An affordable multimedia hub for your car

Blaupunkt's San Jose 120 shines as an affordable touchscreen receiver that doesn't skimp on features. The receiver's 6.2" display lets you quickly access your music and movies on DVD, CD, microSD cards, and USB drives. Built-in Bluetooth® provides hands-free calling and wireless audio streaming convenience. Its dual video outputs and dual camera inputs also let you expand the video options in your ride.

Wireless streaming and hands-free calling

The San Jose 120 lets you stream music from any Bluetooth-equipped device that's paired to the receiver, including music stored on the phone and from Internet radio stations like Pandora® and Spotify®. For hands-free calling clarity from your paired phone, Blaupunkt also built in a sensitive Bluetooth microphone into the receiver's faceplate for a simpler installation.

Awesome video options

You can view movies and video on the 6.2" screen when your car is parked, and it also works as a great display for system and song info. If you want to share the fun, you can install rear video screens and play movies on the go to keep the backseat posse happy. Two camera inputs let you install front- and rear-view cameras for easy viewing right from the receiver's screen. Blaupunkt even included a wireless remote to control the show.

Audio goodies

For your music fix, you can slide in just about any disc, even a recordable DVD or CD loaded with MP3 or WMA files. The USB port, microSD card slot, and auxiliary input offer plenty of other ways to check out all your media. The San Jose 120 includes six EQ presets for refining your sound. If you want some added impact to your tunes, a full set of preamp outputs makes it easier to connect amplifiers for your speakers and a subwoofer.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

#1. Poor quality control, the main fuse in the back of the unit had been crammed into the fuse holder, while one leg was miss-aligned. Caused a random lose of power. Had to pull the unit and repair the fuse holder. #2 Unit schematics show a front and rear camera input, but only has front camera operation.

I am so glad I took a chance on this receiver. The only thing that held me back was actually the low price, haha. I worried it must be too good to be true. I'm an android guy so this receiver had exactly what I was looking for. I have tons of music and movies on SD cards and USB sticks that I have in other cars so I wanted something that wold accept these media sticks and its not easy to find aftermarket head units that do this. This unit works great! Its important to note that the complaints about the touch screen only being responsive to the back of your fingernail was true when I first fired up this unit. But then I entered the "setup" screen and noticed there is an option to train the touch screen to your touch. It takes about 15 seconds as the receiver has you touch a few different targets on the screen and PRESTO... responds perfectly to the normal pad of your finger from then on. I also had ordered a parking brake bypass (NOT to be unsafe and watch movies while driving) but ended up not needing it. Grounding the parking brake wire to the frame of the receiver worked. Nothing at all needed. Overall this receiver has exceeded my expectations!

Pros: SD Card reading USB stick reading Great sound Outstanding price Plenty of inputs

    Cons: no HD radio

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased and installed this for a friend in a 1999 Ford F250. Receiver has more features than he will ever use but he loves it none the less. Mainly chose this because it was a low cost solution for a vehicle ordered from the factory without a radio. Has features of more expensive models but at a budget price and it sounds great with his stock speakers. He could not be happier. Radio came with everything I needed to install.

Might want to take a pass on this one

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice looking unit, remote, only volume works, no button to easily select preset stations. Have to touch a little tiny heart on screen, it shows all programed stations, doesn't allow you much time to select station then you have to select again. The dial to adjust volume so small, i don't have big hands. Again poor execution on remote. Mostly CD or DVD controls.

    Pros: Cost

Cons: Remote poor execution, No easy access to presets, No easy install with Crutchfield wire harness

    Steering wheel controls don't work

Joe from Dyer, IN on 9/22/2017

    2005 Honda Odyssey
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit because the steering wheel controls are built in, and were compatible with my vehicle. After several attempts, with the help of tech support, I was unsuccessful to get them to work properly. Only 3 out five controls worked properly, the others only did volume up. I reinstalled the factory radio and the steering wheel controls worked perfect again. Exchanging for a different head unit (non-touch screen, but in the same price point) that will require a steering wheel control adapter, but at least they will work. I did not have this unit installed long enough to review the sound and function. Another note, the wiring harness adapter that Crutchfield supplies with this unit does not have corresponding wires for the factory steering wheel control wires, therefore you still have to splice into the factory vehicle harness to make connection.

Pros: Price, looks, touch screen was responsive

Cons: Steering wheel controls didn't function properly, after several attempts of different wiring with the help of Crutchfield tech support.

Bang for the buck winner, clean install sound is good, easy to use. Has some nagging components, touchscreen isnt responsive as good as todays smartphones. It responds best to the back of the finger nail, jamming with the front of the finger tip does respond. Remote is basically useless, barely picks up the signal half the time... but thats why i bought a deck with a volume knob so thankfully it has that... Cant beat it for the price

    Good beginner radio.

    2007 Chevrolet Avalanche
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used this radio for 2 weeks. For the price it is exactly a "get what you pay for". It is a very good radio with good sound. My issues you may or may not get. I could not get the swc setup to work properly (2007 avalanche). The screen is washed out and could barely see it in full daylight. And I had to reset the radio twice within the time period as the controls would not respond, no touchscreen, and wouldn't turn off. So I presume I had a faulty one. Again, great radio for the price for touchscreen and media player, but I decided to return and spend another $60 to get one that the sec controls would work, better screen, and more options.

Pros: Price, brand name, great sound.

Cons: Lack of options, swc hit or miss, screen washed out.

    Think twice before buying this

You get what you pay for. After waiting for over a month to get this item, I was really disappointed when I installed it. Too many cons to this radio than pros. I'm definitely returning it comes Monday.

Pros: The price I guess :(

Cons: Radio keeps shutting off by itself every now and then when I'm driving. Volume knob is kinda hard to work at times when driving. The touchscreen is not as responsive.

Steering wheel controls are not the best

Jason from Newtown, VA on 9/14/2017

    2004 Pontiac Aztek
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's a great budget radio. I bought the radio for the price point first. Steering wheel control was the second best reason for me. I had some issues getting it to work with a 2004 GM, but a call to technical support cleared up the issue and now it works near perfectly. The biggest issue I have with the radio is there is no "play" feature to map back to my steering wheel, so that button is not functional. SWC are very simplistic. I like the idea of having a rear and front camera, for parking in city spaces, however because not all of my steering wheel controls can be transferred to the San Jose, I am a little upset with the purchase.

    Pros: Features and inputs

Cons: Steering wheel controls need a little "polishing"

A lot of radio for a fair price. I had to trim a support bracket to install it in my 2012 Ram but it looks great. Flawlessly streams media from my phone via bluetooth and works great for hands free calling also.

Pros: You won't find many radios, at this price point, with so many features.

Cons: Menu selection is a little slow.

Great unit easy installation and a good looking radio for the money the sound that come's out it's crazy clear and crispy still using factory speakers and it sounds great haven't installed my new speakers which I also got from crutchfield. the only thing that had me a little tight was that I never got the wiring harness and the installation kit I remember when I ordered a car stereo y you always came with everything you needed and now I had to go buy what I needed to get it installed I don't know why I didn't get it my speakers came with the wiring harness why not the unit. I will keep buying from crutchfield. thank you crutchfield keep the good work.

Installed Easily, Sounds Great, Easy to use!

Robert from Princeton, NJ on 9/7/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great little head unit. Crutchfield was very helpful during the install and a shout-out to TYLER for giving me the confidence to do it myself - the install was easy! He included everything I needed in the package and the install took me about an hour. The harness took the longest and that was only 15 minutes. I am very happy with my new head unit and the capabilities it has.

Pros: Nice clear screen for DVD's and Movies on the SD Card! The unit (despite what the manufacturer states) plays more formats on the SD card than specified. This unit DOES INDEED play FLAC - which is a huge bonus in my book. The touch screen is intuitive and I love the simplicity of the controls. The unit has many connections available and since I didn't need the navigation, this unit was the right unit for me.

Cons: At times, the touchscreen requires that you press a little harder than you normally would for a phone or a tablet. Also, the unit doesn't put out enough power for my new Morels, but Crutchfield already warned me of this and I am in the process of purchasing a new amp. That should clear it up. Also When I rip DVDs and place them on the SD card, the audio format is Not Supported. This could be how I am ripping the DVDs, but I am investigating further. Other MP4's work just fine, so it's my fault!

    Great Unit, Great Price!

So far, this system is working great. Installation was a breeze. The system is easy to navigate and understand and the sound is really good for a less expensive unit. The push button is a little touchy sometimes but I am adjusting to that and it is working great. I would definitely recommend this unit!

Pros: Easy to install, easy to use, very good sound quality.

Cons: Touch screen a little touchy at first but easy to get used to.

    Great Deal

    1999 Toyota Tacoma
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, not a bad unit. This unit was back ordered for almost three weeks but well worth the wait. I purchased this product because it was the only unit that I could find to replace the factory unit in my 1999 pickup truck. I needed a touch screen to use my reverse backup camera, and bluetooth to comply with local cellphone laws while operating a motor vehicle. The removal and installation instructions supplied by Crutchfield were "spot on," and the wiring adapter harness they included really made the installation a breeze. I've only operated this unit for a couple of weeks with the following observations so far.

Pros: The Blaupunkt San Jose 120 is a budget friendly unit that's really loaded with features. You won't find a comparable unit with this many features in the same price range-period!

Cons: Cons: I do not care for the screen appearance. I prefer a clean and simplified screen with no clutter. The menus on the San Jose 120 can be a bit confusing and difficult to navigate until you become familiar with them. Also, when my cellphone contacts downloaded they did not list in alphabetical order.

Cons: Manual is horrible. No directions/instructions

Cheap and easy way to get Blutooth and other connectivity

Jeremy from New York, NY on 9/5/2017

    2008 Honda Fit Sport
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price you cannot go wrong. Micro SD card, USB, CD/DVD and Blutooth covers any input and functionality you could think of. The sound is very good through stock speakers, clearer and better control of EQ. There are a few things I wish were better such as the small volume knob positioned very far left which makes it hard to easily scroll the volume up and down. I decided not to use the final trim piece of the Metra kit to make it easier to grab by inching it. Also put a little foam circle on it to make the know taller and more tactile. Other gripe is the remote doesn't have good range at all, unless you are less than 3 feet from it and pointing EXACTLY at the IR sensor it doesn't work. I didn't try a new battery though, maybe the included one is weak? Overall I am very happy with it for this price, and maybe even if it were double the price.

Pros: Price, massive connectivity, nice screen, good sound.

Cons: Volume knob small and kinda hard to use, remote doesn't work even inside the car.

    Great unit

Ben from San Jose, CA on 9/4/2017

    2006 Mazda MX5
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You get what you pay for here. As most have stated the features are nice and it works fantastic paired to an iPhone 6 streaming typical iTunes/Spotify/podcast. The unit does not trend metadata song titles via Bluetooth but not a big deal. Hands free calling is clear and operates well audio wise while face timing. A few key notes, this HU was installed in a Mazda MX-5 Miata with SWC buttons, thankfully the unit is prewired for this and did not require an adapter, however there were no instructions on which wires requires tapping into. Thankfully google diagrams and crutchfield helped solve that challenge. The audio vol dial is too small and adjust volumes levels by 1 notch despite rotating the dial quickly. Whoever manufactured the unit must have been color blind because the interface color "orange" is actually more green, and white is amber. Again, not a big deal but a definite upgrade to an otherwise outdated OEM HU. Blaupunkt was a German company that sold out to China (not surprising), and outsourced their product there. This is a Chinese unit with a German name meaning blue dot or point.

    Pros: Dollar to features

Cons: Wrong interface colors to label Small audio knob

    Good head unit

Jennifer from Louisville, KY on 9/2/2017

    2003 Pontiac Vibe
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a really nice head unit for the money. Touch screen is responsive and bluetooth calling works great. My only complaint is the remote does not work. After spending time installing this, I don't want to remove it to ship it back for a replacement remote. It would be great if Crutchfield would replace just the remote.

    Pros: Great for the price

    Cons: Remote does not work

The radio is a definite must have, I have fallen in love!

Luis from New Orleans, LA on 8/28/2017

My 17 year old son bought this to upgrade the radio in his truck. He installed it all by himself (I was impressed) and loves the graphics. We sat in the truck and listened to music, impressed and thrilled about how great this product! We are really enjoying this unit so far. It allows us to maximize the stereo system in the vehicle to the full extent.

This is an excellent stereo, it's got everything I could want.

Tony from Warren, MI on 8/28/2017

Wow, not much else to say! I have installed possibly hundreds of car stereos in my lifetime and have all different brands and this one by far is top notch. The radio works flawlessly with my galaxy note 5 through USB. The Bluetooth is of amazing clarity and even shows song names on the head unit. DVD's are amazingly clear too.

It looks sleek and it runs smooth without any issues.

Harry from Naperville, IL on 8/27/2017

Great radio. Had it professionally installed in my motor home. Much more user friendly that any other radio that I have tried, especially for a senior citizen. The Bluetooth works well with iPhone and for connecting other devices. Easy to use for wife and me, and the grand kids enjoy all the features. Also had a technician installed it and that works very well. Instructions for set up and use are well written and easy to follow. The power output for the speakers was much higher and better than the radio it replaced.

Unit went above and beyond my expectations

Wendy from Pearland, TX on 8/26/2017

To start off, this head unit is amazing. Touch screen is perfect and the sound is the best of its kind. The screen definition is awesome for a car stereo. I love all the customization possibilities with this unit. Bluetooth connects automatically with no problems, I can leave my phone in my pocket and listen to music via Bluetooth with no issues, it plays flawlessly for me.

    Great radio, amazing sound!

Joe from Glendale, CA on 8/26/2017

I love this stereo. It updated my 20 year old truck, making it a joy to drive again. Works very well, syncs to my iPhone easily when I start the car. The radio has plenty of features and I really like the hands free calling and Bluetooth connectivity.

Nick from Lancaster, PA on 8/26/2017

    2014 Scion FR-S
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is definitely a "you get what you pay for" head unit. Software is clunky and does not feel premium at all. Id like it more if this head-unit defaulted to BT menu and

Pros: Build quality is pretty good. It doesnt really feel cheap to me. All the ports in the back are nice Comes with a remote Screen quality is decent as well but I do not have a backup camera hooked up. Touchscreen functionality is actually good. Dont expect it to feel like your new cell phone but when I touch the screen it goes so I cant complain. inputs for front and rear cameras easy setup

Cons: Software is pretty lacking and does feel on the "imitation" or "cheaper side" here. Its clunky and somewhat hard to navigate. Bluetooth: It connects to my phone just fine but does not auto-play my music! This is frustrating as I have to navigate to the BT menu in the head-unit or get my phone out of my pocket and hit play. One of the main reasons why I love BT is that it just auto-plays. May return this unit within the 60 day period if I cant accept this! Not a huge con in my book but it does take more than a few seconds to boot up to the menu. The equalizer settings are pretty much useless IMO. Im not an audiophile but its just difficult to use. Only able to change treble and bass. I dislike the volume knob for one reason: It does not match the speed at which its turned. Turn it to

Price and features.[ Mark  Aug 31, 2017 ]
I chose this receiver because it looks like an excellent upgrade for my 2002 Ford Ranger pickup. It has most of the features of the more expensive units at a significantly lower price. The interface appears to be straightforward and intuitive. I have had several Blaupunkt units in the past and have always been satisfied.[ Scjckt  Aug 27, 2017 ]
