Protect your equipment and improve its performance

The Panamax M5300-PM does more than just protect your audio/video system from harmful power spikes. The M5300-PM can safeguard up to 11 components, and it includes a protected front-panel USB jack for your MP3 player, cell phone or another portable electronic device.

Clean power for high-performance audio/video gear

This power conditioner has ten AC outlets on its back panel, divided into five isolated banks to minimize cross-interference between your components. Two of the outlets accommodate high-current components, such as an amplifier and powered subwoofer. These switched outlets operate on a delay to prevent "speaker thump" when powering your system on and off. A front-panel digital voltmeter and ammeter let you closely monitor the AC power coming into your system.

Ethernet and coaxial RF protection

The M5300-PM also has two sets of protected Ethernet jacks, including one jack on the front panel, so you can surf the web without worry of power surges. A pair of protected telephone jacks prevents spikes from coming in through your phone line, while three sets of coaxial terminals shield your satellite, cable TV and antenna connections.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Solid build and great piece of mind. Can't say it helped picture quality any but I purchased it more for the protection features. I Especially like the accuracy of the amperage display and how it increases and decreases with a bright or dim image on my plasma TV. Overall very satisfied.

Works well

Norris from Roanoke, VA on 10/29/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Cleaned up my video signal to my 4k TV. Also keeps the voltage perfect on my anthem MRX 720. I can see and hear the difference from my old surge protector. Build quality is excellent. Real time display to let you know how much amperage and voltage connected equipment is using. Dimmers are a nice touch. Includes rack mount.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My system (Sony STR-ZA2100ES receiver, Bower & Wilkes speakers in a 7.2 setup with duel Velodyne subwoofers) had slight noise when we moved into the new house. We replaced our old PureAV power condition with this Panamax and everything is fixed. Surround sounds great now :)

Pros: Great price for a quality product

I bought this entirely for aesthetics. I have my surge protector in clear view in my console, and this thing doesn't look like a horrific rats nest when viewed from the couch.

This is one well made product. I purchase it to clean up the power for home theater set up but especially to get rid of hum from my moving coil cartridge turn table & this unit did cure it ! Wonder if Panamax ever thought of having remote control to turn unit on/off could be a plus.

Pros: Excellent quality & delivered

Cons: zip !

Panamax Protection

Eddie from Honokaa, HI on 12/13/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The M5300-PM replaced a MAX 5500 Regenerator I had purchased many years ago. The 5500 had begun "humming" loudly and per Panamax - it was too old to repair. So far I'm please with M5300-PM. Easy to set-up and operate. I like the Power Button feature that allows you to "turn-off" Banks 3, 4 and 5 outlets in order to save power. The LED Dimmer control button is an excellent feature for controlling light level in my living room. I use the "High Current" outlets for my Receiver and AMP and would have preferred the "VCR/AUX" outlet be another "High Current" switched delay outlet for use with my sub-woofer. But really - not an issue. I hope to receive as many years of reliable Home Theater audio/video equipment protection as I did with the MAX 5500.

Pros: Excellent Panamax protection, performance and reliability.

Cons: I would have like another "High Current" outlet.

Does what it needs to and runs cool!

This unit replaces an older Monster unit that tended to run warm. I am trying to lower the heat of my rack so this was a good choice. I also like that this protects agains brown outs where the Monster did not. The USB on the front comes in handy for running a cooling fan as well.

Pros: nicely built and runs cool

Cons: cannot dim the front panel lights which can be overly bright

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

At first I had bought a refurbished unit on Amazon, and it worked flawlessy for several years. The old one shorted out somehow, and I decided it was worth it, because of the old ones performance. And as of yet I have not been dissapointed.

Pros: Excellent protection for an Audio or TV system

Cons: A bit pricey, but well worth it in the long run.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Seems to be working as my entertainment center has survived several electrical storms. It appears to dealing with voltage changes but without test gear or more instruments it is hard to say.

Pros: Easy to install and use out of the box. The various displays keep you informed about the electrical current situations.

Cons: The unit almost did not fit in the entertainment center cabinet from side to side. I had the benefit of installing it on a pull out shelf. This makes moving it out for electrical plug changes much easier.

Looks good

Plenty of outlets and it looks good. It is hard to tell if it works as advertised, but with my luck it won't be long; lost everything to lightning for the second time in 3 years.

Pros: Looks, number of outlets

Pros: Easy hook-up.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I conduct acoustic research and found that my amplifiers would "drift" generating higher or lower amplitudes during the night.a huge problem for my experiments. I suspect this is due to poor grounding and lots of voltage fluctuations in the electrical system. After plugging my amps into this unit, they have remained absolutely steady! I'm very impressed with this unit!

Pros: controls voltage swings

Cons: none

Excellent product

Anonymous from Portland Oregon on 9/23/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product. I have an APC power conditioner and it is really good and I would recommend it. But the Panamax is a cut above. We had a tree fall and take out three power lines on Saturday and no issues with a surge with either the Panamax or APC. I subjectively feel that the Panamax does give a better pix then the APC. also I have all the plugs I would ever need. One knock is it seems like the Comcast cable box will not play well with the Panamax coax connection but I figure that Comcast owns that box so I don't care. My APC did not have coax connection.

Pros: Plenty of connections. Eithernet front and back. Cool look. Easy set up. Bottom line if you have high end gear you need this protection and improves picture.

Cons: Does not play well with Comcast box. Also not a con but be sure to measure the width, it did fit in my place but it was tight.

Just what the doctor ordered

Big Daddy from toledo on 1/10/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great looking unit. Replaces an older monster one. Compared quite a few, decided on the 5300. Not sure of the audio improvement yet, but can see a noticable improvement in video. Waiting on a pair of def tech 8060 s , will be able to try the high current outlets then. Really like the ability to dim the front display. By the way the blue lights match all of my componets, cool. Very well made and feels like it. Would highly recommend.

Pros: Love the 11 outlets! Nice to protect ethernet connections. Seperate power banks.

Great Product

James R. from Orlando, FL on 9/24/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After a good deal of research, I landed on Panamax ... many reviewers stated that it was a solid product, comparing it to more expensive products and having the same features. I looked at both user, and professional reviewers, and when I learned that Panamax was a sister to Furman, it sold me. I've been using Furman equipment as a live performer for years, and their products have always been rock solid ... so this was a great selling point. The only thing left was to choose which of their lineup was appropriate for my application. The 5300 was a great choice for my AV system at home, and after using it for a couple weeks, I have noticed a marked difference in my video, as well as the way my system units operate.

Pros: Flexible, solidly built and straightforward in its use

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Have constant lighting problems in rural area for many years. The Panamax worked like a charm, cutting off the power when the latest brown outs which would've easily damaged my electronics. I had 2 of them working at the same time when this happened and am satisfied.

Love it, but have a wish...

Lesio from San Jose, CA on 9/15/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is great product, the switched outlets switch great on 12V DC control, the round blue dispay windows complement my Marantz receiver almost perfectly... one wish: the brightness of the display to be auto-sensitive to the ambient light, I am not kidding, for that much money today, I think that is a small feature to ask for... Note: DC controls specifically say 3.5 mm mono cable, stereo cable does NOT work here.

Nice piece of equipment

Tom from Rochester NY on 7/5/2011

I moved a component rack to the corner in the living room. That, of course, necessitated a second power conditioner/surge protector for the components (Denon 3311, Sony BR, CD Jukebox, Cable Box, Ethernet Switch, and Zone 2 amp). Wanted a component-style unit so didn't have to mess with squeezing a strip-type behind components on a shelf or on the floor behind the rack. The direction of the outlets was also an issue, because I have a block plug (Ethernet switch), and that ruled out a few which have sideways outlets. After some indecision, finally settled on the 5300, so I'd be set if I do ever bring everything back together on one stand/rack. And the block plug is no issue. It is well-built, obviously quality construction, and I have no doubts that from the protection perspective, I'm good to go. Which leaves the age-old "does it really improve performance?" question. Because of my setup, I can't really determine if video is improved, since the TV is on a separate conditioner. Picture does seem a bit clearer, though that may be my imagination (we all see/hear what we want to when we buy new toys). But for audio, yeah there is a definite improvement. Clarity is better overall, both for CD stereo and surround sound -- and most noticeable is the bass on DefTech 7004s, much cleaner and defined. I would definitely recommend this unit, well worth the price.

Superb Power Conditioner

Tom K. from Mission Viejo, CA on 3/31/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I already had a good surge protector, but with a lot of expensive equipment plugged into it, I decided to go for a component power conditioner that would work under any circumstance. I had 2 Panamax units in mind, the M5100 and the M5300. While I'm sure the 5100 would have worked just fine, there were a few more features with the 5300 that made the unit stand out that much more. You can select which units you want on all the time and units that can go off or on with the main power switch of the power conditioner. I honestly thought the idea of "clean power" was a sales gimmick, but I have noticed a cleaner look on some of the non-hd channels on cable. Having all my home theater components plugged into the Panamax M5300 provides peace of mind knowing everything is protected. It's a superb power conditioner which I highly recommend.

excellent unit

glenn from michigan on 1/14/2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit is very well made. There are more features than I need( plugs). As soon as I connected my DTV and sony XBR to the unit the picture improved. So there you have it......the power condition works. The only thing I wold have done differently is to turn off all of the front panel lights when the unit is shut down. Good job Panamax.

Well made and does it's job... for the most part

cimpala from Boston, MA on 11/21/2008

I've had this unit for about 2 weeks now. Looking at the functionality, it has two main features. They are power conditioning and surge protection. I can't tell if there is any "power conditioning" going on, as everything looks and sounds the same as my older Monster Power Center. Nothing is worse though. I'm sure it's protecting my equipment and if it's not there is a great warranty and protection plan. What I can say is that it is very well made, sturdy, and good looking. However, the lights on the front are bright. You can turn them down but not off. I find that if they are all the way up you can read it, but it is distracting. If you turn them down it makes it hard to read. I am not sure what it is (maybe the lit rings) but the numbers are difficult to read at any light level. I am comparing this to looking at the displays of the rest of my equipment. I can read those fine. Another point to note is the USB charging port. It will charge my mp3 player, but not my phone. My phone will charge if I plug it into my computer though. I bought this unit for a few reasons: I like how it displays both volts and amps, it is rack mountable, and it has plenty of outlets (the one on the front is great). It works. If you can get a good deal, it's worth a look.

Feel safer already

You never know what can happen in earthquake this Panamax offers us some peace of mind. In a state where you never know what the electricity will do either, it's nice to know our AV equipment is well protected by this stellar surge protector. Doesn't hurt that it's cool looking too!

Controls And Indicators

11 AC Outlets: The Panamax M5300-PM features 1 front-panel "Always On" AC outlet, 4 rear-panel "Always On" Linear Filtered outlets divided into two separate banks, 4 rear-panel "Switched" Linear Filtered AC outlets also divided into two separate banks, and 2 rear-panel "Switched/Delayed High Current" AC outlets.

  • High Current Outlets: The unit's two High Current Outlets provide power from a low impedance noise filtration circuit that does not limit the current to your equipment. Its output is noise isolated from all of the other outlets.
  • Linear Noise Filtration Outlets (Switched): The unit's four switched Linear Noise Filtration Outlets are divided into two separate banks and are controlled by the front panel Power Button or the DC Trigger input. These outlets will turn on immediately and turn off after 10 seconds. LiFT EMI/RFI noise filtration is provided by a two-stage balanced Pi filter which also provides noise isolation from the other outlet banks.
  • Linear Noise Filtration Outlets (Always On): The units four "always on" Liner Noise Filtration Outlets are divided into two separate banks and will only power off during a fault condition (under-voltage/over-voltage). Power is cleaned from these outlets by a two-stage balanced Pi filter which also provides noise isolation from the other outlet banks.
  • Gaming Outlet: The M5300-PM features a convenient AC outlet located on the front-panel for connecting your gaming system temporarily.

Level 4 Power Leaning And Filtration: Level 4 Power Cleaning and Filtration eliminates common symptoms of contaminated power (including loss of detail, pops, hisses, hums and visual artifacts) and allows your A/V equipment to perform up to its full capability.

Automatic/Visual Voltage Monitoring Circuitry: Panamax's patent pending AVM circuitry continuously monitors the incoming power as displayed on the unit's digital voltmeter. In case of an under-voltage or an over-voltage, a flashing red lightning bolt will be displayed in the voltmeter, and power to the connected equipment is automatically turned off if either of these conditions is detected. When voltage returns to a safe level, power to the equipment is automatically reconnected.

Cross-Contamination Reduction: The M5300-PM is designed to provide noise isolation between 5 isolated outlet banks (including 1 bank with 2 high current outlets) so that any noise created by an A/V component cannot contaminate the power going to equipment plugged into another outlet bank

Power Sequencing: The M5300-PM features Power Sequencing to guard against blown fuses and potential damaging speaker thump by automatically power outlets on and off in sequence. This feature minimizes in rush current issues by allowing the components plugged into the Switched Outlet Banks to power-up and stabilize before any amplifier and powered subwoofers are turned on. This sequence is reversed during shutdown. The amplifier and powered subwoofers turn off, their power supplies drain and then the equipment plugged into the Switched Outlet Banks are turned off.

Voltage Sense Trigger Input/Output: The M5300-PM voltage sense trigger input and output uses a standard 3.5mm (1/8") mini-mono plug. This feature provides an On/Off trigger for the M5300-PM using a direct current voltage signal. You can connect the DC Trigger Input to a remote trigger device that uses a DC output to trigger a start-up/shutdown sequence. The DC Trigger Output can be connected to a remote trigger device that uses a DC trigger input to pass the M5300-PM's startup/shutdown sequence to an additional device.

HD Ready Coax Jacks: The unit's bi-directional coaxial protection circuits achieve optimum signal quality from newly designed connectors that have less than 0.5 dB of attenuation from 0Hz to 2.2GHz. The unit's clamping level of 75V will meet the demands of both cable and satellite voltage while minimizing exposure to damaging spikes and surges.

Phone Jacks: The unit features an RJ-11 input and output for protecting your standard telephone or pay-per-view lines. The Phone circuit is auto-resetting.

LAN Jacks: The M5300-PM is equipped with two RJ-45 LAN inputs and one RJ-45 LAN output on it rear panel; and a bi-directional RJ-45 LAN jack on its front panel. The LAN protection circuits are designed for 1-/100 baseT Ethernet lines. The front-panel bi-directional LAN jack is an Ethernet pass-thru connection between the units front and rear panel. The front panel LAN port is also great for on-line gaming.

USB Charger: The M5300-PM features a front-panel USB type-A port for charging your MP3 player, cell phone, or other small electronic.

Digital Voltmeter: The M5300-PM features a front-panel Digital Voltmeter which monitors the voltage supplying your home theater equipment. If line voltage drops below 90VAC, or if the line voltage exceeds 142VAC, the display will turn off and the "unsafe voltage" indicator will flash indicating and unsafe voltage condition.

Digital Ammeter: The M5300-PM features a front-panel Digital Ammeter which shows the actual current draw (0-15A) of the connected components system, giving you a visual reference as to how your system is functioning under a variety of conditions.

Outlet Bank Power LEDs: Each bank of outlets feature a corresponding Blue LED indicator. These LEDs indicate the status of the corresponding rear panel outlets. The LED will be lit when the outlets are turned On. They will flash during the startup and shutdown process.

Circuit Breaker: A circuit breaker is located on the back panel of the M5300-PM. The circuit breaker will trip only if the total current draw exceeds the maximum current rating (15A). This means that collectively, all outlets must draw more than 15 amps before the circuit breaker will trip.

Rack-Mount Brackets: The M5300-PM comes with rack-mount brackets to mount it in a 1U rack space.

$5,000,000 Lifetime Connected Equipment Warranty: Panamax will replace, pay to replace at fair market value, or pay to repair, up to $5,000,000 of equipment that is damaged by an AC surge while connected to a properly installed Panamax surge protector, if the surge protector shows signs of surge damage or is operating outside of design specifications. For coverage conditions and information on how to make a claim, please see the warranty sheet.

The Panamax M5300-PM is typically recommended to protect home audio/video equipment--it *may* also work with your Professional Audio equipment, but you will want to contact one of our Pro Audio Advisors directly for more details. You can call them at 800.555.9369 or chat with them from our website: [ Larry  May 04, 2017 ]  Staff
If you are facing this unit on the right side and rear you will find a terminal marked GROUND LUG. It is also just below the units circuit breaker. On my system it is gold in color and has rough edges to make it easier to grab and to turn. Unscrew it just enough to place the turntable wire either under it or round the terminal post that is now exposed to you. [ GEORGE  Mar 22, 2017 ]
Perhaps I am misunderstanding the question, but here is how I view it. Often, the audio connection from turntable to pre-amp or phono amp includes a 3rd wire (in the case of an RCA type connection) to eliminate any ground loops. The power supplies of the turntable and pre-amp / phono amp may often terminate with a 3-prong style plug, containing a ground wire. The Panamax does not interfere with this arrangement, as far as I am aware. I do not believe that the audio out ground wire is to be connected to the Panamax directly. [ LOUIS  Mar 21, 2017 ]
I am not really sure, I have had this thing for a while now. But I do love it, it does protect the audio equipment that I have. [ DONALD WILLIAM  Mar 21, 2017 ]
Plug in the turntable and attach the ground wire to the ground lug on the Panamax. [ W. Ross  Mar 21, 2017 ]
I would be reluctant to plug a cell phone into this unit or any other unit that has not been supplied by the cell phone manufacturer. Apple recently tested several charges, that were made by other companies, that it found on the web for use with their cell phones. Some of these units did not comply with their cell phone electrical specifications. [ GEORGE  Mar 22, 2017 ]
Yes, it does. The USB port is on the front face of the unit and in fact it is labeled with a little battery icon. I have used this to charge my phone. [ LOUIS  Jun 04, 2016 ]
I am not sure I never have tried it. But I don't see why it wouldn't work [ DONALD WILLIAM  Jun 03, 2016 ]
I have never tried a cell phone. Mine is in a rack unit and I use the usb to power a cooling fan. I have never had a problem with it, but if you are charging a phone compare the output of your charger with the output on the Panamax before trying. [ Kurtis  Jun 03, 2016 ]
I bought this unit to replace a cheaper Panamax that I had that kept shutting my system down when the vacuum ran. This unit has solved that problem. Whether that is due to less bleed from different banks is hard to say, but the voltage does not drop near as much with this bigger unit. I have not experienced anything that would lead me to believe the noise filtration is any less on one bank over another. I have been very happy with my choice. [ Kurtis  Feb 26, 2016 ]
It is different but not any less effective. They are isolated from the other banks so there's no noise or interference from your other components. I hope that helps! My Bio: [ Ryan  Feb 25, 2016 ]  Staff
bank 1 x 2 are identical, the current draw for a cable box and a TV is minimal. each bank is rated at 15amps, no where near the component need. So my answer is this-it does not matter which you use [ JOHN  Jul 28, 2015 ]
Yes, you can do that. However, all banks are pre-labeled for the type of hardware that should be plugged into them. I'm sure you're aware of that already. Each bank is rated for that type of hardware and hence the reason to have them labeled for that hardware. But, if you're limited on banks to use, you can plug into that bank. [ Ed  Jul 28, 2015 ]
Bsnk 3-4 and up, as I would want to keep modem and router always on (bank 1-2) [ ALEXANDER A  Mar 22, 2015 ]

HDTV Monitor is where I have plugged in my lcd. [ LISA N  Mar 21, 2015 ]
If I could, I wanted to also let them know how much of a difference in sound quality the Panamax makes in my home theater speakers. I have a 5.1 surround set-up with Deftech Sats and a Center. I use 1 SVS 10" ported sub. I have listened to this set-up prior to purchasing my Panamax and the difference in sound quality was night and day once I ran all of my hardware through the Panamax. The whole sound stage brightened up after I set up the Panamax. I run an Onkyo 727, Oppo BDP-93, Sony 5 Disc CD Changer and my HD cable set top through the Panamax and they all perform nicely. I've had about 4 power failures due to outages in my neighborhood and the Panamax shuts down, then sequentially powers each bank back up as advertised. I have had zero issues with the unit and it is a literally a powerhouse. Great product! [ Ed  Mar 21, 2015 ]
I can't remember exactly which bank it is, but all banks are identified as to which piece of hardware plugs into which bank. That's one of the nice things about this unit, it actually identifies the bank to plug into on the back. I have a Panasonic ZT60 and it performs very well through the Panamax. So, turn the Panamax around and you'll see all banks are labeled for the type hardware that should plug into them. [ Ed  Mar 21, 2015 ]
I use one of the linear filter, always on outlets. I have a plasma TV and it is normally in a standby mode where it is drawing some power. You can also turn the switched outlet on all the time. You can then use these too. [ ROBERT  Mar 21, 2015 ]
