Do you have a turntable, but no phono input on your receiver, integrated amp, or shelf system? Or, does your system's built-in phono stage sound flat and lifeless? No problem — just hook up the Pro-Ject Phono Box DC preamplifer in-line between your record player and any of your receiver's line-level inputs, and you're ready to enjoy your LP collection all over again.
Pro-Ject's clean, simple design uses premium quality parts to deliver the warm, relaxed sound that vinyl is famous for. Its compact all-metal body rejects interference to ensure clean sound, and the gold-plated inputs and outputs resist corrosion for the best possible signal transfer.
This preamp is compatible with both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, so you can count on proper matching with virtually any turntable and cartridge combination.
This phono preamp does not come with an RCA cable to connect to your receiver or amp.

Average Customer Review(s):
needed a different pre-amp and again-great advise and fast service. looking forward to some more preview time with this new set up.
Pros: great performance with small foot print
Needed a pre-amp to get the sound out of my turntable. This box is perfect. Easy to set up and works like a charm.
Works well, was easy to install and setup.
Pros: I can play all my old records again.
Great unit at a great price. Can't remember when I last used my Sherwood turntable before purchasing this unit. Super easy to set up. Enjoying the vinyl I haven't listened to in years
Pros: Small, easy to set up, great price
Big thanks to advisor Spencer for recommending this unit. My Denton rec. Had no phono hook up and I had an old but usable turntable and this unit made the connection possible. Now my lp' s are playing again.
Pros: Easy set up
Great little unit. Great price. Compact and super easy set up. My old Kenwood turntable was producing music as soon as installation was complete. Install instructions are clear. No buttons to turn on/off, no buttons or switches at all.
Pros: Price Easy installation Compact Black blends in with other components
Works like it should. Simple to use and excellent quality.
Pros: Works like it should. Simple to use and excellent quality.
Great companion to the Project Debut Carbon turntable.
Seems to be working just fine. I like the fact that this has the ability to switch from MM to MC at any time in case of an upgrade or something. Reasonable price.
Excellent quality sound, easy to hook up.
Pros: Excellent sound at an affordable price!
Great sound,easy installation,no distortion.Fast delivery,very pleased.
Great little preamp! Since I now use a Sonos Connect and B&O active speakers, I have eliminated my integrated amp using this and a $20 switch box. The Sonos box already eliminated my tuner.
Pros: Great price performer. Works with both MM & MC.
Cons: None so far.
I am happy to report that my Pro-Ject Phono Box DC arrived very promptly from Crutchfield and I was able to install it very easily. My Marantz SR 6004 stereo receiver has no phono input jacks and so this Pro-Ject Phono Box absolutely "fills the bill" allowing me to once more access and play my LP record collection, allowing me to hook-up my turntable to my Marantz receiver. I played several records on my turntable, hooked up to the Pro-Ject Phono Box DC, and they sounded terrific through my Marantz and main family speaker system. I'm delighted with this Pro-Ject Phono Box and would recommend it highly to anyone in my similar situation. Also, the moderate price is another big plus. Kudos to Crutchfield for carrying this really fine home audio product.
Pros: Compact size, easy hook-up, great sound from my records, and moderate price.
Cons: None at all!
This unit is very simple to connect. Turntable to preamp, preamp to receiver, plug into AC outlet. Done. They should make everything this simple. Can't compare how well this works as compared with other preamps, but no problems with this one.
Pros: Simple to connect
Cons: An expensive addition if you are buying a new receiver that doesn't have a phono preamp built in.
This provided a great way to add add my '80's Pioneer turntable to my Adcom GFP-750 preamp that lacked a phono preamp. It supports MM and MC cartridges and is small enough to sit on the shelf behind the Adcom.
So far, so good. Easy to hook-up, and it's small enough to hide w/o too much trouble.
Pros: Neat and clean, well made.
Cons: No on/off switch to conserve energy or indicator to let you know when it's powered up. Not a big deal, but add in a house full of low voltage consumers and it becomes an issue over time. Still would have bought it, though.
I purchased this after buying a new AVR that had no phono input stage. The Pro-ject Phono Box allowed me to continue to listen to my vinyl on my Rega turntable and sounds great. Just connected it to an unused analog input on my receiver and it sounds incredible. Highly recommended!
Pros: Ease of use. Price.
Quality little brick of a phono amp. Works great with my vintage Technics by Panasonic 1300 TT.
Pros: No lights, 2 cartridge phase choices.
Cons: None so far.
Basic building brick piece for stereo. Dead quite with a small footprint. Drop dead easy setup. Everything you would think a brand matched power supply should be, which means this is the last time I will ever think about it.
Pros: Small, black
Cons: Does not come with ice maker
The perfect solution to mating an older ProJect analog turntable to a current Pioneer AVR - worked like a charm!
A very easy solution for my problem of hooking up my 1970's audio turntable to my 2012 AV receiver. The Crutchfield people were an amazing resource too!
Pros: Very easy and small convenient size.
Cons: Haven't found any yet.
I bought this item about 2 weeks ago and I hooked it up no problem. The sound quality is excellent from my turntable to my speakers. Highly recommend this product.
Pros: Very easy setup Cost
This product provides the necessary requirements for any turntable . When matched with a recently purchased Pro-Ject Debut Carbon (DC) turntable they make a great pair . Very easy hook up and great sound and clarity.
Pros: Excellent product and a very reliable brand.
Pros: Ease of use
I purchased an Onkyo mini system and asked Crutchfield's advisor Jasan about hooking up my turntable to it. Jasan suggested the Pro-Ject Box and a cable for connection.; Easy hook up and works flawlessly now I can listen to my "records".
Pros: Good product.
Box works exactly as expected. Delivery was right on time and the price was great. The sound of the albums now is excellent.
Pros: small, affordable.
Just what i needed. Had my old turntables and old records and I did not have the time to convert records to CDs. Now I can play my records and enjoy them. Saved me lots of time and money! such a simple device!
Very simple to use, excellent quality
Pros: simple to use
Cons: None found
This is a nice little gadget. It replace a old RCA pre-amp I had. Easy to use and easy to set up. Now I can enjoy my vinyl!
Pros: Easy to set up and use.
Cons: None noticed.
Needed to integrate my old Denon turntable with my new HT system. Works well and looks good. The MM/MC switch is on the back which could be inconvenient in some situations, but isn't too much of an issue with me.
Pros: Works well Looks good
Cons: MM/MC switch are on the back of the unit
This is my first preamp. Seems to work great
Pros: East set up.
Cons: Unclear which mode to be in from documentation.
Great Value Great Price Great Sound for my 40 plus year old Gerrard Lab 80 turntable. Exactly what I needed for my new sound system.
Pros: size, value, application all 5 star
Cons: none so far
matched with the Debut turntable it sounds great.....super flat and sounds great. No complaints
Pros: simple set up
wanted to connect ~20 year old high quality turntable to new receiver without a phono input. Had a moving coil cartridge pick-up. Very easy to set up. Works great. No problems and you won't need the instructions. Volume output of pre-amp/receiver in phono mode matches comparable CD input.
Pros: offers moving coil and moving magnet pickup option. Easy to set up
Because of a move, major remodel and then purchase of my new Denon receiver with no phono input I hadn't listened to my albums for over 3 years. Kyle suggested the Pro-Ject Phono Box DC for the necessary preamplifier. It took minutes to connect and figure out how to operate my turntable with my Harmony One which is a miracle since I am techno-inept. I listened to album after album and was blown away by the sound through my ancient Klipsch Heresy speakers. All of the things vinyl nuts say about the fullness and warmth of sound were so evident I was truly a bit surprised. I never duplicated my albums with my CD collection s so I am having a literal blast (apologies to my townhouse neighbors) getting reacquainted.
Pros: Mindless installation even for techno-inept Clear, full, distortion-free sound from my vinyl
Cons: None I can think of
Easy to install and worked exactly as advertised. Highly recommend.
Phono (MM/MC) Preamp: The Pro-Ject Phono Box allows you to connect a turntable with either a MM (moving magnet) or MC (moving coil) cartridge to today's home receiver's and amplifier which do not offer a dedicated phono input. There is a button on the back of the unit which allows you to switch between MM or MC mode.
Metal Case: The Phono Box's metal case shields the electronics from vibration and electromagnetic interference.
Dual-Mono Circuitry: The Phono Box provides optimal channel separation through dual-mono circuitry and low-noise ICs.
RIAA Equalization: The Pro-Ject Phono Box provides amplification and RIAA equalization for both MM and MC cartridges.
RCA Connections: The Phono Box features gold-plated stereo RCA connections. A stereo RCA input connects your turntable, and a stereo RCA output connects your home receiver or amplifier. RCA cables sold separately.
Ground Terminal: The Phono Box also has a turntable ground, in case your turntable has a separate ground lead. This provides shielding to the tone-arm and the sensitive circuitry in the turntable.
Outboard Power Supply: The Pro-Ject Phono Box operates off of standard household AC current, using the supplied AC power adapter. The external power adapter is separate from the phono preamp to further improve sound quality.

You had the item I wanted at a competitive price + my local audio/TV store could not supply or obtain it; important to me that they recommended you as good to deal with. [ Clive Nov 14, 2017 ]
My Marantz turntable needed a preamp since my new receiver did not have a phono input. This unit had excellent reviews and Crutchfield has a good reputation. [ LARRY Nov 05, 2017 ]
Receiver didn't have a phono input. I have a moving-coil cartridge so I needed a phono amp that can handle moving-coil. [ Debra Oct 14, 2017 ]
I needed a pre-amp to connect to the integrated amp I chose. I chose a Pro-Ject turntable so I chose a Pro-Ject pre-amp. [ Alex Aug 06, 2017 ]
I am resurrecting my Kenwood KD-2055 turntable. I was going to go new but found that I can connect it to my Denon using a preamp. Inexpensive solution. Jenny at Crutchfield was very helpful in guiding me. Thanks. [ Nestor Aug 05, 2017 ]
I still have a turntable. [ Kenneth W. Jul 26, 2017 ]
I have an old Pro-Ject II turntable, and quite a bit of vinyl, but this excellent receiver does not have a phono input, and even if it did, the Phono sections on receivers are usually pretty poor, even on good quality ones. And I have always wanted one to help improve my vinyl experience. [ Jon Jul 21, 2017 ]
Good reviews. Crutchfield reputation. Great Crutchfield assistance with making selection. [ Kent Jul 13, 2017 ]
Larry's recommendation and the reviews. [ JEFFREY P Jun 16, 2017 ]
Need to hook up my old Pioneer PL514 Turntable to a "line only" tube amp, don't wont to spend two much without knowing if my Pioneer turntable is still worth using. Seen a lot of good reviews on this pre amp. [ Terry Apr 27, 2017 ]
I bought this to augment my meager HiFi setup. I have a Pro Ject Carbon Debut DC turntable running directly to an Onkyo TX 8020 amplifier via it;s built in phono input but thought that the sound could be a little fuller, of not just louder. The phono input on the Onkyo is very capable but I think a higher input voltage on one of the line in connections will yield better sound. Plus, I've yet to hear anything other than rave reviews for this pre-amp! [ Travers Mar 25, 2017 ]

Best to make sure my music albums are as clear as they ever were. Will work when i up grade my cartridge on my turntable also. [ MIKE Dec 07, 2016 ]
Price and reviews [ R Nov 27, 2016 ]
I have a Pyle pre-amp currently and it does not produce sufficient volume to be any where near the volume of my other components. I find it irritating when one device has to be turned way up just to hear it and then getting my ears blown out when switching to another device connected to the receiver. [ Clifford Oct 28, 2016 ]
Because Jane recommended it, it got good ratings from other users, and it sounded like what I needed for my turntable. Jane's Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=197 [ Britta Sep 04, 2016 ]

pre amp for project turntable [ Donald`` Dec 16, 2015 ]
Someone told me on the internet that it would work well with my SLB202 technics since the phono setting often results in a super low sound. Heres to hoping it'll work and fix the issue. [ Stephan Aug 22, 2017 ]
I choose this item because of its value and technical match for my technics SL7 turntable. [ Ken Jul 06, 2017 ]
Needed a preamp to power the Pro-ject Debut Carbon my wife ordered for my birthday. Almost a complete set! [ YAROSLAV Apr 07, 2017 ]
I needed and amp for my turntable to accommodate a new tuner amp I purchased [ John Jan 31, 2017 ]
wish i could help, steve. but i am not that much of an audio techie. i think i just followed the advice of the crutchfield tech advisory team. [ TERRY Nov 18, 2014 ]
I would suggest the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon (dc). This is an excellent turntable and is a newer model of mine. The dc aspect removes the need of a speed box to stabilize wow and flutter (variances in speed during playback). M/c and m/m refer to your cartridge having either a moving coil or moving magnet. This turntable comes with a pre mounted Ortofon 2m Red moving magnet cartridge. If your system does not have a phono input you'll also need a preamp. Pro-Ject's Phono Box DC is what I use and it's able to be switched from m/c or m/m. Hope this helps. [ JOSH H Nov 18, 2014 ]
The Pro-Ject Phono Box DC is a powered pre-amp that works excellently via an amplifier's "Aux" input. Should be no problem for a bookshelf stereo. [ RONALD Nov 18, 2014 ]
