Make your time behind the wheel count

Nobody likes to waste time being lost, so the pros at Magellan developed the feature-rich RoadMate 5255T-LM portable GPS navigator to help you travel more efficiently. Not only does it offer a generous 5" screen and AAA content, but you'll discover that new features like traffic camera alerts and Landmark Guidance are real life savers.

Enjoy a handy 5" display

The 5255T-LM guides you through maps of the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, plus 7 million points of interest, on its 5" touch display. Voice prompts announce street names at turns, and lane guidance will ensure that you're in the right place for upcoming maneuvers. Detailed views show you precisely where to go, so you can navigate through complicated intersections. You can choose landscape mode for a better view of the surrounding area, or switch to portrait mode for a more extended view of the road ahead.

The Landmark Guidance option gives you spoken directions based on buildings as well as street names. For instance, you'll hear "turn left at the Exxon station at Commonwealth Drive," instead of "Turn left at Commonwealth Drive." You can look out for easy-to-recognize logos and colors rather than hard-to-spot street signs, and pay closer attention to the road ahead.

Free lifetime map and traffic updates

Don't get slowed down by congestion or out-of-date maps that lead you astray — the 5255T-LM offers free lifetime updates for traffic and maps. You'll get quick feedback on traffic along your route in most metropolitan areas so you can find a better away around the tie-ups, and you'll also get up to four free map updates a year to make sure your navigator stays current.

Traffic camera alerts

Magellan also includes the PhantomALERT camera alert service with your purchase of the 5255T-LM. You'll receive audible and visual warnings of approaching speed and red-light cameras along your route. For an additional fee, you can receive alerts for known enforcement areas (speed traps), as well as road locations with high accident rates.

Magellan RoadMate 5255T-LM with AAA TourBook Listings

AAA TourBook listings help you find recommended destinations.

Helpful road tips from AAA

The included AAA TourBook® features give you instant access to service details and recommended destinations from the leading travel resource. If you're a member, you can quickly access a phone listing for AAA Roadside Assistance™ in case of emergency — you'll also get your exact GPS location so help can find you quickly.

More extra features

Ever get stuck driving around in a city looking for an open parking lot or garage? The 5255T-LM's "Best Parking" feature quickly shows you nearby garages, along with hours of operation and directions to the entrance. And you'll find that route optimization takes the stress out of running errands by showing you the most efficient way to hit multiple spots on the same excursion.

Magellan's OneTouch™ menu lets you save your favorite destinations and searches so you can pull them up without scrolling through multiple screens. You can connect a rear-view camera to the 5255T-LM through its built-in A/V input and use your Magellan's screen to see what's behind you. Magellan does not include a connection cable for the A/V input.

Not Ready for Prime Time

FredR from Denver, Colorado on 6/11/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Magellan RoadMate 5255T-LM I opted for this unit because of the 5" inch screen size (that's all the room I have), the integrated/matched backup camera and the price. The installation went without a hitch. It went downhill from there. I finally uninstalled the system and exchanged it for the Garmin 560LMT. (More about that below). My major disappointments with the 5255-LM 1. Locating the GPS satellites took 2-5 minutes. It also had to intermittently re-acquire the satellite signal on the open road making navigation a nightmare. As a comparison, the Garmin 560LMT had none of those locating problems in the same vehicle and acquired the signal even inside the garage. 2. The back-up camera is simply inferior. Wouldn't you think they'd match a camera with the proper aspect ratio? Instead cars are real wide and people are fat... It also does not offer a distance scale in the image making distance estimation difficult. 3. If you travel anywhere in Mexico, there is currently no map add-on available for this unit. The only pro left is the price. My replacement system (with which I am very happy) is the Garmin 560LMT which offers a camera input that senses if a signal is coming from the camera. The back-up camera that works splendid with the Garmin is a Pyle PLCM18BC (with distance scale) available for around $30. So instead of a poorly performing and ill matched system, I spent about $50 more for an identically size system the performs wonderfully.

Pros: price

Cons: poor signal acquisition, poorly matched camera

Disappointed in Magellan Roadmate 5255

RG from Silver Spring, MD on 9/8/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This review is not a reflection on Crutchfield. The product was delivered in a very timely manner. I am very disappointed in the quality of the product and its display. The contrast is very dim and during the day any little bit of light on the dashboard makes it impossible to see anything on the screen. Had to purchase a visor for the screen (add another $20 to the cost) which helps a little.

Pros: display at night is okay. Camera shows nice picture but even then, the speed of the wireless picture skips around. Nothing good to say about any features. Camera is a very nice feature to have and was one of the main reasons for getting this product. However, you have to go very slow when reversing so the picture keeps up with you.

Cons: Very disappointed with the overall product. Loved the Garmin that I had for 5 years till it went bad. Got this one for the features like lifetime maps updates and traffic reports. Found out later I needed to buy another hardware item to get the traffic reports.

Nice Product

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Does everything advertised reasonably well.

Pros: Auto on and off is very nice. Lots of POI's . Price is reasonable.

Cons: The quality of the backup camera is only so so but usable and replaceable. Light levels are too bright after dark if adjusted high enough for daytime use.

Magellan Roadmate 5255T-LM

SueW from Baton Rouge, LA on 6/17/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was a Father's Day gift. It took only 15 minutes to install and it is very easy to use. The GPS and the backup camera are so great; it was the best gift. It was installed on a truck that is used to pull trailers and boats. The backup camera makes it a breeze to line up perfect every time.

Pros: We just installed it because it is a "Father's Day Gift" so we are still checking out all of the featrues. GPS and camera is great and the price is so reasonable! Easy to intall and use!

Cons: It works best with the GPS in the middle of the truck. Installed on the left side of the windshield driver's side and the reception kept breaking up with the backup camera. Not a big deal; we just moved it by the rearview mirror and it is good to go.

Magellan Roadmate 5255T-LM: Good unit for the price.

CS from DC Metro on 5/27/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was interested in the 5255T-LM because of the wireless backup camera and the affordable price point. After eight months of use I am satisfied overall with the unit. In September 2012, we installed this unit in a 2013 Volvo S60 T5 AWD by tapping into the reverse light wiring right at the tail light. The unit can be delayed several seconds before engaging into reverse. The night vision of the camera is almost nonexistent so think of this camera as a daytime park assist device. The wireless frame rate is slow so there is a noticeable stutter, but if you are backing to a wall or parallel parking the camera does fine. The camera has to mount to a license plate and while this is good for ease of installation it limits creative camera placements. I have used Garmin devices for years and this was my first Magellan. On a trip from DC to a small section of New York City, the Magellan responded very well. The unit also performed well in DC / MD / PA / NJ / NY / VA / OH and around Detroit, MI for the 2013 auto show. The voice prompts were often and when needed. The display of road signs mimicking the actual signs on major interstates provides a nice user experience. The user interface is fairly easy to use, yet it could be a little more intuitive. Once you use it a few times it is fine. Crutchfield's description lists lifetime maps as included but I have not been able to sort out how to do it for free via Magellan's Content Manager software (Magellan wants $79).

Pros: Frequent voice prompts are helpful in unfamiliar areas; easy to read maps; a thin case with an easy to use windshield mount. This is a good unit with the basic features needed to take vacations and trips to new destinations.

Cons: At night, the brightness does not go low enough and in order to eliminate a distractive reflection on the windshield, you will need to either buy or make a hood to block the light emitted from the unit. I would have liked to see longer cables for a cleaner installation; an included hard-wire kit for the vehicle would have been nice. Backup camera nighttime performance is poor but it was a free camera. Windows CE is a bit slow and I had a system failure that required a hard reset.

MaeS from Foster, KY on 5/16/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Magellan Roadmate 5255t-lm is an excellent gps. The screen is big enough to see and not block your view on your windshield. This gps contains all the features of the more expensive gps's without the big price. I would recommend it to anyone.

Pros: Nice size viewing screen. Also like that it informs the driver many times before they need to make the turn. Comes on quickly.

Cons: Would like to see more of the viewing area when backing up. Also would like for the picture to be more clear and not have a stretched look.

I would pass on this one

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not the best GPS i have used, pretty slow to start with.Sometimes the boot up takes more then 2 min. The worst part is the touch screen it's too slow ,wireless camera is not bad but the installation is tricky probably not a DIY ,a night vision would have been a good addition .

Pros: wireless camera

Cons: slow,non responsive touchscreen

ML75 from Huntsville on 5/5/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am being kind with two stars, giving one star for the GPS and one star for the back up camera. 1+1=2. I cannot believe that a company with a name like Magellan would release a product like this for sale. The GPS is extremely slow to reroute, navigating the menu unfriendly and even brand new out of the box did not recognize a road in TN that has been there for five years (major four lane state hwy). Worst back up camera ever, about a two second delay before the screen would come on, and would occasionally exit out of back up mode while still in reverse.

Pros: Good concept.

Cons: Poorly executed the good concept.

George C from Bailey, CO on 4/10/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this unit myself on my 2010 Dodge Ram, which included the backup camera kit. Installing the unit was pretty easy but it took about 6 hours. The vast majority of that time was spent stringing wires and purchasing additional materials to secure the transmitter for the backup camera to the inside of the left hand rear turn signal housing. This probably took a full two hours longer than needed as I tend to be a be of perfectionist. Once installed the GPS worked flawlessly but the operation of the camera left a bit to be desired. The camera often does not come on when the car is placed in reversed or there is a lag of about 3 to 6 seconds even though the signal on the GPS unit shows a solid 5 bars of reception. On ocassion the picture is sometimes lost and takes few seconds for it tro restore itself which could be a problem if using this unit while backing into a tight space. I bought this unit primarily for the backup camera to assist when hooking up my trailer so no big deal if it does not work perfectly but I had hoped it would work better.

Pros: GPS works great and I like the traffic features as well as the traffic light camera alerts. Graphics are much improved over my Magellan Maestro unit I purchased in 2007 that this unit has replaced. If I had to rate just the GPS unit I'd give it at least 4 stars.

Cons: Should provide a 110V charging adapter as well as carrying case to store the unit in when not in use. Backup camera leave a great deal to be desired. If I had to rate just the backup camera unit I'd give it 2 stars.

Not at all happy with this unit. Backup camera does not always connect, especially when I need it the most. The GPS sometimes take ten minutes to find a signal if at all. I can put my smart phone next to it and my phone connects immediately. Well not buy another one and am actually looking for a replacement.

GPS w/camera

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great, backup camera not very good at night in areas with low light. With my Honda Ridgeline the reverse lights shine to the outside. Still looking for the night driving display mode on the GPS. Adjusting brightness is all I've found so far.

Pros: Great GPS. Does not repeat re-calculating.

Cons: Display too bright for night driving. There has to be a night and day auto mode. How do I find it?

works for me

P from Albuquerque, NM on 1/19/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this mostly for the wireless camera. It literally took 15 min to install on my '04 Tundra. The camera works fine, with approx. 2sec delay when shifting to reverse. I like the way the camera adjusts and has a very wide view angle. The GPS unit works fine with no issues finding satellites (perhaps our sky is larger than some big city folks'...). Really, I have had no issues with the device. I'm not thrilled with the Magellan software and update process but otherwise I am very pleased with the purchase.

Pros: camera, gps features

Cons: software

Not a satisfactory navigation system

Martha from Vienna, ME on 12/13/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed the Roadmate on a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe - took about 2 hours. As a backup camera it seems adequate. However, as a GPS it is unacceptable. Like other reviewers, we have found it takes a LONG time to connect to the satellites. Next, it puts our address at least 1/4 mile away. For one trip it wanted us to take a woods road (it was a road 50 years ago), but Google Maps also tends to like that road. But the most frustrating thing is that the ETA for every trip we calculate is inaccurate - always at least 15-20 minutes too long. Have had a Garmin for years and it has always been extremely accurate in calculating ETA. I have contacted Magellan to try to get an explanation and although they have been polite and fairly prompt in responding, their reasons for the inaccurate ETA are totally unacceptable (make sure my clock has the accurate time). Probably won't return it since the primary reason for getting the unit is the backup camera. But I will also have my Garmin with me for all major trips.

Pros: convenient having backup camera and GPS in one unit.

Cons: GPS is not acceptable unit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like a previous reviewer, I was also excited about a GPS with an integrated backup camera (I tow a boat with a Tahoe). The backup camera installed in about 15 minutes and the quality was (just) OK in daylight. I did not find a second or two lag time to be a problem. Now... as a navigation unit... that's another story. The user interface was fine - I actually like the address lookup and prompting compared to Garmin's approach. That's about all I can say positive about the GPS functions. The unit is extremely slow to boot up and never took less than three minutes to acquire satellites - often it was ten to fifteen minutes and on more than one occasion the unit never did acquire satellites. (This was mounted on the dashboard under the rather large windshield of the Tahoe with no tall buildings or obscuring trees around.) One of the few times it did find satellites; it wanted to take us about ten miles out of the way to get home from our local Wal-Mart. The unit would accept my street address (in a well-established neighborhood), but there was apparently no street in front of my house. Leaving the house, the instructions would begin with, "Proceed to [my street name] and continue to [the next corner]." The "dashboard" instructions were confusing - for example, if there was a turn in our route five miles ahead, the indicator would show a straight-ahead arrow and 3 miles rather than the turn arrow and five miles. I returned the unit and purchased a Garmin of the same size with th

Pros: Backup camera

Good idea; needs more work

disappointed from Wichita, KS on 11/30/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had wireless back up cameras and other gps systems in the past, but not all in one unit such as this one. The idea is fantastic but it really needs a little more work. I installed it on a Honda Crosstour (that was a mistake, more than bargained for) since the license plate is on the hatch back, but the backup lights are on rear side panels of the car. Rating the Magellan backup camera; there is quite of a delay (~3 secs) when putting the car in reverse before the view would show up on the gps unit. Plus there are no backup phantom lines within the view, not like that's a big deal. But it would have been nice. The night vision on this camera is horrible; yes I know it doesn't have IR. But at night with the naked eye you can at least see a little bit of my driveway with the street lamps. Through the backup camera, that little bit of light from the street lamp is nonexistent. Rating the Magellan gps unit, I'm not impressed. It takes longer to lock onto satellites when coming out of the garage, a lot longer than my Garmin unit. And the worst of all, the street that I live on is not in the GPS! My street has been there since 2005, and it's still not in the Magellan data base?!?! I didn't have any problems with my Garmin, it showed right up. I called Magellan and they said that it would be added in the next update, but that doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. What are the chances that next time I use this GPS, I would be able to find small streets at all?!?!

Pros: one unit for dual purpose. lifetime map & traffic.

Cons: map not complete with small streets and backup camera needs to be CCD instead of the cheap CMOS for better night vision capabilities.

This one acts like the 3350 I had, great, not like the Garmin I got.

Pros: Major Pro is the ability to cancel individual suggested legs of the route and ease of re-route.

GPS Receiver: The Magellan RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC is equipped with a WAAS/EGNOS-equipped GPS receiver. It receives tracking signals from numerous satellites, updating your position once per second. This receiver provides positioning accuracy down to 3 to 5 meters (10-16 feet).

  • GPS Antenna: The portable navigation unit features an integrated multidirectional GPS patch antenna adding to its sleek design. The first time you use the Magellan RoadMate it may take up to 4 minutes to compute your location under normal conditions. With adverse conditions (not having a clear view of the sky) the time to compute your location the first time can increase.
  • GPS Positioning: Setting a GPS position is useful if you are not getting satellite information quickly because the Magellan RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC has traveled over 500 miles while turned off. Setting the GPS position will allow the unit to compute which satellites are available and calculate the position quicker.
  • GPS Status Screen: The GPS Status screen uses green bars to indicate that the Magellan RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC is using certain GPS satellites to compute the position. Orange bars indicate that the Magellan RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC is trying to lock onto a satellite signal and no bar shown indicates a satellite that is not being tracked. The longer the bars, the better the signal.
Note: Please note that the Magellan RoadMate receiver is a receiver only and does not transmit GPS location signals. Neither the receiver nor the vehicle can be tracked using the Magellan RoadMate receiver.

Map Data: The RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC comes with detailed maps and destinations of the United States (including Alaska & Hawaii), Canada, and Puerto Rico, preloaded onto the built-in flash memory. Map upgrades are available for purchase from the Magellan website ( using the Magellan Content Manager and can be downloaded to the internal memory.

Free Lifetime Map Updates: The Magellan RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC includes free lifetime map updates. Lifetime Maps entitles you to receive up to four map updates per year, for the life of the GPS navigation unit or until Magellan no longer receives relevant map data (whichever is shorter). An Internet connection and Magellan's Content Manager software is required. The updates will be the same geographic map data originally included with your Magellan product. In some instances, the Magellan unit might not have sufficient memory remaining for you to load an update, in which case you will need insert a microSD card in order to expand memory. Lifetime Maps may not be transferred to another person or another Magellan product.

5.0" Touchscreen Display: The unit features a large anti-glare, 5.0" WQVGA touchscreen display which can be viewed horizontally or vertically. The display's brightness can be adjusted for easy nighttime and daytime viewing. With the Auto Night Mode, the screen will automatically change from bright colors in daytime to dark tint colors for nighttime use.

Map Screen: When a route has been calculated, it will be displayed on the Map screen in green with small arrows indicating the direction of travel. The top of the screen displays the name of the street that comes next in your Turn List together with its distance. If you are not in the city in which the next street is, the name of the city is displayed instead. As the route progresses, voice alerts will be used to prompt you of upcoming maneuvers.

  • Map View Options: The portable GPS unit allows you to the following map views.
    • 2D Map: Two dimensional view of map which displays the top of the screen in either the direction of your heading or direction pointing North.
    • 3D Map: Three dimensional view of map which displays the top of the screen in the direction of your heading.
  • Map Screen Modes: There are two unique modes that the Map Screen can be displayed in - Normal and Routing.
    • Normal: In Normal mode, your position is shown on the map along with the time and your speed. As you travel, your position will be updated, giving you a clear view of your position and surrounding streets.
    • Routing: In Routing mode, additional information is displayed, providing you with more detailed information about the route you have selected. In the routing screen, you can view the name of the current street, plus the street name for the next maneuver, POI icons, and distance to next maneuver. You can toggle between the distance remaining to reach your destination, approximate time remaining until the destination is reached, and the approximate time of day to arrive at your destination.

Note: You can set the navigation unit's map to automatically zoom in to the lowest level when coming up to a turn.

Highway Lane Assist w/ Junction View: The RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC will display realistic images of highway signs and arrows that guide you to the correct lane as you approach a highway interchange, giving you a visual indication of which lane you should be in. This makes driving on the highway a lot easier, safer, and less stressful.

Maneuver List (Itinerary): Each line of the Maneuver List screen provides details about the maneuvers in the order that they are to be made. The bottom bar of the Maneuver List screen indicates the distance and time to the next maneuver as well as the total distance computed for the route. The Maneuver List can be modified if you want to exclude one of the maneuvers to avoid traveling on one of the streets listed.

Current Location Screen: The Current Location screen displays approximate address information, the distance from the next and previous cross streets, as well as your latitude and longitude. There is also a compass point in your direction of travel, calculated elevation and speed.

Text-to-Speech w/ Landmark Guidance: The RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC is equipped with Text-to-Speech. As you navigate to your destination, the RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC will announce the names of the street and/or exit ramps that are involved in each maneuver. You'll hear instructions like "In 200 feet, turn left at the Shell Gas Station". You can activate the Smart Volume feature which changes the volume automatically as your speed changes, compensating for road noise. You can select English, French, or Spanish.

Note: The Magellan RoadMate can also sound an audible beep, bell, or chime to notify you of an upcoming turn. You can turn this warning tone off, if desired.

OneTouch Favorites Menu: The RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC features Magellan's exclusive OneTouch favorites menu. The OneTouch menu provides quick access to your home address, emergency services, gas stations and addresses or searches you have stored to the OneTouch menu. 7,000,000 Points Of Interest (POI): The RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC offers 7-million points of interests to help you easily find gas stations, restaurants, ATMs, and more. You can search for POIs by entering the name or by selecting from a list of available categories and sub-categories. If desired, you can choose whether or not you want POI icons to be displayed on the map. Branded POIs display your favorite coffee shops, restaurants, and more by their respective logos. Highway Exit POIs provide a listing of restaurants, gas stations, auto repair shops or hotels near approaching freeway exits.

Address Search: You can use various search tools to find your destination and plan your route. You can search by Address, Address Book, City, Intersection, Previous Destination, or Coordinates.

QuickSpell w/ SmartCity Search: QuickSpell with SmartCity Search narrows your address and city searches, making destination entry easy. To help you make sure you enter in the correct destination, the RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC will automatically correct spelling errors and complete your destination address. QuickSpell with SmartCity search also uses information in the unit's database to limit the keys that need to be pressed, presenting only those which can access information in the database.

Best Parking: Best Parking is another great feature; it makes parking in the city a much easier affair. Best Parking provides parking garage locations with both their hours of operation and the entrance location. Choose the garage that is open and close to your destination. Once you have selected a garage you are guided directly to the entrance.

Customizable Route Method: There are a wide variety of methods you can use to create a route. You can set the RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC to calculate your route by Fastest Time, Shortest Distance, Less Freeways or More Freeways. You can also Enable U-Turns and Avoid Toll Roads for any routing method. You can compare the travel times of each option on one screen.

Multiple Destination Routing: If you're planning a trip with multiple stops, the RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC will allow you to place the destinations in the order you wish, or allow the unit to order the stops for the most efficient route, saving you time and money. You can change the order of stops at any time.

SmartDetour: When you slow down under 20% of the speed limit on a freeway, after a few seconds the Magellan software assumes you are in a traffic jam and displays the SmartDetour feature on the Map screen. Traffic Information

Free Lifetime Traffic Alerts: The Magellan RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC offers Free Lifetime Traffic alerts. This allows the RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC to provide real-time traffic information with no subscription fees. The Magellan RoadMate's vehicle power adapter features a built-in traffic receiver. The Magellan RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC can receive traffic information so as to avoid delays in your travel. The unit's built-in traffic receiver will provide you with detours to help you avoid traffic jams and construction zones. When routing, if a traffic incident(s), slow traffic, or stopped traffic will delay your arrival, the traffic icon on the unit's Map screen will display the computed delay due to traffic in the red box below the traffic icon. When the traffic icon indicates a delay, you can select to avoid any or all of the traffic incidents along your route. The navigation unit will then calculate an alternative route.

Note: Traffic warnings will not work if the unit is not connected to the included power adapter or you are using a different power adapter.

Traffic Camera Alerts: Traffic Camera Alerts, by PhantomALERT, are included at no extra charge for one year. Receive audible and visual warnings of red light and speed cameras along your route. This is verified crowd source data that you refresh on your unit by the free Content Manager from Magellan. You can even become one of the many reporters on the street by submitting your own discoveries or rating the reliability of the alerts you are shown. Premium content is available for an extra cost which includes blackspots (high accident areas), school zones, and dangerous intersections.

Wireless Backup System

Wireless Back-Up Camera System: The Magellan Wireless Back-up Camera System transforms the RoadMate 5255T-LM+BUC into a rearview monitor. While the Magellan GPS navigator guides you when driving, this wireless back-up camera system provides a measure of safety as you begin and end your trip. The Magellan Wireless Back-up Camera System includes a rear-view camera with integrated license plate mount, a wireless transmitter, wireless receiver, and 12-volt power adapter.

Note: The wireless back-up camera has a range of approximately 45'. Great for most cars, vans, trucks, and small trailers.

Rear View Camera: The rear-view camera provides a mirror output, so whatever the driver sees on the right side is what is on the right side of the vehicle. The back-up camera employs a CMOS imaging sensor with a resolution of 640 x 480. It provides a wide angle view of 120° horizontal x 100° vertical, so you can see people and objects coming into view behind your vehicle. The rear-view camera mounts to your vehicle's license plate and connects to the included wireless transmitter.

Wireless Transmitter: The back-up camera mounts on your vehicle's license plate with the 2.4GHz wireless transmitter located in the truck or other protected area of your vehicle. The wireless transmitter is weather proof and water resistant (IPX4 rating). The back-up camera attaches to the transmitter via a DC cord and composite video cable. The transmitter also requires a power/ground connection to your vehicle's reverse light circuit. The wireless transmitter will wirelessly transmit the back-up camera's video signal to the system's wireless receiver.

Wireless Receiver: The 2.4GHz wireless receiver mounts at the front of your vehicle, next to the Magellan RoadMate GPS navigator. The wireless receiver connects to the Magellan RoadMate GPS navigator via a 3.5mm A/V connector. The wireless receiver then receives the back-up camera's video signal wirelessly via the connected wireless transmitter and displays the signal on the connected Magellan RoadMate GPS navigator's screen.

12-Volt Power Adapter: The Magellan Wireless Back-up Camera System includes an 12-Volt/cigarette lighter power adapter to power the wireless receiver and the Magellan RoadMate GPS navigator. The 12-volte power adapter features two mini-USB (type-B) connectors.

License Plate Mount: The Magellan Wireless Back-up Camera includes an integrated license plate mount that easily attaches to your vehicle's license plate. The back-up camera features a dustproof and waterproof housing (IP67 rating) to protect it against wet & dusty conditions. The camera can be adjusted downward to 45° for truck and SUV mounting.

Note: The license plate mount has two mounting holes spaced between 6.75" to 7.375" apart.

Auto Rear-View Mode: When you put your vehicle in reverse, the Magellan GPS navigator will switch from navigation mode to rear view mode, allowing you to see what is behind you; including children, pets, and toys. In order for this feature to work, the wireless transmitter's power and ground wires must be connected to your vehicle's reverse light circuit.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: I am not aware of anything that we will be carrying in the immediate future that will do that, but if something comes to market I'm sure our Merchandise group will check it out and see if that is something we want to carry. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Mar 20, 2014 ]  Staff
might be an upgrade rather than an update? [ ROB  Mar 26, 2014 ]
The GPS comes with the maps installed, and then whenever there updates to the maps you can download them free from the internet. There is nothing else to buy. New updates come out several times a year and they will notify you when they are available. Most GPS's come with free updates, other wise they would be out of date quickly. [ GERALD  Mar 25, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: That Magellan Roadmate GPS comes with lifetime map updates at no extra charge so this customer isn't paying for them per se, and the reason for the updates is that roads change and in time, you will appreciate the updated, accurate information going forward. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Mar 25, 2014 ]  Staff
