Exactly what I was looking for. Linked up very nicely with our Samsung TV.

Pros: Easy setup. Nice Remote.

Cons: Not really a con for me but it is not WiFi capable. I already had the space wired so no problem.

Great value

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great value. Purchased it for just the Blu-Ray player for use with my flatscreen. Happy it isn't bloated with everything I won't ever need or use. Beats the heck out of my 1 year old Sony that died after only a few uses (and had all that stuff).

Pros: Price

Cons: Nadda

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this new model to replace another four year old Samsung. The old Samsung was starting to give problems. This new model was on sale at a great price from an excellent company that I have bought from before. This model loads up, so much quicker it's unbelievable. Now a days most companies are being very stingy with their manuals. Same thing happens here but if you have operated a blu ray player before than this one should not be that difficult.

Pros: Very small and compact. Starts and loads quickly. Excellent picture and sound.

Cons: None what so ever.

Great player for a great price

Samsung BD-H5100

Will from Winder, Ga on 10/6/2014

I got this a few months ago. It has not been used much. Seems to work really well.

Pros: A lot of features so much stuff to do. You got a blue ray player and if you have internet you can watch , for a few dollars more Netflix , Amazon and Hulu. It does picture and music and I am still learning... But it is not Perfect

Cons: You would think it would be a WireLess system. But No, it is a wired system. So you have to run a cable. From a DSL box or a Router. You have to have that in order to get on the net. So you can watch Netflix , Amazon and Hulu. Hopefully you got a extra port on your router. For the over priced router cable your going to have to buy. And did I mention you have to buy that cable, it's extra? If your DSL or Router is close your fine. But if it is in another room , Get the wireless one.

Video Section

HDMI ver.1.3: The Samsung Blu-ray player is equipped with an HDMI (v.1.3) output. HDMI simplifies A/V connections by carrying video and digital audio all in one cable. The HDMI output resolution can be set to 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i or 1080p when playing a DVD or Blu-ray Disc; also 1080/24p when playing a compatible BD.

Note: The Blu-ray player provides no analog video or audio outputs.

1080/24p: Movies are typically filmed at 24 frames per second and some Blu-ray Discs use the same frame rate. If your TV will accept a 1080/24p signal, the BD-H5100 can pass the signal in its native form, without converting the video.

HD Up-conversion: With HD Up-conversion, non-HD video is auto-enhanced to bring you near-HD quality. You'll see your favorite titles with greater detail and clarity on your HDTV.

Progressive Mode: The Samsung Blu-ray disc player provides a Progressive mode to improve picture quality when viewing a DVD movie.

Deep/x.v. Color: Deep Color allows more accurate color reproduction with deep color depth. The BD-H5100 must be connected to a Deep Color compatible TV via HDMI for this feature to function. The BD-H5100 also supports x.v.Color; meaning it's ready for x.v.Color discs, such as AVCHD discs (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format).

TV Aspect: You can adjust the video output of the BD-H5100 to match the screen-type of your television. You can choose from 4:3 Letter-Box, 4:3 Pan-Scan, 16:9 Wide, and 16:9 Normal.

BD Wise: BD Wise is Samsung's latest inter-connectivity feature. When you connect Samsung products with BD-Wise to each other via HDMI, the optimum resolution will be set automatically.

Bonus View: The Bonus View feature provides picture-in-picture capability with select Blu-ray Disc titles. You can view addition content (such as director/actor commentary) in a small display window while the movie is playing.

Audio Section

Dolby Digital/DTS Surround Decoding: The BD-H5100 has built-in Dolby Digital and DTS surround processors; multi-channel PCM Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution, and DTS-HD Master Audio are output through the HDMI jack (when encoded on the Blu-ray Disc).  The player must be connected to a Dolby Digital/DTS surround AV receiver which also supports these same formats via coaxial or HDMI input.

  • Dolby Digital Plus: Dolby Digital Plus was developed as an extension to Dolby Digital. The audio coding technology supports 7.1 channel surround sound. Dolby Digital Plus also includes the standard Dolby Digital bit stream and is compatible with all current Dolby Digital processors using the coaxial digital output.
  • Dolby TrueHD: Dolby TrueHD is a lossless coding technology that supports up to 8 channels of multi-channel surround sound for the next generation optical discs. The reproduced sound is true to the original source bit-for-bit.
  • DTS-HD High Resolution Audio: DTS-HD High Resolution Audio supports a maximum sampling frequency of 96 kHz, and 7.1 multi-channel surround. DTS-HD High Resolution Audio has a maximum transmission rate of 6 Mbps, with a lossy compression.
  • DTS-HD Master Audio: DTS-HD Master Audio has a maximum transmission rate of 24.5 Mbps and uses lossless compression (Lossless), and DTS-HD Master Audio corresponds to a maximum sampling frequency of 192 kHz, and maximum of 7.1ch.
Note: Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD are only output via the player's HDMI output.

Digital Output/Surround Mode Chart: You can set the unit's Digital Output (HDMI or Coaxial) to match the capabilities of your connected AV receiver.

Disc Type Audio Stream PCM Bitstream (Unprocessed) Bitstream (Re-encode)
HDMI Coaxial HDMI Coaxial HDMI or Coaxial

PCM Downsampling: This feature lets you choose to have 96kHz PCM signals downsampled to 48kHz before they are output to your AV receiver.

Downmixing Mode: This feature lets you select the multichannel downmix method that is compatible with your stereo receiver. You can choose to have the player downmix to normal stereo or to surround compatible stereo.

Dynamic Range Control: When movie soundtracks are played at low volume or from smaller speakers, the system can apply appropriate compression to make low-level content more intelligible and prevent dramatic passages from getting too loud. This is only active when a Dolby Digital signal is detected.

Digital Audio Output: The Blu-ray disc player features a digital coaxial (RCA) output. The player's audio menu allows you to select the digital audio format that is passed through the coaxial digital output; bitstream (Dolby Digital or DTS) or 2-channel PCM.
