Elegant design and warm, relaxed sound

Pro-ject celebrated their 25th anniversary by introducing a ‘table that combines the best of past and present. The well-named Classic features a solid wood chassis that harkens back to vintage designs from the ‘60s and ‘70s. The modern technology inside reflects Pro-ject's quarter century of intelligent turntable design. This 'table's beautiful looks will enhance any room, as it delivers the special music mojo that makes us cherish records from any era.

Innovative technology produces a Classic sound

For this 25th-anniversary offering, Pro-Ject uses a finely balanced, heavy aluminum platter with a sandwiched layer of Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) around its perimeter — it's a proven method for reducing the resonance that lesser platters can produce. Six TPE balls isolate the wooden chassis from the floating sub-chassis, which helps isolate the platter and tonearm from vibrations of the motor.

The new carbon fiber-clad aluminum tonearm is pre-fitted with an Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge, which uses silver spools in the cartridge body to provide a more precise sound. Music will sound deeper, richer, and more dynamic than ever.

Easy setup

Pro-Ject knows that turntable setup can be a challenge for the novice. That's why this 'table comes out of the box virtually ready to play. Its factory-mounted tonearm and cartridge take the guesswork out of getting started, so you can enjoy optimized sound quality with minimal effort. A few minutes to dial in key settings like tracking force, anti-skating, and platter speed are all that's needed to experience musical revelations waiting for you on your favorite records.

Pro-Ject The Classic

Chris from Clovis, CA on 8/13/2017

For the price this certainly deserves 5 Stars. I upgraded this turntable from a Carbon DC and it is a much more quiet turntable when running. I'm using a Clearaudio Concept MM2 cart and it sounds much better than the stock Ortofon 2M Silver. I'm looking forward to adding an MC cartridge in the near future.

Pros: Great turntable for the price. Very quiet motor.

Cons: Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge that comes with the unit.

My New Heirloom

I am sort of in the same boat as reviewer John from Simi Valley, I like this turntable a lot, it is an upgrade from the Pro Ject DC Carbon Esprit, not a leaps and bounds better, but enough of an improvement to make me very happy. I only have about 10 hours on it, so I am sure it will open up some more as it breaks in. I too opted for a better cartridge the Hana EL and also swapped out the mat with a Funk Firm Achromat. The bass now has a little more giddy up and the midranges are much airer with more space and depth. It took a little getting used to adjusting the VTA, but did not take me long to figure out the quirks. Also enjoy having the adjustable feet. Oh, and it's even more stunning in real life, especially with the the new mat I got in blue. This is a keeper and hope to grow with this TT with upgrades in the future.

Pros: Adjustable feet, VTA, and Azimuth. Great tone arm with medium effective mass leaves it open to other cartridge upgrades, runs quietly with no hum. Looks great with solid build, no cheeps parts.

Cons: Cost, it would be nice if you could get the unit with out the cartridge. Also the mat should be of higher quality. Also the metal platter does attract a lot of static. These are minor, really enjoying this deck.

Love it! It works like a turntable, effortlessly.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off I am very happy with this turntable, I has the look I love and I feel the tech explained shows up in clear crisp reproduction, and it is not even close to being broken in yet. I did not mess with the factory installed cartridge, talked to people, it is entry level and if you are spending this much on a turntable you should already know that you also need to spend almost as much, if not more to really get a high quality cartridge, (I got a Hana SH) and also ordered a lower mass counter weight to get this set up right. Yes so far I think this is a great investment in your musical enjoyment!

Pros: Set up nicely Cool tonearm assembly came with alright cables

Cons: Nothing really, any pain was self inflected, but worth it - Upgrade the cartridge!

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

My Mom threw away my dads old Dual without telling me, bless her soul. I saw this and had to have it. Old school looks meets new tech - this will be an upgrade even though the old one would have lasted a lifetime.[ John  Apr 02, 2017 ]
