Alpine CDE-141 CD receiver

Intelligent layout and user-friendly controls are an Alpine trademark.

Control and expand your system

A powerful internal amp gives you plenty of headroom to turn up the volume without the sound getting distorted and harsh. You can adjust the overall tone to taste with the 3-band parametric EQ, which allows you to choose the centerpoint for your bass, midrange, and treble controls.

If you want to take performance up another notch, you can plug Alpine's KTP-445A Power Pack directly into to the CDE-141. This plug-and-play powerhouse kicks up the output to a robust 45 watts RMS per channel, but it requires almost no wiring and takes up very little space. If you want to bring on the bass, this Alpine also features two sets of RCA preamp outputs, perfect for adding a powered sub or an amp.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

Great product. The factory stereo in my jeep stopped working and I really liked it so I didn't want to get rid of it. I had a really tough time deciding which receiver to get to replace it and now I am really glad I purchased this one. I like my new one and didn't break the bank.

Great instructions from Crutchfield made for easy install. Unit does everything it's supposed to and now I can use my iphone for music. Unit interfaces well with iPhone 4S. Sound is overall better than stock head with stock speakers although I lost the sub (old head had built in amp). Can add in the future pretty easy...two RCA outs on the head. Only criticisms are small buttons, small display can't show much info at once, an have to hold down button to power off...would prefer to just tap.

Pros: Easy install, good number of interfaces in a cheap unit, sounds better than stock

Cons: Small buttons, display can't show a lot of info in one screen

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

System install was easy, wiring went quick. Volume/EQ very sufficient to the space. I may add tweeters/amp driven from the line outs to improve imaging because of poor speaker location in the van doors, but that is not a pbm from Alpine at all. USB front plug is sweet. Throw in a 8 gig jump drive and you have a ton of sound for almost nothing. Only reason I didn't give it 5 was that I have some audiobooks that have hundreds of tracks. The Alpine supports tracks up to 100 and rolls back to zero. The manual was of no help and it would be great to have the track change button to auto increment when held in. Scanning forward and backward is nice, but when you need to go to track 211 in an audiobook thats a lot of clicks on the front panel. Otherwise this is a great unit. I just wish I had checked to see the USB controls before the purchase. I would have paid more to have up to 999 mp3 tracks allowed in every eBook. Bruce

Pros: Nice look, good sound, easy to install and use.

Cons: USB operation limited beyond 99 mp3 files (or at least all my research and fiddling have not found a way around this other than break the book up on my PC into subsections of less than 100 tracks. I would be tickled if someone would point out that I am doing something wrong here.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a simple head unit. Since the demise of Eclipse, I have sort of been searching for a new "go to" brand. The Alpine CDE-141 is now the 2nd Alpine unit I own. Its a simple unit and fits all the needs that I have, radio, CDs, iPod controller and built in amp. This unit went into my RV. It does everything I need. Plus is sounds great. I did a comparison on my RTA with the stock unit and the frequency response is noticeably flatter (which means is better). The built in amp section is clean and offers enough power to run the aftermarket speakers in my RV. Is it a super high end audiophile sound? No, but its not intended to be. Can you build a high end system with this as your source unit, yes. Its not fancy with flashing lights and over the top displays. But that's not what I wanted or needed. I like clean and simple. The iPod controls are a little hard to use, but once I got used to it, no issues. Alpine has long been a reliable brand and it is great to see that they have entry level head units at affordable prices. There are features on this unit I probably wont use, the cross-overs and parametric EQ, but they are still very cool things to have in an entry level unit. The display is easy to read and navigating between the radio, cd, and iPod is easy as well. Im happy with this purchase and I think I may have found my new "go to" brand.

Pros: Price, build and brand quality, good built in amp, and nice features.

Cons: iPod controls are awkward at first.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First time buying an Alpine head unit. Basically I have had less than stellar success with Pioneer and Kenwood; decided to try something different. Good bang for the buck with the Alpine unit. Very good clarity teamed with Polk 6.5 Coax shallow mount speakers.

Pros: Like the AUX input (I listen mostly to my portable MP3) and EQ settings..

Cons: NOT intuitive for menus/feature access. The manual is a must to navigate until you get the hang of it. Unfortunately, the manual is rather difficult to follow while you navigate. I still haven't figured out how to make the display dim MANUALLY. It's kind of bright at night.

Installed this stereo in my 2001 Chevy Tahoe. Great value. Great sound for the money. Easy to install and an excellent low-cost replacement for the stock stereo. Especially like the compatibility with my iPhone.

Pros: Great value. Easy to install. Compatibility with iPhone.

Cons: Instructions for wiring the harness were incomplete. After following the supplied instructions for wiring and installation, the stereo did not work. I called tech assistance and it was as if they were expecting my call. The tech provided one additional easy step that solved the problem. This step should have been included in the written instructions.

    Good sound quality

    Harman_Kardon from Charlottesville on 8/16/2013

All i can say is that this unit has very good sound quality. The mids are very forward, Bass is more than enough, Treble is very smooth. Only thing i bother is that this unit cannot go very loud with aftermarket speakers. This because it has no MOSFET amplifier build in it gets distorted at volume 15 with Loudnes function off. My 3 years old Sony head unit with mosfet goed all the way to volume 37 without any distortion with loudnes on and bass max. I have al 4 new infinity kappa speakers in the doors, and they go very very loud with Sony head unit. But if you planning to use a external amplifier, you get the best quality out there with this unit !

Pros: Ease of installation sound quality and crispness

Cons: No Mosfet build in amp. Does get pretty fast distorted using buil in amp.

It fit the console as stated on the product information, the tools to remove the old one were also included within the order, (at their suggestion) the tools not only worked, but gave me proper instruction with little mechanical knowledge needed. The removal of the old one went off without a hitch.! Installing the new radio was easier than I had ever imagined. Great Product sound, great product description prior to my order! Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaces original factory unit. With all the extras provided by Crutchfield, it is definitely high on the Value scale. Not being a car audiophile, I considered the factory unit perfectly adequate, until the AM died. The Alpine sounds good to me, and felt like a solid piece of equipment when I installed it. The "coolness factor" is of little importance here; substance ranks much higher than style. Installation instructions were very helpful, as were the technical professionals I spoke with over the phone. Being a first-time radio installer, I surprised myself by being able to actually make it work! I realize it wouldn't be practical to cover every possible problem one can encounter, but it would have been helpful, in my case, to have more pictures showing the removal procedure for the original equipment, especially the antenna connection. Thanks again for the help via the phone.

Pros: Good value. Good sound. Good installation help.

Cons: With so many options and adjustments, the operation is not intuitive. Printing the manual is the only way to navigate.

    E.Peterson from Tampa,FL. on 3/12/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased the unit for my father in law. It is actually installed in a garage with a power supply. The unit gets good radio reception even being indoors. The mp3 player works perfectly and he can play over a hundred songs on a disc. The usb port on the front allows his iphone to be connected and the radio controls it perfectly. It has plenty of power and the sound quality is very good. I do like the ability to adjust bass, treble and midrange, or choose one of the many eq settings available. I considered the UTE 42Bt, but he wanted a cd player and was not too concerned with bluetooth, so I went with the 141. He is very happy with the unit. I feel it has the quality and features I expect from Alpine.

Pros: USB connection, iphone controls & charging via the usb cable, and very good sound.

Cons: It does not come with a case for the faceplate.

I picked up this unit because it had everything I needed. I went with Alpine because the unit I was replacing was an Alpine so I knew this unit would fit the stereo opening. I searched many Alpines and this unit had all the features I needed at a reasonable price. I was dissatisfied with this unit because it would not play any of my CD's. I tried several CD's to put in and all the unit would do was say "Load" then spit the CD back out. I never tried the Ipod function because i was so disgusted with the CD player not working and I knew I would be sending this one back.

Pros: nice features for the money

I bought this deck to drop in my commuter car because I wanted an Auxiliary plug for my MP3 player and because I had owned Alpine decks in the past. There is a reason why Alpine products are widely thought of as some of the best.....even a lower priced unit like the CDE-141delivers like a unit that is 3-4 times the price! I couldn't be happier with the CDE-141.... plenty of juice to push my Polk coaxials and plenty of features to fine tune and get out of the unit. Being able to adjust the db level for each source is a really nice feature. You won't be disappointed in the CDE-141.

Pros: Attractive, well built, full of features, very customizable.

Cons: A remote included would be nice and the DVD manual is kind of a pain. I had to print out directions for all the features and how to find them because none of this is in the paper book manual that is included. Would have been easier if it were all in the book book but I am splitting hairs.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this unit to replace the factory stereo in my car. I chose it because I was looking for something without too many "bells and whistles" by a good name brand company. It installed easily and looks good in the dash. The sound is good, I would not say great but in my car that is not a super high priority. Now for a few details. I liked the idea that the faceplate can be made permanent with a "fixing screw" actually that was a selling feature for me since I do not plan to ever remove it. Only problem is that after searching thru the manual (on CD ROM) there is no mention of how to affix the faceplate with the screw. I also looked online with no luck and decided to not use it. I think the Crutchfield people would probably know how to do this but I never contacted them. Also the "Dimmer" feature is so subtle that it might as well not be included. Not that the unit it too bright, I just like to try out all the features. The display is pretty basic and easy to see at night and in the daylight. I only use it for the tuner and CD's so can't say how well it handles phones, Ipods etc. That's about it, Crutchfield was great as well.

Pros: Basic, easy controls. (you can go deeper for fine tuning if you want to) Good sound, good price. Seems to get better reception than my last tuner.

Cons: No instructions included to show you how to attach the face plate permanently with the included "fixing screw"

    Great alternative to factory stereo

iPod/iPhone USB 1-Wire Connection: You can connect your iPod or iPhone to the head unit's front-panel USB port using the Alpine KCU-445i iPod/iPhone cable (500KCU445I, sold separately) or the iPod dock-connector cable that came with your iPod/iPhone to get access to all of your iPod/iPhone's stored music, right from the head unit. If you have an iPod nano (7th gen), iPod touch (5th gen), or iPhone 5/5C/5S; use the Lighting-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect to the head unit. Using either cable allows audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of select iPod/iPhone models from the CDE-141.

    • Audio Playback w/ DAC Bypass: The Alpine CDE-141 supports audio playback of music, podcast, and audiobook files stored on your iPod or iPhone; as well as music apps downloaded on your Apple device. The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's large music libraries to be loaded instantly to the Alpine head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 1-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 105dB.
    • Music Navigation: You can choose to control the iPod/iPhone from the head unit or from your iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen (App Direct Mode).
      • Head Unit: The Alpine CDE-141 lets you navigate the stored music on your iPod/iPhone by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Genre, Composer, Podcast, or Audiobook. You can then search these categories alphabetically. For especially big music libraries, the Percentage Search function uses the preset buttons for quick jumps to specific parts of the list (Preset 1: 0-6%, Preset 2: 17-32%, Preset 3: 33-49%, Preset 4: 50%-66%, Preset 5: 67-82%, Preset 6: 83-100% of the song library). The head unit also offers three Shuffle playback modes (Album/Song/All) and one Repeat mode (song).
      • App Direct Mode: In App Direct Mode, you can navigate the stored music on your iPod/iPhone from its clickwheel or touchscreen. You can also listen to your favorite music apps (such as Pandora, iHeartRadio, SiriusXM,, Rhapsody, & Slacker) from your iPhone (iOS 3.0+) through the Alpine head unit. Basic playback functions, such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track are available from the head unit. You will continue to use your iPhone's touchscreen to navigate advanced functions of your music apps. Not all apps will be compatible with this mode. Access to your iPhone's downloaded applications will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.
    • Information Display: The CDE-141 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information when you are controlling your iPod/iPhone from the Alpine head unit or the Apple devices clickwheel/touchscreen. The head unit will display Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album label. In App Direct Mode, the unit will also display song/artist information from select music apps.
    • iPod/iPhone Charging: While connected and the ignition switch is set to ACC or ON, the head unit's USB connection will power and charge your iPod/iPhone. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it. This unit does not charge the iPad.

    • Max Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels

4ch/2V Preamp Outputs: The Alpine CDE-141 features two pair of 2.0-volt preamp outputs. The unit's rear preamp outputs can be configured as fading rear-channel outputs or a non-fading subwoofer outputs with a low-pass filter, phase adjustment, and output level control.

Note: When an external amplifier is connected sound quality can be improved by stopping the power supply of the built-in amplifier.

Head Unit Power Pack (optional): Add the KTP-445A (500KTP445A, sold separately) Head Unit Power Pack to deliver 45 watts x 4-channel RMS of power. The KTP-445A is compact enough to install behind the Alpine CD receiver. It plugs in-line with the head unit's wiring harness, so you don't even need additional wires.

Subwoofer Control: When the non-fading subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can adjust the subwoofer's volume, low-pass filter, & phase.

    • Volume: There are two volume (system) modes for the unit's subwoofer output.
      • System 1: Subwoofer level changes according to the main volume setting.
      • System 2: Subwoofer level change is different from the main volume setting (0-15); even at low volume settings, the subwoofer is still audible.
    • Low Pass Filter: The unit's subwoofer output low-pass filter can be set to 60Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz, or Off (through).
    • Subwoofer Phase: The subwoofer output phase can be set to Normal (0°) or Reverse (180°).

High Pass Filter: The Alpine head unit is equipped with a high-pass filter for its speaker-level output and front-channel preamp output (when activated). You can set the unit's high-pass filter to 60Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz, or Off (through).

    3-Band EQ
    Frequency Q-Factor Level
    Bass 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 120Hz   Wide 0.5, Medium 1.0, Medium 1.5, or Narrow. 2.0 -7 to +7 (+/-14dB in 2dB steps)
    Midrange 500Hz, 1.0kHz, 1.5kHz, or 2.5kHz Wide 0.75, Medium 1.0, Medium 1.25, or Narrow 1.5 -7 to +7 (+/-14dB in 2dB steps)
    Treble 7.5kHz, 10kHz, 12.5kHz, or 15kHz Wide 0.75 or Narrow 1.25 -7 to +7 (+/-14dB in 2dB steps)

Note: The units stores independent EQ settings for each source (Disc, Tuner, Aux, USB, and iPod).

Loudness: Loudness introduces a special low and high frequency emphasis at low listening levels to compensate for the ear's decreased sensitivity to bass and treble sound at low volume. T

Source Volume Level: The output level of each source is individually adjustable from -14 to + 14 dB.

    Display Features

Detachable Face: The unit features a single front loading CD face that detaches from the chassis to deter theft. The unit does not included a face case. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

1-Line LCD Display: This unit is equipped with a 1-Line white-backlit LCD, so you can easily view AM/FM stations, CD-Text, and ID-3/WMA tag information.

Text Display: Text information, such as the disc name and the track name, will be displayed if playing a CD text compatible disc. It is also possible to display the folder name, the file name, and the tag information, while playing a MP3/WMA disc.

Text Scroll: This unit can scroll the disc and track names recorded on CD-Text disc, as well as the text information of MP3/WMA files, folder names, and tags. There are two Text Scroll settings.

    • Auto: The CD text information, the information of folder and file names, and the tags are scrolled automatically.
    • Manual: The display is scrolled when a disc is loaded or when a track is changed.

Favorite: You can set a favorite source (USB/AM/FM1/FM2/AUX/DISC) to the head unit's "FAV" button, so you can access that particular source directly.

Auto Dimmer: This unit is equipped with an illumination lead (orange); when the unit's dimmer mode is set to Auto and the illumination lead is connected to your vehicle's headlight circuit, the display and button illumination will dim to a fixed, preset level whenever the headlights are turned on. If preferred, you may choose the Manual dimmer mode setting, so the display and button illumination is dim at all times.

    Remote Control

Optional Wireless Remote: The Alpine CDE-141 is wireless remote control ready. Simply add on the Alpine RUE-4202 IR remote (500RUE4202, sold separately) to make it even easier to control the head unit's functions.
