Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350

Epson's 8350 is one of the best bang-for-the-buck projectors you can buy. Its razor-sharp, high-contrast picture will please even serious videophiles. Blu-ray movies, high-def sports and video games look spectacular. Plus, the 8350's versatile design and picture adjustments make it easy to turn almost any room into a home theater that will wow your family and friends.

Epson's 3-LCD technology produces accurate, lifelike colors

Epson has been refining their 3-chip LCD imaging system for years, and the 8350 uses their most advanced technology yet. This 3-chip design uses separate red, green, and blue image chips to produce accurate, deeply-saturated colors. Each chip has full 1080p resolution so that every scene looks crisp and three-dimensional, with lifelike textures and details.

A picture that looks great in real-world rooms, not just in "caves"

Most projectors perform best in a totally-darkened room, and the 8350 is no exception. However, thanks to its impressive light output, it also works great in rooms with some light from windows or lamps. In fact, the projector's out-of-the-box picture settings are intended for rooms with some light. If you can make your room really dark, you'll want to turn on the 8350's "auto iris" feature, which monitors the video signal and adjusts light output 60 times per second, optimizing black level and contrast for each scene. With this projector, you can count on a clear, detailed picture day or night.

Flexible placement and hookup options

When it comes to placement options, the 8350 is about as flexible as it gets. It will project a flawless picture when placed anywhere from a low coffee table, to a ceiling-mount, to a shelf mounted on the rear wall of your room. Horizontal and vertical "lens shift" allow you to position the projector off-center and still get a perfectly true image. A versatile set of connections includes two HDMI inputs and one component video so you can hook up three high-def video sources.

For the best picture quality from any projector, we recommend using a projection screen.

Great Picture Anytime of Day

John from Riverton, UT on 6/5/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this projector as part of a home theater set-up for Christmas 2014, so we've been using it for 6 months now. Overall, it has been a great investment and one the entire family has enjoyed. The vertical AND horizontal lens shift adjustments made the set-up very easy without the need for keystone adjustment. I used the Sanus VMPR1 ceiling mount which worked great. The picture looks great all times of the day. We have ample sunlight entering the room and even on a Saturday morning with the sun sowing directly through the window you still get a great picture. In low light settings the picture is superb. During action movies the picture keeps up nicely and I have yet to see any pixelation or blurriness. This is my first projector and I debated long and hard over getting one of the higher priced models because I was concerned about picture quality. Ultimately the reality of the budget constraints pushed me in this direction. Looking back, I wouldn't have changed a thing. If you are looking for a great projector at a reasonable price, this is the answer!

Pros: Vertical AND horizontal lens shift, great picture in all ambient light settings

Cons: No real cons, just that the cord was too short so I had to order a longer one from a third party

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This projector is amazing straight out of the box!. I have a 106" screen and im projecting from roughly 12 ft away. The picture is crystal clear, much better than i had expected. I saw this projector at a local restaurant and was suprised at how good it looked in the lighted room. After getting it in my completely dark basement i was blown away. It was very easy to set up!.

Pros: Crystal clear picture, Very easy to set up, the mechanical screen adjustments made getting the perfect fit for my screen in under 5 min.

Cons: The only problem ive found so far is that when setting up my Bluray player through my reciever is that i had to run through all of the options to change some color output so the projector would pick up the whole picture.

Great projector!

My kids love it

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We got this projector to make use of a hideous cement wall in our backyard. We put up a 150" screen, hooked up a dvd player and a stereo and just put everything on a table (not a hi-tech set up, but we're new to this). The picture was amazing. So far we've only watched some old cartoons but it was an instant hit. The sun didn't even go down all the way before we got a great picture. This weekend is the big test when we'll be showing Star Wars to our kids for the first time.

Pros: Very easy to set up and compatible with a ton of options. Amazing huge picture. Like going to the movies at your house.

Cons: None so far.

This thing ROCKS

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This camera is very good for the price. Its got a great picture and in the end that's really what matters most. My boys are in videogame heaven with this projector. It was the key piece of the man cave. Tomorrow I'll be watching football and can't wait to experience it on the big screen. I built a screen cage for about forty dollars and with the pitch I have it covering about 110. Great detail, especially in dynamic. Fair price and world class support from Crutchfield if ever needed....Really you can't go wrong.

Pros: Price, great picture, easy to use, quiet.

Cons: Its a 2010 product so I know there is newer technology. No 3D but not a problem if you don't want 3D.

Very Quiet - excellent product

I was pretty impressed with this projector. Sharp picture and quiet operation. Initially I was not too bothered with the lens shift as I thought I would not use it but woah- it was really handy when lining it up exactly on the wall. Would definitely recommend.

Pros: Quiet, clear/sharp picture, lens shift

Cons: None so far

I've been looking at projectors for a while now to replace my Plasma TV ,I thought it would be a down grade as far as picture quality compared to my Pioneer plasma .Let me tell you this has exceeded my expectations in all ways from screen size to picture quality .

Pros: Great product for the money

Cons: fan a little noisy at times

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Install and setup are easy. Picture quality is excellent. We hung it from the ceiling. One item giving a challenge is now keeping it locked from tilting. Seems like no matter how much we tighten the set screws it still tends to need an occasional adjustment.

Pros: Excellent product at an excellent price

Cons: Could have used a better setup booklet

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have used Crutchfield for over 10 years and they have always been amazing. The projector is very easy to set up and looks amazing. My son and his friends love playing his Xbox1 on it and my daughter has sleepovers and really enjoy watching movies with it. Next step is we are going to purchase a inflatable projection screen for outside and invite friends over for a bonfire and movie night.... I also bought projector screen paint and it really made a difference.

Pros: Easy to set up and so many options to do with it.

Cons: None as of yet..

great product; light, soundless easy plug ins

Pros: great product; light, soundless easy plug ins

Cons: needs lens adjuter button on remote so one does not have to go up and down ladder 20 times; needs red whie and yellow connectors in the back, just for old times sake.

Nice upgrade

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great projector for a reasonable price. Took seconds to set up and is a great improvement to the old work projector I was using. I am very pleased and glad I bought it. I use it in a basement theater room which allows total darkness. 8 ft picture, awesome. Who needs to go to movie theater anymore. Reviews helped with my decision.

Pros: Easy set up, great picture, easy to make adjustments using the remote which you do not need to be staninding right in front of unit

Cons: The only con which I think is just the nature of projectors is that it is not as sharp as a HDTV screen but it is pretty darn close.

New to Projectors, Love it so far....

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just bought new home with 20 x 14 theater / man cave that had old projector, screen and built ins already there. Contemplated large LED for front of room but saw this option and went for it based on the reviews. Windows already tinted in room, but even with multiple lamps on at night, screen is bright and good HD quality picture off Apple TV (Directv installed this Friday, will update review then). I'm sold and thanks to others for reviews to help my decision.

My Second Epson Projector

OldRetiredEngineer from Minneapolis St Paul Area on 12/13/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We started our home theater with the Epson Moviemate 72 five years ago and enjoyed it so much that we decided to upgrade to a brighter projector this year. Our home theater is in a shared living space with some light illuminating the space during daylight hours (which can stretch past 10PM in the summer up north). We chose the Epson Powerlite 8350 for its higher levels of brightness and contrast as well as the native 1080p resolution (the Moviemate 72 is only 780p). We've used the projector for about a month and the daytime brightness is great - we have an old CRT TV in the same room that we've occasionally used during daylight and the 8350 is actually as bright as the TV! Controls are easy to use and the projector remembers the last settings (ie, HDMI input 2, brightness settings, etc). We toggle the projector down to "Natural" when it's dark outside and move up to the "Living Room" setting during daylight hours. 1080p looks great with BluRay and the 60hz refresh rate works fine for us (no 3D at our house). Overall, happy with the purchase.

Pros: Bright picture when some ambient light is present Simple controls - easy to set up

Cons: Still some "screen door effect"

The product arrived quickly and in great condition due to it's superior packing. The installation was a snap and the picture quality is stellar! I've only had the unit for a couple of months, but so far I couldn't be happier and would highly recommend this unit.

Pros: Easy to install and set up

Cons: None

Great projector

brianC from Montana on 9/28/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced a $6500 10 year old projector. This one has a great picture (I'm only using component cables as my receiver is older and doesn't have HDMI) and very good black levels. I'm using the eco mode. It is plenty bright in a basement with the lights on and gets even better with them dimmed. Getting it to fit my 120" screen was easy and only took about 15 minutes to get perfect after I got it mounted on the ceiling. The only sound from the projector is on start-up, which is very quick, and then it runs without noticeable noise. I am very pleased.

Pros: Easy set-up, quiet, great picture, super value for the picture, deep light levels.

Cons: None. Very pleased

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The projector arrived on schedule and was well packaged. It was easy to install and provides a great picture on my 110 inch screen in my barn.

Pros: Quality picture, low noise level, easy to install.

Cons: I installed this projector in my non-temperature controlled barn and it shuts down (safety feature) due to overheating on days when the outside temperature gets above 90 degrees.

Epson Delivers

Jason from Fort Worth, TX on 7/17/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When deciding on a projector for my new media room, (aka the Sports Cave) I was struggling to decide which unit to buy on the $2k budget I had. After extensive research I limited the choice down to two options - the EPSON 8350 or the EPSON 3020. After speaking with a friendly Crutchfield rep, I chose the EPSON 8350. (which had better contract but no 3D feature - I don't need 3D with sports) I couldn't be happier with the result. The picture is great - not quite LED LCD great - but still amazing. Being that I have room which I can completely manipulate the light, I chose a 106" Elite EZFrame in Cinegrey to help bring out the blacks. (a noted fault of the projector) It worked. Movies and sports both look great. The project pumps out plenty of light at 16' away and adjusted easily without distortion. Lastly - special thanks to the CF rep who flat out told me to save the extra $300 and get the 8350. You never find salesmen these days looking out for the consumer - most just want to upsale you. I got to spend the saved money on more cool crap for my Sports Cave!!!

Pros: A great bank for the buck. Amazing picture, good brightness balance, and relatively quiet.

Cons: There really isn't one that i've found yet. I suppose if I had to list something it would be the fan noise and heat pumping out of the thing. (minor issue)

Pros: Much more economical way to achieve a 100+ inch viewing experience compared to super expensive giant LED or Plasma TVs.

Cons: None.

Beautiful Performance

JK from Windsor, VT on 3/22/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I mounted this machine on the ceiling and hung a 92" DaLite screen. The setup was as easy as could be. I loaded a blu ray and could barely beleive my eyes! If you can imagine watching a giant hi-def LCD screen in your home, that's the effect this projector had on me. Really powerful performance for the price.

Pros: Incredible value vs. performance. Wide selection of illumination and color temp. settings

Cons: Only drawback will be eventually replacing the light source as is needed in any projector.

Bright Visions

Leather Harold from Biloxi MS on 2/11/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I admit it. I've been a video resistor for decades, but love classic films. A more recent discovery is specialty videos, particularly railroad documentaries. I tried them on my old flat screen 30-inch "TeeVee". Okay, but yucky sound. But I had a computer connected to the audio inputs of my component stereo system, and it had a DVD player, but an even tinier 19 inch monitor. Well, the sound was earthshaking, but the image was just small. So I talked to the good folks at Crutchfield. I didn't want to spend thousands on a wall-sized TV with lots of capabilities I'd never use, but what about a projector? We soon decided that the 8350 was the model for me. I searched my garage loft, and finally pulled out a sixty-year old Army Signal Corps surplus movie screen, huge thing with what I calculated as an 82 inch diagonal (4:3 ratio). The Epson arrived, and I put in the Animusic DVD (it's a great Video/audio system test) and something beyond wow was the result!. Bright, clean images with sharp detail and good, full color. Why did I wait so long to do this? Thanks so much Crutchfield!

Pros: Bright, clean images, easy alignment and setup, lots of input choices

Cons: That is an extremely bright lamp driving this thing. Believe them when they say don't look into it. Don't even walk by it without averting your eyes!

Best projector for the money

TheRealDonatello from Hawthorne, NJ on 1/29/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Couldn't be happier with this projector. In the right setting, the picture quality is equivalent to that of any display I've seen; LCD, LED, or Plasma. I have mine set up in the basement, which is pretty dark to begin with, projecting onto a 96" fixed screen. Most people think it's a 96" LCD screen initially until they see the projector. It's that good. Even with all the lights on, the picture is still clearly visible, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend putting this or any other projector in a well lit area unless absolutely necessary. This projector does have a color mode that combats some of the washout produced by light, but it's certainly much better in the dark. All-in-All, this projector and a decent screen to project on to will give you a top of the line experience at a middle of the line price.

Pros: - price - much more affordable than a standard LCD, LED, or Plasma. - quiet - you won't even hear it running - picture quality - it will exceed your expectations

Cons: - lighting - best in a dark room, but this is a problem inherent to all projectors, so don't single this one out

Absolutely Awesome!

Ted K from Vinton, Iowa on 12/15/2011

I recently traveled to my nephew's home for a week long vacation, and to help him set up his new home theater. He had it located in a dedicated room in his basement. We calibrated the audio levels quickly using an analog audio level meter. A few tweaks later, we were in business. I own a Sony VPL-VW 50 Pearl projector that originally sold for $5,000. My nephew bought an Epson 8350. I was skeptical at first, but I was very impressed by its picture. He paid about a fourth what I did, and his Epson's picture totally blew my Sony out of the water! Great blacks, great color, and 2,000 lumens, compared to my 1,000. It does not have a motorized zoom and focus, which can make it a bit trial-and-error to position and set up. The bulb on my Sony is due for replacement, but I may consider an Epson 8350 instead. I am a retired broadcast engineer with 37 years experience. I was involved with system installation and calibration. Let me tell you, that for the bucks, the 8350 looks GOOD!

Kevin O from Elk Grove, CA on 9/29/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This projector is the best value around. Picture quality is excellent on 120" screen. 100% dark room is a must for good blacks, but that's to be expected. I am looking forward to the next generation that has a faster refresh rate.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Incredible; based on what I've read, you can't do better for the price. The quality is outstanding (I've watched 23 hours on it now), even on a blank wihite wall. Colors really pop; Life/Planet Earth are pretty breathtaking. The thing is quite big, but not overly heavy. The lens shift makes placement very flexible and easy.

Outstanding Projector

EKaru from North Bethesda, MD on 2/18/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this projector from Crutchfield a few months ago and I have to say that this is the best 1080P for the money. I also considered the Panasonic pt-ae4000u, which was almost double the price, but there was no discernible difference in image quality. With 1600 ANSI, it's bright enough to watch a movie with ambient lighting in the room and it's 50,000:1 delivery exemplary blacks. It's also very quiet.. All in all I'm very satisfied and would recommend this to anyone looking for a 1080P projector. In my opinion, paying any more money for something else is a waste...

Quality at a bargain price

John from Jasper, GA on 2/3/2011

Bought this item based on so many positive reviews. Coupled with a quality screen, this projector rivals any LCD, LED based, LCOS, DLP or plasma tv hands down! I have it set up in my living room and while I have taken some measures to handle ambient light, this projector combined with my screen looks AMAZING during the brightest part of the day and equally AMAZING at night. At 120", my family is constantly amazed at the picture quality and impact such a sight brings. It truly is a home theater. The size is daunting and the weight is up there, but it's whisper quiet and stellar performance outweigh this projector's size. In short, I'm super happy with my purchase and highly recommend this item.

Control Inputs: The projector has a 9-pin RS-232C port for connecting to an AV Controller. In addition, there is a 3.5mm mini-jack port that outputs a 12-volt DC signal when the projector is turned on. This lets a central control system monitor whether the projector is on or off, and can be used to raise or lower your projector screen automatically when the projector is in use.

Color Modes: The Home Cinema 8350 offers five color modes to optimize viewing for different environments and image content. The Color Mode adjusts the brightness, contrast, and color for the best possible picture. A different color mode can be selected for each input source. You can select from these Color Modes:

  • Dynamic: for projecting the brightest picture available
  • Living Room: for watching television programs during the day
  • Natural: for projecting natural, accurate colors in a dimly lit room
  • Cinema: for viewing movies in a dimly lit room
  • x.v.Color: for the most natural color reproduction when viewing movies through HDMI

Advanced Color Adjustments: You can adjust the gamma and individual RGBCMY color tones using the remote control. There are five gamma settings to choose from (2.0 to 2.4), or you can customize your own settings from your image or a displayed graph. You can also individually adjust the hue, saturation, and brightness for each of the red (R), green (G), blue (B), cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y) components.

Note: These adjustments are not available when the Color Mode is set to x.v.Color.

Auto Iris: The Home Cinema 8350 features an advanced, high-speed auto iris function that adjusts the light output based on the gamma and black/white levels of your projected content up to 60 times per second.

Lens: The projector's Fujinon OptiCinema 2.1x projection lens is a precision, high-quality, optical-grade system. It offers excellent picture uniformity and clarity across the screen. If the projector cannot be placed perfectly centered between the top and bottom of the screen, you can use the lens shift dials to reposition the image. The top-mounted lens shift controls off approximately 96% vertical and 47% horizontal lens shift without image distortion.

Adjustable Image Size: The Home Cinema 8350 projector can produce an image that is adjustable between 30" and 300" (measured diagonally).

Lens Projection Distance: The projector's adjustable lens provides a wide range of placement possibilities for a given screen size. The projection distance (distance from lens to screen) range is 2.85' to 62.83'. The distance for several screen sizes at 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios are given below:

Screen Size Projection Distance (in feet)
16:9 4:3
30" 2.8 to 6.2 3.5 to 7.6
40" 3.8 to 8.3 4.7 to 10.1
60" 5.8 to 12.5 7.1 to 15.3
80" 7.8 to 16.7 9.6 to 20.4
100" 9.8 to 20.9 12 to 25.5
120" 11.8 to 25.1 14.4 to 30.7
150" 14.7 to 31.4 18 to 38.4
200" 19.7 to 41.8 24.2 to 51.3

Projector Controls: The projector features controls on the top, front, rear and one side. The controls include:

  • Top Panel:
    • Power: turns projector on or off
    • Source: switches the video input source
    • Lens Shift: rotary dials for horizontal and vertical lens shift
    • Indicators: LEDs indicate power on (inside power button), lamp on, and temperature warning
  • Front (on lens): zoom ring and focus ring
  • Side Panel:
    • Menu: displays the menus
    • Escape: exits the current menu item
    • Menu Navigation: left, right, up, down, and enter buttons for navigating and selecting menu items
  • Rear Panel:
    • Main Power Switch: turns off power to the projector (must be on in order for the top panel power button to operate)

Remote Control: In addition to the control panel, the projector can be controlled by the supplied wireless remote control, which has a range of approximately 30 feet. The projector has infrared receivers on the front and rear to give you control from most anywhere in the room.

Sleep Mode: The projector turns off automatically when no video signal is received for a preset amount of time. You can set the sleep mode to 5, 10, or 30 minutes.

Mounting Options

Mounting: The Home Cinema 8350 can be placed on a tabletop or inverted and mounted on the ceiling. It can be used for front or rear projection. For tabletop use, you can adjust the image position by raising or lowering the two front feet. For ceiling mounting, you will need an optional projector ceiling mount. Five 4mm threaded screw holes are provided on the bottom for a ceiling mount. A commercially-available Kensington security lock can be attached to the unit to prevent theft when installed in a public location.

Warranty Information

Warranty and Extra Care Home Service: The projector is covered by a 2-year parts and labor warranty, while the lamp is covered for 90 days. Included with the warranty, Epson offers Extra Care Home Service. A replacement unit (in most cases, a refurbished unit) will be shipped to you immediately. (A credit card is required for security deposit.) If it's important that you receive your original projector back, you should use the basic carry-in service instead of Home Service.

Lawrence, I'm not entirely sure what you're asking. With setup, my projector is about 12.5 ft back from the wall, and the largest picture I can get is about 130". Of course, you can go smaller than this at that distance. Also, some words of advice, look for another projector than the home cinema 8350. I'm on my third in 1 yr, and haven't had anything but trouble. Look for a different brand. - Brian [ BRIAN W  Nov 10, 2014 ]
Use the chart in the owners manual [ MATTHEW J  Nov 10, 2014 ]
We have a 102 inch screen and the projector is 13.5 feet away. The sizing of the image fits very well. [ JOSHUA  Nov 10, 2014 ]
around 20 feet. I have it at around 16 feet and my screen is 109 inches. [ VIJAYAKUMAR  Nov 10, 2014 ]
My screen is 9'x5' (124" diagonal). The projector is mounted 13 ft from the screen with no problem at all cutting off the image. It is an amazingly high quality, high definition picture. [ JOHN W  Nov 10, 2014 ]
I have a 120" diagonal and my projector is 14 ft.away. I will suggest that you take your projector to your room after installing the scree. Turn it on and move back and forward until you get a ball park distance. Have someone measure the distance and then proceed to install the projector. It always take minor adjustment to get it right. Hope this help. [ DIEGO  Nov 10, 2014 ]
Audio is carried through an HDMI cable or Left/Right RCA audio cable and played through a small on-board speaker. If no onboard speaker you will need to run Audio/Video to a Amplifier/Receiver. Video will run either from Receiver or Video Source. [ KEVIN  Dec 23, 2013 ]
I have mine set up with just an HDMI cable going to the projector. The HDMI cable is connected to a receiver. The receiver handles all the audio for the projector. [ BRIAN W  Dec 17, 2013 ]
We run our sources (dvd players, game consoles, TV receiver, etc.) into an audio/visual receiver - which drives a surround sound speaker system for audio and outputs video via hdmi to either a large screen tv or to the 8350 for projection onto a still larger screen. [ RODNEY  Dec 14, 2013 ]
The projector only produces video. Audio is produced through a separate receiver. Ideal setup is an hdmi cable between the source and the receiver and another hdmi between the receiver and the projector. Hope this helps. [ PHILIP  Dec 14, 2013 ]
thanks [ JIMHARE  Dec 06, 2013 ]
thanks we will use a lot more than typical so we wanted to have a bulb on hand when we buy unit thanks [ JIMHARE  Dec 06, 2013 ]
Received 8350 on 11-29-13 have not installed yet. Will do Saturday. If the 8350 is as good as the Epson Pro Printers I don't se me changing bulb in a long time. Epson make excellent products and Crutchfield the best service in the industry, [ DIEGO  Dec 04, 2013 ]
James I have not had to replace mine yet. Still going strong. There are bulb online [ JOHN  Dec 03, 2013 ]
Hey James: When I bought my projector in February it was an accessory I could have purchased at that time. I didn't purchase it due to the cost and not knowing how long it would sit on a shelf or get lost. I haven't had to replace it and if it lasts for the stated life of the bulb it will probably be good for a few years. I might want to upgrade by then. Hope that helps. Dan [ DANIEL L  Dec 03, 2013 ]
I've only had it for 8 months, and have not had to replace the lamp yet, so I'm not much help here [ MICHAEL G  Dec 03, 2013 ]
Thank you - [ JIMHARE  Dec 06, 2013 ]
For a 100 inch image you will want to mount this projector between 9.8 to 20.9 feet for widescreen images. [ Jeff  Dec 03, 2013 ]  Staff
