Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm extremely pleased with dealing with Crutchfield for our new 3d Samsung with 3D BluRay combo. I was impressed with the Crutchfield tech and customer service people for questions I had along the way. Everything was delivered without even a scratch. Set up took less than an hour and the delivery person even helped me carry a very heavy 52" rear projection, that the new tv replaced, down a flight of stairs.

Pros: Crutchfield service, easy setup and value.

Cons: Although the BluRay player was shipped next day it took UPS 6 working days to deliver. I do not have the name of the delivery company that delivered the tv within 3 working days. The tv sits in an entertainment console and the tv stand it mounts on isn't stable. The TV would most likely fall if console is rocked somehow. Samsung must be aware of this as they recommend a way to attache the tv to a wall with a teather but do not include it with the tv. Must be purchased seperately.

Just plain WOW!!!!!!

Samsung PN60E550 Smart TV

DeanB from Summerville, SC on 2/5/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was in the market for a new TV for the Super Bowl. This model was listed as a great buy, which caught my eye. Prices at local big-box stores weren't competitive, but Crutchfield offered for a good price with free shipping and free 3-D Blu-Ray player. Can't beat that! The TV arrived within 2 days and the Blu-Ray player in just three days! The TV was pretty easy to set up, easy connected to home wi-fi and streams NetFlix and other streaming services effortlessly. My only complaint is that when you play recorded movies back via the USB connection, there is no way to change the language or subtitles of the movie (at least that I can find).

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love the latest addition to my Plasma family. I find it ironic how people are willing to spend so much more for LED and yet give up motion rate and viewing angle to name a few. So much for "old technology". Crutchfield was an awesome experience by the way. I ordered 5 days before Christmas told them no rush and still received it in three days to Reno from VA.

Pros: Smart TV. Great picture, great value

Cons: internet crawls when surfing on the TV (only complaint)

Samsung 60" Plasma SMART TV

Warren P from Rock Hill, SC. on 12/25/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Waited for affordable 3D prices on a 60" Plasma HDTV and I am very pleased. The Plasma HDTV was highly rated over a LCD HDTV for 3D. Although I have not played a 3D movie yet, the Samsung PN60E550 is everything I hoped for. This is a SMART TV with all the bells and whistles and easily attached to my wireless network. No problem attaching the HDMI connections to TV and Receiver.

Pros: Plasma, SMART TV.

Cons: None.

Very Happy

Mike T. from Richmond, Va on 12/10/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I upgraded to this TV from an older 1080i rear projection HDTV, and the difference is like night and day. The color reproduction and black levels are amazing, and the 3D is the extra icing on the cake that makes this set really shine. The samsung apps are nice, and include a few apps still not available on the apple tv (HBO GO). Some reviews mentioned a buzzing noise coming from the TV, and while there is some buzzing, it is not significant, and does not detract from the quality of the set. All of my video sources are routed through my receiver. So I can't comment on the sound quality of the tv, other than to say that while lacking, there was no distortion in the sound when I turned up the volume during my initial inspection.

Pros: Great video performance, cost value, and can be hung in the wall.

Cons: Ok, let's be honest. 3D really is a gimmick, but what a gimmick, and it really does work. Hard to tell if the included 3D glasses are on or off, so battery life may be an issue in the future.

Great TV, good service

Chuck from Kansas City, MO on 12/9/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Only had the TV for a couple of weeks. So far so good. Was a little worried about the BUZZ some people had experienced, but I don't hear anything from mine. The picture quality is great and we are not distracted by the glare on the glass. Inputting information into the Internet apps is painful with the remote. Takes all the fun out of using them.

Pros: Picture quality, price

Cons: Wish there was a keyboard for TV. The Samsung keyboard will ONLY work with the browser, none of the other apps. Still haven't been able to get Pandora to work.

Awesome TV

Pros: Clear Picture Sound Quality Ease of set up Price

Cons: Where do I keep the piano sized box?

Fantastic service. Great TV

Asela from Las Vegas, Nevada on 11/30/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this after reading a report from Consumer Reports. Didn't want to spend the money on an LED and besides Plasma is better for home movies they say. This really is a good quality. Others have faulted this TV saying the glare in a room with lots of light maybe a problem. Not for me. The quality of the Samsung TV is really very good. The controls are very nice. The picture quality really is very very good. Only wish they had an SD card reader and way to hook up a web camera. But maybe I can use the USB port to attach an SD card reader. I think that is possible. But then again at this price I am not complaining. Love the 3D glass and additional ones are only $20 bucks. And they look cool and work very well. Also would have liked a VGA port to hook up my PC. Synching the iPad to watch you tube does not work very well at all. But these are all minor points. Again at this price this really is great value. Great Job Samsung. Crutchfield service was fantastic. Got a call within 5 minutes of purchase. And I liked the fact Crutchfield put every detail on the web site including good photos of the back and front. They even say what's in the box. That was another reason why I choose them even though I could have got this TV for maybe another 50 bucks cheaper. The level of detail and the attention to detail really built my trust in them.

Pros: Picture Quality.3D TV and cool cheap 3D Glasses. Fit and finish. Web Browser.Apps.

Cons: No SD card reader. No web Camera hook up. No PC VGA Port, iPad YouTube SYNCH not great.

Great TV

This is a great TV. Amazing picture, easy to use intuitive menus, attractive. I was worried a 60 inch would be too big for the space but TV itself looks great. I highly recommend.

Samsung has glitches

WD from Plainfield, IL on 11/18/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

One of the main reasons I bought this TV was to watch movies. First let me say that I was very pleased with the picture quality. The sound on this TV is just OK. So much so that I felt that I needed to invest in a good sound bar (problem solved). The one and big issue that couldn't be resolved was that once I got the new sound bar, Netflix started to crash. As it turns out, there is a glitch in this TV that Netflix will crash when sound is channeled to external speakers. (Netflix does work on the internal speakers). When sound is set to an external sound bar, anytime you try to volume up or down, Netflix will crash. A Samsung download patch tried to fix the glitch, but only made it worse. The update just crossed internal and external together, which made the sound bar worthless, as with both sets of speakers on, it gave an annoying echo. And speaking of annoying, if you have a sound bar, anytime you volume up or down, you will get an annoying error code on screen saying the internal speakers are disconnected. EVERY TIME! If you are just planning on watching TV with no sound bar, this TV is great. Even with a sound bar, the error code is tolerable. If you want to watch Netflix and have a sound bar, you better continue to look. It should be noted that Crutchfield was awesome on working with me on this issue.

Pros: Picture Quality

Cons: Glitches with external sound bars and Netflix, 3d glasses are very flimsy.

samsung 60 inch smart tv, with wifi, 3d

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fast delivery, technical support is for life and have been very helpful when I called which wasn`t often, easy to set up had to tweek the picture quality a little but the picture is great, great price I shopped around and this tv was at least $600 cheaper, big difference when it comes to watching football

Pros: I like everything about this TV

Cons: samsung doesnt make a keyboard for this tv which is very helpful when using your wifi to set things up but you can get one after market which I did and it works well I got a wireless one with a mouse works fine

Another awesome Samsung TV

TimM from Fernandina Beach, FL on 11/5/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Our second Samsung Plasma TV, the last one is a 52" and is still in use with no complaints. The picture is brighter on the new set but still very accurate. The smaller Samsung Plasma is viewed at many angles but this 60" is viewed straight on; I was able to really fine tune it. The kids love the 3D movies but I am most pleased with the size of the TV and the stunning picture. The wireless features are cool and the set can directly connect to my laptop or my router, etc. I am still looking for a wireless keyboard and mouse to go with the TV, the remote is not adequate for effectively typing or scrolling when using the browser. The set was delivered in 2 or 3 days. My friends ask me where I got the set and when I say some were unfamiliar - they are accustomed to going to a big box store with a truck and paying sales tax - most looked at me in disbelief when I told them about how excellent this experience was.

Pros: Samsung Quality, Incredible picture, Quick Set-up. Not as heavy as expected (I was able to lift it to the wall mount by myself). Pretty much the ultimate Television - I was prepared to pay more but for the price I got this set, a free Samsung 3D Blue Ray, free shipping, and no sales tax. Overall completely exceeding my expecttions. Family and friends don't believe me when I tell them how much I paid; it looks like top of the line!

Cons: Just that the remote is not adequate for internet browsing (wireless keyboard and mouse are needed).

Excellent TV and superb service

Excellent TV. Picture quality is excellent and it's incredibly easy to use. Setup was nothing. Also, it was delivered in less than 2 business day. Crutchfield did a superb job in getting it to me quickly. That's the first time I've used Crutchfield, but it won't be the last.

Great TV -- But Need to Adjust the Viewing Settings

Rob from Madison, NJ on 9/30/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this TV for my new house because 1) I prefer Plasma to LED--i watch a lot of movies and I do not like how bright the LEDs come across 2) Crutchfield offered a great bundle deal with a free 3D Blue ray player 3) Samsung makes a great product 4) Great price I have had this TV now for about a month and I absolutely love it. I read other reviews about the glare and have to admit that there is some glare when I have my high hat lights on; I expect all other TVs would have similar glare--not worth not buying this TV. Out of the box, the TV's picture looks dark and the colors are dull. First, adjust the settings off of the Energy save mode--I think Dynamic mode works best (really brings out the color). Then go through the other controls and adjust the bright and contrast to your liking. The speakers on the TV are pretty clear but I have hooked the TV up to a receiver and have ceiling speakers--they are great!!! Overall, I think this is a great set for a great price and would recommend it to anyone.

Nice Picture!

Nick from Sandy Springs, GA on 9/12/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far I like the set. The picture is very nice but falls short of mind blowing. It's a very nice set "for the price." I did a significant amount of research and checked with Consumer Reports too and all of the feedback was solid. I think most people would be very happy with this set. I would rate this a 4.5 if I had the chance.

Pros: BIG!! Solid Picture, lots of tuning capabilities, nice on screen menu.

Cons: The glasses they provide for 3D should be consider "starter glasses" you will likely want to upgrade as they are a little small and dim the picture a little to much

This TV is amazing

Bill G from Grapevine, Tx on 8/9/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Out of the box this TV is stunning, mount it on the wall and it blows you away. The depth and clarity of the picture is nothing short of incredible. There motion and flow is like no other TV I have seen. There is no blur or slow down in high action scenes, video games are clear and crisp. I am totally blown away by this TV. The 60 inch is big and it is heavy, so I recommend having a friend help you if you mount it to the wall. I did so much research before I bought this and it paid off because I got what I wanted in this TV. I love this TV!

Pros: Great picture. 3D is incredible. Video Games will blow you away. Connects easily to your entertainment system. Feature rich for the price. Very stylish. Great internal setting setup. Intuitive menus.

Cons: Sound is sounds like it is in a can from the TV speakers. I use my Receiver and surround sound so it is not an issue. Has Neflix and Pandora, but unless you have an output from your TV input into your Receiver you can't hear them for some reason.

Joe from Hendersonville, NC on 6/20/2012

Pros: Very easy to use with great picture quality

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

forget what you have heard about plasma tv's , it's all a lie. to start this tv is in my living room which has 8 bay windows with no curtains just blinds and a very large amount of light comes in the room, with that being said this tv is so bright it puts led tv's to shame. with it's glossy glass screen i cannot tell that there is even a glare. i have had 4 tv's in the last 4 months none of them where plasma till this one. to make this short buy this tv i have done the in house research there in no equal for the money and free extras. so after looking at 15 tv's and 4 in house that were returned i came across this spectacular plasma tv with stunning 3d and all kind of picture settings to keep the most picky person very happy. so if you are not sure about what tv to buy look no further, i dare you to take a chance like i did. i know you will not regret it.

Pros: price, free 3d blu ray player and glasses, picture quality is the best, very good audio

Cons: no such thing with this tv

Real Black Panel: Samsung's Real Black Panel technology provides deeper and darker black levels for bolder hues, higher contrast, and smoother, clearer picture quality. This panel design eliminates the off-angle reflections that cause picture blurring of images and details so images look great at virtually any angle.

Wide Color Enhancer Plus: Wide Color Enhancer Plus allows you to see picture color the way the director originally intended. Witness the entire RGB spectrum brought to life on your screen to bring you exceptionally vibrant, yet natural-looking images faithful to the director's original intent.

600Hz Subfield Motion: The Samsung E550 series Plasma TV features 600Hz Subfield Motion technology with a fast 0.001ms response time that minimizes blurring of fast motion in sports programming and movie content. The 600Hz Subfield Motion technology makes action more life-like and natural looking. Action scenes and sporting events are crisp, clear and picture perfect. 600Hz Subfield Motion flashes a single image up to 600 times a second creating unprecedented picture quality. Contours are crisper and scrolling text sharper; no matter how fast images are moving. Fast action scenes are both clear with rich deep color detail.

Cinema Smooth: Movies are shot at 24 fps (frames per second); Cinema Smooth is a refined playback process of 24p movies from Blu-ray and Satellite TV sources that accurately converts and displays content originally shot on film at 24fps as compared to the 30fps of DVD and Blu-ray disc. This allows for smoother motion scenes when watching sources shot at the standard movie rate of 24fps.

HDTV Tuner: The TV has built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Digital Cable (QAM) tuners, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals.

1080p Resolution: The Samsung E550 series Plasma TV displays all inputs at a resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080). The television's HDMI and component video inputs will accept 1080p (24/60Hz), 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i video signals.

  • HDMI (v.1.4): The Samsung Plasma TV features three HDMI 1.4 inputs to connect to your Blu-ray/DVD player, Satellite/Cable receiver, or AV receiver. All HDMI inputs support x.v.Color, Deep Color, 3D, and CEC. The HDMI 2 input also supports the ARC function. The HDMI 1 input features a 3.5mm audio input for DVI connection (DVI-to-HDMI adapter cable and separate audio cable is required). In addition, any HDMI input can be used to connect a PC to this TV.
  • Component Video: The Plasma TV features a single component video input. The TV's component video input can also be used as a composite video input (480i only).

Full HD 3D (via HDMI 1.4): The Samsung E550 series Plasma TV offers Full HD (1080p) 3D capability. Samsung 3D TV utilizes Bluetooth-enabled active shutter glasses (two pair included) for a full 1080p 3D viewing experience when coupled with a 3D source, such as a 3D-ready Blu-ray player or an HD 3D broadcast from satellite or cable providers (connected via HDMI 1.4). The Samsung E550 series Plasma TV automatically adjusts the overall picture to provide an optimal 3D effect. The Samsung 3D TV also offers a unique feature that allows you to intensify your 2D viewing experience by up-converting it to virtual 3D. In addition, you can adjust the overall 3D perspective (+/-5) and overall 3D image depth (1-10). Samsung 3D TV supports Full HD 3D for 1920 x 2205p (24Hz) or 1280 x 1470p (60Hz) video signals; and virtual 3D for 1920 x 1080p (24/30/60Hz),  1920 x 1080i (60Hz), or 1280 x 720p (60hz) video signals. The Samsung E550 series Plasma TV offers various 3D modes to match your 3D viewing needs.

  • 2D-3D: Changes a 2D image to 3D; you can adjust the focus and depth of the image to maximize 3D experience.

  • 3D-2D: Displays the image for the left eye only.

Note: 2010 Samsung IR 3D glasses and3D glasses from other manufacturers are not compatible. Some 3D modes may not be available depending on the format of the image source. PIP, Auto Program, and some Picture Adjustment functions will also be disabled in 3D mode.

Included 3D Glasses (2 pair): The Samsung E550 series Plasma TV includes two pair of 3D active glasses with built-in Bluetooth. Samsung's 3D Active Glasses (SSG-4100GB) offer a comfortable fit through its lightweight frame and flexible noise- and ear-pieces. The Samsung 3D Active Glasses are powered by a single CR2025 3V lithium coin-type battery (pre-installed). The battery can last up to 150 hours when powered on. The Samsung's 3D Active Glasses provide a viewing range between 6' and 19.5' from the Samsung 3D-ready TV.

Note: If the 3D glasses move outside of the recommended operating distance, the signal from the TV will be disconnected and the display of the 3D glasses will turn off after several seconds. If you lie on  your side while watch TV with 3D glasses, the picture may look dark or may not be visible. When viewing 3D video under fluorescent lighting (50-60Hz), you may notice a small amount of screen flickering.

Audio Features

SRS TruSurround HD: SRS TruSurround HD is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including the internal television speakers. It is fully compatible with all multichannel formats.

SRS TruDialog: This function allows you to increase the intensity of voices over background music or sound effects so that dialog can be heard more clearly.

Sound Modes: You can choose from the following Preset Sound Modes:

  • Standard: Selects the normal sound mode.
  • Music: Emphasizes music over voices.
  • Movie: Provides the best sound for movies.
  • Clear Voice: Emphasizes voices over other sounds.
  • Amplify: Amplify mode is for people who have difficulty hearing.

Equalizer: You can manually adjusts the TV's built-in 5-band EQ (100 Hz, 300 Hz, 1 kHz, 3 kHz, and 10 kHz) for a more customized sound.

Auto Volume: Auto Volume automatically adjusts the volume of the desired channel, lowering the sound output when the modulation signal is high or raising the sound output when the modulation signal is low. This reduces the difference in volume when changing channels. The Auto Volume feature can be set to Normal, Night or Off.

Audio Delay: The Audio Delay function corrects audio/video mismatch, when watching TV or video, and listening to a digital audio output using an external device such as an AV receiver. You can adjust the audio delay from 0ms to 250 ms.

Digital Audio: The optical digital output terminal will output Dolby Digital (when available) or 2 channel PCM. The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital when receiving Dolby Digital surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the tuner on the Plasma TV. The optical digital audio output will only output in 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via HDMI, RCA, or USB.

ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel in HDMI 1.4 enables a TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to an A/V receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, HDMI inputs, or any analog connected device to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input. The audio from the TV's tuner, network connection can pass as Dolby Digital or 2ch PCM. HDMI, USB, and analog connected devices will be output as 2ch PCM only.

Note:  Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an A/V receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 2 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary.
