The latest thinking on blur reduction

For years TV makers have used fast refresh rates to reduce motion blur on LCD TVs. Samsung's Clear Motion Rate is a more complete measure of how well a TV can depict fast-moving images. CMR considers three factors: frame refresh rate, image processor speed, and backlight technology. If you like your fast-action scenes to look sharp and clear, the UN40EH6000 does a fine job.

Very pleased with the product. Picture is very bright and clear right out of the box. Cable remote works fine with the TV. Haven't connected any other accesories yet, so cannot comment on additional connectivity

Pros: Everything I hoped for.

Cons: Nothing so far

great TV and Great service

Jerry from Burlington, NJ on 1/29/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The TV arrived in very good condition and very timely. The setup was easy to follow with the reassurance of Tech assistance if needed. This was my wife's Christmas present and she is very happy with the product.

Pros: light weight, easy to setup and view, very good picture and good speakers. Very good bargain for this type of TV

Cons: Need an additional HTMN port for future use.

Samsung TV

Carol from Doylestown, OH on 12/13/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

TV was very simple to set up. The picture is outstanding.

Pros: Clear, Crisp picture.

Cons: There are just enough AVI components for the red, white and yellow connections for just one component. When I discovered this, I had to purchase a BluRay with HDMI cable so we could use our Wii/PS2 on the TV. Our old Sony TV had enough jacks for both our Wii and PS2.

GRS from Barton Rouge, LA on 12/10/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It was the largest TV I could get to fit in the space I had available. The set up was very easy and after I got the hi-def box from Cox and the HDMI cable the picture is awsome! This is my first hi-def TV but everyone told me to go with Samsung and I couldn't go wrong. They were right!

Pros: Set up was very easy. The picture is fantastic.

Cons: My previous TV crapped out the Wed. before Thanksgiving. I ordered that night. I paid almost $100,00 for next day saver shipping but I know they wern't going to do anything on Thanksgiving Day. They called Black Friday morning to verify the order and I received a notification that it was ready for pick-up but it didn't ship until Monday morning, the day it said I would receive it when I ordered it. I know the holiday probably messed up the scheduling but I was still a little disapointed.

Bob P from Lancaster, NY on 11/22/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We purchased this TV on Nov 14th. Concerned about BLACK FRIDAY priciing I asked the Crutchfied Phone Consultant, "what if this goes on sale for BLACK FRIDAY", Dale said we have a 60 day price guarantee...if it goes lower YOU get the money back. We received the TV in TWO DAYS (as promised), it took 5 minutes to screw the TV to the provided stand (basic plastic, which is fine for us) and literally in 2 minutes the TV recognized the cable box, configured itself and produced a GREAT PICTURE. THEN THE PRICE WAS reduced by $30 for Black Friday sale, and TRUE TO THEIR WORD, Crutchfield issued a $30 credit to our credit card. Oh yeah, also used our $5 Crutchfield Rewards card to reduce the price (in case you had any doubts about that program).

Pros: We have made multiple purchases from Crutchfield and have NEVER has an issue with products or customer service. This is a GREAT TV @ guaranteed price. Plus, we cannot get a 3D TV since our Neurologist said viewing 3D is not recommended for people who suffer from migrane headaches.

Cons: None

Great picture, great price for this TV

I'm happy with it

BillB from Western MA on 11/12/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was a little skeptical that this TV would arrive in two days, as predicted, but it did. Setup was simple, the picture is beautiful, and the sound quality is better than I expected. I'm very happy with it. I've never had a bad experience ordering anything from Crutchfield.

Pros: Very good picture quality. Very good sound quality.

Cons: Manufacturer's user manual is not terribly complete and can be difficult to understand in places.

Great picture, great value

Sean from C-Ville, VA on 10/1/2012

I've had this TV for about a month now and I love it. I bought if primarily for watching soccer in HD. I wanted a plasma but due to space constraints I could not fit one in my home. I did not want any of the "smart" features as I have an Apple TV which takes care of that for me. I didn't want 3D. I wanted the best picture I could buy for the money. I think I found it in this set. I'm not a videophile and don't really like tinkering with my TV. I just want to turn it on a have it be brilliant. That didn't happen with this set but after a little fiddling with the settings I am very pleased. There is no lag while watching soccer. The picture is bright and crisp in daylight and darkness. I have Comcast so my HD viewing review is based there. I don't have a Blu Ray either but Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey both look marvelous on this TV. The color is rich and the detail is great. I do notice varying levels of sharpness on different channels but I think that is due to the quality of the HD feed from the network. For example, PBS looks AWESOME in HD. Watching the News Hour the clarity is amazing. Same with ESPN2's feed for soccer. Their feed is better the Fox Soccer Channel's HD feed. I would like another HDMI port because I will probably buy a PS3 eventually and then I'll need to switch ports or buy a switch and I'd prefer not to have to do that. The sound is decent for most things but if we are going to watch a movie I plug in my iPod dock speakers. Would buy again.

Pros: Great picture quality, light weight, easy to adjust picture if necessary, deep blacks, no blurring while watching sports in HD

Cons: lack of HDMI inputs, speakers could be better

Pros: Great Picture Excellent Sound

First Impressions are Amazing

Anonymous from Salt Lake, Utah on 5/10/2012

I have had this TV for a couple of days now and have to say that it is everything I had hoped for! I knew I didn't need the internet connectivity for my TV, if you want that then this isn't for you. What I bought this for was a nice simple set for my bedroom. The slim edge gives it a very nice look, it isn't slim in depth, but it certainly looks beautiful on the outside. Once I turned this TV on I put in one of my favorite movies, Star Trek. The picture is AMAZING. I am incredibly picky about my picture and I had to just sit back and smile at how crisp and lifelike the movie was. The settings are simply laid out and to be honest, I have yet to fiddle with the fine tuning because I found the picture to be awesome right out of the box. The audio is miserable if you are used to a surround system, but as many others have said, what do you expect in a thin tv? Some folks may complain about only having 2 HDMI ports, but seriously, who is not running an Audio Receiver box that is reading these reviews? All you need is 1 HDMI port in my book. In summary, the picture on this TV is awesome! If you want a flashy internet ready set that is ultra thin, spend a lot more money. If you want a TV that has incredible picture for the cost, this is the way to go!

Pros: Picture Quality Construction Appearance

Cons: Speakers

Direct-Lit LED Technology:  Direct-Lit LED backlight technology bridges the gap between lower-cost CCFL (fluorescent) LCD TVs and newer edge-lit LED-LCD TVs. Samsung's Direct-Lit LED-LCD televisions feature LEDs positioned all the way across the LCD panel's back plane (instead of along the side). Unlike "Full-Array" backlight LED-LCD televisions that also feature LEDs positioned along the LCD panel's back plane, the Direct-Lit LED technology uses fewer LEDs and do not offer local dimming. Since there are fewer LEDs, the LCD panel's back plane must be moved farther away from the screen to provide adequate light coverage across the LCD panel, making the TV much deeper than an edge-lit LED-LCD television. Direct-Lit LED backlight technology offers a better picture and is more energy efficient than previous CCFL (fluorescent) LCD televisions, though it requires a much larger cabinet design than newer edge-lit LED-LCD TVs.

Clear Motion Rate 240: Clear Motion Rate (CMR) is Samsung's more comprehensive and accurate measure for how well the LED-LCD TV can display fast-moving images. Previously, motion clarity was expressed simply by the refresh rate, measured in Hz. CMR, however, takes into account all three factors that contribute to motion clarity: panel refresh rate, image processor speed and backlight technology. CMR is measured by determining the thinnest line a TV can display in a moving image. The thinner the line, the higher the CMR rating, and the clearer the picture you'll enjoy on the screen.

  • Panel Refresh Rate (Hz): Samsung's screen refresh rate (120Hz) significantly improves motion detail and resolution by sampling the image more frequently, leading to smoother, more fluid movement.
  • Image Processor (Auto Motion Plus): Samsung's proprietary Auto Motion Plus image processing technology is faster and more responsive than conventional image processors, as it interpolates intermediate frames to smooth out the image.
  • LED Backlight Technology: Samsung's Edge-Lighting Backlight technology regulates output precisely in synchronization with the screen refresh to lessen the time it is lit, reducing ghosting and motion blur.

Auto Motion Plus 120Hz: Auto Motion Plus 120Hz removes blur and judder from scenes with large amounts of rapid movement to provide a clearer picture. Auto Motion Plus 120Hz reduces blur so that action movies, sports and video games have enhanced clarity. Advanced panels and unique backlight technology combine with proprietary algorithms to reduce the response time and yield a more accurate image reproduction with faster onscreen motion. Auto Motion Plus 120Hz can be set to Clear, Standard, Smooth, Custom, Demo, or Off.

Wide Color Enhancer Plus: Wide Color Enhancer Plus allows you to see picture color the way the director originally intended. Witness the entire RGB spectrum brought to life on your screen to bring you exceptionally vibrant, yet natural-looking images faithful to the director's original intent.

5,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio: The LED-LCD TV delivers a Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 5,000,000:1; which provides stunning colors and deep black, so your picture's details don't get lost in the shadows.

HDTV Tuner: The TV has built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Digital Cable (QAM) tuners, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals.

1080p Resolution: The LED-LCD television displays all inputs at a resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080). The television's HDMI and component video inputs will accept 1080p (24/60Hz), 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i video signals.

  • HDMI (v.1.3): The Samsung LED-LCD TV features two HDMI 1.3 inputs. In addition, any HDMI input can be used to connect a PC to this TV.
  • Component Video: The Samsung LED-LCD TV features a single component video input. The TV's component video input can also be used as a composite video input (480i only).

Screen Sizes: You can choose one of the following screen sizes.

  • 16:9: Sets the picture to 16:9 wide mode.
  • Zoom 1: Vertically enlarges the size of the picture and allows you to move the enlarged picture using the arrows on the remote.
  • Zoom 2: Vertically enlarges the size of the picture more than Zoom 1 and allows you to move the enlarged picture using the arrows on the remote.
  • Wide Fit: Proportionally enlarges the picture to fit the entire screen without changing the aspect ratio.
  • 4:3: Sets the picture to 4:3 normal mode with pillars on the left and right of the screen.
  • Screen Fit: See the full image with no resizing when HDMI (720p/1080i/180p) or Component (1080i/1080p) signals are inputted

Note: Screen Size settings can be stored for each external device you have connected to an input of the TV.

Picture Control: You can make the following adjustments for an optimum picture.

  • Picture Modes: Picture Modes apply preset adjustments to the picture.
    • Standard: suitable for a normal environment
    • Dynamic: suitable for a bright room
    • Movie: suitable for watching movies and games
    • Entertain: suitable for watching movies and game
  • Manual Picture Settings: The TV has several options for manually adjusting the picture quality.
    • Backlight: adjusts the brightness of the LED backlight
    • Contrast: adjusts the contrast level of the picture
    • Brightness: adjusts the brightness level of the picture
    • Sharpness: adjusts the edge definition of the picture
    • Color: adjusts the color saturation of the picture
    • Tint (G/R): adjusts the color tint of the picture
  • Advanced Picture Settings: The TV also offers more advanced picture adjustments for fine tuning.
    • Black Tone: adjusts the black level on the screen to adjust the screen depth
    • Dynamic Contrast: adjusts the screen contrast so that the optimal contrast is provided
    • Gamma: adjusts the primary color (red, green, blue) intensity
    • Color Space: adjusts the range of colors available to create the image (Auto/Native)
    • Color Tone: adjusts the overall color tone of the televisions using one of four presets: Cool, Normal, Warm 1, Warm 2
    • Flesh Tone: emphasize the pink flesh tone in a picture
    • White Balance: adjusts the color temperature for more natural picture colors

Note: You can adjust and store Picture Settings for each external device connected to the TV.

Motion Lighting: The TV automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen in response to the brightness of the room. In bright light, the screen brightens. In dim light, the screen dims.

LED Motion Plus: This function removes drag from fast scenes with a lot of movement to provide a clear picture.

HDMI Black Level: You can select the black level on the screen to adjust the screen depth when you have a component connected via HDMI to the television. You can select either Normal or Low.

Noise Filtration: The Samsung TV provides digital noise and MPEG noise filtration.

  • Digital Noise Filter: If the broadcast signal received by your TV is weak, you can activate the Digital Noise Reduction feature to help reduce any static and ghosting that may appear on the screen. You can select Low, Medium, High, Auto, or Off.
  • MPEG Noise Filter: This filter reduces MPEG noise of the picture. You can set the MPEG Noise Filter to Low, Medium, High, Auto, or Off.

Film Mode: The TV can be set to automatically sense and process film signals from all sources and adjust the picture from optimum quality. Film mode is supported in TV, AV, Component (480i/1080i), and HDMI (480i/1080i).

Game Mode: When connecting the television to a game console, you can enjoy a more realistic gaming experience when selecting Game Mode.

Audio Features

SRS TruSurround HD: SRS TruSurround HD is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including the internal television speakers. It is fully compatible with all multichannel formats.

Sound Modes: You can choose from the following Preset Sound Modes:

  • Standard: Selects the normal sound mode.
  • Music: Emphasizes music over voices.
  • Movie: Provides the best sound for movies.
  • Clear Voice: Emphasizes voices over other sounds.
  • Amplify: Amplify mode is for people who have difficulty hearing.

Equalizer: You can manually adjusts the TV's built-in 5-band EQ (100 Hz, 300 Hz, 1 kHz, 3 kHz, and 10 kHz) for a more customized sound.

Auto Volume: Auto Volume automatically adjusts the volume of the desired channel, lowering the sound output when the modulation signal is high or raising the sound output when the modulation signal is low. This reduces the difference in volume when changing channels. The Auto Volume feature can be set to Normal, Night or Off.

Audio Delay: The Audio Delay function corrects audio/video mismatch, when watching TV or video, and listening to a digital audio output using an external device such as an AV receiver. You can adjust the audio delay from 0ms to 250 ms.

Audio Outputs: The Samsung LED-LCD television provides an analog and digital audio output.

  • Digital Audio: The optical digital output terminal will output Dolby Digital (when available) or 2 channel PCM. The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital when receiving Dolby Digital surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the tuner on the LED-LCD TV. The optical digital audio output will only output in 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via HDMI, RCA, or USB.
  • Analog Audio: The television features a 3.5mm (minijack) audio output for connecting the television to an analog 2-channel receiver. You will need a minijack-to-RCA adapter (119MCON2M, sold separately) to make a stereo RCA connection between the television and your AV receiver. The TV's analog audio output terminals will output 2ch audio from any of the television's source inputs.
