Waterproof foam baffles from XTC fit behind speakers to keep them clean and dry. They compress easily to fit the installation, and form a mounting seal that can reduce panel vibration. Use these speaker baffles along with a Dynamat kit when you install your new speakers, and you'll enjoy improved sound and performance.
These baffles will protect your speakers. In many applications we recommend that you cut a hole in the bottom of the baffle, or remove the entire bottom of the baffle, to maintain good bass response while still protecting your speaker from dirt and water damage. Call one of our Advisors if you have questions — they'll be happy to share their expertise with you.
Average Customer Review(s):
Pros: Fit as suggested by advisor.
Well worth the money on these. They really help to make the car sound better.
Helped with my install as I had a skosh more room to take up between the speaker and the rear deck. This may not have been what they were originally designed for, but they worked great for me.
Pros: Easy to use.
Cons: Easy to use.
Rattled from bass. Just thru them away. Sounded better without them. Mounted on rear deck of Toyota.
I like these XTC 6" x9" Speaker Baffles. I just dropped them in behind the speaker Brackets and that was it. I would definitely buy speaker baffles again. Makes a big difference.
They work great . i installed in my son car to block sound the from Sud woofer in car trunk.
Cons: They work great.
great investment for little cost. great for protecting your investment especially in older vehicles where inside doors and other compartments that are prone to dust and moisture. a little trimming and BAM, PERFECT FIT.
This is a good product and well constructed. You have to modify it to fit your vehicle but that should be known. It helped the sound quality but at high volumes it would start to rattle/vibrate.
Pros: nice construction, easy to fit
Cons: can't handle high volume levels.
Purchased these to protect the Polk speakers I purchased at the same time. No instructions for how to install with the speaker. Hopefully I got it right. Speaker is a snug fit in the opening with this behind it. Time will tell if it keeps the elements out of the back of the speaker.
Pros: Good idea to protect speakers from the elements. Dust especially, in this area.
Cons: A little instruction would be a plus.
I installed these baffles in the rear deck of my car when I was installing new speakers in my doors and rear deck. I didn't realize it while driving but my passengers couldn't hear a thing while sitting in the back! I ended up having to fade a decent amount to the front because the baffles were enhancing the sound so much since I didn't use them in my doors.
Pros: Reduces sound and bass loss greatly! Easy to install, flexible, and easily can poke holes through it.
Cons: None, they work as advertised.
This thing does not work on Dodge RAM trucks! Internal window mechanism just tears it apart. Don't waste your money.
Cons: Had to reinstall speaker and door trim twice.
Purchase for a weather protection location. Was pleasantly surprised with the sound enhancement too! I should have purchased these a long time ago.
Pros: Fit and function
Recommended by an online sales advisor when I ordered some 6x9 door speakers. They were way to big to fit into my doors. After doing a little testing, I decided they didn't do much, if any, to enhance the sound so I didn't bother to try to modify them to fit. Just left them in the box and moved on with my install.
Pros: I only wasted my money.
Cons: I wasted my money. They didn't fit in the doors of my 2010 Highlander. From what I could tell without fully installing them, they didn't do anything to enhance the sound of my new speakers.
A real nice finishing touch to mounting a speaker in your vehicle. Provides a nice gasket/insulation layer between speaker and the metal. I like the added protection to the speaker from potential trunk load pummeling. Durable foam was the perfect size for easy installation. Not sure if there is any sound benefits, as I installed the new speakers with the baffles.
Fits and works perfectly. Even improved sound in my truck when protection from the elements is all I was after
The speaker baffles are a great way to get some extra protection for your speakers. The cost is minimal for the extra protection. They were easy to install.
Pros: Easy to install and the price.
I replaced my speakers in my 2008 Jeep Rubicon. It made little difference then I packed the speaker boxes with fiber fill and installed these speaker baffles. Now you can hear the speakers clearly. This is a very cheap upgrade!
Pros: It works
Cons: Wish I did it 10 years ago
I installed these to prevent any buzz or electrical issues on a set of rear deck speakers on my classic car. They work. What else can you say
Pros: Decent quality
Pros: Rear deck application. worked great
Great did the job improves sound a great deal a must when installing a sound system or just speaker up grade
Pros: Protects speaker from weather and insulate sound from escaping into doors or trunk and tighter base
Cons: Some modifications where required it will depend on application but very easy to adapt since their made from foam
Does the job but they could have included a few simple features that would make installation easier and also increased performance.
Pros: Light weight, flexible, economical
Cons: Thin material reduces bass performance, No self-adhesive backing to ease installation
It was exacltly what I needed to complete my speaker installation
Pros: perfect fit
I was installing rear-deck speakers into a 2005 Toyota Corolla. Unfortunately, Crutchfield did not offer an adapter with the speakers so I used this baffle as such. Securing the baffle to the read deck using the bolts which fastened the old speakers down, then securing the new speakers to the baffle was simple. There is no rattling with this setup and it worked well.
Pros: Great for using as an adapter
Cons: Rather large
Just perfect for my use
Pros: easy to install
Fits great and easy to cut for forming and wire placement.
Pros: They work great & protects the 6x9 Infinity Kappa great
So far they sound great with the acoustics and make them sound better even though I am not using them with my speaker and bass. I like them.
Cons: were hard to get them in as they were going into my rear deck, but it worked out perfect
I am very happy with the baffles so far. I used them on my boat in the inboard/outboard engine compartment because I installed a pair of 6x9 speakers there and I was concerned about engine heat, noise, dust, moisture etc. At first they didn't sound great so I cut the hole in the bottom as per instructed by Crutchfield's expert team and they sound great and they show no signs of degradation from temperature.
Pros: Easy to install and cut to size. Great product for maintaining the integrity and cleanliness of my speakers.
Made the speakers sound even better.
Pros: Waterproof, and insulating.
This is the second time purchasing this product. And I'm very satisfied !
Pros: Sound Quality, Easy to Install !
good product increases sound quality an performance of the speakers and lenghtens the life
Pros: easy to install
I bought these hoping that they would help dampen the rattle that my 91 Chevy Cavalier has developed due to dirt roads and me listening to my music a little too loud, and it defiantly helped a little but I'm hoping that these will help keep dirt out of my speakers and so far they have.
Pros: so far their doing as described, helped a little with rattle (for the brackets for my 91 Cavalier)
Cons: YOU NEED TO DO YOUR RESEARCH, read up on it before you buy and send it back saying it didnt work, a little time consuming to install
Great for protecting speakers from dust and water.
There is no way that these baffles will fit into the door. I was surprised as Crutchfield always sends exact fit components. They were a complete waste of money
Cons: cannot be used, a real shame.Crutchfield response on 6/9/2014 We forwarded this review to our Technical Support team for follow-up. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
Fit perfect. Nice product.
These baffles work great to tighten up the bass and protect the speaker. Just add a little bit of fiber fill before you mount the speaker.
Finally a solution to the problem of water destroying speaker cones in your car's doors. Not to mention the better sound and stronger mid bass from adding a baffle to control the rear wave. Now to find a foam ring to couple the speaker's front output to the door panel so that all the sound is directed into the listening area.
Pros: Easy installation, better sound,no chance of vibration between the speaker and door panel.
Cons: no place for the speaker wires to enter, had to punch a hole through with a knife but I did it on the bottom so water can drain if it were to enter.
These are at best used as a prophylactic against accidental damage, since the internal volume is so small it killed the bass on my rear-deck mounted 6x9's. I could have cut a hole in the bottom to let the woofer move freely, and use the trunk as the cabinet, but believe in using things as-is or not at all. I don't have a sub (yet) so I'm keeping them in case I actually want to protect the woofers from the subsonic pressure of a sub acting upon them from inside my trunk. 40 years ago, Thiel & Small came up with box volume calculations for woofers that are widely used today, and these baffles seem to defy these rules of physics by severely limiting the air volume to the rear of the speakers.
Cons: Design is not ideal for long-throw woofers that are capable of moving lots of air.
you will definitely need these if you have 6x9s in your rear deck and if you have subwoofers in your trunk because not only do they help your speakers sound better they protect them from blowing due to the compression of your trunk closing and your subwoofers pounding
Pros: nice fit and good seal.
These baffles are great. My speakers have more depth and bass from coaxials which were like that prior to the installation. Only issue I ended up with was having too much baffle in the door as I should have chosen the shallow depth as opposed to the normal one I chose. An experience for the next time I purchase these items.
Pros: Better sound and speaker protection while in the door panels
they seem to work fine
Pros: good product
Nice addition for the back of your speakers
We think these baffles work great for keepin moisture off your speakers and they make speakers sound better than they do without them... Some of the reviews say the baffles make speakers sound bad but with this pair and the 2 pair of 5X7" baffles we bought from Crutchfield at the same time make the 5th pair of them we have bought.... We also have 2 pair of the 6.5" round baffles which are behind 2 pair of HiFonics component mids we have.....
You need these- they improve speaker performance and quality.
I installed these in my 2005 Honda Accord with some new Kicker 6x9's. These killed my bass so I tried modifying but cutting out the bottom, then ended up just taking them out and throwing them away. I am actually upset that I was recommended these by my Crutchfield adviser. What a waste of money and time.
Cons: Kills the bass, makes sound hollow and flat, not worth the "protection" they give.
Won't be able to install on doors due to the depth which interfere with windows
Pros: Cost effective
Cons: Unable to use
very easy to work with and help to make speakers sound better.
I figured that since I have subs the baffle might act like a barrier and reduce the ill affect the sound waves from the subs might have on the bass response of my 6x9s. Well, I figured since they were new it just might be an issues of break in. After a couple weeks I could actually notice a slight difference, but still the bass was practically nonexistent. Nearly everyone that bought the Alpine SPR- 69C speakers seemed pleased, so I doubt it's the speaker. I have yet to remove the baffle to see if it actually is the problem, so I can't truly blame the baffles as of now. Nonetheless, it's sad that my Alpine SPR-12C speakers up front have just as much bass as my amped 6x9s.
The 5 inch ones were too deep and got squished amongst the trunk lid hard ware. The end result for me on this install was marginal. I did previously put some in my father in law's car and I heard a cleaner better sound for sure. All though he doesn't like much bass and really likes clean highs.
I put these under my 2 new 6x9 alpines to keep them dry. at first i didnt like them because they distorted the base way to much. then i decided to put dynamat on the inside and out to keep them solid and stop the wierd distortion they added. The speakers hit crazy hard for most bass with this but couldnt hit the lows without ratttling my rear deck. so i then cut and made a makeshift port for both of them. They act like boxes for subs now and the volume difference is insane. The lows flow smoothly and the mid bass hits make my chest thump. all in all its a good product after a little bit of fine tuning
Installed them on my Infinity Kappa 6X9's 693.9i's, which are hanging from the rear deck on the car, extending into the trunk, was hoping for some protection from the subs, they did do that, but they did cut the sound level on the 6X9's and rattled against against the speaker frames. Removed them. They are a good idea, but the rattle against the speaker frames was just too annoying.
I figured they'ed reduce the vibration of the speakers mounted to the rear deck and given I have subs the baffle might act like a barrier and reduce the ill affect the sound waves from the subs might have on the bass response of my 6x9s. I had the Alpines amped at 56RMS to each speaker, so I figured they'd have no problems whatsoever hitting down to a mere 80Hz. Boy was I wrong. The speakers seemed to not hit anything below 200hz. I could set the HPF on my deck at 80Hz or 200Hz without hearing the slightest difference. In fact, I would even wager they weren't hitting anything below 500Hz. Well, I figured since they were new it just might be an issues of break in. After a couple weeks I could actually notice a slight difference between 80Hz and 200Hz, but still the bass was practically nonexistent. I ended up cutting out a 1"x3" slot in the baffle and it actually helped a little, but not nearly as much as I'd hoped. My 15 year old factory 6x9s were easily able to hit lower, they just didn't sound as clear at any frequency. Even now they don't seem to have any bass and they are surely fully broken in by now. Nearly everyone that bought the Alpine SPS-69C2 speakers seemed pleased, so I doubt it's the speaker. I have yet to remove the baffle to see if it actually is the problem, so I can't truly blame the baffles as of now. Nonetheless, it's sad that my Alpine SPS-46C2 speakers up front (being feed 26RMS from my CDA-9833) have just as much bass as my amped 6x9s.
I'm not sure I like these yet. I purchased these for my 6x9 Aplines that are mounted in a partition wall of my Ford Econoline van. The backs of the speakers were open to the cargo area and I felt I needed some speaker protection as well as something to help with the accoustics. I did a complete system install and I have not tried it without them. I think these baffles may be killing some of my sound.
They did make the bass tighter, more clear, thus it distorting easier at lower volume. Does as advertised well thus the 5 star rating. Found I can turn it up a bit more without having them & when it does begin to distort, it's more "spread out", less noticable. Seems to be easier on the speaker without, just in case. Crutchfield refunded me without needing to return due to shipping costs. Great customer service!
Like most people have said, these things killed my bass; they didn't even tighten up the midrange in my case. I took them out and the sound quality improved incredibly. Aside from the sound issues, the baffles kept getting pulled down by the speaker wires and eventually half the baffle would end up hanging down into my trunk. Unless you have a extremely moisture prone area for your speakers, these are not worth the money. Even if you need to moisture protection, I would recommend finding a better location for the speakers, or spending a few extra dollars and get some new weatherstripping, as these don't seal out moisture completly anyways.
Here's my reasoning for rating this slim version so low: The smaller size (with less space between the back of the speaker and back of the baffle) can have some unwanted effects depending on the speaker enclosed and its size. In my case, the cone movement of the speaker would cause the baffle to suck in and rattle against the back of the speaker. I ended up having to cut out the back of the baffle to fix this problem. On a positive note, the general theory behind these seems sound enough. They are of decent quality and would provide adequate protection for speakers (especially those mounted in doors). The seal around the speaker is also pretty good considering the vacuum that was created in my case (resulting in the unfortunate rattle). I've seen first hand what can happen to an unprotected speaker in a car door. For my sound setup in a previous car, one of the door speakers eventually sounded distorted so I pulled off the door panel to take a look. Sure enough, corrosion had built up where the wire connected to the speaker. After a thorough cleaning, the speaker sounded fine again. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend the regular size baffle and not this slim version to avoid the issues I've had, especially for deeper speakers.
Good quality product. If you're using your 6x9s as your main source of low end bass then i would stay away from these. They kill pretty much everything below 70-75hz. However if you're looking for something to tighten up your 80-150hz range then these are the way to go.
These 6x9 baffles are good if you only want to extend the life of your speaker by a little. It protects it from moisture and anything else at the back of the speaker. But thats about it. I thought these baffles would improve bass like the other comments said but they didn't. What it did for my great 6x9 kenwoods was restrict airflow from the back of the speaker. So when the speakers would hit low notes it would suck in the baffles like a paper bag. The 6x9 speakers weren't hitting like I thought they should so I took the baffles off and Vuala! It was like night and day. I rather sacrifice a little moisture gettting to my speakers than some nice bass.
Baffles are probably the smartest thing for your stereo! With the space behind the speaker, (open), it doesnt have anything for the bass to reverb off of. If you put these baffles behind your speakers, it protects them and adds greater handling of bass and noise.
These baffles are great! They protect my speakers from water, from my leaky truck. They sound great and add some nice bass!

Speaker Baffles do 2 things: 1. reduce vibrations from the speaker flange to the car (metal on metal). 2. Improve bass and in my case I also cut out the very back of the baffle to reduce that speaker in a can sound by allowing the woofer air. Than I added insulation around the speaker till I got the sound just right, sort of creating a speaker box. I use these baffles every time I install speakers.[ Gene Jan 02, 2016 ]
