If you're looking for a radio to fill a hole in a car your selling, this one's for you. It's impressive on paper, but after the newness wears off you realize it isn't really up to participate with what other radios are offering.

    Pros: Clean lines, basic controls

Cons: Didn't include the double din sleeve. Mediocre sound quality

    Nakamichi 1550

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the Nakamichi based on the quality audio name for my 07 Corvette when the OEM CD unit shot craps after 8 years. The Nakamichi unit was everything I expected and then some. It is a great looking unit, sounds great thru the OEM BOSE speakers and looks like it should be there in the dash.

Pros: Love the SD card input especially... as well as all of the other inputs. Quality build Quality name Bluetooth works great

Cons: Screen glare in daylight. Wiring issues not addressed in the instructions which the Crutchfield Team quickly remedied. The installation kit screw holes were not aligned to securely attach it. The knobs, are fairly small. Half of the view screen is taken up by the type of input being used. More choices when playing from the SD Card , e.g., album or artist. Recognized but would not play my iPod. Volume varies widely between different inputs. Had to custom size faceplate.

    Oversized front-panel

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The only reason I gave this 4 stars, is due to oversized front-panel on this Nakamichi. I had to do extra work with installing this unit is due to Nakamichi's front-panel is bigger than standard/other brand's double-din sized unit. I ordered this for my 2008 Corolla, where Crutchfield shipped with a face-plate/frame to fit Corolla's dash-countour. The Nakamichi's face-panel, including the 2 dials (power/volume and the tuning dials) are wider than the supplied face-plate/frame. I got around it after applying my Dremel and filing skill to trim both sides of the supplied face-plate's and carved some round "curves" on both side of the face-plate to make room for the dials. Once installed, everything works as promised and it sounds great!

Pros: Build quality, brand recognition, nifty remote

Cons: Oversized front-panel. Need to make sure it fits your current double-din opening.

    Touchscreen Display

6.2" Touchscreen Monitor: The Nakamichi multimedia receiver features a fixed 6.2" widescreen touchscreen LCD monitor. The screen has a resolution of 800 x RGB (x3) x 480 with 1,152,000 total pixels. This unit has touchscreen controls with interactive video graphics, making menu navigation easy.

    • Adjustable Brightness: You can adjust the brightness of the display from High, Low, or Off.
    • Clock/Calendar: The multimedia receiver offers a 12-/24-hour clock and month/date/year display. You can view the clock from any source screen, but not Menu screen. Or, you can select to view both the clock and month/date/year at the same time without any source information. The unit must be turned on to view clock and/or calendar.
Note: In addition to the unit's LCD touchscreen controls, the NA1550 also features two 3-way rotary knobs and three push-buttons for Power, Menu, Source, Volume, and Eject functions.

Parking Brake Detection: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the pink wire (attached to rear-chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is fully engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display this message - "Video Blocked! Engage Parking Brake To Enjoy Video!". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, and song/artist info.

Modified Fit: The Nakamichi NA1550's front-panel design causes it to interfere with standard Double-DIN dash kits. You will have to modify the kit's opening and sometimes your vehicle's dash opening to accommodate this head unit. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Nakamichi NA1550 multimedia receiver is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (2.0+EDR) allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile)
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile)
Note: All Bluetooth features are functional with or without the vehicle's parking brake engaged.
Pairing: Initially, you will need to pair your Bluetooth-enabled device with the Nakamichi NA1550 multimedia receiver. Only one device can be paired at a time.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Nakamichi NA1550.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ Integrated Mic): The Nakamichi NA1550 allows for wireless communication between the head unit and your Bluetooth-enabled iPhone, Android smartphone, or other Bluetooth compatible mobile phone. You'll be able to answer incoming calls, as well as dial outgoing calls. You can transfer the voice from your vehicle speakers to your mobile phone during a call for more privacy.

    • Answer/End Incoming Call: When there is an incoming call, the current audio source is muted and a ring tone is played via the loudspeakers of the car sound system. The head unit's display will indicate the phone number or display "Phone In" if there is no phone number. You can answer the incoming call from the head unit's front-panel controls or set the unit to automatically answer an incoming call. You'll be able to speak into the head unit's integrated front-panel mic during your phone conversation, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers.
    • Dialing Outgoing Call: You can make a call using the Nakamichi multimedia receiver's touchscreen controls. Outgoing calls can be made be entering telephone numbers (0-9, *, #) directly via the head unit's touchscreen. All other dialing functions (like phone number, phone book, voice, etc) will have to be done from your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone first and then transferred to the head unit.
Note: The Nakamichi multimedia receiver also features a 3.5mm microphone input for adding an external mic (291BTMIC1, sold separately) with better clarity.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Nakamichi NA1550 allows you to wirelessly play back stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, or other Bluetooth-enabled devices using a Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP connection. You can control basic playback functions of your music on your Bluetooth-enabled device from the NA1550's front-panel. Playback functions include Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track.

Note: This unit does not display song/artist information from Bluetooth audio devices, instead it will display your Bluetooth device's "nickname".

This one cable provides audio/video playback and charging of your Android device, while the Bluetooth connection provides control (via CarMirror app).
    • Apple iOS Connectivity: If you have an iPhone 5 or newer with the Lightning connector, you will need Apple's Lightning Digital AV adapter and Lightning-to-USB cable; if you have an older 30-pin iPhone 4/4S, you'll need a 30-pin digital AV adapter and the 30-pin dock cable (all sold separately). In addition, for both types of iPhones, you will need a a mobile-grade HDMI cable (sold separately). The HDMI cable plugs into the Mirror Phone Box's HDMI input for audio/video playback, while the Apple device's USB-connector cable plugs into the head unit's front-panel USB port for charging.
