Overview: The Olympus Note Corder DP-311 is a compact, easy-to-use,
hand-held portable digital voice recorder. The
recorder has a built-in 2 GB flash memory for
hours of recording time, and an SD card expansion slot so you can use different
memory cards for different occasions. It has a built-in, monaural microphone, a
36mm (1.42") diameter mono speaker, and
jacks for an external microphone and headphones. The DP-311 operates on two
"AAA" alkaline batteries (included).
LCD Display: The DP-311 features a large, 2.14" (diagonal),
easy-to-read monochrome LCD display which indicates recording and playback
information, as well as the current date. You can select from 13 different menu
languages, including English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian.
Simple Operation: The unit has large, clearly marked, shaped
buttons for Play/OK, Stop, and Record, making the recorder easy to operate.
Built-in Microphone: The unit features a built-in
electret condenser microphone on the top of the recorder. In addition to the built-in microphone, the
recorder also has a 3.5mm external microphone input. The microphone sensitivity
can be set to low or high.
Built-In 2 GB Flash Memory: The DP-311 Digital Voice
Recorder features a built-in 2 GB flash memory which can hold hours of audio or
Memory Card Slot: In addition to the 2 GB built-in memory,
the DP-311 has a memory card expansion slot for more recording capacity. The
slot will accept SD and SDHC memory cards from 512 MB to 32 GB. You can use the
cards like cassette tapes and record different events on separate cards. When
you're finished recording, you can upload your files to your computer with a
card reader or the built-in card slot on your computer.
Note: The DP-311 does not have a USB port for connecting
directly to your computer.
File Recording: The DP-311 organizes recorded files by days.
You can record up to 99 files per day. You can also use the calendar to record a
voice memo on a future date. Up to ten 1-minute voice memos can be recorded per
day. They are managed in the internal memory. As you look at the calendar on the
display, you can see which days contain recorded files (indicated by an
underline) and/or voice memos (indicated by a corner triangle).
Recording Modes: The DP-311 records MP3 audio files in 3
modes. Using the side-mounted Mode Dial, you can select from the following
- Conversation: Recorded at 64 kbps, the Conversation
mode is a High Quality mode that is suitable to record two or more voices in
conversation or for recording interviews, lectures or meetings. The
microphone sensitivity is set to High to record voices from a distance.
Frequency Response: 70 Hz to 11 kHz.
- Loud Sound: Recorded at 64 kbps, the Loud Sound mode is
a High Quality mode that is suitable for recording audio from live bands or
large singing groups. The microphone sensitivity is set to Low to record
loud sounds without distortion. Frequency Response: 70 Hz to 11 kHz.
- Dictation: Recorded at 24 kbps, the Dictation mode is a
Standard Quality mode, suitable for recording personal notes, dictation, or
voice memos. The microphone sensitivity is set to Low to record your voice
in close proximity without distortion. Frequency Response: 70 Hz to 3800 Hz.
Playback Speed: You can adjust the playback speed as you
desire; slowing it down to review spots you couldn't understand, or speeding it
up to listen to meeting content at a faster speed. You can choose from Normal
Playback (x1.0 Play), Slow Playback (x0.5 or x0.75), or Fast Playback (x1.2,
x1.5, or x2.0).
Stand: The recorder has an integrated stand on the back of
the body, that can be used to place the unit at an angle when placed on a
tabletop. The stand is designed to reduce the noise that can be picked up from
the surface of the table during recording, and provides a better angle for
recording voices during a meeting or lecture.
Noise Canceling: During playback, the Noise Canceling
function reduces background noise from the recording, allowing you to hear the
recorded voices better. Playback speed returns to normal when Noise Canceling is

Erase: You can erase your recorded
files one at a time, or all files recorded on a particular date, or all files at once.
Hold Function: The DP-311 has a Hold function that will lock
the buttons to prevent accidental operations. The Hold function is activated by
sliding the power switch to the Off position while the recorder is in operation.
