Two USB inputs for maximum flexibility
Alpine gives you USB inputs on the front and rear of the CDE-123. That gives you all kinds of playback options — you could dedicate the rear output to your iPod, while leaving the front slot free for a thumb drive loaded with digital files. Or your friend can connect his iPod to the front input while yours remains attached to the rear input, then you can use the CDE-123 to cycle between players. With two inputs, you won't need to disconnect your iPod when someone else wants to play a song for you.

Add satellite radio
Put the endless entertainment of SiriusXM Satellite Radio at your fingertips with the low-profile SXV200 XM tuner. You can pause and rewind live broadcasts, and get a heads up when your favorite artists or teams are playing on another channel. And with an iPod connected, you can tag songs for purchasing later in the iTunes™ store.

Boost your power and add on to your system
Three sets of preamp outputs provide convenient connections for your amps and subs, and you can use the subwoofer level control to dial in the right amount of bass. Then dial in the right sound using the 3-band parametric EQ, or choose from one of the six preset options. One more cool feature — this receiver works with Alpine's Power Pack, a compact box that hooks up easily to your receiver, boosting its power from 18 watts up to a serious 45 watts RMS per channel.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Alpine stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Alpine, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

I love this radio... this is the first non factory head unit I have had in over 15 years. At the time it was the only unit i could find with REAR usb/iPhone on the back which to me was the key selling point because of how I mount my phone.

    Pros: REAR USB

Cons: Pandora integration takes control from phone which makes it unusable for me.

Just an update if anyone is wondering, the iPhone 5 is fully compatible with the CDE-123 using the Lightning cable. I have not been able to test the dock connector adapter, but with the Lightning cable, you still have full control, tagging, song display and browsing. I also use this with the Sirius XM SXV200 and it works wonderfully. Sound is much, much better than stock.

Pros: Rear USB port, Sirius XM, iPod & iPhone control, even the new iPhone 5. Controls are fine too.

Cons: Wish Sirius XM alerts would make a sound or something, very bright at night, the dimming doesn't dim it too much.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had wanted to play my iPod and phone in my Focus without needing adapters. This Alpine was one of the few stereos (and only Alpine) in my budget with a rear USB port. I wanted to treat my iPod Classic like an old-school cd-changer, were it's hidden away and controlled with the head unit without extra wires everywhere, and it completely fulfills that requirement. Installation was easy with the dash kit and wiring harness supplied, although I took the extra time to solder and heat-shrink the wires. When the harness was complete, it only took a few minutes to swap stereos. Sound wise, it's like night and day compared to the factory CD player. The built-in EQ allowed me to increase the 100Hz range (using a narrow Q setting) to give more kick to drums without overly boosting sub-bass and overwhelming the factory speakers. The extra power over the factory radio really makes the sound come alive, and I think a speaker upgrade would really make the music shine. Adding a sub should be easy using the built-in sub crossover and dedicated output.

Pros: 3-band EQ even makes factory speakers sound good Searching and selecting music from an 80GB iPod is easy.

Cons: Discontinued. :-( Wanted to get another one to put in my truck. Blue illumination is bright, even dimmed.

I bought this because it was an Alpine and came with a front side USB that is compatible for the Itouch. I also bought it for the compatibility with the steering wheel controls. Unfortunately I purchased the wrong adapter and the new one is on the way.

Pros: Easy install instructions. Love the front side usb.

Cons: Finding songs on Itouch and requires a seperate adapter to work with steering wheel controls.

***** Install was easy. Fit and finish is nice. Great improvement over factory CD player. I decided on this because its and Alpine, it has FRONT and REAR USB, 4 Volt preamp sub outputs. I have two 10" Kicker CVRs and a Sony X-plod 500W amp with this Alpine head unit in my 2001 F-150 regular cab. Sounds pretty good. I like the sub woofer control on this Alpine in combination with the Bass, Mid, high I can tune my music as I like it. I gave it over 5 stars, but the coolness factor only 4....the one color (blue) display sucks, but it is what it is.....

    Pros: Front and Rear USB.

Cons: blue display only.......but it is hard to beat an Alpine.

I have owned several Alpine head units over the years and they continue to impress. I purchased the CDE-123 after comparing against similar models in price and thus far I am not disappointed to say the least. Great sound quality, ease of use and functionality. If Alpine is good enough for Ferrari they're good enough for my old truck.

Pros: Build quality, options, connectivity, sound quality and ease of use.

    Cons: Nuttin!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit was a great replacement for the factory Alpine unit in my '05 BMW 330ci with a few exceptions. The sound was an upgrade from the factory Premium Sound. The iPod control worked very well, and being able to switch to iPod Direct control was a great added bonus. Everything was easy to access once you knew where it was. Even the SAT radio sounded great, and it was nice that it used the brand new Sirius XM tuner which is much more compact for install. My only complaints were more asthetic than anything else. The blue display is the only color available and is very bright, which 1) doens't match my factory BMW orange illumination and 2) actually can be distracting during night driving, especially for driving over an hour. Also, the fact that it's only a single line of text is less than desirable especially if using the SAT radio, since you can't display the station number, the station name, the artist or the song simultaneously. But the sound quality was amazing which is the reason I have decided to stick with this unit over the other three that I tried. I highly recommend this unit, especially at this price point (and if you get it on sale, you can't beat it).

Pros: Sound quality, ease of use, features, and rear USB input to be able to keep your iPod connected when you exit the vehicle without it showing.

Cons: Display color and only one line of information.

I have had the component for almost two weeks. It has been a pleasure to use from the beginning. Everything works well, though the configuration could prove confusing to some. Coupled with 4 kickers I also purchased from Crutchfield the sound quality is great. Next needed is a sub-woofer to push up the bass and fill the sound out. The SiriusXM functions great with the adapter purchased through Crutchfield. Great service and fast.

Pros: ease of install good quality all in one mp3, cd, pandora, siriusXM and 2 USB ports

The CDE 123 is a great radio. Easy to use. The scroll is easy to figure out and the extra USB port in the back is a plus for the wife. The only thing that took me and the person who installed a little bit to figure was how to switch between front and back USB ports. It's the band button. Crutch field is awesome

Pros: 2 USB ports, easy to use. Ready for additional features like Bluetooth, or sirius

Superior deck, lots of features, almost too many. Extremely good value. Typical Alpine quality. You can really go all out with this receiver and add all sorts of add ons. Xm and bluetooth interfaces, multiple amplifiers...front, rear, and sub preouts, remote control ready, several aux imputs, wow. I installed this in my '07 Focus and really brought the factory speakers to life. Sounds great. I cant wait to get my Boston Acoustic's put in too.

Pros: Excellent value, TONS of features, Alpine looks and quality,

Cons: BRIGHT blue illumination, turn it down guys...or make it adjustable, no choice in color either, a little complicated to figure out all the features,

Great Deck A lot Of Feature's Right Out Of The Box. The Usb Cable Is Very Long. Sound's Great With My Alpine SPS-610C (2 Pair's) I'am Sure Though These Will Sound Even Better Amped ! The Real Reason I Got The CDE-123 Over The 124 Is The Rear Usb The 124 Is Cool But i Rather Not See The Usb In The Front Plus The 2 Additional Set's Of Preout's , Aux Rear , and The Buletooth Rear.Pandora & My Ipod Work's Excellent Both Easy To Use. The Only Thing I Have'nt Tryed is the "SiriusXm" Just Order That. And The Bluetooth (Still Not Sure about That A Bit Expensive If You Ask Me Idk Later ) I Would Strongly Recommend This Unit Or The Alpine CDE-124 It's A No Brainer!

Pros: Easy To Use, Build Quality ,Lot's Of Stuff

Cons: The Dim Feature Is Hardly Notice Able The "SORUCE,FAV,|<<,>>|,BAND,TUNE.Button's Are Way Too Bright At Night But During The Day No Problem To Read.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this head unit in my 2005 Honda Pilot and did it all in less than 20 mins, I did have to connect the wires on the wiring harness I got from Crutchfield but putting it into the car took very little time, their instructions made it easy. I also installed an alpine amp and replaced my sub and the car stereo came with instructions on how to remove the subwoofer so that was helpful. My sound quality has improve 80% and I still have alot of room for adjusting the sound. It takes sometime to get the settings right but once you learn to navigate it you do get what you want. Looking forward to many long road trips listening to great music. Oh the ability to use my iphone with Pandora is a huge plus, I always have music I like at my fingertips without having to fight with CD's or even sort through tracks.

Pros: Ease of installation, great appearance, incredible sound quality and real value for money.

Cons: Takes some time to get used to the settings but worth the time and effort all the way.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just replaced my head unit with the CDE-123 along with the Sirius Tuner, power pack and the required interfaces for steering wheel controls and on-star/chimes. I originally replaced in order to get the new sirius tuner with pause rewind (awesome by the way). This head unit is great. I don't mind the brightness, but wish you could change colors (rest of dash is green). Not quite as intuitive to use, but once you get used to it, it is very easy. had to pay extra for this one (over cde-124 with sirius - cheaper) because it has all of the pre am outlets for the on-star interface, but bonus was the rear usb input for my iPhone. I didn't listen to it without power pack, so can't comment on "stock" output, but even with stock speakers, this is far superior to stock head unit. I love it.

Pros: access to new Sirius tuner with pause/rewind two usb inputs + aux sound quality using the optional power pack price - can't believe how inexpensive this high quality unit is

Cons: stuck with one color so many settings, it takes studying the manual more than you think

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My main reason for wanting to replace the factory unit in my Tacoma 2005 truck was to have a front aux connector for my Garmin Nuvi GPS audio. I'm not on the road much but when I am I usually listen to one of 2 AM stations or audio from Nuvi. The Nuvi 785 has an internal MP3 player with a memory card where i'm using an 8GB version loaded with my music. The Nuvi's internal FM transmitter provided the connection to my factory unit and the quality wasn't the best. The Alpine CDE-123 had everything I needed plus many extras. It takes getting use to the smaller front panel controls as my old factory unit had huge buttions and switches that you could operate wearing mittens. For the Alpine I was able to program the Favorite button to switch to the font aux and then pressing the Source button selected the AM radio. This allowed me to switch back and forth without too much driving distraction. The 6 programmable front panel tuner memory switches also provides an easy way to switch between channels. The audio from the Alpine was 1000 times better that the factory unit. I was amazed at that. no need to change out the factory speakes. It doesn't booming bass but there's enough there to notice. As a final note it worked well with my iPod although I haven't used it much. The rear aux and USB will come in handy later on. Installation was breeze although I'm not a fan of plastic parts especially plastic mounting structures. What ever happened to metal.

Pros: Front and Rear USB and AUX connectors. Dedicated front panel radio program switches. Easy front panel user interface. Sound quality.

Cons: Panel lights not variable. They only slightly dimmed when the headlights switch on. Several buttons are colored blue with white lettering and this is hard to read. The panel lights seemed too bright. Would have like more options in panel lighting otherwise I'm completely satisfied.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the best bang for the buck unit available from Alpine. Essentially, it's the CDE-9870 and iDA-x300 all in one. The CDE-9870 is the early iPOD capatable unit, but lacks ability to control from the head unit. The x300 has iPOD controls in the head unit, sattelite and HD capabilities, but a poorly designed and low powered head unit, lacking in the RCA's.

Pros: Large variety of music source at an entry level price. iPOD/MP3 capable with control units built in and rear USB connections.(No smashed windows, when you forget to remove the iPOD. It stays in the glovebox, out of sight!) ALl of the correct RCA ports for ease of Amp selection andinstallation. Satellite and Pandora. All of the flexibility you could want under $200. Like it so much, I'm leaning towards replacing the x300 in my other car with a CDE-123.

Cons: The lights are a bit bright, but as the previous poster mentioned, only become a problem if the radio is mounted high. This would be a problem in my truck, but it isn't in my car. So.....I'm still searching for a CON! Awesome unit.

    Please dim the lights.

Somebody needs to tell Alpine that they need to cut back on the light output on the blue buttons on this radio. It is unbelievable the amount these put out. I had a Alpine CDE-121 and got rid of it because of blue light blindness. I like Alpine products so I went with a Alpine CDE-123 that has dimming features but it doesn't make much of a difference if dimmer is off or on. Also it doesn't work with the factory dimmer switch. this might not be much of a problem with some people, especially if your radio is mounted low. My radio is mounted high in the dash so this is very much a problem for me. After switching radios and spending more money, I really don't feel like taking this radio out and boxing it up and sending it back to Crutchfield and have to wait and so on. so I will just learn to live with it. I am currently in the process of making some button covers to lessen the light output of these blue lights. I guess if i have to see Blue Lights this is better than seeing them behind me.

Pros: Good Quality Product A lot of features to tailor this radio to your liking.

    Cons: Those blasted blue lights.

Cons: The iPod section is a little difficult to operate at first. It's all controlled through the head unit.

I've just purchased and installed this unit about a month ago. It is amazing. Sound quality and looks are everything you expect from Alpine. I would love to give this 5 stars, but the fact the stereo amp turns off when using RCA connections keep me from doing so. I have 4"x6" speakers in rear of 2dr Chevy Pickup that I now need to upgrade and connect to amp.Something I've needed to do, now being forced to.

Pros: It's everything you expect from Alpine. Amazing!!

Cons: Would have liked to use RCA connections to power amp for door components and bass, while having stereo power smaller speakers.

Ordered this headunit a few months back and installed it into a 2000 Sebring. Also installed a subwoofer and amp to go along with it. Had a few issues with the install but called Crutchfield and had it sorted out within minutes. Overall I would definitely recommend the headunit to anyone looking for an entry level unit with great build and sound quality. Hard to go wrong with Alpine.

Pros: Sound quality is great. USB input works well with simply a thumbdrive loaded with MP3s. Alpine quality. Great price point for a headunit like this.

Cons: Not all of my mp3s are supported. About one out of every 20 or so give me "Unsupported file". The headunit can sometimes be slow to respond. For instance, I search for an artist and want to play all the songs by that artist, I search to the artist, click the select button, wait a half second and click select again, wait half a second and click select again. I can't simply hit select 3 times in a row or it won't register any but the first.

    Alpine CDE-123 rates a thumbs-up.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like most truck owners, my 2002 GMC 1500HD is my work truck. Over the years I've managed to create a wonderful sound studio with the expert help of the Crutchfield staff. With over 2000 watts, two 10" Kicker comp subs boxed under the rear seats and four doors packed with Boston Acoustics high end speakers, the miles click by in blissfully joyful noise. And like so many audiophiles, my music source has shifted to an increasing commitment to Pandora radio. I replaced my older Clarion head unit (DXZ925) with the Alpine CDE-123 for this reason. The CDE-123 offers the full Pandora interface for my iPhone at a great price. The installation was a snap using the accessories included with my purchase. The timeless Alpine head unit configuration is easy for my aging eyes to read, the operating instructions are intuitive and the head unit looks great in my truck. To complete my system upgrade I added the Alpine KCE-400BT bluetooth adapter as well. With the phone interface of the CDE-123, my phone operations are a snap, my phone stays charged and I'm enjoying my Pandora every mile.

Pros: Integrated Pandora operation with my iPhone, proven Alpine functionality, integrated bluetooth operation, and great sound. Crutchfield scores my highest marks for customer service and value added to the transaction. You might be able to find save a buck or two elsewhere, but no one does it better than Crutchfield.

Cons: Given all the features included by Alpine at this price, I can't complain about anything.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recommend this receiver to anyone that enjoys a great car stereo system. I had a Sony CDX-GT640UI and it was fine for using my Ipod or Iphone but it lacked to capability to enhance the sound in my truck. This Alpine HU immediately made the sound quality 10 times better with no muddy or high pitch sounds. The volume could be turned up and it was still comfortable to listen to without just being plain loud as with my Sony. Then I plugged in the Alpine KTP-445 power pack and the sound came alive. I had previously installed some Polk Audio db 651 two ways in the front and Polk Audio db 461 plates in the rear and the 45 watts RMS from the power pack really brought the Polk Audio speakers to life. If you have poor speaker placement in your vehicle as I have with my 2005 Silverado then I recomment getting the power pack to improve the audio and bring the sound up to you rather than turning the radio up just to hear. If you are looking for deep base you'll need to add a sub and amp but otherwise I am happy with this HU and what it brings. The bottom line though is to do your research to find whats best for you but I recommend Alpine stereos

Pros: Sound Quality and Iphone and Ipod Control.

    Cons: Nothing.

This unit is great. I have a 2005 Hyundai xg350 and the original head unit was useless and the system sounded awful. I planned on starting with a stereo and buying the speakers and sub after. After this was installed it improved the sound tenfold. The speakers sound great. I am going to get a new sub just to even out the frequencies so i can turn up the sound. Its not too simple to use but you get used to it. Overall, it's a great stereo, and i recommend it for any system.

Pros: great sound great looks pandora is awesome

Cons: Not too easy to use at first only 18 Watts RMS

First of all the installation was simple. Definitely a lot easier than i thought it would be. Once i got it in, the sound quality was amazing. I have stock speakers and it sounds like i upgraded those also. I had an in line converter for my sub, because i had a stock radio and it always distorted. This alpine got rid of that problem completely. Another good feature about the radio being able to customize your sound or if you dont want to bother with it you can just pick one of the preset settings. The only thing that would be nice is to have the option of controlling your music by the ipod itself. It just takes a little getting used to and updating playlists. I would defiantly buy again

Pros: Installation was simple. Pre-outs are great Sounds amazing Customization is nice

Cons: Cant control ipod by itself

Low cost, easy of use, and Pandora is like having satellite radio for free.

Pros: Whats not to love? I can have my ipod touch hooked into the rear USB through my arm rest, my iphone hooked in up front using Pandora, while having my GPS giving voice commands through the Auxiliary jack. Plus it charges just about everything on top of it.

Cons: The display isn't as nice as my previous Alpine headunits, but then again this unit was much cheaper.

I will still by alpine prods, I think they are great I hope Alpine does something for me when I send it back.

Pros: Nice radio I like the all in 1 feature didnt want stuff hanging all over the dash.

Cons: It loses all xm channels when car is turned off, and it takes like 2 minutes to get them back,no radio clock or tuner presets are lost, just the Xm, BTY Is the only reason I bought the head unit.

Nice stereo for the price, has all the bells and whistles. Good sound and easy to install. All the ways you could ask for to listen to music. I-phone hook up, Bluetooth, Pandora, front and rear usb ports so you can play tunes off of a flash drive and your I-Phone or I-Pod, Satellite ready, and a rock solid cd player. However like all Alpine systems its hard to navigate for all the settings, but like anything else you get used to it. Definately not for the technically challenged individual though. Even so I'm happy with my purchase and would recommend this unit. As far as Crutchfield, the service is excellent. Free shipping and it was at my door in 1 day. The Crutchfield team is fantastic!!!!!

    Pros: Crutchfield service is excellent

Cons: Hard to navigate for all the settings. Definately not for the technically challenged individual. Owners manual was only on a cd which makes it kinda hard to reference on the fly.

Purchased from Crutchfield, came with wiring harness and faceplate, 2 hrs to install (2005 Crown Victoria), no hassles. PRO: Great sound even with stock speakers, very readable display. CON (minor stuff): * Too bright at night, "dim mode" is not dim enough and illumination can't be controlled via dashboard controls. * Cheap carrying case for faceplate (plastic "hinge" will probably break within 4 months) * Will not power USB hard drive (have not tried solid-state drive). MISC: Conflicting answers regarding maximum number of songs it will load from USB device (i.e. thumb drive); it's either 10,000 or 20,000.

    Pros: Great sound, feature rich.

Cons: Complicated, too bright at night, will not support portable USB hard drive.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I researched this product for weeks before purchasing. I have always purchased Alpine products for my cars. I wanted to try something different, but when comparing specs, price and reviews, I couldn't buy anything but an Alpine. I narrowed my purchase choices down to the Alpine CDE-124 and this unit. I chose this unit for two two reasons. 1) The rear usb input, and 2) the 4 volt pre- outs. I have an iPod hooked-up to the rear usb out and a low profile 32gb thumb drive (the amazingly small Lexar Echo ZX) hooked up to the front usb. I don't want for any storage! Negatives? Not many! 1) I wish the front panel buttons had switchable lighting colors (my car has red lighting, which kinda clashes with the blue); and 2) There is a steep learning curve for all of the control functions ( I have had to go to the manual several times to re-learn some of the controls). Overall, I am satisified with this product. Also, I highly recommend adding the Alpine KTP-445 Power Pack (see my review of that product).

The stereo has exceeded my expectations. I was thrilled that I could control Pandora through it. Now, after reading an earlier review, I can stream using any other streaming streaming app by using the USB connection. I thought I could only do this using a male-male headphone cable while utilizing the auxiliary input. My only complaint is that is automatically starts playing the first track on my iPhone when I plug my phone in. I kind of with that it would wait until I chose a track, album, or playlist. This has no influence on my opinion of the stereo or its performance. It's merely a personal preference.

Previous to the CDE-123 I had an Alpine CDE-9881, and previous to the CDE-9881 I had another Alpine unit. I updated to the CDE-123 stereo because I needed a stereo that would integrate more reliably with the iPhone 4, as well as give me additional device attachment options (front/rear USB and auxiliary inputs). I've loved the Alpine brand due to the outstanding sound quality, and the faceplate layout and style. Each iteration has maintained the high quality and features at an agreeable price point. I have never been disappointed with my Alpine units. I've also bought my past two Alpine units from Crutchfield. And wouldn't consider buying from any other car stereo place. Granted my vehicle makes aftermarket head unit installation easy. I've been happy with Crutchfield's included materials and documentation. I'm very happy with my equipment and retailer experience.

With a lot of new streaming music apps (Spotify, Mog, Rdio, etc.) this is the perfect head unit. If you hold in the main control knob for 2 seconds, you can control the music right from the iPhone. It is magical. You can also skip songs on the head unit while in this mode. The only trick is that you have to have the iPod app open, pause the music, and push play on the Spotify app. I am also really happy with the sound quality and ease of adjusting treble, mid, and bass. Side note: be prepared to do some serious wire stripping/crimping with the included wire harness. It wasn't too looks more overwhelming than it really is.

This unit is amazing. Even with stock speakers it sounds amazing. I bought to replace my old system which got jacked so, the removable face plate makes me slightly more at ease. I previously had a pioneer FH-P8000BT which I really liked. This unit isn't a double din which I would have preferred, how ever it is easier to set up than the pioneer and pushes a bit more power. I am putting in new speakers this weekend so I will finally know which system sounds better this or the pioneer. Wish it came in double din non-touch screen option. The only thing I really don't like about the unit so far is that whenever you plug in a hard drive it doesn't automatically go to that channel and start play. It does this with CDs haven't tried an ipod yet but I would assume it is the same as with a hard drive. Also navigation of hard drives is much better than that of the pioneer's and setting the time and date is also much easier. Tuning is simple with the standard treble, mid, bass, sub woofer, but there is also more technical tuning available.

I got this head unit for my wife's sienna van. i love it - it has a heap of options and sounds great even when driving some factory speakers (a project for another day). Mostly i've writing to warn those of us with Android phones that the pandora integration with the iPhone is not just the usual marketing halo effect of saying something works with the iPhone but they really mean just works with smartphones. when using the usb/data port on your phone there is no Pandora integration. I'm not sure if this is an Alpine issue or the android pandora app, but i hope they reach out and improve the combination. I dont hold it against them - i did read the product description and is does say iPhone - just dont think it's typical marketing buzz!

    Expensive sound made affordable

Revelene from Ashland, KY on 9/14/2011

I bought the CDE-123 to replace my Sony Xplod head unit that I had bought from Wally World. I hated the distortion that I would get at loud volumes from the unit so I was looking for sound quality. The CDE-123 was recommended by my local audio shop for it's clarity and features. So I bought it locally (Sorry Crutchfield) for the same price listed here. It took me about an hour of slacking and maybe 30 minutes of actual work to install it... After the install, I turned my car on and... Wow. I've never heard such clear (and loud) sound from a car before. It made my premium stock speakers sound like a concert hall with zero distortion! It even gave my Alpine Type-R 1243D a boost and made it perform like no other (because of the 4 volt RCA preouts). If you have an iPhone or iPod, this comes with front and rear USB and AUX ports. It comes with a USB extension cord and USB iPod connector. One downside is that you cannot control the music from an iPhone or iPod via the device its self... You have to use the head-unit. Not a deal breaker for me as I actually like using the knob to quickly load playlists and not deal with a touch screen while driving. If you are looking for an affordable head-unit that will produce crystal clear sound, look no further.

Initially I purchased the Alpine CDA105. The sound was good but the bass was almost nonexistent with my stock Silverado speakers. I tried everything but no acceptable bass could be adjusted for. I returned the unit "I called Alpine directly and talked to a Tech" and he mentioned that the Alpine CDE123 may fit my needs. I returned the CDA105 back to Crutchfied, a very good experience returning the item and installed the the CDE123. My bass is now back and even more enhanced that my original radio was and I am very pleased I went with the CDE123. Much greater control of BASS, Midrange and Treble then the CDA105. I am hearing sounds that I never heard before with my stock OEM radio with stock OEM speakers . Very happy with my choice.

I previously had an very nice Eclipse but it never seemed to have the sound quality I was looking for. In addition it was hard to use. I purchased this Alpine unit and installed it the night before a long road trip. The next morning I took off with some friends and with no instructions we had all the features of the deck figured out in five minutes. To beat the ease of use, the sound is incredibly better (same aftermarket speakers and amps). I have had Alpines in the past and they sounded great too. I will never purchase any other brand again. The only con of this deck is I cannot control my iPod from the iPod when it is plugged in through the USB connection. I drive a large truck so its kind of a pain to lean forward to reach the deck every time I want to do something with the song selection.

I bought the CDE-123 for my 1999 S10 Pickup. Crutchfield warned I would need to modify my vehicle by cutting a support tab for the stock radio. This turned out to be completely unnecessary. Installation was a breeze and I had the unit up and running in about 45 minutes. I have it connected to Polk DXIs (4x6 plates in the dash, 6.5s in the door), no external amp, no subwoofer. Having said that the detail is crisp and clear, even at high volume levels. Using the factory preset EQ setting, or tinkering with it yourself you can customize the sound quite a bit. I have used it with my IPOD and a USB Thumb drive. The USB support was unclear in the manual. Let me say that it does support .m3u playlists and you can sort by all the same criteria that the IPOD does. The only limitations are stated and after 1000 songs/100 directories etc. it auto divides into another bank. That is kind of annoying, I wish I could tag what bank a directory should go in but that really is not that big of a deal. I love the front/rear USB connections, it allows my daughter to connect her IPOD and leave the one in the glove box alone. This is the easiest HU I have ever used as far as navigating around your music library & the sound quality is everything I would expect from Alpine. I would not hesitate to buy this again.

I bought some Infinity speakers earlier so i coupled this purchase with the alpine KTP-445 power pack and the sound is great! Shipping was fast and free. Ordered the two items on a Tuesday and got them on Thursday the same week. I've always been an impatient person so fast shipping when i don't have to pay extra for it is always a plus in my book. The only con I would have for this product is that you can't change/surf for songs through your iphone when it's connected to the head unit. That doesn't warrant a reduction in stars as it's only what I'm used to and a personal preference.

David from Boston, MA on 6/8/2011

I really like this unit for it's rear USB and iPod integration. It pushes my stock speakers much nicer and the sound is a huge improvement. I do however wish that there were some display options. The bright blue unit is really distracting on the return of my nightly commute. There is no option to dim it whatsoever or change the colors. It would be nice with another line of display text as well since none of the scrolling display options display both artist AND song, which is somewhat frustrating. The iPod control is only available over the unit, it will not allow you to access the iPod on your phone. This is somewhat frustrating, as it is much easier for me to choose a song using my iPhone's touchscreen than it is to click through the volume knob on the unit. I don't use Pandora much, but it is a nice feature (although Slacker Radio is so much better!). This is a solid unit if you are planning to base your mobile media around your iPhone. It has a bunch of preamp outputs to further expand your system (which is why I chose this over the cde-124sxm). The sound quality is fantastic and it is satellite radio ready. The big drawback for me is the display. If this isn't a big problem for you then go ahead and buy this unit, it's great.

Out of the box the Alpine CDE- 123 sounded GREAT without making any adjustments and the AM reception is SUPERIOR to the other stereo I recently purchased locally. Let me start by saying I don't typically don't give anything a perfect rating, as nothing is perfect, but since there isn't a 4.75 available I chose a 5. I installed this HU paired with an 8" Bazooka tube (BTA8100FHC) and I couldn't be happier. It has been about 12-14 years since I upgraded a stereo system and was looking for something better than the Mach 460 system in my 2004 Mustang, as it is pretty much subpar. I was looking for a HU that was easier to use my IPOD with and this works great with the rear USB input, no more wires or FM transmitters to mess with. Paired with the Bazoka tube this thing sounds amazing...not head rattling, wake your neighbors booming bass. The stock speakers sound outstanding now, I couldn't believe the difference in clarity. IPOD controls are easy to use. I haven't used Bluetooth or SAT radio, so I can't honestly comment on those. The only thing I wish this had was some adjustability with the display least the classic Alpine green. Other than that I am completely satisfied.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I chose this unit because I wanted a SAT ready radio that had a rear USB for the iPod. You would not believe that almost no head units out there now have rear USB capability. This one did so that is why I bought it. I like the ability to go into a store and leave the iPod connected and also be able to hide it. I bought the optional Sirius XM tuner attachment and connected it up with the unit. Both units work great and you have the ability to save 12 Sat stations to it. The radio tuner gets very good reception so does the sat radio. The iPod controls are very nice and responsive and work well. However since this is a one line display it is limited verses the Alpine IDA-X305S. The CD Player works well. I cannot comment on the Pandora thing since I don't use it. The only gripes I have over the unit is that it should have come with the optional SXM tuner like the CDE-124SXM did and the lack of remote(I had to buy my own) The remote thing is a Alpine thing as none come with it. All in all I like the unit very much and it is the best I could get for what I wanted.

USB app support limited to Pandora and iPod?

    Blueness from NH on 5/1/2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After a few years with a Pioneer FH-P8000BT, I was lured back to Alpine by iPod/iPhone/Pandora compatibility (no more nag screens). Maybe I missed something, but it seems that USB app support is limited to Pandora and iPod with no audio pass-through for Stitcher, Slacker, etc. Whether it's a nudge toward safer driving, this unit does not support audio-bypass/multitasking in the way that Pioneer do. I'm also disappointed that illumination is limited to blue. A red for night driving would have been nice. Aside from the above, the head unit is classic Alpine. It feels solid and sounds great. The rear aux/USB/AlpineAccessory support is a bonus, but it does mean there are more sources to cycle through. The FAV button is nice way to limit cycling, but because USB and Pandora are separate sources (odd), I have two "FAVs" instead of one. All in all, I'm happy with the unit, but it does appear that I've simply traded one set of "incompatibilities" for another. At $199 it's not a bad deal, but, if you're interested in Alpine, you might want to wait another year or two until they finally get SmartPhone (not just iPhone) support right.

In a time where all of your competition is ADDING lots of color options to their head units, you guys are taking all of my illumination options away?! Kinda ticks me off, really.
