A Smart TV with Smart Content

Samsung's latest Smart TVs give you new ways to access your favorite shows, movies, games and more, on the web and elsewhere. You'll find content providers like Netflix®, Hulu Plus™, ESPN ScoreCenter, and more. And a full web browser is included for convenient searching. And Samsung upgraded their AllShare™ networking feature so you can access your content from the cloud and even control other compatible devices.

The right connections to be your digital entertainment hub

The two most essential connections for today's video sources and digital devices are HDMI and USB. High-definition components like cable and satellite TV receivers look and sound their best via HDMI, and so do a growing number of digital cameras and camcorders. And the USB ports let you plug in a wide array of devices — like that thumb drive with your favorite photos and music.

Beware Samsung updates

SteveW from Reno, NV on 4/25/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice picture and I like the WiFi feature for streaming Netflix movies, but Samsung does regular updates through the internet on the software that runs the TV. Every time they do an update you have to sign in to Netfix again, using the clunky sign-in procedure with an on-screen QWERTY keyboard, an unacceptably inconvenient procedure. Also, Samsung's phone-in tech help is abysmal. Last time I called, they hung up on me!

Pros: Nice picture. WiFi and Netflix enabled.

Cons: This is NOT a smart TV. This is a stupid TV. If you want a smart TV, spend the extra $1000 and get the one with the dual-core chip, which makes it a true computer. Don't bother trying to get tech help.

My first LED TV

GaryS from Michigan on 2/20/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first LCD/LED TV. It replaces a CRT, also bought from Crutchfield long ago. I am still learning how to use the many features and discovering new ones every day.

Pros: Very good picture, sound OK for speech (news).

Cons: If you like music, cosider different speakers (I ordered a "soundbar".

Worth recommennding

Proud shopper from Phoenix, AZ on 2/1/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did it right: research, compare, compare, and buy. My new tv is a purchase I am thrilled with! I recommend Crutchfield to everyone who is buying a tv. From price to delivery & , of course, talking to Sonny who answered all my questions, this was the easiest shopping experience I've had in a long time. No buyer's remorse for me!

Pros: Price, accessibility to a REAL person, delivery (one day before promised!), and a great product that was a breeze to set up!

Cons: None so far!

good picture and lots of apps

Incredible TV - Smart and More

MGM from Jacksonville on 12/13/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Incredible TV at a Super Price. This is more computer then television . Samsung supplies a number of applications . Hopefully this will grow soon. The only down side is with some apps you have to be a paying subscriber. But in most cases the cost is minimal for what you receive. The All Share and networking works flawlessly. I'm able to access any computer or device with no trouble. I can use my smartphone to connect to All Share and stream directly to the TV. I would highly recommend the Smart TV .

Pros: Smart TV, Apps. Networking, Picture Quality

Cons: None That I have found.

Samsung is Smart

Cole from Maryland on 12/6/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I looked at a bunch of TV's before I made the plunge and spent more than originally allocated but the differance for the "Smart" feature looked worth the extra money. Great picture easy set-up. WiFi access is lighting fast. You Tube you could spend the rest of your life on especially when it is so big and bright. Streaming Netflix is seamless. This TV is a great buy but a big secret, all of the big box stores usually show only the higher priced "Smart" Samsungs. Fast shipping and I know Crutchfield is there if I need support.

Pros: Bright picture Easy set-up, intuitive. Flawless streaming Good sound

Cons: None that I can see!

Not impressed

Keri from Circle, MT on 12/3/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

TV arrived but would not power up. Very disappointing to have waited almost 2 weeks to get it and then it doesn't work so now we are waiting another week for a replacement. Crutchfield was helpful and gave us an upgrade at the same cost but not impressed with Samsung so far. Guess we'll see if the upgrade is any better.

Pros: None

Cons: Doesn't work!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This LED has a supurb picture and very good sound at a very reasonable price. The controls are acceptable, if not as good as some others. I chose it because a very good Consumer Reports review compared to similar priced sets. I chose Crutchfield because their prices are always good and their service is excellent Shipping was amazingly fast.

Pros: Picture quality. Sound. Weight.

Cons: The controls on the remote are not as straightforward as on some other brands.

TV is Very Good; Crutchfield is beyond compare!!

Joelg31 from Santa Fe,NM on 10/26/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did a lot of research, a lot. The choice was based on value, bang for the buck, and prior experience buying from Crutchfield. The TV is very very good for the $. I had some problems with set-up, my problems not the Samsung. Crutchfield tech support was amazing, no hold time, knowledgeable and very very patient. They talked me through step by step, answered ALL my questions and explained until I was satisfied. I am a customer for life. There are tons of corporations that should model Crutchfield.

Pros: SERVICE-Technical support!! A very good TV for the $. Great picture. Fairly easy to set-up and fine tune.

Cons: Sound is only so-so. If you watch movies, upgrade. For $300.00 I bought a decent receiver and speakers. Samsung support needs much improvement, but Crutchfield support is the best.

Better than expected

JackC from Little Switzerland, NC on 9/18/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have to admit that for the price I did not expect the sound and picture quality that the product produced. Consumers Report gave it a high rating, but I didn't expect it to approach my Sony Bravia. It is extremely light for its size, and is extremely easy to mount on the wall. It also offers multiple input and output connectors, which makes interfacing with other devices such as Apple TV, DVD, conputer, and sound systems. Overall, I couldn't ask for anything to change or be added.

Pros: PIcture quality, sound, weight, multiple ouput/output connectors.

Cons: None

Great HD Television!

Bill R from Athens, Ohio on 6/24/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice TV! Easy to set up and the screen resolution is great - we really enjoy it! Had to call the cable company to embed the proper code in the cable box remote to access the full range of buttons on the cable box remote to interact with the TV but that was no problem. Glad we bought this! We have a lot of outside light in our Sunroom yet the picture on the TV is very good and not hampered at all by the sunlight.

Outstanding TV for the money

Ben from Boston, MA on 5/19/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Compare the specs with any other TV out there today and you'll find this to be an excellent quality TV for the price. Samsung makes a top-notch product. I did lots of comparative shopping both online and in stores and the UN46EH5300 at $879 (no tax, free shipping) was THE WAY TO GO. No regrets.

Pros: Great LED 1080p screen. It simply looks fantastic. The Samsung Apps were a pleasant surprise. I formerly used a laptop as part of my home theater setup to stream audio/video from internet sites as well as networked and local drives. I now rarely use the computer wired. Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora and Windows 7 "Play to" feature takes care of all my needs -- wirelessly!

Cons: Call me old fashioned, but I wish it had another component/composite input. Now I have to update either/both my DVD player or receiver to accommodate all my (slightly outdated but good quality) devices. Occasionally the apps will crash and the TV will reboot (this takes less than 15 seconds so it's no big deal)

Wonerful experience

Johnd from riverside ca. on 5/10/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great Set, but think Samsung has misleading advertising. It advertises surround sound etc. but you must have a self contained surround sound system to hear surround sound. This set has two speakers which should have been a warning to me to see if other speakers could be attached before I purchased. So why even bring these words in their description and advertising and mislead the consumer.?

Pros: easy setup great picture

Cons: very time consuming to try to get Anynet to control both Samsung units I have

Excellent LED TV

JG from Las Vegas, NV on 4/25/2012

This is a great TV. The sound is great for a TV. The picture is awesome and very adjustable. The wifi is outstanding and all of the internet based services work flawlessly.

Pros: The smart TV functions

Cons: Perhaps too many available controls in the TV menu.

Great TV Experience!

EOtto from Charleston, SC on 4/21/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this TV for a couple of weeks now, and I can't find anything I don't like about it! The built in wifi is excellent. I used to have to access Netflix and other online services through my PS3, now I just hit one button and I have a full menu of items; Netflix, Hulu, Facebook, etc. The picture quality is excellent! This 46" LED is the exact same physical size as the 42" Samsung LCD it replaced. My 42" LCD generated a good bit of heat after being on for a while, this LED produces no noticeable heat! I love this because the LCD could make my LR quite warm after an hour or so, but this TV stays cool even after 3 hours of continuous use. But the biggest bonus for Crutchfield? They were $200 cheaper than local stores when I bought this TV! Way to go Crutchfield!

Pros: Easy to use, quick access to your favorite internet multimedia and social sites, maximum picture size for TV size, does not put off heat when in use, picture quality, price (you are getting more than you paid for)

Cons: You'll be tempted to spend more time in front of you TV!

Direct-Lit LED Technology:  Direct-Lit LED backlight technology bridges the gap between lower-cost CCFL (fluorescent) LCD TVs and newer edge-lit LED-LCD TVs. Samsung's Direct-Lit LED-LCD televisions feature LEDs positioned all the way across the LCD panel's back plane (instead of along the side). Unlike "Full-Array" backlight LED-LCD televisions that also feature LEDs positioned along the LCD panel's back plane, the Direct-Lit LED technology uses fewer LEDs and do not offer local dimming. Since there are fewer LEDs, the LCD panel's back plane must be moved farther away from the screen to provide adequate light coverage across the LCD panel, making the TV much deeper than an edge-lit LED-LCD television. Direct-Lit LED backlight technology offers a better picture and is more energy efficient than previous CCFL (fluorescent) LCD televisions, though it requires a much larger cabinet design than newer edge-lit LED-LCD TVs.

Clear Motion Rate 120: Clear Motion Rate (CMR) is Samsung's more comprehensive and accurate measure for how well the LED-LCD TV can display fast-moving images. Previously, motion clarity was expressed simply by the refresh rate, measured in Hz. CMR, however, takes into account all three factors that contribute to motion clarity: panel refresh rate (60Hz), image processor speed and backlight technology. CMR is measured by determining the thinnest line a TV can display in a moving image. The thinner the line, the higher the CMR rating, and the clearer the picture you'll enjoy on the screen.

LED Motion Plus: This function removes drag from fast scenes with a lot of movement to provide a clear picture.

Motion Lighting: The TV automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen in response to the brightness of the room. In bright light, the screen brightens. In dim light, the screen dims.

Wide Color Enhancer Plus: Wide Color Enhancer Plus allows you to see picture color the way the director originally intended. Witness the entire RGB spectrum brought to life on your screen to bring you exceptionally vibrant, yet natural-looking images faithful to the director's original intent.

3,500,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio: The LED-LCD TV delivers a Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 3,500,000:1; which provides stunning colors and deep black, so your picture's details don't get lost in the shadows.

HDTV Tuner: The TV has built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Digital Cable (QAM) tuners, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals.

1080p Resolution: The LED-LCD television displays all inputs at a resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080). The television's HDMI and component video inputs will accept 1080p (24/60Hz), 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i video signals.

  • HDMI (v.1.3): The Samsung LED-LCD TV features three HDMI 1.3 inputs. In addition, any HDMI input can be used to connect a PC to this TV.
  • Component Video: The Samsung LED-LCD TV features a single component video input. The TV's component video input can also be used as a composite video input (480i only).

Screen Sizes: You can choose one of the following screen sizes.

  • 16:9: Sets the picture to 16:9 wide mode.
  • Zoom 1: Vertically enlarges the size of the picture and allows you to move the enlarged picture using the arrows on the remote.
  • Zoom 2: Vertically enlarges the size of the picture more than Zoom 1 and allows you to move the enlarged picture using the arrows on the remote.
  • Wide Fit: Proportionally enlarges the picture to fit the entire screen without changing the aspect ratio.
  • 4:3: Sets the picture to 4:3 normal mode with pillars on the left and right of the screen.
  • Screen Fit: See the full image with no resizing when HDMI (720p/1080i/180p) or Component (1080i/1080p) signals are inputted
  • Smart View 1/2: Reduces the 16:9 picture by 50% (1) or 25% (2).

Note: Screen Size settings can be stored for each external device you have connected to an input of the TV.

Picture Control: You can make the following adjustments for an optimum picture.

  • Picture Modes: Picture Modes apply preset adjustments to the picture.
    • Standard: suitable for a normal environment
    • Dynamic: brightens screen; suitable for a bright room
    • Natural: softens pictures; suitable for reducing eye strain
    • Movie: darkens screen; suitable for watching movies
    • Entertain: sharpens picture; suitable for gaming
  • Manual Picture Settings: The TV has several options for manually adjusting the picture quality.
    • Backlight: adjusts the brightness of the LED backlight
    • Contrast: adjusts the contrast level of the picture
    • Brightness: adjusts the brightness level of the picture
    • Sharpness: adjusts the edge definition of the picture
    • Color: adjusts the color saturation of the picture
    • Tint (G/R): adjusts the color tint of the picture
  • Advanced Picture Settings: The TV also offers more advanced picture adjustments for fine tuning.
    • Black Tone: adjusts the black level on the screen to adjust the screen depth
    • Dynamic Contrast: adjusts the screen contrast so that the optimal contrast is provided

    • Color Tone: adjusts the overall color tone of the televisions using one of four presets: Cool, Normal, Warm 1, Warm 2
    • Flesh Tone: emphasize the pink flesh tone in a picture
    • White Balance: adjusts the color temperature for more natural picture colors

Note: You can adjust and store Picture Settings for each external device connected to the TV.

HDMI Black Level: You can select the black level on the screen to adjust the screen depth when you have a component connected via HDMI to the television. You can select either Normal or Low.

Noise Filtration: The Samsung TV provides digital noise and MPEG noise filtration.

  • Digital Noise Filter: If the broadcast signal received by your TV is weak, you can activate the Digital Noise Reduction feature to help reduce any static and ghosting that may appear on the screen. You can select Low, Medium, High, Auto, or Off.
  • MPEG Noise Filter: This filter reduces MPEG noise of the picture. You can set the MPEG Noise Filter to Low, Medium, High, Auto, or Off.

BD Wise: BD Wise provides the optimal picture quality for Samsung DVD, Blu-ray, and Home Theater products which support BD Wise. When BD Wise is set to On, the TV's picture mode is automatically changed to the optimal resolution.

Film Mode: The TV can be set to automatically sense and process film signals from all sources and adjust the picture from optimum quality. Film mode is supported in TV, AV, Component (480i/1080i), and HDMI (480i/1080i).

Game Mode: When connecting the television to a game console, you can enjoy a more realistic gaming experience when selecting Game Mode.

PIP (Picture-in-Picture): You can watch the TV's tuner and one external video source simultaneously. The TV channel will be displayed in a sub-screen which can be moved to each corner of the television's screen. You can switch the audio between the main screen and sub-screen.

TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including the internal television speakers. Picture Off: You can turn the television's screen off and still listen to audio.

Audio Outputs: The Samsung LED-LCD television provides an analog and digital audio output.

  • Digital Audio: The optical digital output terminal will output Dolby Digital (when available) or 2 channel PCM. The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital when receiving Dolby Digital surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the TV tuner or a Samsung App via a network connection. The optical digital audio output will only output in 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via HDMI, RCA, or USB.
  • Analog Audio: The television features a 3.5mm (minijack) audio output for connecting the television to an analog 2-channel receiver. You will need a minijack-to-RCA adapter (119MCON2M, sold separately) to make a stereo RCA connection between the television and your AV receiver. The TV's analog audio output terminals will output 2ch audio from any of the television's source inputs.
