Samsung's PN51F5500 creates vibrant, engaging images whether you're watching 2D or 3D video. 3D certainly makes you feel more a part of the on-screen action, and while true 3D content is still kind of scarce, this set's 2D-to-3D conversion creates an added sense of depth with the push of a button. If you're already a 3D fan, just slip on a pair of the included 3D glasses and add another dimension to your viewing enjoyment. And if you don't love 3D (yet), this is an outstanding TV for watching 2D, too.
When you connect to your broadband Internet service you'll see why Samsung calls this a Smart TV. Built-in web apps let you instantly watch movies streamed from Netflix®, or catch up on TV shows you missed with Hulu Plus™. There's tons more to explore, and if your PC is networked you can even search through the video and music you've stored on it using the TV's remote. This set's built-in Wi-Fi® gives you another way to take advantage of your wireless network.
The PN51F5500 makes finding great things to watch easier. Samsung's innovative Smart Hub organizes your favorite entertainment into five simple panels: On-TV, Movies and Shows, Social, Apps, and a panel for your personal photos, videos and music. You can actually ask the TV for recommendations while you're watching, like "what football games are on?" You speak into the microphone built into the touchpad remote, which feels more natural than talking to the TV screen.
If you have a Galaxy S3 smartphone or Galaxy tablet, you can share movies, photos, and music via the PN51F5500. Your Wi-Fi® network lets you do things like toss photos from your phone or tablet to the screen with the swipe of a finger. Or push streaming video like Netflix movies from device to screen.
Sending content from your phone to your TV is cool, and going TV-to-phone is even cooler. Just download Samsung's free Smart View app and use the TV View feature to mirror whatever's on the PN51F5500's screen on your Galaxy S3 phone or Galaxy tablet. You can leave the room anytime without leaving your entertainment behind. Pretty sweet.

Average Customer Review(s):
Pros: A great TV, what else can I say.
The TV has a great picture. Was easy to set-up. Easy to use, all works through my cable HDMI box controller. Ziggy at Crutchfield was a great help. Thanks.
Pros: Good picture, good sound, easy to use. Glad I got the Plasma even though Big Box stores in my area said the Plasma TV's are going the way of the Dodo Bird.
Cons: After 2 months, NONE.
My son loves the graphics on his games
Pros: Easy to set up. Great picture.
Cons: Seems Wobbly on stand no problem usually but in California earthquake might break.
This is a superb TV, especially for the price. I have the TV wall mounted in the middle of the wide wall in a rectangular room. This is a setup where plasma is far better than LCD since when watching this TV some of us will be watching it off center where the plasma picture does not fade. Picture quality is beautiful, setup was reasonably easy. Since I mounted it directly on the wall, I did not assemble the stand. The TV was light enough that my wife and I could easily lift it onto the wall mounting bracket. Although I have not yet tried the smart features I am completely satisfied with the picture quality. My one very minor disappointment was that I could not get the remote to control my Dish Network DVR receiver. This ended up not being an issue since I was able to get the Dish Network DVR remote to control the TV.
Pros: A lot of TV for the price, Plasma picture quality, smart TV features, availability of 3D if I get any 3D content to view.
Cons: Remote could not control digital satellite receiver.
Bought this TV for my newly finished man cave. Saw the tech and consumer reviews and thought this would be an excellent choice. Since the only negative was screen glare from natural lighting in rooms, I had no concerns since my basement has no outside lighting. I purchased a Yamaha receiver with ARC connectivity, which the TV has and although it took me a while to figure it all out, both units now complement one another. Just be sure to purchase "high speed" HDMI cables as it won't work without them. The A/V receiver really enhances the minimally adequate speakers built into the TV. Overall, I am very pleased and expect to enjoy many movies and NFL games over the coming years.
Pros: Great picture Easy connections Smart Features are more than adequate.
Cons: Remote can be tedious to use. Set up requires careful review of a very complex, overwhelming online manual. Online manual needs to be more concise and more user friendly. Way too long and no easy way to follow while doing setup of TV. Had to keep laptop nearby to follow directions.
Extremely happy with my Samsung purchase. Picture quality is wonderful. Setup was very easy and Trouble free.I only wish I was as smart as the TV.
Pros: Good quality
Cons: Getting use to the TV format.
Have been in operation only 6 days, tv is now on my network and so far all is well. Have not tried all features yet. When you're 86 you slow down a bit
Pros: picture quality ease of operation is very good for what iI have tried.
Cons: Owener's manual is not very detailed. Will try to download a better one.
great picture, easy set up right out of box. no problem connecting to time warner. replaces 10 year old panasonic plasma that was semi-hd.big difference. smart features an added bonus. remote is very easy to use, love voice command. wi-fi set up almost automatic.
Pros: price, features, picture quality.
Cons: cannot connect wirelessly with apple products ( iPhone, computer ). 3D glasses uncomfortable after awhile.
The TV is great. Very pleased with the picture quality. Unfortunately I have not been able to connect the Samsung remote control so that it controls my cable set-top box. Time Warner and Samsung don't play nice together. I have to use the Time Warner remote control to use the TV guide and change channels and use the Samsung remote to use the Samsung apps like YouTube. Have searched each company's website and talked to a Time Warner rep and still haven't found a solution.
Pros: Great picture
Cons: Will not work with equipment provided by my cable company
Great picture, good sound, menus are fairly easy to navigate. Great value.
Best tv ever with greatest picture quality and son nice to watch YouTube Videos on the big screen. Was funny to find it took a week to find the mute button which is on the side of the remote. There are so many features including the voice activation that you will never tire of the great entertainment.
I did a lot of research before buying and I wasn't disappointed once the television was delivered and installed. We totally appreciate the great picture and functionality. Buying from Crutchfield was also a great idea!
Replaced a 9 yr. old Samsung that gave me great service . This PN515500 meets my expectations for a Samsung product. Not as easy to use as my old Samsung but I guess that's to be expected after 9 yrs. of advancements. Twitter appears on screen at each start-up and is sometimes hard to get rid of. Small controller hard to use with large hands and stubby fingers.
Pros: Great all around performance at affordable price
Cons: Small controller
good color, many features
Cons: some sticking of picture, may be from my dvr
This is the best TV for the money. I bought five for my new house.
Pros: Picture Quality Costs WIFI
love this tv
This is our 2nd Samsung, safer the 1st died after only 3 1/2 years. We were a little reluctant to buy another but Crutchfield assured us this would be a great TV. After only month it seems fine. It is a little confusing to use the remote.it is a lot smarter than we are unfortunately. But Crutchfield as usual comes through with great customer support. The picture quality is wonderful. The difference between HD and regular channels is remarkable. The TV is much lighter than our previous Samsung of the same size. Must be technology. The sound is so much better also. We had purchased a Bose sound system for the previous TV but really don't need it for this one the sound is so great. All in all a wonderful set.
Pros: Easy to put the stand on and get ready to go. Great picture especially in HD. Sound is great
Cons: Remote is a little hard to get used to
This is really our first large screen TV; just not our first flatscreen. I'm a recovering engineer so as most of us do, we tend to agonize over decisions like plasma vs. LCD. That's where the information found on Crutchfield can be very helpful. In any event, the TV arrived as promised in factory packing and it was in great shape. All told, it probably took 15 minutes from "here's your box" to "what channel is that!?" Easy to get started. I have not explored all of the possibilities of this unit, but there is a bunch you can do. LOTS of aps on this thing! Bought the camera as we are planning to Skype; connected to our wireless network right away (not an Apple network) and hasn't looked back since. Picture is excellent and as with most units of this size and price break there is a lot you do with the picture and sound. By the way, the speaker sound is actually really decent; not much on the low end but it's clear and certainly gets loud enough for the hearing impaired without breaking up or clipping. The room is a bit on the darker side with varioius viewing angles which are the main reasons we went with plasma. Mounting it on the wall is easy; doesn't weight very much but with the size, help from the significant other is recommended. This is our second Samsung flat screen and overall, really happy with it.
Pros: Very good picture, very good sound, very flexible and user friendly.
Cons: The touch pad on the remote can take some practice; if the TV suddenly starts changing channels and doing other crazy things, take a look. Someone is sitting on the remote.
Outstanding picture, both 2D and 3D. 3D is better than the in-theater experience. A lot of quality for a reasonable price.
Pros: Price, quality
Cons: Smart TV features are annoying and not useful. Fortunately they can be turned off.
I'd always wanted to try a plasma HDTV. And when my Sony Bravia 41" LCD model began acting up after four years, I ordered this 51" plasma model from Crutchfield. My only problem with the initial setup was mechanical; you need a drill, not a Phillips screwdriver, to get the screws in good and tight. Once that was done and the TV was up and running, I was a little disappointed in the brightness of the display. THEN I opened the menu, selected "Picture," and switched the picture preference from "Regular" to "Dynamic." Oh . . . my . . . goodness. Incredibly rich, vibrant color and depth. (And the glossiness of the screen only adds to the vivid experience.) I stayed up late the first evening, watching a football game just to stare at the picture, not the game. Have also made a few minor adjustments in brightness, etc. to suit my particular tastes. It's been about three weeks since the TV arrived, and I'm still pleasantly shocked every time I turn it on. My only regret is that I didn't order a plasma model four years ago.
Pros: Jaw-dropping picture quality, in my opinion. Convenient "smart" features.
Cons: The swivel stand was a little overcomplicated as far as assembly and attachment to the TV.
Amazing picture, easy to set up, compatable with all my stuff...love it! Initially I was concerned about the glare mentioned in other reviews, but it's barely noticable...
Pros: Picture quality, hands down best I've experienced anywhere.
Cons: The remote took some time to get used to, but that's not a huge deal. Haven't figured out how to truly turn off the TV, it goes into a standby mode still consuming energy.
First of all it was nice to have the Crutchfield team deliver the TV and do the basic set up. We have been using the TV for about a month and the picture is fantastic. I really appreciate the true blacks, but the full range of color is very accurate. I had researched LCD versus Plasma for a few weeks, so I knew I was going to get a nice TV and it was nice that my local Crutchfield carried that model. The 3D is an added bonus. The powered glasses were easy to set up and pictures really did jump off the screen.
Pros: All the pros of a quality plasma TV.
Cons: Not sure it is a real negative; just a fact of life. Let's face it, for anyone over 30, the interface on smart TVs requires a bit of practice. It took a bit of time for me to walk my luddite tending wife thought the system--but she now can navigate, if not like a pro, at least well enough not to be calling me to ..."make this thing work".....
This Samsung plasma TV provides clear pictures in vivid color. The Smart TV feature extends the device's utility as we are using it for OTA and Internet video options. Had a bit of trouble with access of the Smart Features, but this was repaired by replacing the mother board.
Pros: Picture, internet access, plasma smoothness.
Cons: Remote may take a bit of getting used to.
Excellent Product - Works As Advertized
This TV is smarter than I am! Had to replace my Sony that went Tango Uniform after just 3 years... The hardest part was bolt the new TV to the wall. Hookup and setup took about 10 minutes combined... the TV did the rest. It recognized all my components (Yamaha and Sony) and started up on its own. Some minor adjustments to brightness due to the light in the room and I was enjoying this beautiful picture in no time flat! I ordered on a Wednesday and it was here on Thursday! Unbelievable! Cructhfield had the best price anywhere and their customer service remains phenomenal since I stated using them in the early 90's. Awesome!
Awesome Plasma, Have watched 3D, Blue Ray Movies. Very satisfied
Pros: Color & Sharpness
Cons: Generates some heat
Love, love, love the TV..... Great Picture & Ez to set-up & use it's Smart Features
The TV so far is fantastic. It has a great picture. I have it connected to my wired Ethernet and it connects perfectly. The remote is very interesting it has a touch pad on it which made it new and difficult to learn but after about 2 minutes all was good. It has a great learning feature to learn the cable boxes remote. I have not been able to use all of the features yet because I just got it up on the wall.
Pros: Price to features
I have owned this TV for a little over 48 hours and have been pleasantly surprised by it. This TV may be on the cheaper side (at $849.99) but that does not show through on the build quality or picture quality. The remote that came with the TV has a track pad on it and is very similar to the track pad remote that came with the 8000 series plasma's last year but works ten time better. The sensitivity on the track pad is much improved on this remote over last years. I experienced a delay when pushing the TV channel buttons and volume buttons on last years 8000 series plasma TV track pad remote, however the track pad remote that came with this TV has no delay. The picture quality is very nice and the colors look true, however do improve after calibrating. This TV's panel seems to have next to no image retention from TV station logo's or tickers which is very important. I would highly recommend this TV to any friend or family member.
Pros: Price, Picture quality and build quality.
Cons: The smart TV app menu is set to come on when you first turn the TV on by default. Once I found the option in the settings menu to turn this off I was very happy.

600Hz Subfield Motion: The Samsung F5500 series Plasma TV features 600Hz Subfield Motion technology with a fast 0.001ms response time that minimizes blurring of fast motion in sports programming and movie content. Contours are crisper and scrolling text sharper; no matter how fast images are moving. Fast action scenes are both clear with rich deep color detail.
Cinema Smooth: Movies are shot at 24 fps (frames per second); Cinema Smooth is a refined playback process of 24p movies from Blu-ray and Satellite TV sources that accurately converts and displays content originally shot on film at 24fps as compared to the 30fps of DVD and Blu-ray disc. This allows for smoother motion scenes when watching sources shot at the standard movie rate of 24fps.

Audio Extras: The Samsung TV offers a variety of audio adjustments to meet your listening needs.
Digital Audio (Dolby Digital/DTS compatible): The optical digital output terminal will output Dolby Digital/DTS (when available) or 2 channel PCM.The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital/DTS when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the tuner, network apps, and USB ports on the Plasma TV. The optical digital audio output will only output in 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via HDMI or RCA.
ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel in HDMI 1.4 enables a TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to an A/V receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, HDMI inputs, or any analog connected device to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input. The audio from the TV's tuner, network connection, and USB port can pass as Dolby Digital or 2ch PCM. HDMI and analog connected devices will be output as 2ch PCM only.
Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an A/V receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 2 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary.
SoundShare: The TV is compatible with the SoundShare feature found on some Samsung Crystal Surround AirTrack active speaker systems (sound bars). SoundShare makes a wireless connection between the TV and the speaker system via Bluetooth. Once the two are paired, you can control the volume and mute the sound by using the remote control from the TV or the speaker system. If you change the AirTrack from TV mode to another mode or turned off, the TV audio will resume playing from the TV's speakers. SoundShare can be found on the Samsung HW-F450, HW-F550, HW-F551, HW-F750, and HW-F850.

This eliminates the need to copy your photo, video, and music files to a separate USB storage device.

Smart Touch Remote Control (w/ IR Blaster): The new Samsung Smart Touch Remote Control makes it even easier to navigate the television's entertainment sources, menu settings, and Smart TV features. Improved user convenience has been provided so that you can switch the channel and adjust the volume with just your fingertips while focusing on the TV screen. The built-in touchpad removes the need for a mouse when you change the menu settings or search for something on the Internet. You can even activate a virtual on-screen remote controller (w/ numeric keypad, playback controls, and shortcut menu) on the TV which can be operated through the remote's touchpad. It also has a built-in microphone that you can use to give the Samsung TV voice commands. In addition, the remote can be programmed to control satellite/cable boxes, Blu-ray players, and home theaters from other manufactures using the TV's setup menu and the included IR blaster. You can turn on the remote's backlight function for a brief moment with a press of a button.
Note: The Smart Touch Remote communicates with the TV through wireless Bluetooth communication. This means you don't have to point the remote directly at the TV. The remote will need to be initially paired with the TV.
Voice Control: Using the Smart TV Remote's built-in microphone and the voice control function of the TV, your voice is all you need to turn on the Samsung television, navigate menus, and get to your favorite Smart TV content. You can even use only your voice to switch the channel, adjust the volume level, and launch online apps while focusing on the TV screen, which removes the need for the conventional remote control. "Trigger Words" will be displayed at the bottom of screen to use during voice control. To use Voice Control, you must pronounce words and phrases clearly and correctly in the language (English/French/Spanish) you selected. The Voice Control function can be affected by unclear pronunciation, voice level, or surrounding noise. Make sure to speak in a loud (~60dB) and clear voice and reduce any background noise (below 40db) in the room. Use the TV's voice control management test for best performance.
Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC): This TV is enabled with Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC); a feature that makes it possible to control Samsung external devices connected to the TV with ease. With Anynet+, you can use the TV remote control to operate all your compatible Samsung devices that are connected to the TV via HDMI. The TV can also transfer live feeds to your smartphone or tablet. Main features include:
5-Way Joy Stick: The television is equipped with a 5-way "joy stick" like button on the TV's rear-panel that lets you control the TV without the remote control.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'affects' the screen. The screen is highly reflective so it will reflect almost any light in the room. I find that my brain readily filters out these reflections when I'm focusing on what is being displayed on the screen. Also, I have located the TV in a room where I can readily control the light sources. Overall, I'm quite happy with the plasma display. [ CRAIG Feb 19, 2014 ]
true [ THOMAS Feb 17, 2014 ]
This TV works well in nearly all areas of a house. However, the screen is reflective so you might not want to place it near a window or a bright light which could be reflected. I have this TV in the family room and am highly satisfied with the picture. [ STEPHEN M Feb 17, 2014 ]
That is true...I had an plasma tv in this room and replaced with the model you are asking about. It is a great tv for the money and features...but light does affect the screen...I have to adjust my blinds on sunny days..otherwise a great product. [ KENT Feb 17, 2014 ]
We have this TV in a room that is relatively dark. When first set up the screen was not bright enough for me even though the room was not real bright. But, there is a setting that can be changed and when we did this the brightness was good. If I remember correctly the setting had to do with watching movies. The TV screen does reflect light and it can be distracting if there are lights/windows in the room that can be reflected. We got a Samsung TV for my parents which was the same size (51") but about twice the money which claimed reduced reflection and it was true, they have figured out a was to reduce, not eliminate reflected light in these newer televisions. [ MARK Feb 17, 2014 ]
we have installed our TV up on the wall so when we are sitting in our chairs you are looking slightly up at the screen. So I believe this helps cut glare down quite a bit. I don't think it is any worse than any TV screen as far as light and glare. We honestly have been extremely happy with our Samsung TV. [ JACKIE Feb 17, 2014 ]
I have no problem [ RICHARD M Feb 17, 2014 ]
As long as it's BRIGHT DIRECT light on the screen it doesn't bother me. With any light you can see some reflection. But no enough to make unwatchable. It's still a nice, bright, colorful, beautiful picture. beaut it's a nice bright [ NICHOLAS Feb 17, 2014 ]
Hi Tom T, If your question is "does this screen reflect background light no matter how little?" the answer is yes. However, with that said it doesn't make it a bad viewing experience or something that would make us not buy the TV if we had to do it again. [ KEVIN A Feb 17, 2014 ]
Very true. The picture looks great in a darkened room, but during the day(or at night with some lights on) you will see many reflections on the screen. It bothered me a lot so I returned the TV. [ ERNEST Feb 17, 2014 ]
I have not experienced any issues with light. This is a fantastic tv, with superb black levels. [ RICHARD Feb 17, 2014 ]
