 MTX subs in my car, so I figured that I couldn't go wrong. These took about 3 hours to install only because I had to run the wires back threw my door boot. If you have the same car as me (93 Jeep Grand Cherokee), then the best place I found for the tweeters was on the dash, in the font metal grills. Sound wise these are amazing!!! I listen to ALL types of music and almost all sounds perfect. The only issue I found was with some electronic music (i.e. dubstep), which can get a little high pitched with the tweeters. I can't comment on bass because, like a said, I have subs. Overall, these are great and I would recommend them to any one.

Pros: Highs. How easily it was installed

Cons: None at the moment!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed these on the weekend in my 2001 accord. Pretty good speakers for the price. The bass isn't too great, but i'm not too worried because I'm getting a sub later one. However, I had to drill holes in my front doors to mount the speakers because they did not fit in the factory ones. Not much of a con, but I also had to drill holes in the 6x9 mounts that I got. Mounted the tweeters on my doors and so far I like the speakers. Can't wait for the subwoofer though.

Pros: Great product for the price

Cons: Had to drill holes in door and speaker mount that was provided.

2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these for my 04 Trailblazer EXT because my rear speakers were blown. Figured I would replace my front door speakers while I was at it. Installation was easy for the woofers, only had to cut off two small tabs on the speaker brackets on each door for a perfect fit. For the tweeters I decided to surface mount the rear doors and angle mount the front doors (surface mount is also an option). This required cutting out holes in the door panels (I used my Dremel tool), which was mostly easy. The mounting brackets for the tweeters were kind of flimsy in my opinion (i broke one during installion), but they do the job as long as you don't over tighten them. Wiring up the tweeters also required some soldering so be prepared for that. Overall I am happy with the look and sound quality of the speakers. Definitely hearing things I was missing with my factory speakers. Clarity is very good even turned up all the way. Not much bass to speak of, so if that is part of your MUST have list these won't be for you (I am working on my own custom sub enclosure, so I was't concerned with bass output). These are a great value if you are comfortable with some modifications to your car and just looking for improved sound quality over factory speakers.

Pros: Good value, solid construction, sound quality (mid-high), mounting options

Cons: bass output , tweeter mounting brackets (flimsy)

The angled mount is a semi-surface mount, because most of the housing sits above the mounting surface, but a small portion is counter sunk into the panel. The tweeter can pivot in the flush and surface mount housings.

Tweeter Dimensions:

Frame Width Frame Length Cutout Diameter Mounting Height Mounting Depth
Flush Mount 1.842" 1.842" 1.643" 0.113" 0.91"
Surface Mount 1.892" 1.892" N/A 0.87" 0.54" (Screw Depth)
Angled Mount 1.783" 2.11" 1.4" x 1" 1" 0.764" (Screw Depth)

Crossovers: The tweeter crossover is built into the tweeter casing. The woofer uses its natural mechanical frequency roll off.

Woofer Mounting: The woofers fit into standard 6-3/4 and 6-1/2 openings, but the bolt pattern is the symmetrical 4-hole 6-3/4. When mounted in a typical 6-1/2 location, new screw holes must be drilled.

Warranty: Although the speaker reviewed and measured (taken from our first shipment) included information indicating a 1 year warranty, MTX recently changed to a 5-Year Prorated Warranty with the following terms:

  • Years 1-2: Products found to be defective in materials or workmanship during the first two years will be, at Mitek's option, repaired or replaced by Mitek at no charge. The warranty period does not renew, but continues on from the original date of purchase.
  • Years 3-5: The purchase price of an item which becomes defective after the first two years and prior to the end of the warranty period will be prorated and credited toward the purchase of a new MTX product. The amount of proration is determined by dividing the original purchase price by the number of months in the warranty period (60), then multiplying the result by the number of months remaining in the warranty period.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Most vehicle installations these days don't use the new speaker grilles but do use the factory vehicle grilles. What vehicle do you have? We can check it out for you and let you know if you would even have to use the MTX grilles! Contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss further. [ Krissy  Apr 29, 2014 ]  Staff
