Crutchfield: Samsung QLED 4K Ultra HD TVs

Samsung QN55Q7F - Samsung's QLED TVs deliver superior "color volume" -- full color accuracy and saturation no matter how bright the picture gets
Most of the buzz surrounding Samsung's 2017 4K TV lineup is centered on their high-performance "QLED" models, starting with the Q7 series. The 55" QN55Q7F is loaded with innovations, inside and out. But what really matters is that it delivers consistently brighter and more colorful images than last year's models.
Samsung has been using quantum dots in their top TVs for a few years now. For QLED, Samsung refined that approach with metal-based quantum dots that deliver a wider color palette, increased light efficiency, and greater durability.
QLED TVs deliver improved "color volume" capabilities compared to previous models. Color volume is a new way of talking about color performance that factors in picture brightness. Until now, you'd typically lose some color accuracy as the TV's picture got brighter. But QLED maintains full color accuracy and saturation at any brightness level. Colors pop like they do in real life.
With a picture this vibrant, you'll want to feed the QN55Q7F the highest quality signals you can find. Hands down, the best available 4K source is a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Hollywood will release hundreds more movies on Ultra HD Blu-ray this year, and most of those discs will also be HDR-enhanced. There are 4K web streaming options, too, including Netflix® and Amazon Instant Video. Many of their 4K offerings also feature HDR.
But you don't need native 4K content to be knocked out by the QN55Q7F's picture. Samsung's engineers made 4K upconversion a top priority while developing this set's video processing circuitry. UHD Upscaling automatically upconverts any signal to match the screen's 4K resolution. All your current video sources will look better than ever.
Samsung has a nifty way of simplifying hookup, especially if you plan to wall-mount your TV. Instead of connecting your Blu-ray player, cable box, and other video sources to the TV itself, you connect them to the compact One Connect switching hub, which comes in the box with the QN55Q7F. A single super-thin cable connects the hub to the TV, for a clean, uncluttered look. Both the TV panel and One Connect have their own power connections.
When it comes to smart TV features, Samsung's set of streaming video and music apps is hard to beat. And new, improved iOS® and Android® apps will let you receive live notifications from the QN55Q7F and help you locate content.
The smart remote's built-in microphone and the TV's voice control function really simplify everyday use. Your voice is all you need to turn the TV on or off, change channels, or adjust the volume. You can also navigate menus and launch apps, all without taking your eyes off the TV screen.

Pros: One connect connection Black and dark images look amazing Switching between cable, Netflix is fast and smooth Remote control work with all you devices
Cons: TV doesn't come with a lot of accessories if you need to mount tv on wall.
I love my Samsung QN55Q7F. The picture is so clear, that my girlfriend thought she was watching a 3D movie on it. Again thanks to the Crutchfield staff for their help and service. I'm looking forward to purchasing more electronic stuff to go with my UHD TV. Khan aka Ghengis Bloomfield, CT

Pros: This is an excellent TV and has an excellent rating has an Excellent Picture and excellent hdr and speed and streaming is on the Excellent side Keep up the excellent work Samsung you built and excellent product
Cons: N/A Nothing bad about this TV
Easy to mount and hook up. Great picture.
Pros: Mounted in the wall and like the clean look.
The picture is great, but I had trouble running the sound through my Sonos which worked perfectly through my old Samsung. I'm still trying to solve this issue.
Love this TV - picture is crystal clear!
Great picture!!! awesome TV!!!
Well after several weeks I finally received my TV ( Not Crutchfield's fault, carrier damage). The set is nice, good picture and better if you change the settings to your liking. Have not got any of the issues mentioned in these reviews as of yet. I did not see a dramatic change in picture between this and my older Samsung sets but it should be somewhat futureproof. The one disappointing factor is that It came with a black remote, not the metallic remote that's pictured here on Crutchfield's product page. I had read that some were shipped with silver and some with black and was hoping this was silver like shown but not a deal breaker.
Pros: Lots of settings Small edge frame One connect box
Cons: Price Heavy for the size Cannot scroll the guide by page with the remote as far as I know.
very good. picture. tv is great. the only problem i have is the remote control. if i was 20 years old i might think its great, but i am not and i do not. the control on my old tv was far superior. still would would buy this tv again.
This new television is stunning. The picture is just beautiful and in UHD and HDR verything is sharp and literally pops. Gaming is just amazing on this set. The sound is also excellent. Listening to the Blue Danube sounded like we were listening to a high-end stereo. We are extremely happy with this purchase. As always, Crutchfield delivered the television timely, and in perfect condition. Thank you Crutchfield! UPDATED 12/13/17: I purchased a Samsung QLED 55 inch television on 11/7/17. It worked great and I even wrote a glowing review. But, just a couple of weeks later, it stopped working properly- it shut off on its own, I got a black screen after a few minutes. I also saw a screen with many colors. I looked online and saw hundreds of people seeing this problem with Samsung 4K TVs. I rebooted, did the self diagnostics, made sure the HDMI cables were HDMI 2, and have gone back to factory settings. Nothing helped. I spoke with Samsung customer service and they surmised that the one connect box was bad. They just sent me a new one connect box and fiber cable. I have installed both and the TV is fine again. I am not pleased that this problem happened but hopefully this new one connect box and fiber cable will work properly, and forever. Fingers crossed. The one connect box and fiber cable are the brains of the television. If the problem happens again, I will return the television, no easy feat in itself. As always, Crutchfield was wonderful in their assistance.
This TV didn't work from the moment we plugged it in. The picture flickers and goes out, TV powers on/off unexpectedly, occurs with all inputs. Apparently this has been a problem with these TVs for awhile. We have tried all the troubleshooting suggestions and opened a ticket with Samsung. Please do not buy this TV.
Pros: intermittent good picture
Cons: mostly black screenCrutchfield response on 12/5/2017 Bruce contacted our Customer Support team and exchanged for another TV. I've owned a lot of Samsung LCD and LED panels over the past several years, after moving on from Plasma. All have been at the pinnacle of what the technology had to offer... Up to the point that I bought the Q7. Rather than going into extreme detail, the largest disappointment of the Q7 is the artifact and strobing of fast moving objects. There were no settings that I could adjust (outside of employing the soap opera effect) to compensate for the poor performance. The image included with my review shows a golf ball split into 3 pieces which is the strobing I'm referring to. Additionally, I think Samsung is selling a bill of goods with the quantum dot technology as they have opted to move away from OLED (even though it's in all of their phones). In the end, I returned the Q7 for the LG C7 OLED and couldn't be happier. Yes, the OLED has the risk of burn-in, but being a previous plasma owner, it doesn't bother me. I picked up the C7 locally with a 2 year warranty, which does cover burn-in, so I'm covered regardless. One other note on this panel.... Not sure if this is a new thing with Samsung, but the colors on the Q7 were way overblown, as in almost neon looking for brighter colors. I had to turn color way down to limit the effect, but it was still quite glaring. I recommend viewing normal content on this panel before purchase, or make sure there is a generous return policy from where you decide to buy from.
Nice 4K TV.
Amazing picture. Good built in sound
SO far so good great picture dose get a little waem
Pros: Lightweight easy for one person to handle
Cons: no RC plugins
A must have. Completely great.
Awesome picture, installation and setup quite easy.
Best picture I have ever seen on a TV. Definitely better than the OLED TVs.

QLED TV: Samsung's QLED TV combines Quantum Dot Technology with a 10-bit panel to deliver 64x the color expression of conventional TV. That amounts to as much as one billion different shades. QLED TV offers an exceptional viewing experience with an impressive wide range of color shade that come together to create a realistic and accurate on-screen image. Plus, with QLED's wide angle viewing, color stays true from any perspective, so every seat is a great seat.
Ultra HD Premium: The new Samsung QLED TV garners UHDA's ULTRA HD PREMIUM logo which identifies products and services that meet or exceed strict performance levels for 4K resolution, high dynamic range (HDR), and wide color spectrum. Samsung QLED TV can can reproduce 100% color volume and express all colors at any level of brightness, with even the subtlest differences visible at the TV's peak luminance; even exceeding UHDA requirements. This breakthrough is a result of Samsung's adoption of a new metal Quantum Dot material, making it possible for the television to express a significantly improved range of color with much greater detail compared to conventional TVs.
Note: The UHDA is a global coalition comprised of more than 50 member companies - including leading film studios, consumer electronics manufacturers and content distributors - and was established to foster and promote the Ultra HD ecosystem and benefits of Ultra HD technology. The Alliance is also focused on helping consumers build a seamless, integrated and high-quality UHD ecosystem from end-to-end. Premium UHD devices and content will be clearly marked so consumers can easily identify them in-store. To learn more about the UHDA, please visit http://www.uhdalliance.org/.
Q/4K HDR Elite: The Samsung QLED TV combines 4K resolution with HDR (High Dynamic Range) video capability to deliver the ultimate in picture quality with elite contrast and expanded color detail, even in the brightest and darkest areas in any scene. 4K delivers 4x higher resolution than current 1080p high-definition TVs, so you'll see more on TV than ever before with over 8 million individual pixels (3,840 x 2,160) compared to about 2 million (1,920 x 1,080) on your 1080p HDTV. HDR giver greater brightness, color, and detail to the TV's Ultra-HD 4K image. As a result, you get a truly immersive experience for all your favorite movies and TV shows.
- This TV complies with the CTA 4K Ultra High-Definition Connected definition requirements. The trade organization known as the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) is considered an industry authority on engineering standards for consumer electronics in the United States. Visit www.cta.tech for more information.
- Please use a premium high speed HDMI cable with 18 Gbps and above to view 4K HDR content.
Q/4K Elite Black: The Samsung QLED TV incorporates several unique technologies to bring out enhanced detail with deeper blacks, letting you see greater contrast & detail even in the shadows of dark scenes.
Peak Illuminator Pro: The TV's Peak Illuminator Pro lets you see extended shades of colors that pop, with greater dynamic range, improved contrasting detail, and darker scene highlights that come alive.
MR 240 + Auto Motion Plus: The Samsung QLED TV combines its 120Hz native panel refresh rate with Samsung's proprietary MR 240 & Auto Motion Plus image processing technology, which is faster and more responsive than conventional image processors, as it interpolates intermediate frames to smooth out the image. MR 240 & Auto Motion Plus helps to remove blur and judder from scenes with large amounts of rapid movement to provide a clearer picture. MR 240 & Auto Motion Plus reduces blur so that action movies, sports and video games have enhanced clarity. Advanced panel and unique backlight technology combine with proprietary algorithms to reduce the response time and yield a more accurate image reproduction with faster onscreen motion.
HDMI 2.0a Inputs: The Samsung QLED TV is equipped with four HDMI 2.0a inputs (located on the One Connect) to connect to your Blu-ray player, Satellite/Cable receiver, Game Console, and/or AV receiver. Any HDMI input can also be used to connect a PC to this TV. All HDMI inputs are 4K compatible, HDCP 2.2 compliant, and support 4:4:4 color subsampling.
Note: This TV does not contain analog composite or component video inputs.
Picture Controls: You can make the following adjustments for an optimum picture. The TV's picture adjustments can be made for a particular AV input or for all inputs.
Built-in HDTV Tuner: The included One Connect features a built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Clear QAM tuner, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals (up to 1080i); subscription still required to receive cable channels. A single RF-type coaxial input is use to connect an external indoor/outdoor antenna (sold separately).
ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel within the television's HDMI 2 input enables the TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to an A/V receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, or HDMI inputs to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input.
Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an A/V receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 2 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary.
Optical Digital Output: The TV's optical digital output terminal will output Dolby Digital or DTS (when available), as well as DTS Neo 2.5 or 2ch PCM. The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital or DTS when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the tuner, network apps, HDMI inputs, or USB ports.
Note: This TV does not contain any analog audio inputs or outputs.
DTS Premium Sound: The Samsung QLED TV employs DTS Premium Sound processing which will decode DTS-encoded content, such as TV programming, Blu-ray movies, and streaming media, as well as processes stereo content to deliver an optimized virtual surround sound experience with enhanced bass response, clear dialog, and consistent volume levels through the TV speakers.
Equalizer: You can manually adjusts the TV's built-in 7-band EQ (100, 200, 500, 1k, 2k, 5k, & 10k Hz) for a more customized sound; or simply choose from the following EQ Preset Modes - Standard, Optimized, or Amplify.

Wireless Audio Connectivity: The Samsung TV provides wireless connectivity to compatible Samsung SoundConnect soundbar speaker systems and Samsung Multiroom Link speaker systems. You can also wirelessly stream audio from the TV to a set of Bluetooth headphones or a single Bluetooth audio speaker.

If you desire a WiFi connection, then use a dual-band Gigabit wireless-N router (or better) for 4K & HDR streaming. Make sure the Samsung television has the latest software/firmware updates installed.

The "One Connect" box is best for my setup... I wish it wasn't so close to the price of the LG OLED ($100 more). I would have liked to have bought the OLED, but I can't put holes in the wall for all my cables on the wall where the TV will be located-- need the One Connect. [ Tim Feb 02, 2018 ]
I like Samsung TVs and it had the feature I was looking for. [ Keith Dec 31, 2017 ]
Spent hours researching UHD 4K televisions . . . learned more than I needed to know about current realities and future direction of true 4K technology. Felt that this was the best tv for my situation and space. The technical input from the Crutchfield website was key for me . . . way beyond the norm! I appreciate how Crutchfield has always tried to inform the consumer prior to purchase . . . thank you to all of the folks at Crutchfield. [ JERRY Nov 28, 2017 ]

great reviews and the right size for the price range I was looking at. Also I currently have a Samsung Flat Screen I bought from Crutchfield many years ago and it has preformed very well. [ Jeffrey Nov 24, 2017 ]
I saw it in person at Best Buy, the difference in quality between a 4k and a 4k QLED is night and day. Bought through Crutchfield because points multiplier from Chase was higher than Best Buy. [ Samuel Nov 22, 2017 ]
I trust the Samsung brand. This TV rocks! [ Dave Oct 22, 2017 ]
The brightness and the virtually frameless frame are wonderful. [ dale Jul 07, 2017 ]

Yes, the Optical Cable must connect to the Remote / One Connect Box. I have my Onkyo Receiver set up this way and it sounds awesome. No connections are made on back of TV. Enjoy the TV! [ Armando Mar 29, 2018 ]
All the connections are on the remote box, and the remote box is only connection on the tv [ Greg Mar 28, 2018 ]
If you want it to, yes. Through the menu settings you can adjust the picture in a zillion different ways - or for less sophisticated users choose from a selection of pre-configured options. Bottom line - the TV can do whatever you ask it to do. [ Adam Dec 12, 2017 ]
It's hard to compare to previous plasma models, but Samsung's QLED series models include wide-angle viewing technology which ensures linear brightness, color and overall picture quality from any angle. They should be able to help answer any questions you may have and make recommendations. [ Kenny Mar 11, 2017 ] Staff
