Great functionality, love the look. High quality Alpine stereo. Installed in my 2000 honda crv. I would highly recommend buying a right angle driver attachment or a right angle screwdriver for removing the factory stereo.

Pros: all available music formats, clean look.

    Cons: none

Outstanding stereo! Easy to use. However, beware of the microphone! There are no installation instructions for it. I ended up disassembling my dash a second time to hook it up. There are two ports on the back of the stereo next to the wiring harness connection, the microphone connects to the upper one.

Pros: Great sound, easy to use.

Cons: No instructions for microphone installation.

Very nice system for the price. Does everything I wanted it to do and is simple to operate. Definitely recommend

Pros: Great Bluetooth sound Pairs easily to iPhones Inexpensive

Cons: Only con I can think of is needing to select Bluetooth music as the source and not just simply playing music from my phone. Didn't expect this product to have that like my 2016 Sierra, but would definitely be the icing on the cake for this system

Wired up easy and easy to use. Got the install kit too which made it a complete breeze. I'll only buy alpine and once again I'm a happy customer. Using this with a 400w Rockford Fosgate amp and 2 10" Rockford Fosgate P2's. Eventually going to switch out the door speaker to Rockfords as well.

Pros: Love the layout and Bluetooth hooks up flawlessly every time. Great sound and ease of use.

    Cons: None.

I got this unit for my 1989 Ford F250 HD to replace the very old factory stereo. I had already replaced the factory speakers with Infinity Kappa's. This Alpine head unit really brought them to life the sound from those little 6.5 inch speakers is amazing. Install was extremely easy. And just for an added bonus the blue lights on the Alpine just happened to be the same shade of blue as my truck, looks really good.

Pros: Hands free phone. Excellent sound. Easy installation. Looks great. All the features I wanted with none I didn't want.

    Cons: None so far.

Really good product especially for the money. I would buy it again. I purchased this because the factory radio and Bluetooth were dying in my truck. Crutchfield was awesome as always and the receiver is solid in every way. The microphone for voice command and phone calling is excellent.

Pros: Solid performance all around Great phone call fidelity Great value

Cons: Controls are a little small for people over 40! :)

    1997 Chevrolet Corvette
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed this stereo into my 97 Corvette. I was reluctant because my original car stereo is pristine and had it semi-working with Bluetooth with a little add-on that you connect to the antenna. Yes, the 12 cd-changer was great 10 years ago, but you get tired of the same songs and forget to change the cds. But the sound was very low quality and often high range sounds would get interpreted as static and sound would go a little in and out. After several years of compromised stereo experience I had enough! So I got this stereo, liking it's clean look, and hoping for the best. Wow, am I glad I did. This stereo is awesome. In addition to the usual, it interfaces really nice with your phone - forwards to next song really fast, has a song search feature, interfaces with your phone contacts list so makes it easy to find the person you want to and the sound is great. Only thing I have to get used to is it seems to take a little while to power up sometimes, but I'm guessing that is due to a bose interface add-on that makes it better tie with the oem bose speaker system.

Pros: Great sound Clean look Ties with your phone's contact list making it easy to make a call Very good interface with your usb thumb drive or phone

Cons: Adapter instructions a little confusing. Easy to plug connectors wrong. Two plugs are the same, so just match the wire colors. Powering up sometimes very slow - maybe due to bose speaker system adapter

Great radio to maneuver around on . Easy set up - easy installation.

Pros: Has everything I wanted and needed -

Cons: Only challenge for me was how to keep the radio from sliding in and out with the installation kit I received. I eventually figured it out. The other challenge was that the back of the radio for the blue tooth mic is not labeled. I had to google how and where and how to plug the mic into. If it is in the instruction manual, then I think I overlooked it.

    Alpine CDE143 Unreliable Bluetooth

Matthew from Peoria, AZ on 5/6/2017

    2004 Volkswagen Beetle
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall this is a nice, good sounding unit, with one large deal breaker for me. Disappointing Bluetooth phone connectivity. It rarely would see our Samsung Note 5 or Motorola Droid, let alone connect reliably. Even manually pairing the phone did not always guarantee it would connect. Crutchfield was awesome and made the exchange easy. Unfortunately the 2nd unit was even more unreliable and had to be returned as well. Once again, Crutchfield stood behind its products and is the reason I will continue to purchase all my car audio from them.

Pros: Looks good. Easy to read display. Front USB port. Clean audio.

    Cons: Unreliable Bluetooth.

Easy install, and increased sound quality out of the box. Unit is easy to use and the display is easy to read. My only complaint with this unit is the display brightness. Not only does it make all music sound better, but the included bluetooth hands-free features increase safety, especially when driving in NH where you must use hands-free mode (no mobile device use permitted while driving). Easily pairs to my Android phone for seamless music streaming, voice control, and phone call handing. The included mounting and wiring kit make the swap into any vehicle a snap. Can't beat this head unit for the price. Alpine quality, no extra thrills thrown in there to drive up the price. Looks great too. Haven't tried the Bluetooth yet but I'm not expecting any issues with linking my iPhone after reading other reviews.

Cons: As mentioned in other reviews, this unit doesn't have tons of EQ settings. If you want all of those options you're going to pay for them.

I bought this as a replacement to the factory unit in my truck. Sound quality did improve, but not nearly what I was expecting. Also, you do not have many EQ options. I recently decided to try out a Pioneer head unit and I am so much happier with what I have now. I bought a Pioneer AVH-X3800BHS and yes, i know it is more expensive but certainly worth the more money. Overall I would not recommend this head unit.

Pros: Looks, and that's about it

Cons: Sound quality could be better, turns off by itself, also when you receive a Bluetooth call, the alarm is as extremely annoying. Certainly better things on the market. Don't be fooled by the Alpine Brand.

I had read bad reviews on the Bluetooth previously, but found those to be wrong. Probably user error. Synch was simple and Bluetooth features are excellent. Crutchfield included the mounting hardware wiring kit nad insatllation instructions. Install was a breeze. This unit was an open box special. It arrived in excellent (new) condition. This radio is a very nice car radio. i really like that Blue tooth connection to my iphone and especially the ability of the radio to tell my iphone to pick up where i left off in Audible as soon as i start the car. I was not expecting this. The radio will even start the app, if i had it closed on my iphone.

Pros: nice appearance Great bluetooth functionality ability to kickstart my iphone to what was playing last while i was in the car

Cons: If you set it up so that it connects to more than one iphone, it remains connected to the most current phone. you have to disconnect bluetooth and reconnect bluetooth in order for it to recognize a different iphone again. It does not dynamically switch to whichever iphone is in the car.

After nearly a decade, and a couple different vehicles, my other head unit finally took a dump on me. i went online and found a well reviewed bluetooth head unit, and this was it. my last car stereo cost me $260ish, and i have to say, you get much more for your money now. this stereo sounds great. i can hardly wait to hook up some amplifiers again. having an iphone, i love the USB and bluetooth features. they're both very quick to read and begin playing audio. i bought this for the bluetooth feature, but i more often than not end up using USB. One cool set of features is that when you're connected via bluetooth, the radio will display your approximate battery status and your signal status. it won't show separate bars for signal strength, but will blink when you're in questionable service areas. good to know if you're streaming audio, or in the middle of a call. i mounted the microphone in the middle of my dash and im afraid that it receives too much wind interference there. im going to try mounting it on the headliner where it's out of the air current and i'll test it again. although longwinded, i can't say enough good things about this stereo for the price. Alpine for life.

Pros: ease of connection, interfaces beautifully with iPhone, surprisingly clear audio for the price.

Cons: i can't honestly think of any cons. i didnt have many expectations upon purchase of this, and it hasn't really left me wanting anything more. it doesn't seem to be displaying the artist/track names though. not sure if there's settings i need to mess with to make that happen.

I loved my factory radio. Receiver, CD, Cassette deck, joystick balance and fader, but one day I turned the volume up to 11 and it would never turn down again. This Alpine was a top seller and had great reviews so I ordered it to replace my beloved factory radio. Crutchfield shipped the same day and I had it two days later. After soldering and heat-shrinking the wiring adapter, I plugged it in, turned it on... and no sound. I called tech support and the guy knew which receiver I had and what I was installing it in without me telling him anything! (Scary) Turns out my truck has the Infinity sound system and the blue/white wire on the receiver has to be connected to the blue wire on the adapter. Danged if I could find that info in the instructions though. A quick solder job later and the thing works! It sounds great! Not a lot better than my factory radio, but it's noticeable. The display is bright enough for daytime use but not blinding at night. All the controls are fairly intuitive except for the clock. I had no trouble setting it, but I can't figure out how to get it to display the time. Overall, I think it's worth what I paid for it and Tech support is 'scary' helpful, but I just wish I could get it to display the time.

Pros: Sounds great, easy install (except for the wiring issue).

Cons: How do you get the time to display? It may not be that big of a deal to some, but I'm not sure how much of it I have left.

I mainly use the TUNER and BLUETOOTH audio streaming. All display is easy to see even when the convertible top is down and sunny. Minor issue but really annoying..... 1. Selecting CLOCK display will overwrite showing any other display on other modes such as BLUETOOTH STREAMING. i.e.When you switch the display to show the CLOCK, then will only show the track number and time when using Bluetooth Streaming. Also if you choose to display SONG TITLE, ARTIST, ALBUM, ETC in BLUETOOTH then it will only show the radio station when you switch to TUNER. Long story short, you can't show CLOCK in TUNER mode and also show SONG TITLE, ARTIST, ALBUM, ETC in BLUETOOTH mode. 2. Even though you have BLUETOOTH paired, it will not reconnect if......You turn the stereo on and iPhone is not set to BLUETOOTH radio, but then you turn the BLUETOOTH on. There is a 3-5 second window where you can. If you miss that window then you'll have to go into iPhone Bluetooth settings and select ALPINE STEREO. This is a super pain. To save you trouble, just make sure you iPhone Bluetooth is ON! Before you start your car.

Pros: Easy install and setup. Adjustments were intuitive. Bluetooth pairs easy. Bluetooth mic is sub-par for clarity.

Cons: 1. Any display chosen in a certain mode will override any display setting on other modes. For instance, you can't show CLOCK in TUNER mode and also show SONG TITLE, ARTIST, ALBUM, ETC in BLUETOOTH mode. 2. Detachment/Attachment hook feature always gets caught! The detachment feature is a pain to "easily" detach. The hook feature always gets hung up. You have to press the detach button and let it "Fling" open. Bad usability design.

This is my second Alpine radio in this car. The first one I bought and had installed locally. It was an HD radio, and man, that was terrible. I don't blame the radio as much as the concept. Here in the mountains it would switch from broadcast to HD and the delay between the two signals was frustrating. I could not find an option to turn off the HD feature. So I decided to buy another radio. I went with this Alpine for a couple of reasons, it was similar to the previous model I had, which made installation a breeze. It used the same connections and parts! It also looks good in the dash, the blue matches the blue of the VW. And it's ease of connection via bluetooth is another selling point.

Pros: Easy to install, looks great, not HD

    Cons: none yet!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very pleased with the Alpine CDE 143BT stereo tuner that I ordered from Crutchfield. My son and I installed the unit yesterday and it sounds great. I knew that Alpine would have high quality sound and it didn't disappoint. Installation was not difficult, even for a couple of first time "installers". We soldered the power wires and used butt connectors for the speakers. We had no real issues and we knew if we had a problem the Crutchfield Technicians were just a call away. The next time we need to purchase a tuner we will definitely buy from Crutchfield.

Pros: We could have purchased this tuner from other sources, but we chose Crutchfield because of the Technical Service. They were helpful during the purchase process and we did have to call to have one question answered during the installation (we couldn't get the face plate off of the tuner to remove the Single DIN frame). I also appreciated the videos for each unit and the comparison feature on the website. Those two features also aided in the selection process.

    Cons: None

Two thumbs up. One for Alpine and one for Crutchfield. 10 years ago I bought an Apline CDA-9856 cd player/tuner with ipod control for my daily driver - a 2000 Tacoma. Way back then I called and talked to a Crutchfield rep to make the order. I wanted to order 4 new speakers too. The rep. amazed me when he told me to try the new cd player with the stock speakers and wires. Sure enough, he was right. The stock stuff sounded great being pushed by the Apline. Fast forward 10 years and I bought this new Alpine. Install was simple and Bluetooth works great with my iphone, and so do those same old Toyota speakers and wires. Price was very good too. I don't know about you, but when a company rep. advises me not to buy more stuff from him unless I find that I really need to, I want to do business with that company again, and again. Now that I'm hooked on the ease of use of Bluetooth, I'm going to have to replace the stereos in my other cars.

Pros: Great looks, easy to use, Iphone music sounds great over bluetooth and price

I was looking for a basic stereo receiver, with built in Bluetooth functionality, and good audio quality. I have definitely found it in this deck. Super easy to install, I had never installed a stereo myself before. Don't waste your money on paying someone to install it. Youtube is your best friend. Worth the money, great audio, super easy to install, and its an Alpine. Enough said.

    Pros:

Cons: Would like to be able to set the volume for the audio, and the blue tooth audio to be the same level. Right now if you are listening to Bluetooth audio or making a phone call and switch to the radio or cd the audio is ridiculously loud!

Great stereo with powerful sound. A major step up from my sony stereo, which was a piece of trash. I will never buy Sony again. Pushing my alpine speakers and 2-12" subs perfectly fine. Although I still cant figure out the bluetooth phonecall microphone to work, but it may just be me. Also, I dont like pushing the buttons when I have to reconnect my faceplate; they should have left an open space that wont cause excess pressure on the buttons.

Pros: Intuitive layout. User friendly faceplate.

Cons: Buttons that toggle folders via usb and repeat options do not light up, so its difficult to see what Im pressing while driving at night. Biggest annoyance: When on bluetooth audio setting, it will not emit sound when i play something off my phone. I have to toggle thru CD, radio, aux, usb, BACK TO "Bluetooth audio" for the stereo to emit sound from my phone.

I have a 2001 Mercedes E320 and the radio finally died and I ordered this Alpine to replace it after seeing so many good reviews. What a nice little system this is. I have the Bose sound system in my Mercedes and this radio sounds great. Bluetooth connectivity to it with my iPhone was a breeze. CD sound is excellent as well. I feel that my car has gotten a significant upgrade with the Alpine. The build quality seems excellent. I know you can spend a lot more on a replacement head unit, but this one really does the trick. You even get a microphone included for voice commands and phone calls. And Crutchfield puts everything you need in the box to install and it goes into the existing space with no modifications. Well done Alpine and Crutchfield!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Alpine CDE-143BT was an easy install in my 2002 Tahoe. The wiring connectors and plugs provided hooked with little problem; I just have to use one wire from the smaller GM plug and add it to the radio plug to run the original installed subwoofer. The unit puts out enough power to power the Pioneer and and Kenwood speakers. There is a learning curve figuring out some of the controls. I don't like that when the Ipod is plugged in, the unit takes control of the Ipod and I'm unable to change anything on the Ipod unless unplugged from radio. The blue lighted control area is nice and not distracting. Overall, it's a good quality basic unit with cd player that allows USB or smaller plug accessories.

    2004 Dodge Sprinter
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a direct replacement with Bluetooth capability and USB. The instructions were pretty straight forward and the install was fairly easy. The two challenges I ran into was (1) the wiring adapter had the [Ignition] and [Battery] pin positions reversed for my application. So I had to remove the pins and reverse them. The stereo will function with them reversed but any saved settings such as the radio stations will be lost every time you turn it off. Even though It is supposed to be a direct plug in, which it probably is for most applications, it was not on my 2004 Sprinter. (2) There is a microphone in the head unit storage box for those of you that want to use your cellphone Bluetooth feature. It was very difficult running the microphone through the factory enclosure as there is no access underneath and you have to feed the wire through a very tight and small area inside the enclosure. After that it was not bad at all. The quality of the sound was immediate and did not disappoint. This is a huge improvement over the factory system and well worth the effort. I later replaced the factory speakers with JBL GTO429 4" 2-way Speakers and installed an older Alpine 5 channel amp I had and some Kicker CompRT 40CWRT672 6-3/4" Dual 2 Ohm Subwoofers and made custom enclosures for them. So far I'm very happy with the head unit and now have a real nice sound system.

Pros: Fairly easy install, very clean sound, lots of nice adjustments and options.

This is the third Alpine CDE-143BT I have purchased from Crutchfield. I have one in my wife's Jeep Liberty, one in my Mazda 5 and one in my 97' Suburban. The sound quality is excellent, but what I like the most is the ease of use and fairly intuitive controls. I really dislike controls that require pushing multiple buttons while watching a tiny screen to change mode, source, etc. Having the same unit in all our cars really make it easy to move from car to car and not have to go through a learning curve each time. We also have Sirrius Satellite radio in all 3 cars, plugged into the aux port on the front of the unit. We can then switch the satellite head unit from car to car, which is really convenient.

It sounds good, has bluetooth capability, and fits the dash with no problems. I think it is a little clunky in that it seems to take forever to scroll through the source choices. Great radio at a great price. I'm old school and this new Alpine was easy to lean how to use. I love the bluetooth phone pairing option and all the input options for my ipad ipod and usb. Alpine was the stereo to have growing up in the late 1970s and it still seems to be high quality sound equipment today.

Pros: installation was easy with the wiring adapter the Crutchfield team set me up with.

These guys have there act together period. The Alpine fit right in perfectly and the wiring harness plugged right in and hooked up in 15 minutes flat and was playing really nice. Somebody before me did the hard work of taking the dash apart and installing the kit for the radio. All I had to do was to change out the Din bracket and was good to go. This is a very nice Stereo with some nice features. All I wanted was to shape the music to my ears. This unit has Bass, Mid range, Treble, Fader, and Balance, along with Sub-woofer and a hos of other stuff I just cant remember right now. This unit is really worth the reasonable price Crutchfield charges. Everything you need is included except the butt connectors for the speaker wires. I love it, and thanks guys, I am very pleased. I replaced the OEM unit in my '05 Ford Escape with this unit and I'm thrilled with the sound and features. Sounds great and no more having the reach for my phone when it rings. What I don't like it the unit is blindingly bright at night. Yes, it does dim when you turn the headlights on, but barely. I solved the problem with a small piece of window tinting. Right now I can easily take the tinting on and off to suit my needs, but if you can find just the right amount of tint you can leave it on permanently. Otherwise, the instructions that came with the mounting kit were bad, kinda like a 3D puzzle, but once assembled the kit was a perfect fit. Also, the quality of the unit does not seem as tight as as an Alpine I got 5 years ago for another car, although the unit works very well. Plays Pandora and all music wirelessly with no problem and it's easy to move through the menus on my iPhone 4.

Pros: Incredible features for the price and works very well.

Cons: Way too bright at night. Solved with some window tinting.

What I am so impressed about is all the features this unit has for such a low price. The blue tooth was a little sticky to get started with my android but once going it sounds great! A feature I really need because I drive a stick.

    Pros: Value Sound features

Cons: If you have a BMW you will have to modify the basket! I used a dremel tool to cut out the plastic! With the filter, steering wheel adapter and harnesses there is alot to jam in there. Also I ended up putting the microphone on the scosce plate because I did not feel like ripping the dash to thread it to the drivers side windshiled coulom. I used velcro and attached it to face plate.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really love Alpine components, and have an older CDA-9887 in my car along with two of their PDX amplifiers. So when it came time to upgrade the factory setup in my girlfriend's car Alpine was on the shortlist. After comparing a few Alpine and Pioneer products I decided that the CDE-143bt was a perfect fit both from a functional aspect as well as an aesthetic one. It's got all the features she needed and none that she didn't. Installation was straight forward in the 2009 Gallant, but I did run into one issue and this meant a call to Crutchfield for assistance. This is where I take a moment to commend Crutchfield on great customer service. My call was answered immediately, no phone tree to navigate, and the tech representative I spoke to was courteous and knew his stuff. I told the tech the symptoms (sound only coming from front tweeters & rear speakers) and he looked it up quickly and let me know that there was a factory amp that needed to be bypassed in this car, he sent me pictures of the amp, the harnesses connected to it and a list of which wires I would need to tap into. You should absolutely factor in Crutchfield's great service when considering your purchase. Sure I could have found the answers online on some random forum, but who wants to do that when you can get a quick answer that you know will work? not me that's for sure. So minus that small hiccup the installation went smoothly. The sound quality was clearly improved and the girlfriend is happy. A+++

My wife accidentally threw away the faceplate to the Kenwood unit I had installed in our Honda CRV. I found out that the faceplate costs a lot to replace. I figure I'd check with Crutchfield to see what was available as a new unit. I wanted Bluetooth, HD radio, axillary & usb inputs, ease of use (my wife is technologically challenged) & quality sound. I found this Alpine CDE-143BT. It fit ALL of my needs & costs less than a faceplate! The Kenwood was nothing but a pain in the ass anyway, so I'm actually glad she trashed the faceplate! The Alpine sounds awesome right out of the box & any adjustments were simple & intuitive. Has all of the important bells & whistles with none of the aggravating hoops you had to jump through to adjust or even change settings in the Kenwood at a fantastic price . It makes me wonder if she threw the Kenwood plate away by accident or just threw it out on the highway in disgust! Either way is fine by me!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this unit in my Chevy Express cargo van. Fairly easy install, sounds really good. Its got a lot of features I really appreciate, but with one fairly large downside. Probably the worst menu navigation I have ever experienced on virtually anything ever. I know there is a lot going on here, but how on earth the designers at Alpine came up with this is beyond me. You can read the manual over and over while you sit in your car and still get confused. Its like a twisted game of finding the menu you want, and trying to understand how you did it and wonder if you will ever find it again. I dread the day I have a passenger try and find something on there and attempting to explain it to them.

Pros: -Easy to Install -Lots of features -Sounds great -Easy to connect with other Alpine products

Cons: -Difficult interface and menu navigation

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

1998 Oldsmobile factory radio with tape unit died so I wanted something with Bluetooth. Found it great that Crutchfield not only was giving you the radio, but the harness, faceplate, and antenna needed to install. I was replacing a 4 din slot and wanted to make the most of the space so I bought an aftermarket faceplate that had a pocket and installed the radio in my car. Crutchfield even supplied my cars mfg wiring and for the most part it was correct. I did have to ohm out a few of the wires as the colors didn't match, but not a big deal. I soldered the harness to the radio harness and plugged it into the factory harness and it worked without any problems. Sounds good and great value for a stereo with Bluetooth. So far, my Pandora kicks in when I'm in the car and when I leave it shuts down until I'm back in the car and it starts up again. Phone works great and it wasn't that big of a deal to run the mic up through the dash and along the side paneling and along the top panel. Aux works well as does the USB for music sticks. Volume leveling is great since each device levels were different. General settings were easy to navigate and setup clock and other things like the display. My wife likes it so much she wants me to install one in her Jeep. Like someone else said, for some reason, I can't get Google Maps to work over the stereo.

Pros: Included hardware and wiring needed to install with instructions for make of vehicle. Good value, easy operation.

Cons: Navigation doesn't come across the stereo for some reason.

Great sounding receiver. Solid construction. Easy to install.

Pros: I had a 5 year old Alpine in my old truck that still sounded and worked great but didn't have Bluetooth. Bought a newer truck and went with this unit. Sounds great. Mega improvement over the stock AM/FM it replaced. Don't have to crank the Bass way up to have it sound good. The Bluetooth hands free functions very well with my Samsung S5. Incoming and out going voice quality is very good and the BT music playback is excellent. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this unit to my friends.

Cons: The SEARCH function seems limited by the number of characters it can display . Cant be used while driving. I need to sit down and play with it to get the hang of it! This issue maybe related to the file structure of Windows Media Player and the fact there are 260+ albums in the library?

great stereo. fit perfectly in my 97 gmc sierra. Bluetooth pairing works almost flawlessly and the included mic is very clear. I have 3 minor problems with this stereo. When you pair a something over bluetooth it wont play the sound through your speakers, so you have to shuffle through the sources to fix this and go back to Bluetooth audio. If you receive a call and have music on fairly loud the ringer for your phone will pierce your ears, it needs to be more quiet. I play music through a flashdrive and the titles for the songs do not appear too well. Other than these 3 minor things this is a perfect stereo that I would purchase again.

Pros: Sturdy, feels heavy, easy to operate, many sources to play audio

Cons: ringer too loud, occasionally bluetooth audio glitches

I bought this unit as an upgrade to my daughter's factory tape deck in her 90's model Ford Ranger. WHAT AN UPGRADE! Her truck has power everything, but most features of the Alpine weren't available for it in 1994. The head unit was easy to connect to her iPhone via bluetooth. The FREE wiring harnesses made it a snap to integrate the Alpine into the Ranger's factory wiring. The sound is great, no matter which source you're using.

Pros: Bluetooth for hands-free phone calls and music streaming. USB and 3.5mm auxiliary inputs 3-Band parametric equalizer Price Sound quality Free support and installation accessories from Crutchfield

Very impressive stereo. Installed in my daughter's 1999 Jeep Wrangler. Very easy installation. Connected easily to her I-Phone. She loves it. I like knowing she can now use her phone hands free. One note on installation: This has an external microphone for use of the phone. We completed installation and could not get the outgoing voice to work on her phone. Called Crutchfield and he informed me about the microphone. For some reason it is packed in the case for the detachable faceplate. I would have never looked for it there. Had to take the unit back out to plug this in and reinstall. Not a huge deal, but wish we had found it earlier.

Pros: Great sound, Great looks, Hands Free Phone use

Cons: Packaging of the microphone in faceplate case

Wanted to upgrade the factory receiver in a 08 Ram 1500. Install was easy, instructions provided by Crutchfield were spot on. Sound is very good, better than what I had, bluetooth phone works perfectly. And I saved over $80 by not buying from an installer. (Sorry local business...) Looked at higher priced models, but for life of me couldn't figure out why I would need them. Had to splice a lot of wires thanks to Chrysler's odd wiring set up, but adapter worked as it should.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this receiver to add iPhone capability to my wife's Jeep Liberty. I chose this model for its ease of use. My wife doesn't like change I was taking a risk swapping out her stereo but I wanted to give her hands free calling. We recently bought a Bose Bluetooth speaker and she loved it. This receiver has the ability to work the same way with Bluetooth audio streaming and it works really well. I added the steering wheel control adapter and bought it all from Crutchfield for the high quality install kit. There is one catch with the harness adapter as there is one extra wire on the Alpine harness. I matched all the colors and it turns out that it's actually the blue and white wire that needs to connect to the blue wire on the factory harness otherwise the radio works but the CD ans IPod functions don't. I found the answer with a quick online search. I haven't changed the factory speakers (yet) but it sounds really good! My wife is thrilled with it and I'm happy I can call her now without worrying about her rummaging through her purse to find her phone while she's driving! Wisconsin roads just became a little safer!

Pros: Value - Features for the Price Bluetooth Audio Streaming Ease of Use Sound Quality Easy steering wheel control connection with 3.5mm plug Crutchfield install kit

As usual Alpine delivers! I have had many stereo installs over the years as I am almost 40 years old now, I no longer want a fancy computer for a head unit. I simply enjoy ease of use with great quality sound, as well as build and adjustability. This may be the flat out best bang for buck radio on the market right now! Would certainly buy again. Was going to upgrade the wives radio in her vehicle, but we just went a bought her a new model Chrysler 200S AWD and it came loaded with OEM Alpine 10 speaker system, including tweeters, mid woofers , and an 8 inch subwoofer powered by a meager 501watt amp, it is mind blowing sound quality, hence there is no need for any upgrade now!

The radio works great. Bought it to replace stock radio in 2001 PT Cruiser. Great to use with my MP3 player. The instructions from Crutchfield, along with the wiring harness and face plate, were great and made installation very easy. Just a word of advice, if the face plate doesn't seem to fit right, fiddle with it and it will move into position correctly; it's just a tight fit.

Pros: Sound quality is great. Like have the CD AND Aux hookup for my MP3 player. Light is not too bright to be distracting.

I was really disappointed with the fact that I have to make it connect to bluetooth on my phone manually every time I get in my truck, but maybe that's just me. I was really hoping that it would automatically do so, seeing as how my friends older Alpine radio does this flawlessly.. but regardless I'm a fan of the sound quality that this unit provides, the controls are fairly user friendly, and it doesn't look bad.

Let's just run down the list. Value - At $129.99 plus all the stuff you need to install it you can't go wrong. Built in bluetooth that works like a champ and streaming BT audio from my droid? Hell yeah!! Sound Quality - WOW!!! My factory speakers actually sound good in my F150! With different ways to adjust the sound exactly like you want it, even cheap speakers can sound good. Ease of Use - Menus are straight forward. None of the submenus go to deep to be confusing. I never read the manual. Didn't need to. Station presets, sound menus, bluetooth settings, etc. are pretty straight forward. Coolness Factor - Who really cares unless your 19? It has a clean look without all the flashing lights that do nothing to make the unit better. I didn't buy it for pretty colors, I bought it for functionality and quality....Which brings me to the final point. Build Quality - It's an Alpine! I expect quality when I buy an Alpine. No surprises here!

Pros: Built in bluetooth with a 10' (foot) cable for the mic you can put anywhere in the vehicle. Straight forward menus that never go too deep to be confusing. Excellent sound quality with enough adjustments to make the cheapest speakers sound good. Not flashy, but clean look that would compliment any interior without alerting thieves.

I like how the bluetooth automatically plays from my android phone as soon as I turn my car on. Right now I still have my stock speakers. But this deck makes my speakers sound better. Sounds very clear. And this deck also works well with my alpine type r subs and my amp. I am very pleased with this deck. And I will keep this for a very long time. In the future I will get aftermarket speakers and the ktp-445 amp. It will sound even better. I suggest any and everyone to purchase this deck. And this is site is the only one that includes the installation gear. This was a great purchase. By the way, shout out to REX. Rex helped suggest this product to me. Radio arrived very fast with all install parts except for crimp caps. I wish they were included or I had known because that caused a special shopping trip to pick up a $2 item. Installed in a 1997 F150 pickup in about 2 hours. The original AM radio no longer had reception, the new radio has good AM reception, as well as FM, with CD, aux. input and Bluetooth. I am new to BT, and was pleasantly surprised that an incoming call caused the radio to power up to accept the call. The controls require some time to learn and the buttons are small, but that is not unique to this unit. The display is bright enough to see in the day. The clock goes off when the unit is off (I can't figure out how to keep it on, which I would prefer). The sound is superior to the original radio, even with the original speakers still in place. I recommend this radio as a good value, and Crutchfield provides all that is needed (parts, directions -- except for crimp caps) and does it very quickly for a fair price.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed the unit in my 2004 Dodge Stratus and the difference in sound clarity, accuracy, power, and overall quality is absolutely amazing VS OEM. I only changed the head unit and my car now sounds like it has an entirely new sound system. I was initially a little weary by the lower RMS wattage vs. Kenwood, but it turns out that Alpine voluntarily has their radios go through CEA-2006 certification which has more stringent tests, while other manufacturers don't and tend to overrate their RMS numbers. You're getting the real deal with Alpine. FM is nice and clear, and the number of connectivity options make this an excellent bargain. Alpine also includes a Mic which I did not see in the pictures provided by Crutchfield. The only minor downside in my opinion is the color illumination cannot be changed to match your car's interior lighting, but I don't really mind because the radio looks sleek and grown up vs some other brands which look somewhat gaudy. Crutchfield support is the best in the business and they provided the install kit and harness for free. I'm extremely happy with both companies. Thank you!

w3tua from Wichita Falls, TX on 8/11/2014

I bought this back in December of 2013 but didn't get around to installing it until spring. Wow! This head unit sounds great in my '99 Chevy S10 pickup using stock speakers. I have a powered subwoofer in the back of the truck to enhance the low end. I've always thought Alpine equals good quality and this unit doesn't disappoint. Now that I've paired it with my Samsung S3 via Bluetooth, it's even better. I stream music and talk hands-free with no problems. I've also loaded a 32GB USB flash drive with music and play it as well. My future plans are to add a set of Alpine speakers to replace the stock ones and also install an Alpine amp to take it to the next level.

Pros: Great value, Bluetooth hands-free, nice clean output

Cons: It can't be perfect but I can't find anything I don't like about it.

We love Alpine stereos so we knew this would not let us down. We put it in our 1964 Nova and it's perfect. We did have to get an additional bracket since we didn't want to cut up our dash but that came free with the purchase of the stereo and looks great in the car. It has all the features we need, Bluetooth/hands free, USB, CD. We didn't go wrong with this purchase.

I had originally purchased a Pioneer digital media receiver for my my 2006 accord and after testing it for a few weeks returned it for poor sound quality (was impossible to get full sound without it sounding over-processed). For only $20 more and with a cd player this Alpine worked a LOT better and without all the "dialing in" the pioneer was requiring. I found this unit works best when the "MX processing" is left off and that the bass/mid/treble adjustments are used instead. The parametric EQ adjustment is a nice touch, especially for the bass side of things. The Alpine a lot cleaner looking and better made than the Pioneer i had tried as well. Overall I'm very satisfied for this price point. I just ordered the 445A power pack amp to add in and we'll see if that helps even more.

    Pros: Looks, Sound Quality

Cons: The menus take some getting used to. It's very easy to reset your shuffle order by accident using USB audio.

Volume knob and buttons seem solid and tight. Interface pretty simple and everything seems to work well. Sound quality was noticeably improved from my older jvc head however this is also surely due to installing the ktp-445A amp at the same time. Overall very satisfied and would buy again.

    Pros: Great unit!

Cons: My only slight qualm is that the USB isn't on the back for a more hidden setup however I mainly use bluetooth anyway so not a biggie. Also I suppose the text scroll could be smoother however that is completely aesthetic and completely minimal.

I have had this car stereo for a year now and it still works great. My wife really enjoys using the hands free feature for receiving phone calls. The install took me a little time, but went well. I would recommend making sure you disconnect your car battery before installing the receiver in a Honda Odyssey. I almost had to take the vehicle to the dealer and pay $50 to have a dashboard warning light turned off. Luckily, I was able to reset it without having to go to the dealer. I originally went to a local shop and found a deck that was a different model Alpine that didn't have a CD player and was $30 more expensive plus $100 for installation. I decided to skip the local store and go back in time when I used to install stereos as a high school hobby. This deck came with a master sheet for my 1998 4Runner that showed me exactly where all the wiring went and it was flawless! The removal instructions was so easy to follow and was spot on. Deck worked after I wired everything up. No electrical feedback noise or any other anomalies. Now that I've replaced the deck, I'm finding the need to replace my factory speakers!

Pros: Great sound, simple interface. Minimalist design with no 200 color hues to pick from. Just white labels and a blue knob.

Cons: This deck is supposed to have a high tech bluetooth system but it has a heck of a time connecting to my HTC ONE phone. But I just use the AUX port.

Alpine CDE-143BT one of the BEST stereo unit in the market today, I already installed my first unit on my Honda Civic LX combined with Polk Audio speakers just to give a complete upgrade and what I paid is what I get " Rich Clear Sound" from my front door to the back seat. If ever you played an instrumental music you can really tell that the stereo unit and the speakers really played it in harmony. CD/MP3 works great even in low quality format, 3 Band Parametric Equalizer really gives out the High and Low's of each music you played, BLUE TOOTH connectivity up to 5 units with active connectivity is really a PLUS on this unit I can control each Pandora Files easily , Display is only Two Tone which is White and Blue which I really like! Not Too Fancy on Flashy Light that can be a problem while driving at night. Now I'm installing my second unit for my Toyota Tacoma 04" I installed the same unit so my wife will familiarize her self on each button and menus, same as expected easy installation and very good sound quality, My newly installed CDE-143BT will be matched with my JBL Speakers and the result is superb, Just a shout out to Alpine Company Thank You for delivering the BEST product in the market today. I bought this unit to replace a Kenwood KDC-X895 unit that still sounded great, but the faceplate would stop working leaving me unable to change a radio station or a cd track. The remote was just as useless. I have had Alpine decks in the past so I went back with this one. The sound is really good. I also bought the KTP-445V power pack and use it bridged for the front speakers. I have a 100 watt amp for the back pair. I also bought Kicker 40CS54 speakers for the front based on a recommendation from the rep, but it turns out they can't handle the powerpack. As a result I haven't really tested out the MX and loudness settings since I get distortion especially with bass drum kicks. I am going to upgrade my front speakers with higher wattage ones in July. The CDE143 is a good performing deck with controls laid out really well.

I also have a 450 watt amp on a 15" Memphis sub. It's all adjusted out so it can be turned to full volume; mind blowing clarity and unbelievable loudness. Best setup I've ever had part of putting together. We could probably tweak it to play louder without distortion, but why? This is safe on the speakers and the amps and we don't want it any louder! Thank you again Crutchfield for steering me in the perfect direction to exceed all of our goals under budget!

Very nice head unit. The only problem I had was running the wires for the aftermarket microphone. Whoever designed the plug that inserts into the back of the head unit should know that a 90 degree plug is much harder to pull through tight spaces behind a dash and through interior panels than a straight one! Very Stupid design! I ended up breaking the darn wire because I could not pull it through the dash easily. Nobody wants to disassemble the whole darn interior! It's soooo much easier to snake things behind panels but apparently the people who designed the plug did not realize this. Wouldn't be as much of an issue if it weren't the law to have bluetooth(which is why I bought this model!) Otherwise I love the unit itself and the sound quality is MUCH better than the stock unit in the '98 BMWs!

Radio plays music well, finally got someone to call me, they said sound quality was good, they could tell I was in the car talking over a Radio but thought it sounded as good as any other car radio that they had ever heard, said everything was pretty clear. Owners manual was not helpful at all, if not for son in law and daughters I would only know how to use tuner and play CD's. I had this unit installed in an old car, replacing the factory system, which died. It has great sound and build quality, and is easy to use. I'm using it with an iphone and BlueTooth Siri voice control. Siri works well, but there is a trick -- you must wait three or four seconds after pressing the 'voice control' button on the unit before you speak your command. If you do that, Siri will understand. If not, she misses the beginning of what you said. Other niggles -- the screen sometimes isn't bright enough during the day (but it's perfect at night). And some of the buttons are small and serve multiple functions. That's probably inevitable given the many different inputs that this thing supports (CD, Aux, BlueTooth, Radio, USB). But the manual is clear and written in decent English. There are many settings, many ways to customize the unit, and many things you can do that aren't immediately obvious -- so spending some time with the manual will pay off. One great thing about Alpine is their customer support. They're US-based, amazingly savvy, and happy to spend the time it takes to solve your problem. A model for what customer support should be. All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase, and it has transformed my driving experience.

Crutchfield response on 5/19/2014 Actually, the packing peanuts that Crutchfield uses are 100% biodegradable! Drop one in a bowl of water and watch what happens. They dissolve. They're made up primarily of corn starch, and we make them in our warehouse in big batches, as needed. We fill up this giant hopper and as our supply runs low, we crank up the machine and make more. It's a process we invested in years ago to help protect the environment.

I was always a Kenwood Excelon guy, until I saw the Alpine power pack, which I knew I had to try (see seperate review). And of course, I had to purchase from Crutchfield, as I always do. The unit is built well and looks good. I am not into flashy displays or blinking colors, so this unit is perfect for me. The install was easy, and setup was just as easy. Bluetooth paired with my phone without issue, and does every time I turn the unit on. Music sounds great, and bluetooth audio is clear and not muddy. Calls sound good on both ends, but there are quite a few of adjustments that I still want to play with. The only downfall is the hours of "fine-tuning" my sound that I am looking at for the next month or so. Not the receivers fault though. You really can't beat this unit for the money. And there are plenty of tuning options even without the Alpine app on my phone.

Pros: Clean design, easy to use. Love the rotary control knob. Simple yet effective design. Bluetooth sound quality, and ease of connection.

Cons: It doesn't automatically tune itself to how I like the sound.....just kidding, none of them do that. No cons for me on this unit.

The wireless Bluetooth capability is awesome. Being able to use the head unit to select songs on my Iphone and Ipod is a driving safety feature that is invaluable. I can navigating the different options and audio settings with ease using the large tuning knob. The three band equalization gives me all the crystal clear sound I love to hear. I love being able to balance the volume and tonal qualities between the radio, CD, and Ipod. Very easy to install.

Pros: Price point, features, sound quality

    Cons: None

    Great radio
