Our take on the Samsung HW-H750

Take one look at the Samsung HW-H750, and you'll know there are some interesting things going on under the hood. Like any sound bar, it will dramatically improve your TV's sound by adding depth, detail, and volume. But the window on this bar's front panel offers a glimpse of something more: a vacuum tube. Usually found in vintage audio gear, tubes are known for their warm, realistic sound. That's just what the 'H750's vacuum tube preamp delivers. Combined with the Class D power amplifier, it ensures your movies, TV shows, and music sound rich and vivid, with minimal distortion.

The start of a multi-room audio system

Most people associate a sound bar's wireless capability with Bluetooth or a separate subwoofer. Sure, the 'H750 has both, but there's another cool wireless feature. This sound bar features Multiroom Link to sync wirelessly with Samsung's Shape™ wireless speakers. If you have a Shape speaker in your kitchen and the HW-H750 sound bar in your TV room, you can play the audio from your movie through both — perfect for when you have to get a quick snack but don't want to miss a word of dialogue. Or, use Multiroom Link to play your favorite song of the moment across different rooms, whether it's for a house party or just doing chores on a weekend. Add Shape speakers to your TV room and watch movies with immersive sound that fills the entire room. Requires the Samsung WAM250 Wireless Audio Hub to connect with other Samsung Shape speakers.

Setup options make thrilling sound easy

The HW-H750 can sit on your TV stand or mount on your wall. You can place the subwoofer just about anywhere. It syncs wirelessly with the sound bar, so you don't have to run long wires to enjoy deep bass response that TV speakers can't deliver. Powerful bass means those action movies will explode with life in your living room. Worried those loud scenes will wake sleeping children or your spouse? The Smart Volume feature prevents drastic changes in volume, either during a movie or while watching TV with annoyingly loud commercial interruptions.

Bluetooth features mean more than just music

Keep your smartphone around when you're near this sound bar. It's got Bluetooth onboard, so you can wirelessly stream music from your device to the bar for rich, full-range sound that fills your room. You can even turn on the sound bar with your Bluetooth-compatible device by simply pairing them. If you have a Bluetooth-compatible Samsung TV, you can connect the HW-H750 to it wirelessly, giving you a little more setup flexibility. That's a lot more Bluetooth functionality than we're used to seeing in sound bars or most other home audio components.

A USB port, too

The HW-H750 has another cool feature not found on many sound bars: a USB port. You can load up a thumb drive with your favorite digital music, pop it in the rear-panel port, and leave it there, so you always have music cued up and ready to play. It will even play FLAC and Apple Lossless files, so you can enjoy CD-quality sound with no compromises. Even with a wall-mounted bar, you won't lose access to the USB port. The HW-H750 includes a USB cable and adapter, so you can use thumb drives without direct access to the rear-panel port.

    Great addition to the TV

Bought for my new Samsung TV. Installation was easy and since it was a Samsung like my TV the system basically found the TV and applied itself. This item is no longer made but I am really glad that I got this one. great addition to the movie experience.

Pros: easy install, good sound works smoothly with Samsung TVs.

    Cons: none

    Great for 15 Months

sanapier from Bakersfield, Ca. on 1/11/2015

On Friday, while watching the WWII movie Fury, my subwoofer lost BT connectivity to the soundbar. It still is not connecting. I contacted Samsung support but of course since it is over a year old, it is out of warranty. They have a service provider where I live but.... Minimum of $100 to even look at it. I have had many Samsung products including my smarthub TV but this really sucks after spending almost this much for what was supposed to be the best soundbar available. I believe I will contact Crutchfield and see if they can help.

    Pros: Great outta the box.

    Cons: Longevity

    Nice, powerful soundbar/sub!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I removed the soundbar and the subwoofer from the box and got it set up rather easy. I connected the soundbar's 'TV OUT' HDMI to the TV's ARC HDMI port and was able to not only have all sound output forwarded to the soundbar, but control its volume and power directly via the TV itself. That's handy. Upon plugging in the subwoofer, it paired up with the unit immediately. Wow, this soundbar/sub absolutely rocks! It can get really loud. So much that the sub can be a bit overpowered, especially when the soundbar is in 'Cinema' mode. I have the sub dialed all the way down to -6 and it still hits hard. The only issue I've run into so far is that sometimes the surrounding noise overtakes dialog when watching a movie. The only negative aspects that I've had so far was that settings don't all save when turning it off & trying to update the firmware. There's a new one on Samsung's website that most likely alleviates bugs. No patch notes though, so who knows? Well, I downloaded the FW, unzipped the file and went to find directions. There are two sets on Samsung's site and they vary wildly! One said to copy a folder to a USB stick and the other says just the update file. Tried it many ways, and none worked. So I took to contacting Samsung via chat. Talk about an awful experience! The tech kept asking if I downloaded the firmware and then asked if I unzipped the file. This was after telling them that I followed both sets of directions and none worked. I felt like a dog chasing my tail.

Pros: Very loud, is ARC-compatible, and has excellent sound quality.

Cons: Sometimes action noise drowns out dialog, not all settings save upon turning off unit, and Samsung's tech support is the worst.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had the unfortunate luck of getting a dud unit shipped to me. It did not work after about 15 minutes of being on and displayed "protection" then went off. I first tried to contact Samsung before getting in touch with Crutchfield - that was my first and most serious mistake. I tried to deal with Samsung's customer service for over and hour and that alone almost made me junk the entire purchase. Thankfully I reached out to Crutchfield and their phone reps were fabulous. If you are reading this before doing business with Crutchfield you will not appreciate the value of dealing with a high integrity reseller until you need to return something. Once the tech worked with me to determine that the product was broken he transferred me back to obtain and return authorization. Two days later I received a working unit. I am still extremely angry with Samsung and may never buy another product from them because of their truly rotten customer service but I am now a life-long Crutchfield customer. Simply said, you can shop for price all day long but finding a company that will not only provide you with a fairly priced product and have stellar customer service is a rare find today. The working version of the product is great but I gave it a 3 star rating because of Samsung's terrible customer service. I will cover my product findings in the Pro/Con section below. Thank you Crutchfield!

Pros: Above average sound. Simple and straight forward installation. Interfaces well with the television working with all of the controls that we use to control the TV (Comcast remote and native TV remote). Well packed (keep the packing material in case a return is needed). Attractive. Short sound bar is well matched with a 40" TV. Wireless woofer is simple to configure and really kicks out the base sounds. Works well in all modes that I have tested.

Cons: Samsung's customer service is so terrible you cannot even imagine. The Samsung tech when asked to transfer me sent me to Netflix's 800 support line. Wire management is a little awkward as you will need to remove the sound bar from the wall to access most of the important connections. Not such a bad deal but if you are debugging a faulty unit taking the sound bar down and putting it back up 20 times will really be annoying.

Vacuum Tube Amp: Combining the warmth of vacuum tubes with the power and precision of digital technology, you get the audio experience of a complex sound system in a simple 2.1 system. Experience natural sound with the combination of Vacuum Tubes and digital audio. Vacuum Tubes bring warmth to the crisp digital sound. Enjoy their ambient glow as the speakers fill the air with your favorite song or scene.

Crystal Sound Pro + Surround Sound Expansion:Crystal Sound Pro amplifies this home audio system with the latest in sound clarity; it filters out distortion and noise so you can enjoy near professional sound quality. With Surround Sound Expansion, your Samsung audio expands the optimal listening area and elevates the height of the sound to the level of the TV screen, so there is no disconnect like with conventional speakers, just richer surround sound that seems like its coming straight out of your TV. Now you can enjoy a realistic, lifelike sound experience with truly immersive surround effects.

Active Soundbar: The soundbar is a self-powered, two-way speaker which provides enveloping virtual surround sound from a single speaker. The soundbar includes a combination of tweeters and midrange drivers housed in an acoustic suspension (sealed) enclosure. The soundbar features a built-in 40 watts x 4-channel amplifier to drive its speakers. The soundbar is designed to be mounted directly below or above your flat-panel HDTV in a horizontal orientation. The soundbar can be placed on a shelf or table-top. The soundbar also includes a wall-mount bracket which allows you to fix the speaker to your wall. The soundbar offers analog audio and digital audio/video connections (including HDMI), as well as Bluetooth connectivity.

Wireless Powered Subwoofer: The wireless powered subwoofer receives its low-frequency audio signal wirelessly from the soundbar via 2.4GHz transmission. There are no cords to connect, except the AC power cord. You can place the wireless powered subwoofer up to 33' away from the soundbar. The wireless powered subwoofer features a down-firing 8" woofer inside a bass-reflex cabinet with a rear-firing port. The woofer is powered by a built-in 150 watt amplifier.

Auto Speaker Calibration (ASC): The included ASC (Auto Speaker Calibration) microphone calibrates the system's active soundbar speaker and wireless powered sub by taking into account the listening distance, speaker frequency range, and room characteristics.

Surround Sound Decoding: The Samsung HW-H750 wireless audio soundbar system employs decoders compatible with Dolby Digital, DTS, and Samsung's Sound Effect modes.

    • Dolby Digital: This is the standard audio signal format used on DVDs, and other purely digital media. This surround technology delivers high-quality digital audio of up to 5.1 discrete channels to produce a directional and more realistic effect.
    • DTS: DTS provides a discrete 5.1 channel digital audio signal for both music and movie content and uses less compression than Dolby Digital for richer sound.
    • 3D Sound Plus: This feature adds depth and spaciousness to the sound. There is a separate 3D Sound Plus setting for movies & music.
    • Sound Effects: The Samsung HW-H750 offers seven different sound effects modes (Music, News, Drama, Cinema, Sports, Game, or Off), depending on the type of content you want to enjoy.

Audio Settings: The Samsung wireless audio soundbar system provides various audio adjustments to customize your listening experience.

    • Smart Volume: This function will regulate and stabilize the volume level against a drastic volume change in case of a channel change or scene transition.
    • AV Sync: AV Sync can be used to help sync video to audio when connected to a digital HDTV. Video may look slower than the audio if it is connected to a digital TV. If this occurs, you can adjust the audio delay time to match the video. You can adjust the AV Sync from 0 to 300ms.
    • Tone Control: You can independently adjust the system's Bass & Treble.
    • Subwoofer Level: You can independently adjust the volume of the wireless powered subwoofer from -6 to +6, using the system's remote control.
    • Speaker Selection: This function enables you to select between listening to audio from your TV or audio from the active soundbar system when connected via HDMI.

HDMI 1.4 Input/Output: The soundbar of the Samsung HW-H750 wireless audio soundbar system is fitted with an HDMI 1.4 input and HDMI 1.4 output. HDMI transmits video and audio signals simultaneously for a simpler connection, and provides a clearer picture and better sound. The unit's HDMI input and output support 3D-video, Deep Color, and x.v.Color pass-through. The HDMI output also supports ARC. You should connect your Blu-ray player or satellite/cable box directly to the HW-H750's HDMI input and then connect the soundbar system's HDMI output to your flat-panel TV's ARC-enabled HDMI input.

    • 3D: The HW-H750 can pass through 3D video from 3D-ready Blu-ray players to 3D-ready TVs, via HDMI (1.4). You will also need compatible 3D-ready glasses and 3D-video content.
    • Deep/x.v.Color: Deep Color allows more accurate color reproduction with deep color depth. The unit also supports x.v.Color; meaning it's ready for x.v.Color discs, such as AVCHD discs (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format).
    • ARC: The unit's HDMI output also supports the ARC function. This allows you to connect your Blu-ray/DVD player or satellite/cable box directly to the system's HDMI input and connect the system's HDMI output to your television for audio from the wireless audio soundbar system or your TV. Your TV must also be ARC compatible.
Note:The With most televisions, the ARC-enabled HDMI input will pass Dolby Digital or 2ch PCM from the TV's built-in tuner, network connection or USB port. However, the ARC-enabled HDMI input can only pass 2ch PCM from devices connected to the TV via HDMI or analog.

Bluetooth Technology: The Samsung wireless audio soundbar system features built-in Bluetooth (v.2.0) for wireless audio streaming and Samsung's new TV SoundConnect function. It also offer simple Bluetooth pairing via SPP or NFC.

    • Simple Pairing (w/ NFC): A single button press pairs your Bluetooth-enabled device with the HW-H750. The speaker also supports NFC (Near-Field Communication) technology for pairing; simply tap your NFC-enabled Android smartphone to the NFC tag on the soundbar speaker for instant pairing with the HW-H750 system (not available for all phones). Once paired, the Samsung HW-H750 will automatically re-connect with your device when in wireless range (up to 33').
    • Bluetooth A2DP: You can wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone (like your iPhone or Android) to the Samsung HW-H750 and enjoy music with high quality stereo sound, all without wires. The HW-H750 does not control your Bluetooth-enabled device; you will continue to control your music from your Bluetooth-enabled device. Song/artist information will also still need to be viewed from your Bluetooth-enabled device.
    • SoundConnect: You can simplify the installation of the HW-H750 by eliminating the need for a wired connection between a Bluetooth-enabled Samsung TV and the soundbar. Simply plug the soundbar and the subwoofer into AC power and follow the simple pairing instructions to wirelessly connect the soundbar to select Bluetooth-enabled Samsung TVs. SoundConnect is only available one select 2013 and 2014 Samsung 3D TVs (LED Series 6400 or higher and PDP Series 7500 or higher).

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Samsung HW-H750.

Analog + Digital Inputs: The Samsung HW-H750 wireless audio soundbar system features both analog (3.5mm) and digital (optical) audio inputs.

    • Optical Digital Input: The Samsung HW-H750 wireless audio soundbar system's soundbar is equipped with an optical (toslink) digital input to connect your television, Blu-ray/DVD player, or satellite/cable box. The digital optical output terminals of most newer flat-panel TVs only send an audio signal in 5.1ch when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from the TV's built-in tuner, network connection, or connected USB device; and will output only 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via HDMI, or RCA (like your Blue-ray/DVD player or satellite/cable box).
    • AUX Input: The Samsung HW-H750 's soundbar features a stereo audio minijack (3.5mm) input to connect your analog television or other analog audio component.

Note: To get the best audio performance out of the Samsung HW-H750, use the system's HDMI input and optical digital input to connect your Blu-ray player and satellite/cable box. Then connect the system's HDMI output to your TV's HDMI ARC input. By connecting your Blu-ray player and satellite/cable box directly to the soundbar system, you'll gain Dolby Digital/DTS decoding from these two sources.

USB Port: You can connect and play music files from external USB mass storage class devices (such as smartphones, MP3 players or USB thumbrives) using the soundbar's rear-panel USB (type-A) port, right-angle USB adapter, and included USB extension cable. The HW-H750 supports USB devices formatted in FAT16/32 with MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV, FLAC, or OGG music files. You can control basic playback functions; such as Play/Pause, Fast-Forward/Backward, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random. The system will also charge (5V/0.5A) your connected USB device.

Software Upgrades: Samsung may offer upgrades for the system's firmware in the future. Upgrades will be possible by downloading firmware upgrades to a USB thumbdrive and connecting the thumbdrive to the soundbar's USB port.

IR Remote w/ Anynet+: The Samsung HW-H750 includes an IR remote control for wireless operation of the soundbar system. Anynet+ is a convenient feature that offers HDMI-linked operation with other Anynet+ Samsung products and HDMI-CEC compliant components; and control those products (up to 12) with one Samsung remote control.

Note: When used with a 2013 or 2014 Samsung LED-LCD or Plasma TV, you will be able to power on the soundbar and control the volume right from the TV's remote.

Wireless Multi-Room App: Using Samsung's Wireless Multi-Room app and one of Samsung's SHAPE wireless network speakers (sold separately), you can create a wireless multi-room audio system which can be controlled from your smartphone or tablet device. Or, you can simply use the app on your smartphone or tablet to control one HW-H750. Simply download Samsung's free Wireless Multi-Room app from the iTunes App Store or Google Play Store onto your Apple iOS device (5.0+) or Android smartphone/tables (2.3+). The Samsung Wireless Multi-Room app lets you connect, group, and control each of your Samsung wireless speakers. In order to use the Wireless Multi-Room app, the HW-H750 must be connected to your home network (either by Ethernet or WiFi).

Auto Power On/Off: The Samsung wireless audio soundbar system offers Auto Power On/Off functionality.

    • Power Link (Auto On): The wireless audio soundbar system is automatically turned on when you turn on your TV or any device connected to the wireless audio soundbar system with an optical cable.
    • Auto Off:  If a TV or any device connected to the wireless audio soundbar system is off and there is no audio signal, the soundbar system will turn off after 20 minutes.
