Our take on the Magellan RoadMate 9250T-LMB

Want a well-rounded navigator with more extras than you thought possible? Magellan's RoadMate 9250T-LMB portable GPS navigator brings together some of Magellan's previous exclusives — a 7" display, recommended AAA content — with newer breakthroughs, such as traffic camera alerts and Landmark Guidance that'll announce relevant landmark names for upcoming maneuvers.

Guidance you can count on

Want a well-rounded navigator with more extras than you thought possible? Magellan's RoadMate 9250T-LMB portable GPS navigator brings together some of Magellan's previous exclusives — a 7" display, recommended AAA content — with newer breakthroughs, such as traffic camera alerts and Landmark Guidance that'll announce relevant landmark names for upcoming maneuvers.

A big 7" screen

If you enjoy squint-free guidance, the 7" color touch display of the RoadMate 9250T-LMB could be great news for your eyes. You'll be able to check out the navigator's maps of the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, plus 7 million points of interest, with ease. You'll also be treated to voice prompts that say street names at turns, and detailed views of complicated intersections with lane guidance to keep you on the right path.

You can choose landscape mode for a better view of the surrounding area, or switch to portrait mode for a more extended view of the road ahead. The Landmark Guidance option gives you spoken directions for upcoming maneuvers according to buildings along with street names. For instance, you'll hear "turn right at the next Shell station," in addition to "turn right on Mulberry Avenue." You can look out for easy-to-recognize logos and colors rather than hard-to-spot street signs, and cruise with confidence.

Free lifetime map and traffic updates

A lot of things can derail your trip before you get to your destination, but two of the worst are congestion and incorrect maps which lead to bad directions. Magellan's fixed those with free lifetime updates for the 9250T-LMB. You'll get rapid reports on traffic along your route in most metropolitan areas so you can find a better away around the jams, and you'll also get up to four free map updates a year to make sure your navigator's up to date.

Traffic camera alerts

Magellan also includes the PhantomALERT camera alert service with your purchase of the 9250T-LMB. You'll receive audible and visual warnings of approaching speed and red-light cameras along your route. For an additional fee, you can receive alerts for known enforcement areas (speed traps), as well as road locations with high accident rates.

AAA TourBook listings help you find recommended destinations

Helpful road tips from AAA

The included AAA TourBook® features give you instant access to service details and recommended destinations from the leading travel resource. If you're a member, you can quickly access a phone listing for AAA Roadside Assistance™ in case of emergency — you'll also get your exact GPS location so help can find you quickly.

More extras like Bluetooth® and other safe enhancements

You can make and receive hands-free calls with your compatible phone through the 9250T-LMB. The navigator's Bluetooth SafeTexting feature consists of a list of pre-written text messages you can send to incoming texters at the push of a button from the navigator to let them know that you're driving and you'll get back to them when it's safe to do so.

You'll see the posted speed limit shown on the screen as you drive, and you can even set reminders to alert you when you're exceeding it. And you'll find that route optimization takes the stress out of running errands by showing you the most efficient way to hit multiple spots on the same excursion.

Magellan's OneTouch™ menu lets you save your favorite destinations and searches so you can pull them up without scrolling through multiple screens. You can connect a rear-view camera to the 9250T-LMB through its built-in A/V input and use the navigator as a screen. Magellan does not include a connection cable for the A/V input.

big screen

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a nice and very easy product to use. The only thing I don't like about it is the screen is too big and creates a big blind spot.

Pros: Easy to set-up and use.

Cons: screen size creates big blind spot

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Keyboard has long delay when entering letters: very annoying. Route recalculation is slow compared to our Garmin. Mechanical mount is large and clumsey, but sturdy; it's too large to hide in my center console. Menu features are user-friendly, the display is compatible with polarized sunglasses. The large display is great and voice instructions were clear.

Pros: Large and clear display which is compatible with polarized glasses. Voice instructions were clear and enunciated. Menus are user-friendly and intuitive. I liked the menu system better than our new Garmin's menues. Display features and information boxes are customizable (a big plus).

Cons: Slow recalculations and very long delay when keying in addresses from the touch keyboard. Its mechanical mount was clumsey and large. My Garmin mounts didn't fit the Magellan's ball socket, but this isn't Magellan's fault.

Nothing like Garmin

Cons: The back up camera wasn't clear and blue tooth was not clear. No one could here me.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The GPS seems to be ok, I am still getting used to the GPS. I have used tomtom in the past and the Magellan is a completely different. I got the 9250 with the magellan back up camera for my truck. The GPS unit and camera do not seem to work the best together. I think the bluetooth in the GPS unit and the wireless back up camera have conflicts. When I am backing up the GPS display, that should be showing the camera feed, switchs between the camera feed and the GPS feed. After reading more online reviews of the camera and GPS I found out that this is not that uncommon. I found that turning off the bluetooh hepls the issue a bit. I hope that there will be an update from Magellen to fix this issue. The only other issue I have with the GPS is that the arm for mounting the unit is very long about 3 inches and can extend out to about 6 inchs. For mounting the unit to a dash mount the arm is just way to big.

Pros: Cost.

Cons: Does not seem to work well with the Megellan wireless back up camera.

one main let down

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

great service from Crutchfield, only drawback is for such a large screen, why doesn't the Blue Tooth display Caller ID pictures? I would like to see the next model communicate more with state DOT, I cross Snoqualmie Pass daily and it would be nice to see acurate information on rolling slow downs, blasting, and incorporate weather for the pass as well. R&D should incorporate a 911 emergency signal for travelers that are outside cell phone service afterall it is satelite based....Large Screen is great but kinda hard to incorporate into a Jeep Wrangler.

Cons: No Caller ID PICTURES

Item was a replacement for a defective unit. Once it was charged it operated as I expected. It is very easy to set up and use.

Pros: THe large screen is a positive as well as the free traffic alerts and maps for life. The Phantom Alerts is a good addition also.

Cons: The Phantom Alerts should be included free for life as well.

Magellan 9250T

Moe in MO from MO on 12/26/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This, the 9250T, is my third Magellan GPS unit. I own a 1700 and 5045 which have served me well for several years I find the 9250T to be a step backwards towards the 1700. The accuracy of this unit is not as good as my older 5045. When going through a intersection/interchange the 5045 was spot on. Not so with the 9250T. It might be spot on with one intersection while 100 feet off on the next. Maps on my 9250T are more inaccurate than the older 5045. I compared them side by side while driving. I do like the speed camera ahead feature along with some other minor upgrades in the 9250T. The 9250T isn't a bad GPS, it's just that I got spoiled by the 5045. I was expecting the 9250T to be a newer upgrade to my 5045. My several weeks of testing has proven other wise.

Had Magellan 1700 and upgrade to this one. I am very happy with the traffic report and the fact that I can upgrade maps.

Pros: Easy to use, easy to read because of the size

Cons: If not in the stand cord falls out.

I bought the gps mostly for the back up camera. Seems to work as designed. Its a little slow on the update of the turn by turn. I could make the turn before it would show on the screen.

Pros: Big screen, good display

Cons: Not impressed with the back up camera picture quality

Very satisfied with this GPS. Best features- 7" screen, crisp data entry, turn prompts and lane guidance. Tried Garmin Nuvi and TomTom and. They were nowhere near as convenient to use.

Cons: Would like to see time and distance to next several exits on interstates displayed including rest areas.

Navigation Features

GPS Receiver: The Magellan RoadMate 9250T-LMB is equipped with a WAAS/EGNOS-equipped GPS receiver. It receives tracking signals from numerous satellites, updating your position once per second. This receiver provides positioning accuracy down to 3 to 5 meters (10-16 feet).

  • GPS Antenna: The portable navigation unit features an integrated multidirectional GPS patch antenna adding to its sleek design. The first time you use the Magellan RoadMate it may take up to 4 minutes to compute your location under normal conditions. With adverse conditions (not having a clear view of the sky) the time to compute your location the first time can increase.
  • GPS Positioning: Setting a GPS position is useful if you are not getting satellite information quickly because the Magellan RoadMate 9250T-LMB has traveled over 500 miles while turned off. Setting the GPS position will allow the unit to compute which satellites are available and calculate the position quicker.
  • GPS Status Screen: The GPS Status screen uses green bars to indicate that the Magellan RoadMate 9250T-LMB is using certain GPS satellites to compute the position. Orange bars indicate that the Magellan RoadMate 9250T-LMB is trying to lock onto a satellite signal and no bar shown indicates a satellite that is not being tracked. The longer the bars, the better the signal.
Note: Please note that the Magellan RoadMate receiver is a receiver only and does not transmit GPS location signals. Neither the receiver nor the vehicle can be tracked using the Magellan RoadMate receiver.

Map Data: The RoadMate 9250T-LMB comes with detailed maps and destinations of the United States (including Alaska & Hawaii), Canada, and Puerto Rico, preloaded onto the built-in flash memory. 7.0" Touchscreen Display: The unit features a large anti-glare, 7.0" WQVGA touchscreen display which can be viewed horizontally or vertically. The display's brightness can be adjusted for easy nighttime and daytime viewing. With the Auto Night Mode, the screen will automatically change from bright colors in daytime to dark tint colors for nighttime use.

Map Screen: When a route has been calculated, it will be displayed on the Map screen in green with small arrows indicating the direction of travel. The top of the screen displays the name of the street that comes next in your Turn List together with its distance. If you are not in the city in which the next street is, the name of the city is displayed instead. As the route progresses, voice alerts will be used to prompt you of upcoming maneuvers.

    • 2D Map: Two dimensional view of map which displays the top of the screen in either the direction of your heading or direction pointing North.
    • 3D Map: Three dimensional view of map which displays the top of the screen in the direction of your heading.
  • Map Screen Modes: There are two unique modes that the Map Screen can be displayed in - Normal and Routing.
    • Normal: In Normal mode, your position is shown on the map along with the time and your speed. As you travel, your position will be updated, giving you a clear view of your position and surrounding streets.
    • Routing: In Routing mode, additional information is displayed, providing you with more detailed information about the route you have selected. In the routing screen, you can view the name of the current street, plus the street name for the next maneuver, POI icons, and distance to next maneuver. You can toggle between the distance remaining to reach your destination, approximate time remaining until the destination is reached, and the approximate time of day to arrive at your destination.

Note: You can set the navigation unit's map to automatically zoom in to the lowest level when coming up to a turn.

The Maneuver List can be modified if you want to exclude one of the maneuvers to avoid traveling on one of the streets listed.

Detours are calculated using the same routing method that was used to create the route. A list of alternate routes will be displayed.
