Our take on the Alpine HCE-C105

Alpine Authorized Online Dealer

Enjoy an extra measure of safety in your truck, car, or SUV with Alpine's HCE-C105 rear-view camera. This tiny camera installs near the license plate of any vehicle, sending a high-quality, full-color picture to your Alpine in-dash video monitor. You'll enjoy a clear view of everything behind you, especially useful if you drive a larger vehicle. A 5-meter connection cable is included.

Note: Sorry, Crutchfield cannot ship Alpine products to Guam or Puerto Rico.

This is a pretty cool add on especially in the longer vehicles like the Yukon XL that I have. Gives you a very wide view and a clear clean picture even with very low level light at night time. I'm very satisifed and would recommend it.

Works great Easy Install

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this camera on a 10 challenger. Visibillity is not good behind the chally backing up. The install took less than an hour and now visibility is excellent night and day when backing up.

Works with Clarion NX700

JC from Pennsylvania on 8/2/2010

Installed on an 06' F-150 Super Crew with 5.5' bed. I used the Alpine license plate adapter as well. I recommend using blue loctite threadlocker on the screw to seat the cam into the LP adapter. Make sure not to use the threadlocker on the screws that allow the camera to swivel... I also used a spray plasti-dip to coat the connection between the cam and the extension wires and put them in 1/2" wire loom. I ran the wires over the bumper and under the gate, over the spare wheel and finally drilled into the cab on the side of the rear seat. I used a rubber grommet and a silicone caulk to ensure a seal. I mounted the control module on the inside of the lower seat support with industrial velcro. There was plenty of wire (short bed perhaps?) The picture looks great day and night. THe field of view is excellent. The only thing that would have put in the elite category is to have built in side and length markers in the picture. For this price, that should have been included.

Worth it!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

(2006 F-250 Crew Cab Diesel Short Bed) Connected this to a Kenwood DNX-9140. So far, this handles the freezing temps, snow, road salt, and the car wash bays well (NE PA). I pull a travel trailer every where I go and coupling up is stupid easy now. I did research by reading the Crutchfield reviews before my purchase and there are definitely cheaper ones out there, but "you get what you pay for!!" The camera feed cable to the stereo is a standard RCA jack, so don't worry about proprietary connections, fully interchangable. I also mounted this to the ALPINE license plate bracket, which puts my hitch at the center of the screen and seems more of a solid mount beside the sticky back tape. However, I did NOT have enough cable between the control box to the camera (even with the extension cable) to mount in the cab, below the front seat. Instead, I mounted the control box outside the cab, zip-tied on top of the driver's side frame rail just below the rear seat floor board and since the main wire harness runs along side this rail (inboard) the reverse lamp wire is there to tie in to. It is still clean, no wetness from road spray while driving in the rain.

Product works just as see all around the vehicle and I can even see the ball on my tow hitch so backing up is a piece of cake!

Great wide panaoramic view. Easy to install. Could use some spare thought and wire allowance for different applications. Recommended for anyone with a unit compatible.

Overview: Add the Alpine HCE-C105 rear view camera to your vehicle's in-dash monitor for added safety and back out of parking spots with more ease. This small camera (mounting bracket included) can be installed on the rear bumper, by the license plate of your SUV, truck, or car. The high quality color picture is projected right onto your vehicle's in-dash monitor via composite video so you can view what's behind you, right from the convenience of your dash. The Alpine HCE-C105 consists of a Rear View Camera, Hide-Away Box and necessary cable and hardware for installation.

Note: Because the HCE-C105 has a standard composite video output (RCA), it can be used with any monitor with a composite video rear-camera input.

Rear View Camera: The rearview camera assists you (the driver) in checking behind your vehicle by sending images to your vehicle's in-dash monitor, showing conditions behind the car. The camera uses a wide-angle lens, therefore, there is a difference in distance perspective between what is normally seen and what appears on the screen. Also, the images shown by the camera are reversed, so as to appear the same as what is seen through the rearview mirror. The Alpine Rear View Camera offers the following additional features.

  • Weatherproof housing
  • 1/4" color CCD image sensor with a 4:3 aspect ratio
  • 510 x 492 (250,000) effective pixels
  • 1.28mm focal length
  • 138-degree horizontal viewing angle and 105-degree vertical viewing angle
  • 300 horizontal lines of resolution

Hide-Away Box: The included Hide-Away Box transfers the signal from the Rear View Camera to your vehicle's in-dash monitor via composite video. The Hide-Away Box mounts in side the vehicle and consists of the following connections.

  • Power: The Hide-Away Box features a 36" accessory 12-volt and ground lead. The black ground lead attaches to the vehicle's metal chassis, while the 12-volt accessory lead can be wired into your vehicle's reverse light wire so it automatically turns on when you put the vehicle in reverse. There is a 19.5' extension accessory wire supplied.
  • Rear Camera: The Hide-Away Box features a 5-pin  connector which connect the supplied 11.5' connector cable between the Hide-Away Box and the Rear View Camera. This connector cable supplies power and ground to the camera as well as transfers video from the camera to the Hide-Away Box.
  • Video Out: The Hide-Away Box features a composite video connector to connect the supplied 16.5' composite video cable between the Hide-Away Box and your in-dash video monitor. This cable supplies the video transferred to the Hide-Away Box to your in-dash monitor.

Mounting: The Rear View Camera comes supplied with a weather-proof mounting bracket designed to mount to the rear of your vehicle. The mounting bracket features a self-adhesive backing as well as comes supplied with mounting screws. The bracket allows you to angle the camera up or down. The Hide-Away Box is designed to mount inside the vehicle and comes supplied with velcro strips and two-side tape to mount the box to a clean, flat surface of your vehicle. The HCE-C105 also comes supplied with five self-adhesive cable clips for wire management.

  • Camera: Width = 0.925", Height = 0.925", Depth = 1.365"
  • Mounting Bracket: Width = 1.575", Height = 1.125", Depth = 0.775"
