Play your CDs and your DVDs on the all-in-one, compact source for mobile digital entertainment — Alpine's DHA-S680. This premium 6-disc AiNet DVD/CD changer offers superior digital playback from an M DAC (96kHz/24-bit) hybrid digital-to-analog converter that delivers crystal-clear, audiophile-pleasing sound.

The DHA-S680 is Dolby Digital® and DTS® compatible — use the optical digital output to connect to an optional digital signal processor and enjoy 5.1 digital surround sound in your car. It can be a breathtaking experience! Or use the 2-channel mix-down RCA outputs to run the audio through an external amp or directly to your in-dash receiver.

Alpine's famous non-skip CD technology combines a rugged chassis, an ultra-stable transport mechanism, Dual Hybrid dampers, and an Intelligent Digital Servo to maintain tracking accuracy. Your DVDs, CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs will play flawlessly in the roughest driving conditions.

You can use your Alpine Ai-NET receiver to control the DHA-S680, but this versatile changer is also equipped for stand-alone operation. Simply run a composite video cable from the video output to a monitor, connect the RCA audio outputs to your receiver (or headphone system), and enjoy up to 6 DVDs in a row! A wireless remote control is included.

Compatibility: This changer is directly compatible with Ai-Net equipped Alpine changer controllers, or it can be used as a stand alone unit.

Disc Compatibility: This unit can play the following discs:

  • DVD-Video: 5" or 3" ("Region 1" or "All Region" DVDs only)
  • Video CD: 5" or 3"
  • CD Audio: 5" or 3"
  • CD-R: 5" or 3"
  • CD-RW: 5" or 3"

DVD Functions: This unit allows you to perform the following DVD/Video CD functions: chapter search, track search, fast-forwarding and fast-reversing, 4-speed slow motion play (forward only), pause, and frame advance.

Dolby Digital and DTS Compatibility: When the optical digital output (standard Toslink) on the rear of the head unit is connected to an optional Alpine digital audio processor, you can enjoy Dolby Digital and DTS surround.

Selectable NTSC/PAL Configuration: This unit allows you to switch the video output configuration to NTSC or PAL according to the type of monitor and the disc recording method.

Pre-stop Function: When the Pre-stop function is used, the position at which playback is stopped is stored in the memory, and playback resumes from that position.

Slow Motion Playback: When playing a DVD or Video CD, you may move forward through the program being played in one of the following slow motion speeds: 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, or 1/16. Slow motion playback is not possible in the reverse direction. No sound will play during slow motion. Also you cannot use slow motion playback when playing back slide shows.

Position (GO TO) Search: You can specifically search for a particular position on the disc. For DVD's, you can search by title number, chapter number, or by time. For Video CD's and audio CD's, you can search by track number and time.

Repeat Playback: When playing a DVD, you can repeat the current title or the current chapter. When playing a Video CD and audio CD, you can repeat the current track or the entire disc.

Parental Lock: Parental Lock allows you to restrict the playback of DVDs that are unsuitable for younger viewers. You can select a parental lock rating from 0-8, which is protected by a 4-digit password.

Down sampling: You can select a down sampling setting of On or Off. When set to On, 96kHz/24-bit, 96kHz/20-bit, 96kHz/16-bit, 48kHz/24-bit, and 48kHz/20-bit signals are converted to 48kHz/16-bit before being passed through the optical digital output. When set to Off, the digital signals are not converted and they are not passed through the optical digital output. In this mode, the signal will only pass through the analog outputs.

Digital Output: You can select a digital output setting of  Auto or LPCM. When set to Auto, the digital output is switched automatically according to the type of audio signals being played. When set to LPCM, the audio signals recorded on the disc are converted to 48kHz/16-bit (for DVDs) or 44.1kHz (for Video CDs and CDs) linear PCM audio signals for output.

Front Panel LED's: There are three LED's that indicate what type of disc (DVD, Video CD, Audio CD) is playing.

Disc Naming: When used with a compatible head unit, the changer allows Disc Naming for 80 discs.

Mounting: This unit may be installed vertically, horizontally, or at an angle between 0 and 90 degrees. There are 5-position angle settings on both sides of the unit that must be set to agree with the mounting angle of the unit.
