Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Good sound for what you pay.
Pros: Not to much money, simple controls, and sound good.
Cons: Sub could pack a little more punch but its not bad.
The Samsung HW-M450 sound bar connects wirelessly to compatible Samsung TVs via Bluetooth
Our Samsung TV customers often complete their home theater experience with a matching sound bar, like the Samsung HW-M450. And why not? This bar-and-sub combo connects easily, takes up little space, and delivers satisfying sound that you just can't get from even the best TV's built-in speakers.
This system packs 320 watts of total power. You'll enjoy clear dialogue and strong special effects when watching your shows or movies. The HW-M450's bar is slim and wall-mountable with the included bracket and hardware.
The included subwoofer provides bass reinforcement. It connects wirelessly, so you have flexible placement options — just remember, you'll need to plug it into an AC outlet. Want to add surround speakers for full wraparound sound? Samsung offers their optional SWA-8500S wireless speaker kit.
Never had a sound bar with Bluetooth? Be warned — your TV setup may just become your main music listening area, too. At least that's what happened at my house. Bluetooth just makes it so easy to pull out your phone and play tunes wirelessly through the powerful speakers and sub.
Good sound for what you pay.

Good sound for what you pay.
Pros: Not to much money, simple controls, and sound good.
Cons: Sub could pack a little more punch but its not bad.
The sound bar is wonderful. Fills our 2,000 square foot space with great sound. Was easy to install and set up.
Works perfect for a medium size room. Very satified easy to set up. Bass could be louder but over all its its a good buy.
Pros: Price. Easy set up. Compact.
Cons: Bass could be little louder
Thumbs up from me!! I had not tried a sound bar so this is new for me. I am pleasantly surprised. I have a larger system but this makes a great small room addition. Does well on movies with heavy sound effects. I added the rear speakers and they really add to the surround effects. It would be nice if the Sub Woofer could be a little more active in the mid-range to give the dialogue a little more body/richness.
Pros: Great for it's size
Simple set up instructions. We did have some difficulty during the initial set up where the sound bar would not recognize the wireless rear speakers; however, we called Crutchfield tech support and they solved the problem right away. Love being able to play the songs on my iphone wirelessly over the speakers. It does take a little time to adjust and balance the treble, bass, subwoofer, and rear speakers, to optimize the acoustics of the room but once set up it's easy to use. I would agree that overall the sound is not as loud as I would have expected as I had to put all adjustments into the plus (+) range to get the sound I was looking for. Some of the setting I had to max out at +6 to get the right level. In a large room this sound system may come up short, but it works well in my basement theater area
Great product especially if you have a Samsung TV! Its easy to use, great sound and doesn't take up too much space. I would definitely recommend!
This unit did the trick. Easy to install and vastly improves the sound quality. It's paired to a Samsung SUHD TV and for the price is a good choice.
Pros: Easy Install Right price Great sound relative to price
Was very impressed with the sound and I had my doubts I'm a home theater guy and a sound bar just isn't something I would normally purchase but for my 2nd television in the living room I gave it a try and I'm glad I did.for those who said it's not loud enough that I don't get it works great I get told to turn it down all the time.
Good, but I don't know how much louder than tv speaker it is.
Does the job. We have a large room with a Samsung 55" LED TV. This sound system adds just the right amount of voice clarity and bass to enhance the viewing experience. Perfect for what we needed at the price that worked for us.
Pros: Very easy setup
I was a little disappointed because I was expecting a beeter sound. More HiFi for music. I must give it time but that was my first impression. Also, is very discouraging that I go to another retailer and I found the same Samsung soundbar HW-45C priced 25% less. Is it so different?
Easy setup and works great. Not interested in volume just interested in the quality of sound and this delivers 100%.
Pros: Easy setup
needs to be louder
Very good sound for a compact sound bar/sub combo, and the family member who received it as a gift is quite pleased when using it to stream music videos.
Pros: Smooth, clear audio. Compact. Adequately powered.
Cons: Sub looks plasticy compared to the sound bar. HDMI cable connection is sensitive to disturbance, and we have kittens for that!
Came on time like everything I have ordered from you guys. Sub did not link on it own but just followed the instructions and worked fine. I wish it had a little more bass and the bar works well.
Pros: Easy set up. Cost is low for what you get.
Cons: Does not seam like the bass is really adjustable
I looked long and hard at sound bars in this price range and choose the Samsung. It arrived quickly and packaged well from Crutchfield and I quickly set it up under my home office TV which is also a Samsung. I used an optical cable to make the connection as both of my HDMI slots were being used. The subwoofer quickly connected to the sound bar when first turned on. At first, I was a little disappointed about the level of sound coming from the TV which is connected to a DIRECTV receiver. I often listen to the music channels. But then, I realized that the TV was filtering or lessening the strength of the signal. After listening to the sound bar for a few days, I came to appreciate the quality of the sound versus the loudness factor. But, good news - I connected the sound bar via the blue tooth to my office computer which has a great sound card and listened to Pandora and some of my music files. I get both great sound quality and depth of sound that only comes from cranking up the volume. My wife came in and asked if I had the sound turned up high enough which is wife talk for "turn it down". I've since turned the TV and computer speakers off and only listen to the sound bar. The bar turns on/off automatically when I turn either the computer or TV on/off regardless of the Bluetooth or Digital In source setting. I may explore splitting the HDMI signal before it goes through the TV but for right now, I satisfied with my purchase.
Nice sound bar, good value
Pros: Sounds good, looks nice, easy install. Bluetooth to iPhone quick and painless.
Cons: I use this on outside patio tv. Wish it was a little louder.
It's just ok
Sounds good when it works. Bought it to use in RV. Used with 40 " 6350 Samsung ,Direct Tv through 0pp0 105. I have to play with input on sound bar to get tv picture and sound. Works very well with Bluetooth but so does my Def Tech cube. May work better with simpler setup.
Pros: Not expensive sounds good .
Cons: Difficult to get units to play together
Great sound for the price, I'm not kidding. If you're looking for an afordable sound bar, this is the one. I have a great old Pioneer SX-203 stereo with wired speakers. It dosen't have an audio out so I used the the headphone jack and connected it to the AUX on the sound bar. Now when listening to music from my stereo, the sound bar and woofer added to my stereo speakers really gives an incredible depth of sound. VERY IMPRESSIVE. I'm going to purhase the optional wireless surround speaker kit (Samsung SWA-8500S) to my setup. I highly recommend this unit. May I add that Crutchfield has GREAT customer service and very knowledgeable people. Not easy to get these days.
Pros: Easy hook up. Great sound and the Blue tooth works like a charm.
Cons: For this price, none that I can think of
I purchased this for my wife as a early mothers day gift. I bought it locally from a big box retailer. Super easy to hookup Hooked up with the included tos link optical cable to a 51" plasma tv that still rocks.. Sounds great, and Bluetooth with my Samsung galaxy is a breeze to connect and also jams big-time. I recommend this sound bar to anyone looking for a descent price and good piece of equipment.
Pros: Price, sound, ease of use, looks.
Cons: None so far.

Active Soundbar Speaker: The soundbar is a self-powered, two-channel speaker which provides enveloping virtual surround sound from a single speaker. The soundbar includes two tweeters and two midrange drivers housed in an acoustic suspension (sealed) enclosure. The soundbar features a built-in 160 watt amplifier to drive its speakers (40 watts to each driver).
Wireless Powered Sub: The wireless powered sub receives its low-frequency audio signal wirelessly from the soundbar via 2.4GHz transmission. There are no cords to connect, except the AC power cord. The wireless powered sub features a front-firing 7" woofer inside a bass-reflex cabinet with a front-firing port. The woofer is powered by a built-in 160 watt amplifier.
Surround Sound Decoding: The Samsung HW-M450 soundbar system employs decoders compatible with Dolby Digital (2ch) & DTS (2ch), as well as Samsung's proprietary surround & effect modes.
Audio Settings: The Samsung HW-M450 soundbar system provides various audio adjustments to customize your listening experience.
Mounting Options: The slim, compact Samsung HW-M450's soundbar can be mounted on the wall with the included wall-mount brackets (wall screws not supplied) or simply placed on a table-top, while the wireless powered subwoofer can be positioned anywhere in the room (up to 32.8' away from soundbar) to achieve maximum audio performance.
Optional Wireless Surround Kit: The optional SWA-8500S Wireless Surround Kit (305SWA85KS, sold separately) lets you add rear speakers to the HW-M450 soundbar system without all the wires. Together with the HW-M450, you can create a 4.1 channel system for a true surround sound experience. The SWA-8500S Wireless Surround Kit consists of a wireless receiver module and two rear speakers. The wireless receiver module receives a wireless audio signal from the HW-M450 soundbar, so you don't have to run speaker wire from the soundbar to the rear speakers. The wireless receiver module does have to connect to an AC wall outlet via its power cord and to the rear speakers via two speaker cables.
HDMI Input/Output: The soundbar of the Samsung HW-M450 wireless audio soundbar system is fitted with an HDMI 1.4 input and HDMI 1.4 output. HDMI transmits video and audio signals simultaneously for a simpler connection, and provides a clearer picture and better sound. The unit's HDMI input and output support 1080p and 3D-video pass-through. The HDMI output also supports ARC (Audio Return Channel). You should connect your Blu-ray player or satellite/cable box directly to the HW-M450's HDMI input and then connect the soundbar system's HDMI output to your flat-panel TV's ARC-enabled HDMI input.
Note: With some televisions, the ARC-enabled HDMI input will pass Dolby Digital/DTS or 2ch PCM from the TV's built-in tuner, network connection or USB port. However, the ARC-enabled HDMI input can only pass 2ch PCM from devices connected to the TV via HDMI or analog.
Digital & Analog Audio Inputs: The Samsung HW-M450 soundbar system features both digital (optical) and analog (3.5mm) audio inputs.
Note: To get the best audio performance out of the Samsung HW-M450, use the system's HDMI input and optical digital input to connect your Blu-ray player and satellite/cable box. Then connect the system's HDMI output to your TV's HDMI ARC input. By connecting your Blu-ray player and satellite/cable box directly to the soundbar system, you'll gain Dolby Digital/DTS decoding from these two sources.
Bluetooth Technology: The Samsung HW-M450 features built-in Bluetooth for wireless connection between the soundbar speaker system and your Bluetooth-enabled mobile device for wireless music streaming, as well as a wireless connection between the soundbar speaker and select Samsung TVs with SoundConnect. The HW-M450's Bluetooth function has a wireless range of approximately 32.8'.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Samsung HW-M450.
microUSB Port: You can connect and play music files from external USB mass storage class devices (such as a USB thumbdrive) using the soundbar's rear-panel microUSB port and a microUSB-to-USB adapter (sold separately). The HW-M450 supports playback of a variety of music files loaded onto a compatible USB device formatted in FAT16/32. You can control basic playback functions; such as Play/Pause, Fast-Forward/Backward, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random. The system will also charge (5V/0.5A) your connected USB device. Compatible music files include -
Power Requirements: The active soundbar speaker and the wireless powered subwoofer will both have to be plugged into an AC power outlet, surge protector, or power conditioner. The active soundbar includes a AC power adapter with an attached 58" DC cord and detachable 5' AC power cord. The wireless powered sub includes a detachable 5' AC power cord.
Firmware Updates (via microUSB): Samsung may offer updates for the Soundbar's system firmware in the future. If an update is offered, you can download the firmware update from Samsung's Support website onto a USB thumbdrive inserted in your computer. Once the firmware is downloaded on your USB thumbdrive, plug the USB device into the soundbar's microUSB port using adapter cable (sold separately) for update.
Remote Control w/ Anynet+: The included IR remote control provides wireless operation of the Samsung HW-M450 system. Anynet+ is a convenient feature that offers linked operation with other Samsung components (up to 12) that have the Anynet+ feature, and lets you control those products with one Samsung remote control. To operate this function, you must connect Samsung HW-M450 wireless audio soundbar system to an Anynet+ Samsung TV using an HDMI cable.
TV Remote Control: When the HW-M450 system is connected to a Samsung smart TV released in 2017 or later, the Soundbar can be controlled using the TV's remote control. This function also allows you to use the TV menu to adjust the soundfield and various settings as well as the volume and mute.
Bluetooth Control: The Samsung HW-M450 soundbar system offers an Android compatible Bluetooth remote app and incorporates a Bluetooth Power On feature.
Auto Power On/Off: The Samsung HW-M450 soundbar system offers Auto Power On/Off functionality.

Needed a sound bar to match my 55" Samsung HDTV. This had good reviews and with a $50 discount was a no-brainer! Can't wait to hear it. [ Milan Mar 23, 2018 ]
I liked ease of compatibility with Samsung tv. [ NILESH Mar 17, 2018 ]
I chose the HW-450 over the similar Bose soundbar mostly because it offers HDMI (ARC) AND Optical interfaces where the Bose lacks HDMI. And the wireless external sub was a nice benefit for less than the similar Bose. [ Richard Jan 10, 2018 ]
To be able to use one remote for volume, TV control, and set top box from fiber provider. Already had earlier Samsung soundbar which did not have ARC function provided by new Samsung TV. [ Dana Jan 05, 2018 ]

There is no direct mount arrangement. If you had brackets or a narrow shelf, then yes. The connections are underneath the bar. [ Keith A. Apr 02, 2018 ]
Yes. All the mounting hardware is included. [ James Mar 31, 2018 ]
No. The Samsung powered sound bar models do not offer SACD decoding capability. If you have an SACD player, it should provide the decoding and an analog audio output you could use to connect to the Samsung's analog auxiliary (3.5mm) audio input. [ Ryan Jan 18, 2018 ] Staff
I'm not sure if the HDMI input would degrade the video signal, but if you choose to use the optical audio input I believe it would not affect the video signal. [ Frank Dec 19, 2017 ]
This bar does not have an output for connecting wired or wireless headphones. However, we have other bars and there have been some in the past with a headphone output. Plus, there are other ways to work headphones into a system too. Samsung does not list any 220volt capability in the "Specifications" for the product so, we can only recommend it for use in 120volt applications. [ Ryan May 25, 2017 ] Staff
