Crutchfield: Samsung QLED 4K Ultra HD TVs
Crutchfield at CES: Samsung QLED TVs
From Samsung: QLED New Style of TV
From Samsung: QLED TV New Metal Quantum Dot Color
From Samsung: Quantum Dot Technology
Samsung QN65Q7F - Samsung's QLED TVs deliver superior "color volume" -- full color accuracy and saturation no matter how bright the picture gets
Most of the buzz surrounding Samsung's 2017 4K TV lineup is centered on their high-performance "QLED" models, starting with the Q7 series. The 65" QN65Q7F is loaded with innovations, inside and out. But what really matters is that it delivers consistently brighter and more colorful images than last year's models.
Samsung has been using quantum dots in their top TVs for a few years now. For QLED, Samsung refined that approach with metal-based quantum dots that deliver a wider color palette, increased light efficiency, and greater durability.
QLED TVs deliver improved "color volume" capabilities compared to previous models. Color volume is a new way of talking about color performance that factors in color brightness. Until now, you'd typically lose some color accuracy as the TV's picture got brighter. But QLED maintains full color accuracy and saturation at any brightness level. Colors pop like they do in real life.
With a picture this vibrant, you'll want to feed the QN65Q7F the highest quality signals you can find. Hands down, the best available 4K source is a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Hollywood will release hundreds more movies on Ultra HD Blu-ray this year, and most of those discs will also be HDR-enhanced. There are 4K web streaming options, too, including Netflix® and Amazon Instant Video. Many of their 4K offerings also feature HDR.
But you don't need native 4K content to be knocked out by the QN65Q7F's picture. Samsung's engineers made 4K upconversion a top priority while developing this set's video processing circuitry. UHD Upscaling automatically upconverts any signal to match the screen's 4K resolution. All your current video sources will look better than ever.
Samsung has a nifty way of simplifying hookup, especially if you plan to wall-mount your TV. Instead of connecting your Blu-ray player, cable box, and other video sources to the TV itself, you connect them to the compact One Connect switching hub, which comes in the box with the QN65Q7F. A single super-thin cable connects the hub to the TV, for a clean, uncluttered look. Both the TV panel and One Connect have their own power connections.
When it comes to smart TV features, Samsung's set of streaming video and music apps is hard to beat. And new, improved iOS® and Android® apps will let you receive live notifications from the QN65Q7F and help you locate content.
The smart remote's built-in microphone and the TV's voice control function really simplify everyday use. Your voice is all you need to turn the TV on or off, change channels, or adjust the volume. You can also navigate menus and launch apps, all without taking your eyes off the TV screen.
Unsure if your network can handle demanding tasks like 4K streaming? Check out our wireless router buying guide. If you haven't upgraded your hardware in the last few years, a new router will offer big improvements in range and speed.

Received delivery of the Samsung Q7F and had the TV assembled and broadcasting from both cable and wifi within an hour. Couldn't have been any easier, even for me, a guy with limited computer skills. Granted, after ordering, I downloaded the user manual from the Crutchfield web site and read it while I was awaiting delivery. I narrowed my selection down to a few models prior to chatting with Dee at Crutchfields who's knowledge helped guide me to my finalize my selection. Picture quality is excellent, colors are vivid and blur is virtually nonexistent. The TV resides in a bright room and the auto brightness works well through the day as room brightness changes. The only issue I see with the Q7F is that the sound quality begins to degrade with the volume is turned up above a loud speaking voice. Most TV's I have seen are prone to the same issue. A sound bar or other speaker system may be warranted to those who like to listen at greater volumes. I feel confident I made the right decision to go with the Samsung Q7F.
Pros: Simple unpackaging and set up Easy startup and programming. Had TV assembled, programmed to wifi and displaying cable TV programming in an hour. Excellent picture quality
Cons: Sound quality at levels above a loud talking voice volume begins to degrade. I would recommend a sound bar or other alternative speaker assembly if you like the volume louder.
Great tv, it's an addition not a replacement. Don't agree with other's poor review of supplied remote, it's fine. I'm not a fan of the flimsy wire we're stuck with using to connect especially when the supplied cable is NOT in wall rated. I bought the 15 meter cable for my application, and not thrilled that only one supplier set that price. Oh well, as I sit and marvel at it's overall performance including the surprisingly capable internal speakers when I don't bother to power up the surround system in the room, I'd still say money well spent and, as usual, the great deal and customer service from Crutchfield I'd say money well spent.
Pros: Overall value and quality
Cons: Stupid one connect
While the picture and clarity seem pretty good, that is pretty much the baseline standard for any TV you buy today for this price point. However, we have run into issues with the WiFi network dropping and having to be reset on the TV. This blocked access to the Smart TV content like Netflix, Amazon Video, etc. Other WiFi connected devices in the same vicinity experienced no disruption. Additionally, the minimalist remote leaves a lot to be desired. It's not too bad once you get used to it, and assuming all of the devices you have connected to the One Connect are compatible and HDMI. Myself, and other users in online forums, have experienced a lack of compatibility with devices connected via the digital optical output cable. In my case, it is connected to a Sony STR-DG710 receiver. Went through the universal remote setup in the TV config, successfully powered off the receiver during the power test, and completed the setup. However, the remote does not control the receiver's power or volume, requiring us to continue using two remotes. Thus, the term "universal remote" is highly deceptive as others have found out. I contacted Samsung Support and they stated that this issue could not be resolved and that Samsung does not offer an alternative remote.
Pros: Small bezel. Good picture. Thin overall. One Connect keeps wires very discreet.
Cons: Ugly base unless you like chrome. Universal remote is not truly universal and may require you to continue using multiple remotes. Minimalist remote is a difficult transition, especially for older users. WiFi connectivity can be unreliable. Samsung does not offer a quality sound solution to pair with this TV as the soundbars are not as good as the competition.
I have used this TV now for a month and I am pleased with its performance. The key reason for LED over OLED was the screen burn possibility in OLED if you leave it on a digital screen and I do just that most of the day. The Stock Ticker screen is on most of the day scrolling in the same location with the same logos and LED has absolutely no impressions of fading areas. The brightness and dynamic range are both excellent if set in dynamic mode and I leave it there. I expect many years of use and the apps are a nice touch and I could not go back to standard viewing again. Buy as large a screen as you can afford. I was going to get a 55" but stretched for the 65" even though it was outside my budget and now I could not see how 55" would have been satisfying now that I see the 65" differences.
Excellent TV and a super price from Crutchfield, better than the clubs . The Smart hub is a large separate unit and is not part of the TV itself. Maybe not a great choice if you have limited space or want a clean looking install. The product was easy to install and get running. the internal speaks are probably enough for may people.
Pros: Great Picture, good sound from the internal speakers. May not need a soundbar depending on your preferences.
Cons: The smart hub is not part of the TV , it is a separate unit and relatively large. It can be mounted behind the TV on the wall with a separate kit depending on your wall mount. the Hub is easy to hook up and use but again it is large
I bought a cheaper UHD tv but had to return it. This samsung is the 3rd I samsung and is absolutely worth the money, everything says quality about it and picture is amazing.
Outstanding television overall, but it is not without its (hugely) annoying flaws. The good: * AMAZING picture quality. The color accuracy is about as perfect as I've seen. Even with the "standard" (read "not over-the-top" picture mode), this TV's light output is astonishingly high. The picture never looks washed out, and has amazingly vivid and saturated hues, without being garish. * User interface is fast, easy to navigate, and is very intuitive. * Even though the bundled remote control communicates to the TV via Bluetooth, the TV itself has an IR sensor so that you can use aftermarket remote controls. * Almost non-existent bezels. * Easy to install. * Single thin fiber optic cable connecting the "one box" to the TV. * Effortless control over AnyNet devices. The bad: * Just TRY to name an input (doesn't appear to be able to do so). * The included "e-maual" is very difficult to navigate. * On fast horizontally-scrolling material, the top 3" of the screen get COMPLETELY out of sync with the rest of the screen, which makes for a weird, tearing artifact (it does this on ALL sources: Any HDMI source, all built-in streaming apps, etc. I have the set connected via Ethernet cable on an 175 Mbps feed). * The remote control feels cheap, and the "right" button on the directional pad feels crunchy (like there's something broken inside of it). * Connected sources disappear from the source list on the home menu if they temporarily shut o
Pros: In additional to those listed in the review, there is a particularly effective ambient light sensor on the TV. This adjusts the backlight intensity based on how bright your room is. Turning all the lights off DRASTICALLY reduces the light output, and turning on my two parking lot lights (no joke) in my living room increases it to the point where it looks perfect! The TV looks great in all lighting conditions.
Cons: Other than those listed above are with the fiber optic cable. The included 15' cable isn't quite long enough to reach where I need it to, and the price of the 45' cable is obscene. The reason for its price is that each end of the "cable" is actually a PC board with electronic to optical (and vice versa) circuitry. Had they used a standard Toslink connector, it would have made things far more practical. Additionally, the price for the wall flush-mount unit is exorbitant as well.
I've had this TV for about 3 weeks, which is my 4 th Samsung. TV. so product name had a lot to do with my choosing it. I've had to call c.s 3-5 times already and text the techs for issues. They advised me to talk to Samsung directly. I Did and recieved some help advice in adjustments (so I thought). They suggested the standard picture setting with turning off the brightness, contrast at 75, sharpness at 50, color at 50, hdr off, motion off, contrast enhancer off, local dimming standard , color tone standard, and color space auto. It was great for 2 days then it began to dim to the point where it was unviewable. Also in netflix while watching Mad Dogs it got fuzzy then stopped , then got fuzzy again. unviewable. I'm disappointed after having to wait so long and have a picture i can't use properly for a nice sum of money. My extreme excitement turned to almost a failure in judgement and listening to people who said this product is the best. If I'm shown differently ? I will concede gladly to this review but so far not what I expected from Samsung and Crutchfield.
Pros: great sound, colors vivid, one connect
Cons: when on standard picture mode. the whole picture slowly gets dimmer to the point of being unwatchable. blacks are lost in dark scenes. took almost 10 days to get here.Crutchfield response on 12/26/2017 Neil contacted our Tech Support team for help. They will help solve the problem or set up a return within 60 days of purchase. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
The Samsung QN65Q7F is an awesome experience. The colors pop with amazing brightness and accuracy! The style of the set is exquisite! The One Connect Box is an amazing concept that makes all the connections easy and hidden. The set was easy to unpack via the instructions on the carton flap (and a few YouTube videos) and it was also easy to set up on the pedestal provided. All in all the QN65Q7F is a great TV set!
Pros: Easy unpacking; Easy setup; Easy connections; Easy to use; Great Experience; Great Color; Almost perfect B lacks ----GREAT!
Cons: Haven't found any yet!
Picture quality is amazing. We paired it with the Yamaha YA-207 sound bar and couldn't be happier with the overall sound and picture. Used the Samsung mount to mount it over the fireplace on a brick wall. Very easy to install.
Pros: Easy to hook up to sound bar--love the One Connect feature. Outstanding picture.

Note: The UHDA is a global coalition comprised of more than 50 member companies - including leading film studios, consumer electronics manufacturers and content distributors - and was established to foster and promote the Ultra HD ecosystem and benefits of Ultra HD technology. MR 240 + Auto Motion Plus: The Samsung QLED TV combines its 120Hz native panel refresh rate with Samsung's proprietary MR 240 & Auto Motion Plus image processing technology, which is faster and more responsive than conventional image processors, as it interpolates intermediate frames to smooth out the image. MR 240 & Auto Motion Plus helps to remove blur and judder from scenes with large amounts of rapid movement to provide a clearer picture. MR 240 & Auto Motion Plus reduces blur so that action movies, sports and video games have enhanced clarity. Advanced panel and unique backlight technology combine with proprietary algorithms to reduce the response time and yield a more accurate image reproduction with faster onscreen motion.
HDMI 2.0a Inputs: The Samsung QLED TV is equipped with four HDMI 2.0a inputs (located on the One Connect) to connect to your Blu-ray player, Satellite/Cable receiver, Game Console, and/or AV receiver. Any HDMI input can also be used to connect a PC to this TV. All HDMI inputs are 4K compatible, HDCP 2.2 compliant, and support 4:4:4 color subsampling.

Picture Controls: You can make the following adjustments for an optimum picture. The TV's picture adjustments can be made for a particular AV input or for all inputs.
Built-in HDTV Tuner: The included One Connect features a built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Clear QAM tuner, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals (up to 1080i); subscription still required to receive cable channels. A single RF-type coaxial input is use to connect an external indoor/outdoor antenna (sold separately).
ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel within the television's HDMI 2 input enables the TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to an A/V receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, or HDMI inputs to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input.
Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an A/V receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 2 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary.
Optical Digital Output: The TV's optical digital output terminal will output Dolby Digital or DTS (when available), as well as DTS Neo 2.5 or 2ch PCM. The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital or DTS when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the tuner, network apps, HDMI inputs, or USB ports.
Note: This TV does not contain any analog audio inputs or outputs.
DTS Premium Sound: The Samsung QLED TV employs DTS Premium Sound processing which will decode DTS-encoded content, such as TV programming, Blu-ray movies, and streaming media, as well as processes stereo content to deliver an optimized virtual surround sound experience with enhanced bass response, clear dialog, and consistent volume levels through the TV speakers.
Equalizer: You can manually adjusts the TV's built-in 7-band EQ (100, 200, 500, 1k, 2k, 5k, & 10k Hz) for a more customized sound; or simply choose from the following EQ Preset Modes - Standard, Optimized, or Amplify.

Wireless Audio Connectivity: The Samsung TV provides wireless connectivity to compatible Samsung SoundConnect soundbar speaker systems and Samsung Multiroom Link speaker systems. You can also wirelessly stream audio from the TV to a set of Bluetooth headphones or a single Bluetooth audio speaker.

You can enjoy a variety of content from various downloaded applications - such as movies, TV shows, music, news, sports, and weather.
Note: 4K & HDR network streaming requires a network speed of 20Mbps or greater. A wired Ethernet connection is recommended over a wireless WiFi connection for better performance. If you desire a WiFi connection, then use a dual-band Gigabit wireless-N router (or better) for 4K & HDR streaming. Make sure the Samsung television has the latest software/firmware updates installed.
Web Browser: You can surf the Internet on the TV as you would on a PC. You may enter a URL addresses or enter a keyword search. The player will archive your web browser history. Connection Guide: The TV's on-screen Connection Guide lets you view detailed information about external device that can be connected to the televisions. It shows you how to connect various external devices such as cable boxes, satellite receivers, Blu-ray players, game consoles, and more using on-screen images.

Note: The included 16.5' proprietary optical cable is clear in color and super-thin (it is not in-wall rated). It features a proprietary, directional connector on each end; one for the One Connect box and for the TV. You can also purchase a 16.4' or 49.2' in-wall version of this cable (sold separately).

Wall Mounting: The TV has four threaded inserts on the back and comes with four wall-mount adapters for use with an optional wall-mount bracket. The spacing of the mounting holes is 400mm (h) x 400mm (v). The threaded inserts and wall-mount adapters require M8 (8mm) machine screws (not supplied). The included wall-mount adapters must be used when wall-mounting television. The television weighs 54.0 lbs without the stand.
Note: The television is also compatible with Samsung's proprietary No Gap Wall Mount (sold separately), which hangs the TV snug to the wall.
Cable Management: The back of the TV and the included pedestal stand provides cable channels so you can neatly route cords to the TV. There are two covers provided that snap to the back of the TV to hide cable connections and stand attachment, so the TV looks great front to back, whether mounted on the wall or sitting on a stand.

After much research I decided on the Samsung 65" QLED TV as a replacement for a Sharp Aquos that I purchased in 2007. I went out saw this TV in comparison to LG OLED. Sure, the OLED had a great picture but so does this TV and Samsung guarantees no burn-in. It is so bright. I read many reviews by techies including ConsumerReports and many reviews by customers both at Crutchfield and beyond. The path became clear and I purchased this TV backed by Crutchfield's great staff that are very helpful! [ Joseph Nov 28, 2017 ]
The catalog that was sent to me that listed your top three tv choices was very helpful. I did not have to go through waves of research because I am confident in your research and I have purchased items in the past and would not buy from anyone else. Thank you Buzz and Crutchfield [ Cathy B. Nov 27, 2017 ]
Quantum dots are amazing. The Q9 series is nicer, but not enough to justify the price difference. The Q7 seems ideal. [ Stephen Nov 27, 2017 ]
quality, reputation and most importantly SINGLE DISCRETE CABLE CONNECTING TO CONNECT HUB. [ mark May 02, 2017 ]
The only inputs are on the One Connect box. The QLED TV itself has two connectors: one for the AC power cord, and another for the fiber optic cable that connects to the One Connect box. [ Stephen Mar 15, 2018 ]
I believe all HDMI inputs are only on the One Connect. [ JORDAN Mar 15, 2018 ]
There is only one data connection, that is, one connect and the second connection is for power. Nothing else is on any side(s) of TV; that's all it has. You will have to use HDMI from One connect Hub; HDMI is not on TV itself, it's only on its One connect hub. [ Vaishali Mar 15, 2018 ]
There are no connectors on the QLED panel at all except for twq inputs :(1) the fiber optic connector to the One Connect Box and (2) the 120 Volt Power connector. [ STEVEN Mar 15, 2018 ]
All connections are on the one connect box for the Q7F. Then there is the one special optical connection from the one connect box to the TV. There must also be a power cord to the TV. Both of these hide inside the pedestal arm. There are no other connections on the panel. [ Joseph Mar 15, 2018 ]
Just on the one connect box. The only 2 ports I could see on the tv are one for the power cord and one for the one connect wire. [ Brian Mar 14, 2018 ]
Everything needs to be routed through the one-connect. Truth be told, it's quite nice as you can hide all your connections with only a small fishing line esque wire connecting to the TV. The one connect also has been pretty spot on in identifying the device input (e.g. Xbox, Soundbar, AppleTV) [ Matthew Mar 14, 2018 ]
must use the one connect that comes with the TV which has 3 hdmi inputs [ Sharon Mar 14, 2018 ]
One connect only. No other inputs. [ GARY Mar 14, 2018 ]
You have to use the one connect. [ PHILIP Mar 14, 2018 ]
It should control some features so long as the Yamaha receiver supports HDMI+CEC. On my Pioneer receiver (connected via the ARC HDMI jack), the TV switches the receiver input (when a streaming source on the TV is selected) and back to its previous input when the streaming app is closed. The tv remote also changes the volume on the receiver. This is all done via HDMI+CEC; I did not program the TV to control any of my other devices (which it has the capability of doing). [ Stephen Mar 15, 2018 ]
agree [ STEVEN Mar 15, 2018 ]
Yes. The Samsung supports HDMI ARC & HDMI-CEC so, it can provide audio and basic control over compatible receivers connected via HDMI. I hope that helps. My bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan [ Ryan Jan 01, 2018 ] Staff
None what so ever, LCD does not burn in by design. [ STEVEN Mar 15, 2018 ]
No, and Samsung's website says guaranteed for life. It is LCD technology. [ STEVEN Dec 13, 2017 ]
This review explains it and provides guidance on adjusting.Part of Samsung's control comes from a built-in light sensor that's aiming to detect the room's lighting and make changes to the TV's backlight to suit. That should avoid previous complaints about needing different settings based on the time of day, to reduce the backlight in the evening, for example, due to it being so bright. The ambient light sensor controls live in the eco settings in the "general" section. It's worth looking at, too, because you can set a minimum backlight brightness - so if you've blacked out the room and feel the TV is dimming too much, you can change this setting. Note that this is separate from power saving options, it's specifically about adapting the backlight for the room. However, we also noticed that brightness was sometimes changing within scenes, when one character was in shadow and the other in bright conditions, which we assume is because the bright scene was illuminating the room more. Switching off the ambient sensor seems to solve this. It's in dark scenes where you'll notice the effect of that bottom edge illumination and see where this TV is weaker than OLED equivalents in the same conditions. Take a scene where you have mostly darkness and one bright point - perhaps credits or backlit subjects - and you'll see the screen lighten around the width of that highlight from the bottom, spreading up. OLED, as it emits the light from the pixels themselves rather than having to manage the light path from a source at the edge, will give you that clean credit in an ocean of black with more impact. That has an impact on letterboxing bars too: in dark scenes changing from light to dark, you'll notice that the black bars top and bottom can change brightness too. [ PHILIP Dec 20, 2017 ]

It is a LED backlit LCD display. It is very good but not perfect black but NO burn-in at all, ever. [ STEVEN Dec 13, 2017 ]

Correct, 1 power cord for the connecting box and 1 power cord for the tv. [ jeff Dec 11, 2017 ]
Yes, that is correct. One of the power cords is for the TV itself, and the other is for the "One Connect" box. [ Stephen Dec 11, 2017 ]
Yes that's right. The One Connect Box and the TV each have a power cord. [ Joseph Dec 11, 2017 ]
