Our take on the XTC 6-1/2" Speaker Baffles

Waterproof foam baffles from XTC fit behind speakers to keep them clean and dry. They compress easily to fit the installation, and form a mounting seal that can reduce panel vibration. Use these speaker baffles along with a Dynamat kit when you install your new speakers, and you'll enjoy improved sound and performance.

These baffles will protect your speakers. In many applications we recommend that you cut a hole in the bottom of the baffle, or remove the entire bottom of the baffle, to maintain good bass response while still protecting your speaker from dirt and water damage. Call one of our Advisors if you have questions — they'll be happy to share their expertise with you.

Product Research

Product Overview: These acoustic baffles are designed to be placed behind car speakers to protect the speaker from moisture and dirt which can damage speaker components. Along with providing a sealed chamber, they also form a mounting seal between the speaker and the mounting surface to eliminate panel to frame resonance. Baffles will improve door acoustics by reducing road noise and vibrations transferred to the back of the speaker cone. The baffles are pliable and can be compressed to fit most applications.

I was concerned my current speakers may have stopped working because of contact with water inside the door. I get a rust inhibitor sprayed inside the doors, as well as other areas so that is a possibility for the damage. I won't know until I open it up. Based on others' reviews and base on some of crutchfield's articles, I decided to take the plunge on this item. I hope to use them as vibration dampers between the metal speaker frame and the metal door skin. I am yet to do the install, so I hope they do the job. I read that they can also muffle the sound, so I may have to cut/fashion them to get some good sound from the speakers. [ tc  Jul 06, 2016 ]

Used with speakers installed in doors on 2002 GM Full size Pickup regular cab. I originally left the baffles intact (except for wire hole), however I found that the baffles muffled the bass. A few months later, I cut the back out of the baffles to allow the bass to resonate in the door cavity. [ Gary  Jun 17, 2016 ]
i am unsure if you will need to cut them or not. Your best option is to talk to a crutchfield advisor, because when i bought mine i had to cut-to-fit some... wish i wouldn't have tho. [ MICHAEL  Aug 04, 2014 ]
As long as your magnet structure is less than the 6 1/2 " speaker housing, which I'm sure it is, these will fit diameter wise. Depth is easy, just measure from the speaker housing mounting plate to the rear most edge of the magnet, if it is 3 3/4" or less they will fit. [ MATT  Aug 01, 2014 ]
Hello i had the image dynamics ctx 65 components and the magnet was bottle necked in them and i had to cut mine so it didnt seal the rear of the speaker off and kill all midbass hope this helps [ JONATHAN D  Aug 01, 2014 ]
For details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle. [ Krissy  Oct 12, 2014 ]  Staff
