Motorized Faceplate: The JVC Arsenal KD-AR3000 features a fully motorized faceplate with multiple-angle display capabilities. The faceplate automatically slides out when inserting or ejecting a CD. In addition, you can set the angle of the faceplate to one of four positions for best visibility.
Variable-Color 3D Graphics: This unit features a full-motion 3D graphics display with variable color backlighting. Using the palette of 12 preset colors and adjustable red, green and blue levels, you can customize the display background with one of 1,728 possible color variations. The following colors are stored in memory: Aqua, Sky, Sea, Leaves, Grass, Apple, Rose, Amber, Honey, Violet, Grape, and Pale. You can choose Every (the color changes to a preset color every 2 seconds) or User (created by your own levels of red, green and blue between 0 and 11). You can select a different color for each source, or a single color for all sources. In addition, you can select one "user color" for daytime use and another for nighttime use (when headlights are on).
Personalized Image Capture Technology (PICT): Using the supplied Image Converter software, you can produce custom images to display on the KD-AR3000's screen. Not only can you display still images, but you can modify images so that they in effect become a mini-animated movie. Customizing the images is simple and straight forward. First, you need to capture images by downloading them from the Internet or recording them with digital equipment, like a camcorder or camera. Next, using the Image Converter software, you can edit the images and convert them to PICT-compatible graphic data. Image Converter generates a new file suitable for the head unit's display without changing the source image. After the editing has been completed, the images can then be burned onto a CD-R or CD-RW disc. Finally, the images can be transferred to the head unit from the CD-R/CD-RW disc. (See below for minimum computer requirements for the Image Converter Software)
Slide Shows: The Slideshow function allows for a maximum of 90 images to be stored in the unit's non-volatile memory. Images play sequentially for 5 seconds each for a maximum slideshow duration of seven and a half minutes before starting over.
Personalized Moving Pictures (PMP): PICT extends beyond slideshows of static images with Personalized Moving Pictures. You can create unique 3-second animations for both system start up and shut down, using scenes from your favorite music video, action sequence, or website. You can also add a 9-second screensaver sequence that displays when the unit is on but inactive.
Image Link: When an MP3 folder includes an image file edited by Image Converter, you can show the image on the display while the tracks in the folder are played back.
Display Illumination Pattern: You can select one of the following display illumination patterns:
- Positive: normal pattern of the display
- Negative: negative pattern of the display
- Time Set: displays negative pattern during time period set in menu
- Auto: a positive pattern is displayed during the daytime (while your headlights are off) and a negative pattern is displayed at nighttime (while your headlights are on). Note: For Auto to work, this unit's illumination wire must be connected to your vehicle's headlamp circuit.
Slot Lights: There are two blue lights on top of the faceplate that flash whenever you insert or eject a disc or when you change the faceplate angle. These slot lights can be turned on/off in the menu.
Display Font Type: You can choose one of two font types for the display.
Movie Demo: The movie demo mode shows different moving graphics, demonstrating the capability of the display. You can select from the following Movie Demo modes:
- All Demo: if no operation is performed for approximately 20 seconds, the movie demo starts automatically
- Int Demo: if no operation is performed for approximately 20 seconds, the movie demo and playback source indication appear alternately on the display
- Off: cancels movie demo
Theme Patterns: You can select the theme of the display during playback. When you have selected a positive display the choices include: Lighthouse over water (View 1), Windmill (View 2), 2 Audio meters or 1 (Meter), Vibrating Speaker (Shake). When you have selected a negative display, the choice also include: Nighttime traffic over a bridge (View 1), and Outer Space (View 2).
Contrast Adjustment: The display contrast may be adjusted from "1" up to "10" for optimum readability.
Dimmer Function: This unit is equipped with a wire that JVC calls an illumination lead, however, it acts as a dimmer lead. The dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), Auto (display window automatically dims when your car head lights are turned on), Time Set (used to set the timer for the dimmer function), or On (display is always dimmed). Note: For Auto to work, this unit's illumination wire must be connected to your vehicle's headlamp circuit.
Source Naming: You can assign names of up to 10 characters to up to 30 station frequencies (FM and AM), up to 32 characters for up to 40 discs (both in the head unit and in the CD changer), and up to 8 characters for the external component connected to the line input.
Preferred Setting Mode: By activating the Preferred Setting Mode (PSM), you can set up to 25 operational and display items in six categories:
- Movie: Graphics, Key-In confirmation, Opening animation, Ending animation, User Picture.
- Clock: Clock Hour adjustment, Clock Minute Adjustment, 24/12 hour clock display
- Display: Scroll mode, Dimmer mode, Dimmer Time setting, Contrast, Display type, Font type, Tag display
- Tuner: IF Filter
- Audio: Key-touch confirmation, External component, Amplifier Gain control
- Color: Selected source, User color selection, Red, Green, Blue, Slot light
Clock Display: While playing a CD, you can switch between the clock display and the CD elapsed time display (the track number always appears). While listening to the radio you can switch between the clock display and the station frequency display. When you press the Display button during power off, the unit will turn on, display the clock for 5 seconds, then shut off. This can be done with the ignition on or off.
MP3/WMA Playback: The KD-AR3000 can play MP3 and WMA files that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet or Romeo. You can display and directly select the first 12 folders on the disc (6 at a time) or the first 12 tracks in the current folder. Each disc can have a maximum of 8 folder hierarchies, 200 folders, and no more than a total of 512 files and/or folders on each disc.
Subwoofer Output: This unit has 2-volt gold-plated subwoofer preamp outputs (the front and rear preamp outputs are 5-volt outputs) on a 10" pigtail. The subwoofer output has independent level control, adjustable from 00 to 12, and a selectable low-pass crossover. You can select a cutoff frequency from Low (50 Hz), Medium (80 Hz) or High (115 Hz).
Rear Auxiliary Input: The KD-AR3000 features a set of Line Input jacks (Left and Right RCAs) on a 10" pigtail attached to the rear panel. This allows you to connect a portable CD, MP3, Minidisc, Video Game or Computer to the receiver.
Intelligent EQ (7-Band iEQ): This model has "Hard Rock", "R&B", "Pop", "Jazz", "Dance", "Country", "Reggae", "Classic", "User 1", "User 2", "User 3", and "Flat" preset EQ curves. "User 1", "User 2", and "User 3" presets can be adjusted to your preference and stored in memory. For each User preset, you can independently adjust the following frequencies: 60Hz, 150Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.4kHz, 6kHz, and 12kHz. The level of each frequency can be adjusted from -5dB to +5dB in 1dB increments.
Source Volume Adjustment: You can adjust the input level each source to match it to the FM sound level so you will not need to adjust the volume level each time you change sources. The range of adjustment is -12 to +12. This adjustment is memorized for each source except FM.
Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-AR3000 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low", the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high", and the volume control will range from 0 to 50. You can also turn off the internal amplifier with this control when you are using external amplifiers for all your speakers.
One Touch Operation: Pressing a source button (CD/Changer/AM/FM) turns the unit on and selects the source.
Tuner: This model is equipped with JVC's proprietary HS-IIIi tuner. You can set up to 18 FM and 6 AM stations as presets. Presets can be set manually, or automatically using Strong-station Sequential Memory (SSM). If an FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive, you can manually switch the tuner to "Mono" operation. You can also switch the tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity. Note: Although it is not discussed in the manual, you can select either U.S. standard or European tuning spacing.
Direct Track Access: You can directly access CD tracks 1-12 by pressing the station preset buttons. If a preset button is pressed for less than 1 second, the track corresponding to the number on the preset button is selected (for tracks 1-6). When a preset button is pressed for more than 1 second, the track corresponding to the number above the preset button is accessed (for tracks 7-12).
+10/-10 Buttons: When selecting CD tracks or an MP3 file within a folder, you can jump ahead or jump back to the nearest track/file number that is a multiple of 10 by using the "+10" or "-10" buttons. For example, when selecting track/file 32 from track/file 6, you can press the "+10" button three times (>10, >20, >30) to get to 30, then the "track up" button twice (>31, >32) to get to track/file 32.
Disc Eject Prohibit: This feature keeps the disc from ejecting even if the eject button is pushed. The disc eject prohibit feature is engaged/disengaged by pressing the CD and power buttons simultaneously for more than 2 seconds.
RM-RK50 Remote Control: The unit is equipped with the RM-RK50 keychain-style wireless remote control. The dimensions of the remote are: L=2.667", W=1.257", D=0.607". This 9-button remote can control the following functions:
