Alpine CDE-HD148BT

The CDE-HD148BT can tune into the improved sound quality of HD Radio stations.

Bluetooth® safety and convenience

Built-in Bluetooth lets you make and take calls hands-free when you're in the car, so you can keep your attention on the road while you talk — no fumbling for the phone or driving with one hand in busy traffic. And you can stream audio from your Bluetooth devices too, with receiver control of basic functions like track up and down. Plus, Alpine's Quad illumination lets you choose from four different colors for the receiver's control buttons for a style that'll work in your car.

Sound quality from the cloud

The Alpine TuneIt App lets you tap into the power of your Android™, iPhone®, and the cloud to customize this receiver's sound output for your car. Download the Alpine TuneIt App and you'll have access to over 3000 custom sound parameters from Alpine's servers. The sound parameters tailor the CDE-HD148BT's 9-band equalizer, digital time correction, high- and low-pass filters, and Media Xpander to tune your system to match your car model, car type, and listening position. And you can share your custom settings with others and even get feedback through Facebook.

Plenty of listening options

The CDE-HD148BT features a handy front-panel auxiliary input and a rear USB port with extension cable. Plug into the USB port for full control over the music stored on your iPhone or iPod®, while Alpine's App Direct Mode lets you control basic playback and view song/artist info from many iPhone music apps. Of course you can enjoy your CDs too, including recordable discs.

System expansion

Want more power? You can add Alpine's KTP-445 Power Pack amplifier, a compact plug-and-play solution that brings this receiver's power output up to 45 watts RMS per channel. Or you can hook up conventional external amplifiers to the three sets of high-voltage preamp outputs to create a killer system for your ride.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Great little unit, could us a tweak.

Doc from Arlington, TX on 9/26/2017

    1999 BMW Z3
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great little blue tooth hd radio and I got a great price from Crutchfield. Haven't even added my amp or speakers yet and it already sounds great on the stock speakers. My only complaint is the buttons are small and hard to read, and the the display is blue. My car has amber dash lights and while the buttons are set to amber (not adjustable) the diplay is still bright blue. Would have been nice to be able to change this too.

Pros: Blue tooth, HD radio, sounds great, easy to install for the most part.

Cons: Cant turn off other sources...have to scroll through them all. Display is blue and not adjustable.

Add a tiny bit of software to adjust the display brightness

    2014 Jeep Wrangler
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very good radio receiver. Bluetooth is reliable and useful. For such a fancy display, there's very little adjustment for how bright it is under various conditions. A receiver of this caliber with a display this nice should have more flexibility for setting the display brightness. In sunlight, it is not bright enough. At night, it is not dim enough. There being two modes of operation (headlights off, and headlights on), there should be accompanying brightness settings for each state.

    Pros: Nice receiver

Cons: Too bright at night, too dim during the day

Great Upgrade to Stock Head Unit

    2010 Honda Civic LX
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed this in my daughters 2010 Honda Civic. Straight forward installation. The only thing extra I had to do was go to the hardware store and buy (4) machine screws that were slightly longer than the ones that came with the stereo. The ones that came in the box weren't long enough to go through the plastic mounting kit and engage the threads on the sides of the stereo. Easy fix though. I mounted the hands free microphone between the gauge cluster bezel and the upper dash. I didn't want to run anything up the A-Pillar due to the side curtain air bag.

Pros: It's an Alpine! Hands free calling works great, streaming music from iPhone via Bluetooth sounds great.

    Cons: Nothing significant.

great unit for the price overall.

Cons: the app for the smart phone to make adjustments is a little clunky.

The menu takes a while to learn but I don't drive the car everyday. Contrary to tech support's answer I was able to plug in a 32GB flashdrive with 2000+ songs and it works great. The 1000 limit must be another model.

Great unit, wish I upgraded a long time ago

    2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this head unit to replace the factory head unit in my 2000 Grand Cherokee. The rest of my system is stock Infinity Gold. I'm really happy with my upgrade and wish I upgraded a lot sooner. The installation was easy. Only trick is that the blue wire on the factory harness connects to the blue / white wire on the alpine harness. Other than that, it was just a matter of matching colors. I also added an ASCW-1 module to retain the factory steering controls. My unit originally shipped with some other unit, but I exchanged it when I learned that the other module required me to hack into the steering column. The ASCW-1 is a better unit. It directly connects to the single PCI wire just like the factory unit did. So that was the only wire I had to cut. Pandora integration works great with my Android. Most of the time I either listen to internet radio or my USB thumb drive. Instead of rear USB, I wish the unit just took a SDHC memory card in the front. Would be a little easier to access. One of the reasons that I bought this unit was for HD radio. But honestly, the HD radio turned out to be disappointing. The only benefit is that many HD radio channels are multiplexed so there are more channels that are not available on analog. However, the sound quality is not as good as analog. It could be, but the problem is that the broadcasters compress the stream so that it sounds like a 48 kbps MP3 or internet audio from the mid to late 90s.

Pros: Lots of great features, steering wheel controls work as good as the factory unit. Not a huge improvement in sound quality, but the 8 or 9 band equalizer allows for more customization. Bluetooth audio sounds great.

Cons: HD radio is a bit disappointing...sound quality just not as good as I expected. If you're on a budget, consider dropping HD radio's sadly not really worth it. Also, I wish the clock would display when the radio is off. I only see it when the radio is on.

Good sound adjustments and large buttons for station or track advance

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm completely happy with this unit. The sound quality is awesome with lots of adjustments available. The buttons are easy to find while driving (I have an older car with no steering wheel controls). My previous stereo, which was stolen, had little track advance buttons in a line at the bottom. This one has larger buttons around the round volume control. It also has a lot of upgrade ability.

    Pros: Great audio adjustments

Cons: The little plastic case for the faceplate doesn't stay closed with faceplate inside

    Works well, easy set up.

    Solid head unit!

Pros: Easy to switch inputs Nice sound quality with 9 band EQ Aux cord input on the front HD radio works well Lots of good Bluetooth and hands free calling features Nice

Cons: Only has like 5 colors to choose from No USB input on the front (it has one in the back) The fuse is only 10 amps, so if you want to hook up a power pack amp in the back of the unit you have to wire it to the battery. Bluetooth doesn't want to pair with iPhone 7

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm on my second one of these headunits and I absolutely love it. Sold my last one to a buddy and missed so I had to get another one. Clean sound right out of the box and the tuning features are great. I have this paired with the Sirius XM module and it is a great listening experience. If I'm not using satellite radio I'm using the Bluetooth feature, which is great. I have used other Bluetooth enabled stereos and have found some to cut in and out and not have very clear sound, not this one, it works flawlessly and crystal clear. Also am using the power pack with this head unit and install of the power pack is super simple. Find a place to mount it and just plug the two connectors in and enjoy.

Pros: Bluetooth audio is clean and clear. Tuning features are great, if you need to adjust them

Sounds great, only drawback was that the operating instructions included with it left a lot to be desired. Took some time, but I was eventually able to figure out how to operate the receiver and make all the adjustments to the sound that I desired. It took a few more minutes to figure out how to preset radio stations. These were simple steps that should have been spelled out in the operating instructions. Other than that, have only had it in the vehicle for two days, but am very pleased with it.

I have had this installed for a week now and, once again, I am very pleased with Alpine. The unit gets great reception, the sound is awesome, and fairly easy to use. Of course, Crutchfield made the install easy with all the parts and instructions specific to my vehicle. I would recommend this unit to someone else.

Pros: Ease of use, sound, Bluetooth quality.

Cons: Alpine app for tuning is a little clunky.

Very nice unit for the price. I needed a replacement unit for an old BMW with amber lighting, and this fit the bill. Fantastic features for the $. I am also very impressed with the ease to use the controls while driving. My old Kenwood was a pain with tiny buttons and non-intuitive controls. This Alpine seems easier to adjust at speed. I wish the text was also color adaptable, stays on blue.

Pros: Big features in a single DIN, easy to use controls.

    Cons: none.

Really impressed with the amount of features packed into this. As an audio engineer its great to have a lot of control over the parametric EQ (9 bands!) as well as high-pass filtering for the front and rear speakers separately. Plenty of power for what I use it for and it can play whatever I need (from my phone, ipod, radio, cd, etc.).

Amazing receiver. This sounds so awesome and was very easy to install. Normally I buy my cars with premium sound systems. I purchased a Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor for my work. The emphasis on that car certainly wasn't on the audio. My product advisor recommended this head unit and I couldn't be happier. Easy installation, great features, great bluetooth performance and the convenience of Pandora in my car - what more could you want. I actually cancelled my Sirius XM subscription after getting this.

Purchased this head unit approximately two weeks ago. The sound difference it makes through the speakers is amazing. The customizable ability of the eq and the features is very refreshing from other units I have owned. The Bluetooth and ipod features work seamlessly. It is a very straight forward installation and is very simple especially with the great help of the crutchfield representatives that made sure I had everything necessary. I am running two 12 inch subwoofers as well and this system makes it very easy to tune the sub and everything else. Amazing that it only cost as much as it did. Would recommend to anyone who wants a good quality deck with great abilities. Thank you crutchfield.

Pros: Everything about this unit is great. The sound quality it puts out has to be one of its greatest highlights along with the customizable eq for every setting from radio to ipod.

Function is great, I have not complaints there. The biggest problem I have with this unit is that you can't see the time and artist/song at the same time. You can see either the source/time, or artist/song, switching between the two by pressing the display button. Plus, the display is impossible to see if the sun is out.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been testing the unit for a couple days and overall it's really impressive. The sound is crisp and clear, with expressive detail in the audio production. I have tested both BT and Aux inputs from a Samsung Galaxy Note 7. BT is adequate, certainly great for BT 2.0. I would like to have aptX in the unit with BT 4+. But, the Aux input works as well. To my ears, the bass and treble seems clearer when using the Aux input, from the Note 7 via USB-C and an AudioQuest Dragonfly. In that configuration I can hear a lot of detail and punch in my music and podcast voices are very listenable. I like to listen to podcasts at 2x speed, so clarity is important and this unit fits the bill as well as my other Harmon Kardon unit, and it's much better than the factory unit in my Toyota. Pandora, Alpine Tuning, and general phone integration seem fine so far. HD radio is also fine but doesn't seem to get as many stations as I would expect, but I hardly listen to radio anymore so it doesn't really matter. Volume seems really good compared to my other cars, easily goes really loud. Bass is a little weak, I'm having a sub installed soon.

Pros: - Fantastic clarity. - Phone integration is working well. - Like the color change options. - Really easy to setup. - Companion TuneIt app seems to work well, with lots of settings from the community.

Cons: - Lack of BT HD / aptX audio. Alpine should spend $5 and add this to all models. (-1 star) - You'll probably need to reboot your devices to get everything from phone to deck talking.

Instant improvement over my 2005 stock receiver. Yeah! I now have Bluetooth like my wife's 2016! The receiver has four face color illumination choices to coordinate with your interior.

Pros: Bluetooth, illumination choices, Alpine app to tune receiver, mic that allows for hands free talking

Cons: No USB input on face, but does provide a receiving cord that can be used to plug in phone

Best single Din available! I'm especially happy that I bought it while on sale.

Pros: I bought this for the high voltage pre-amp outputs, but loved it for the aux in the front, Blue tooth, USB, and it can still plays all types of cds!

Cons: The USB is in the back, and needed some modification to access it from the front, it came with a 5 ft extension, but I didn't use it. Instead I bought a flush mount kit from ebay and used that to bring it all together.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great-sounding unit and a huge improvement over the stock one. It's very flexible, at the usual cost of complication, but even just fooling around with it got success in basic usage. I'm very happy with it. The buttons are very small for those of us with large hands, and the clock doesn't display while playing anything, but those are small quibbles I knew about from the reviews before ordering it. One support note: The display and illumination flickered when I turned on the vehicle lights, and calling Crutchfield support yielded the advice to disconnect the orange (dimmer circuit) wire and check that the circuit was actually sending 12v. Logical enough, but removing the unit from my F250 Super Duty would have meant removing the entire dash front and disconnecting all eight dash controls, which took a very long time in the installation. So I procrastinated while I thought about that, and then remembered that I keep my dash lights very low. Turning them up a bit stopped the flickering. I mention it here because I don't know whether that would happen with any unit or just this one.

Pros: Great sound, tons of flexibility and customization options, especially the EQ presets.

Cons: Very small buttons, complex to customize.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this head unit to replace the OEM Bose system in a 2000 Yukon while upgrading the speakers to Alpine Type R but leaving the OEM Bose Amp and Subwoofer as I wasn't ready to replace them at this time. This unit has greatly exceeded my expectations but particularly in its Pandora functionality and with other bluetooth features. I have a budget friendly LG Stylo2 running 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) which was released late 2015. My phone has connected with bluetooth each time I've gotten in the vehicle in the two months since the install. I really like how after only about 15 seconds the bluetooth connection is made and if the source is set to Pandora my current channel immediately starts playing. I used the Metra wiring integration device and also removed the separate Bose single disk CD player and installed a replacement pocket which holds my USB cable and the microphone which I attached with a small piece of velcro. The sound quality for phone calls and for music is excellent. Since I do not like the stock Bose Subwoofer in the Yukon I turned it off on the head unit and if I had a criticism of the unit it is that this did not completely silence the subwoofer. However, I installed the Alpline TuneIt app on my phone and used it to turn off the lowest bandwidth range which effectively silenced the subwoofer completely. Plus the overall sound is much better when TuneIt is used.

Pros: Great variety of sources including HD radio, USB, AUX, music CD, and Pandora. The bluetooth and Pandora functions using my phone are excellent. Very good sound quality and the ability to apply 9 band equalization with the TuneIt app. Very good music sound quality and also for phone calls.

Cons: Subwoofer off setting did not completely silence that speaker. Saving and retrieving settings on the TuneIt app is clunky but effecdive.

Had originally planned to keep the stock head unit in my Jeep for a "stock appearance" to deter theft. I've already upgraded all my speakers and added a compact powered sub under the driver's seat and have generally been happy with the overall sound although I knew adding an aftermarket head unit would improve the overall sound. I've just finished installing this and have done some basic setup and tweaking. My initial impressions are very good. Nice sound quality. A wide range of sound adjusting options for a single DIN unit, and at the current price, this is a bargain with everything this unit can do. If you're looking for a single DIN unit and are more interested in sound quality and sound adjustment options than a lot of other things that other head units tailor to, you may want to consider the CDE-HD148BT

Pros: Three pair of 4 volt pre-outs, detachable face, multitude of sound adjustment options, switchable 4 color illumination.

Pandora feature works flawless! Iphone works very well with this head unit all around. Installation was very easy as long as you have the right tools and a little mechanical know how. I would recommend this radio to anyone who is looking for a premium sound option but is shopping on a budget.

This is a great product at a very affordable price from Alpine. It was easy to set up and adjust the 9-band parametric equalizer, crossover etc. The preset equalizer settings sound great but I like the versatility of the parametric eq. This definitely sounds better than the Kenwood I had in my F-150. The sound is much fuller from low to highs. I don't have an external amp or component speakers, just 2-way MTX 6x8 in the doors but I love the way the Alpine brought the speakers to life. Alpines' Tune-it App is great. I like that you can adjust the eq via smartphone and try other peoples settings.

Pros: Great sound, easy to use, adjustability and value.

Cons: I wish you could make eq changes via Bluetooth and control Pandora via Bluetooth with the iPhone like you can with an Android device.

Had a problem with a 3 yr. Kenwood receiver KDC-BT752HD - wouldn't power off properly - so ordered this unit. Installation was a breeze, although had to use a different wiring harness, and the bracket that the receiver chassis slides into was different - but had already installed the single DIN adapter when I did the Kenwood install. My main requirements for a receiver are HD radio, Bluetooth for hands free calling, CD player. This unit has a more sensitive HD tuner than the Kenwood, and it allows you to save the HD station as a preset- The Kenwood required cycling through the sources to activate the HD, with no option to save HD setting. The external microphone is a big improvement over the built in one in the Kenwood. Buttons are still small - a general problem with all of these receivers, but control is a bit more intuitive. Sound is great - even using stock speakers.

Pros: Bluetooth connection - good phone audio, ability to save HD radio settings, attractive styling, excellent sound quality, good graphics= including signal loss indicator for weak HD reception.

Cons: small buttons for control. Instruction manual is a bit cryptic, although they did include an instruction CD - which I've yet to look at.

Over all it was great for the price, the sound was a huge improvement over the pioneer deck it replaced. Not a huge fan of the menu structure. It is a little bit scattered through out the radio. The 9 band eq is in a totally different section than the normal Bass and Treble settings. Alos there is no mid eq on the basic settings. The nine band eq is awesome once it is dialed in and sounds , well it sounds like a alpine , which is awesome. The app for tuning is a pain to navigate also. Once it is set it is good to go. I have JBL GX502 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers in the back , and JBL GX862 6"x8" 2-way car speakers in the front doors, weird design I would have thought that would be backwards but it is a convertible running with a JBL GX-A604 4-channel car amplifier - 60 watts RMS x 4, then kicker Kicker 10CVR102s CompVR 10" subwoofer with dual 2-ohm voice coils in a bandpass box. The entire set up sounds amazing with the Alpine CDE-HD148BT. I could not get the Mic to work with the radio at all. That is the only major thing I have complaints about.

Pros: 4 volt pre amps Bluetooth connectivity is really good - It has not dropped out once and automaticly connects once set up Easy to use for day to day use - Hard to dial in to get everything tweaked and dialed in The price is pretty on point for the other head units in the same price range

Cons: Could not get the Microphone to work at all - Think I got a bad mic stright out of the box The app is a pain if you try to use it, cool idea though but over all it was easier to dial it in from the head unit itself

I've owned a long line of Alpine car decks and always been impressed. This one adds some new features, including Bluetooth and a direct USB connection. My earlier decks were Bluetooth-ready and required a special cable to connect an iPod of similar USB device. Setting this guy up was easy and sound quality is excellent. Adjusting settings is a breeze. The Bluetooth connection to my iPhone works flawlessly, though I have to say I only use it to stream music. Another impressive product from Alpine.

Pros: Great sound, intuitive menus, high value

    Cons: None

Pros: Simple to hook up and use and switch from all sources.

Cons: does not dim with light control. would be nice if it could dim with the light controls.

Had all the features I wanted, easy to install, pretty intuitive. Very easy to switch between inputs (bluetooth, USB, etc.). Only thing I haven't figured out yet is radio station presets and how to get to the HD stations. Probably will figure that out in all of 30 secs once I actually take a minute before driving off to wherever.

Pros: easy install, easy to switch from one source to another, looks good.

Cons: Slightly difficult to navigate radio stations, but I mean, what would you expect from a 1-DIN.

My second Alpine head unit. My first lasted me 15 years and was still going but didn't have all the new features of today. My only problem with this receiver is the way it automatically starts up with my music as soon as you turn it on. Very annoying.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was in the market for a new head unit so I could enjoy my commute and add some much needed features to my car stereo like hands-free phone calls, Bluetooth connectivity, and Pandora while still having a CD player. I wanted a head unit that did not look gaudy, but had good EQ options. I chatted with a least three different Crutchfield advisors and narrowed it down to this unit. I have been using it for about one month and overall am pleased with the unit. I'm hoping for a firmware release from Alpine to even out the AM/FM tuner volume discrepancy. Also, not all TuneIt options area available on this unit. I would buy Alpine again, but would also shop around.

Pros: Once the unit was installed and tuned, the sound was very good. The 9-channel EQ is nice when accessed through the TuneIt app. There are a few minor EQ adjustment options for each source. The different input options are good. I really like the Pandora control of my Android phone. The built quality is good. The look of the unit is nice and clean/functional although it is a bit bright even when the auto dimmer is enabled (I suppose this means that the display does not wash out like other units).

Cons: The Bluetooth phone calls are a bit noisy according to people I have called. I have had to re-"pair" my smartphone once already reset the Bluetooth connection (head unit would show a connection to the phone even when the phone was not connected) - so far so good. The 9-channel EQ applies to all the input sources so some compromise is required to get generally good sound from every source. There is only one button to cycle through the input sources (6). The AM tuner is much louder than the FM.

Nice deck for my truck, bought it to replace a CDE-BT143 which replaced a CDA-9886 and before that a CDA-9856. I do find the sound to be nice and clear through Alpine SPR-60C components and SPR-68 6X8's, specifically the midrange and highs. I also have a KTP-445A that I easily hid In the dash that definitely helps with clarity at higher volume. The available timing control and crossovers come in handy as the KTP doesn't have its own and timing correction is necessary for excellent sound at least from the drivers seat. The controls and menus take a little time to learn but what deck has exactly the same menu and button layout as your previous one? Build quality is ok I guess, not many things IMO are built the way they were 10 years ago. I haven't finished my sub box but that will be the last addition and Alpine's subwoofer controls have been an extra I like having. Also for me the rear USB input wasn't a problem because the extension cable provided more than enough extra length to route it through the dash easily. The Bluetooth function works fine, tried it with a 5th gen IPod, iPhones 4s and 6s, a Samsung 6edge, and an iPad.

Pros: USB port isn't positioned to leave your flash drive or phone cable etc sticking out of the front of the unit where it can be snagged or bumped into. Different color displays?

Cons: That 9 band parametric EQ is great but for an OCD person like me you will be touching it all too much trying to find the "perfect" setting haha

Holy cow a 50+ page Instruction booklet. I've not yet printed the darn thing out and sadly I'm a paper reader guy. The Alpine CDE-148 is a wonderful head unit. I've had six previous Alpine units over the years in both my wife's car and my truck and all have been fantastic. Sound adjustment are a bit complex but with time even I can master them. If I tune into my favorite start up, Terrapin Station by the Dead, the quality sound can still send me to a favorite space. My only negative factor is that this unit won't drive me home.

    Pros: Great

Cons: Complex sound adjustment for this older gentleman.

With the help of tech support, installation was simple. The sound quality is perfect for my Volvo sedan. I'm still learning the nuances of the receiver, and unfortunately, this means several trips to my desktop computer to go through the manual via the CD-Rom. One disappointment is that the AM reception sucks. I've retraced my steps to make sure I didn't miss anything, and still have virtually no AM reception.

Pros: Attractive display, illuminates nicely in my dash, sound quality is excellent, BT Audio is crisp, SiriusXm comes in flawlessly

Cons: Control panel / buttons, can be adjusted in one of 4 different colors, but the display panel cannot be changed, stays a light blue. So a gave it a coolness factor of 3 stars. Otherwise everything is great - you buy Alpine for the sound.

I broke down and decided to buy an aftermarket head unit because I wanted Bluetooth, HD radio, Pandora control, and the ability to answer/make phone calls via the radio. Alpine has always served me well and I had a variant of this model in my old truck. This stereo has all of the makings of a perfect unit that does not come with navigation. It does everything that the higher priced models can with 4 volt preamp outputs for all 3 channels that I needed. So far, I like the functionality of the radio, but it does take some slight reading to get through it all. I would recommend this radio to anyone wanting the options that I was looking for. I can even add Sat for $50, but I don't like paying a subscription at the moment, so I did not opt for the kit at this time. For the price, this is the perfect DIM unit, take care.

Pros: Great looks, wonderful colors, and amazing capabilities/options for upgrades and utilization. You can customize nearly everything through this unit.

Cons: It is tricky to set up and you must set the EQs for each source (i.e. HD Tuner, Pandora, Bluetooth, etc...).

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Alpine has hit it out of the park in my opinion with this system. For me it is the right combination of price, features and performance. The Alpine brand has always been a leader in sound and build quality so I felt safe ranking them high in my selection criteria. The feature set is what finally sold me. I wanted a system with Bluetooth capability for hands free calling and audio playback from my smart phone...which is a Samsung S4 not an iPhone which all the brands feel compelled to market too. In addition, I wanted an external microphone option for enhanced clarity during my car conversations. The Bluetooth audio is fantastic, I stream from Rhapsody and the Alpine handles it flawlessly while even displaying the Artist, Song current being played. The same is true for my USB drive content. You can choose the song details you want to display. I will admit, the two line display and the user interface to alter some of the functions can be a bit nested and cumbersome but I new that in a single DIN system this would be unavoidable. That is why I rank the Ease of Use criteria lowest due to the single DIN design, not what Alpine has done. Phone calls are handled effortless with the Alpine fading out the music to allow voice interaction with my phone. It works great! I am very satisfied with this system. If you are looking for the ultimate visual experience this is not the deck for you but if great features and performance is what you are looking for, here you go.

    Pros: Features, Sound Quality

Cons: Nested Menus of a single DIN system

Wanted a new system to work with my phone as the factory radio in my 2006 Wrangler Rubicon was starting to have problems. This unit wasn't plastic y or cheap looking like a kid's toy like some head units and the Alpine name is generally respected. As for the performance, I needed the best output capability I could find in a receiver as I could not add an external amp without extensive rewiring and changes. This thing delivered in spades and exceeded my expectations for a replacement. The Bluetooth works flawlessly with my Android phone. It gets louder and sounds way better than the factory unit. I was torn between HD and regular radio and I extremely happy that I got the HD. Controls are not bad and most are intuitive but nothing is perfect. I compared different models of Alpine and other brands and this had everything I was or might be interested in. there may have been some other similar features on the other units but the main thing that sold me on this one was the firsthand knowledge and confidence in the superior build quality of this unit by the Crutchfield technician when I asked how this compared to others not costing as much.

I have had this receiver for almost a year now. It is an overall great product. The only feature I have ever really used is the bluetooth. I get in my car and start it up, and the receiver links to the iPhone 5 in my pocket right away and I can control the music and the phone straight from the deck. There is only one problem. After almost a year of use, the bluetooth doesn't work anymore. The receiver won't pair with anything. I have tried resetting, and I have followed all directions and I can't get it to work. I won't bother trying to fix it. I don't plan on putting any more money into my current vehicle. I plan on getting a new one. Everything else about the deck is great. This will probably be my last Alpine deck. I have had two previous Alpine decks and they were all great. I just think it's time for something different.

I have been running Alpine head units for about 14 years now, and every time I upgrade, I am just blown away and speechless!!! Feature packed awesomeness!!! Now I am running JBL amp, and MTX Thunder 8000 12" sub, and this deck lets me adjust anything and everything on the fly as I see fit, I couldn't ask for anything more!!!

Pros: Awesome features, controls every aspect of your system right at your fingertips, the sound quality is second to NONE!!! Color changing face :-D , easy installation, usb and aux hookups, 4 volt preouts for amp installs!!! LOVE IT!!!

Cons: as amazing as this unit is, I often find it to be a bit time consuming to navigate through all of the features, that is one thing I wish they would have added easy buttons for.

Recently installed this stereo in my 02' Accord. I was looking for a stereo with iPod connectivity, and Bluetooth. This unit exceeded my expectations. Its a great all around receiver, plus it comes with HD Radio which makes listening to the radio so much better. I also am impressed by how great the hand-free calling feature works. I haven't had anyone complain about the phone breaking up while using the hands-free feature. The unit's sound output is much better than my stock stereo and I haven't even configured the Tuneit feature yet. With that said, I'm sure the Tuneit feature will make it sound even better.

Pros: Overall, this is a nice higher end receiver that allows for easy upgrades such as adding an amplifier. I haven't yet added an amp, but can't wait to hear the sound improvement. Especially since this receiver has 3 sets of pre-amp outputs pushing 4V each.

Cons: Some of the menus are a little confusing at first. Had to print out the instruction manual included on CD. It doesn't take long to get the hang of it, but once you do you'll realize how easy it is to use.

Overall a great value, combine this with Crutchfields customer support, and you will not be disappointed.

Pros: sound quality, easy install and set up. Multiple interface applications.

Cons: BT sound quality on iPhone could be better.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this radio thinking it was an upgrade. I was looking for HD Radio features, this one has it and as a bonus Pandora and Bluetooth. HD Radio is great, however the text display should list artist and then song, this displays station and artist, click view button and song and genre. Now BT, maybe I have a bad unit but I don't like it. BT connected first time and went to Pandora on my HTC One and it played thru car speakers, now, I'm using the BT source on the HU. Stopped working after I turned off HU and on again, should connect automatically but didn't. Had to force connect, didn't work, turn off/on BT on both devices, didn't work. Delete device from HU and phone and pair again, just to work for couple minutes and lose sound again, that was BT Mode on HU. The HU has Pandora as a source and that didn't work at all. I'm thinking its my HTC One, tried my wife's iPhone 5 and same scenario, worked initial time but after power cycle HU, same problem. USB function, that is ok if you use flash drive, but HTC One charges battery and plays locally stored files. iPhone charges also and plays locally stored songs but no Pandora control on either cell phones. Hands-Free is cool when BT is working, was able to hide microphone behind dash for a clean look. So I don't know if the HU is defective, marketing lies or bad cell phones.

Pros: HD Radio sounds great, 6 preouts, came with microphone and USB ext . Lights are changeable

Cons: Bluetooth. No Pandora control thru USB, as advertised. HD Radio text.

This unit really improved the sound quality of our Sorrento. The basic functions of the unit are easy to use and I love the old time radio station push buttons. On the head unit in my truck I hate having to scroll up and down to change stations. We're still learning about all of the other features.

Pros: Easy to set up for basic use.

Cons: A DVD for the manual... really??? It's kind of a pain to have to go in the house to read the manual and then back out to the car to set a function.

This unit is a great value in terms of bluetooth functionality for media streaming from your phone, handsfree calling using the microphone and overall stereo audio quality. Would definitely recommend.

Pros: Great sound. Excellent call quality wtih the bluetooth handsfree calling feature. People I'm on the phone with often ask me if I'm at home while I'm talking going down the highway.

Cons: It's a small nit, but the options on displaying the clock are not greatest. For example your only option for the clock is to have a small display at the bottom of the display. The manual is not that good.

But most important of all, she is no longer complaining about the Jensen that was in the vehicle when we bought it.

Pros: Makes my wife happy. No more complaining.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very impressed with the Alpine 148-BT head unit. I had an Alpine head unit in my previous vehicle, however it was 10 years old so I did not remove it when I sold it. In the new truck (new to me), one of the first things I missed was listening to my iPod in the car. I really enjoy the line in controls for the iPod that lets me choose whether to control the iPod with the head unit or via the iPod. With the digital line in the sound quality is excellent. I am really amazed at the better sound I am able to get out of the stock speakers. One of the main reasons I purchased this particular unit is for the Bluetooth connectivity and the ability to receive SiriusXM radio (with an additional part SXV200 v1)). The hands-free integration with my old iPhone 4 is flawless and have been told the sound quality is better than using the phone by itself. In the near future I plan to replace the factory speakers with a set of Alpine SPR-68's and also install Dynamat sound deadening to my doors. I would also like to add the SiriusXM connection. I gave four stars for value because Crutchfield charges more for the product, however I have purchased from Crutchfield before and appreciated the "extras" to help with installation. While I received all of the necessary parts, the installation instructions were not as thorough as before and I had to watch a few YouTube videos (not from Crutchfield) to help with the install. I highly recommend this head unit I installed in my 2000 Ford F-150 XLT

Pros: Great sound. Flexible options (connectivity and colors). Easy to navigate.

Cons: Installation instructions/guides were not as thorough as I have received from Crutchfield in the past.

Great head sounds very good very powerful. The 18w this head puts out are big strong watts. The display is a bit plain but the ability to change the color to match your gauge display is nice. Having the song info from hd stations is a great plus. The controls are not that hard to use but could be a little more intuitive. Over all this has been a very nice upgrade to my car and would recommend this product to friends and family.

I never write reviews. But after talking with advisor Jackson at Crutchfield about a replacement for my kenworth semi truck, I had to write a review about this receiver. Although I was leaning toward Kenwood, Advisor recommended the Alpine cde hd148bt. This is the most awesome receiver I have ever purchased. After installing it with factory speakers, it sounded like I replaced the speakers also. Great receiver. You will not regret purchasing this radio. Oh I almost forgot to mention this. In the past I made alot of my purchases from another retailer and you may not find the cheapest price at Crutchfield, but you will not find better customer service, or help when you are not sure which product is best for you. And the advice you will get from Crutchfield is advice you will not receive anywhere else.

Pros: Tune it app, Sound, Easy to use. And the display is easy to read during the day unlike some other brands

This head unit replaces an older ALPINE I installed 14 years ago and it was pretty much PLUG N PLAY! The Bluetooth is a great add-on to have hands free in my truck as is the support for USB audio, just add your favorite songs to a thumb drive and put it on MIX or play the music in the folder you select! The unit has a bright screen and easy to see, but I think they could do a better job of the menu system on the unit! I also added the ALPINE remote control and it too was easy to use, but wish it was smaller like the one with the UNIT it replaces. Overall a great CD RECEIVER.

Cons: Setup menu could be better!

A nice little unit. Installation was simple, once I found out the trick for installing to an existing Infinity sound system (connect the blue striped wire, instead of the solid blue wire, to the solid blue on the harness!). I also bought an add-on SiriusXm receiver, which hooked up nicely and gave me a lot of sound options. Everything- HD radio, satellite radio, USB music player - works off the headunit, so there's not a lot of fumbling for the right control while driving. Altogether, it has a nice, clean sound. I initially bought it because of the customizable sound options, but I haven't really needed to do much tweaking to get it to sound good. Huge improvement over the stock system!

Pros: Nice, clean sound, simple to use. Works well with my Android and my Sansa Fuze.

Cons: Difficult to set up once installed. A color text display would have been nice. The Android equalizer app requires registration to save any sound customization.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit to replace my old Alpine CDE-133BT, and before that my antiquated Alpine iDA-X305S. Lighting color is ok, but should include a customize able hue through the dial, not just the pre-selected colors. HD radio function seems to jump a lot, just to obtain reception through different frequencies. Radio & bluetooth settings are somewhat confusing to establish, but achievable. For a 2013 product the display could have been modernized like the one in the 149BT or similar to the iDA-X305. When selecting through the "Source" button, there are too many unnecessary selections, even if they were disabled through the general setting they would still appear, this unit should have some kind of smart filter to only show what is actively connected to the unit (for me its just iPod, tuner, & CD). Even with the TuneIt App, this unit is not putting out enough bass (I have Alpine SPR-69s in my car) at lower volumes, my CDE-133BT did better in this area, in fact there's a little bit too much mids/highs. Just to feel the bass I have to crank-up the volume to annoying levels. When viewing phone contacts (iPhone) it will be displayed by first name, even though the phone is set to display by last name first, 133BT displayed as it is with the phone. However I do like the construction, it feels more durable than the 133BT, and doesn't require extra wires and hardware just to have bluetooth like the X305S. All the buttons doesn't have that slushy-crunchy feel to it. Responsive commands.

Pros: Rear mounted USB for a clean console. Built-in Bluetooth. Durable feel. Responsive to command inputs, not sluggish.

Cons: Sound quality is disappointing even with Tune It App, compared to my old Alpine CDE-133BT. Built-in Mid range selector is gone. More modern display similar to HD149BT & iDA-X305S (come on, its 2013, use LEDs).

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My primary need was to replace the Honda (S2000) OEM item to get Bluetooth , SXM 2.0 and better sound quality. In the process I also got Pandora and better connectivity options. I was hoping that the unit would have sufficient power output for such a small interior, but I ended up adding the companion amp from Alpine (KTP-445A). What a transformation! Best mic location is on top of the steering column in front of the instrument panel, not the traditional upper left corner of the windshield. Too much noise from that location with the top down on this convertible. Fortunately the sound suited me with all the default settings as I could NOT get Tune-it to work. Also the AXXESS ASWC-1 fails to control MUTE. Bluetooth pairing was terrible, until I realized that there was something wrong with the original unit. Crutchfield replaced it quickly and without question. Pairs with an iPhone 5 in 10 seconds and the pairing survives power cycling. Purchased an after-market 3-way USB short cable for 8-pin Lightning, 30-pin iPod and mini-USB. Now I have everything I needed. Changed stock speakers for FOCAL PS-165 components. You really need to spend at least as much on quality speakers as the HU to truly get the full benefit of this great HU and amp combo.

Pros: Straightforward install with the SXM module and companion external amp easy to hide behind the dashboard.

Cons: Setup not really intuitive, but read the manual thoroughly and you are good. It's all there. Minor controls are difficult to deal with on the move (too small) so I set up my favorite couple of stations on the first preset of each band selection, because cycling through with the remote control is so much easier (and safer).

This Alpine is very nice. I installed it with a medium value small 5 channel amp. It sounds decent and has the connections I required for car audio. The manufacturer took time to build the unit, it seems to be made of sturdy and not flimsy material. It can be a little time consuming to move between speaker levels and balance/fade. Alghough it sounds great to me I had to use an amp to get the level and sound stage I was looking for. There are plenty of hookups in the back of the head unit. I was able to plug all channels from the head unti in the receiving end of the amp with rca jacks which was very nice, altogether there were 3 sets. It recieves updated versions of media, firmware can be updated, has different colors, you can control speaker volume/balance/fade, and it also charges devices with the usb. I would definitely purchase this unit again if I know now what I did when I purchased it.

I really enjoy the upgraded head unit, even if it is connected to my stock amp. The sound quality really is better than stock. My biggest complaint is the fact that my subwoofer amp is not receiving a strong enough signal from the head unit. Not sure why, but Crutchfield is sending me a new one. So hopefully it was just a faulty unit. I preferred the way the stock units buttons were. These feel a little flimsy. Cant get it to sync with my Android's Pandora and am having difficulty using the TuneIt app. Maybe its just my phone, not sure. These issues are not enough to not buy the unit and I see myself getting another Alpine unit in the future for my other vehicles.

The finest receiver I have ever seen or used. It has the most in depth programing features which seem very difficult initially but become very intuitive after reading & struggling with the instructions after an hour. The radio's sound quality is unequaled. After 35 years I finally found the perfect receiver. You can turn off the receivers built in Amp in a second with the programing if your using the preamp outputs so you don't have the heat build up in the receiver and your not wasting that power constantly which is important to me. I love the fact that the front display can be switched to any of 4 colors in a second with the programing to match the cars own colored dash lights. Alpine gets an A+++ for this receiver. This receivers sound quality literally just blows me away. One of the few times in my life I cannot find something I am unhappy about after a couple weeks.

Pros: It does everything above & beyond my expectations. Every option thought out to perfection except the directions. The hands free blue tooth cell phone interface is excellent! I wish it came with a free remote.

Cons: First you have to print out 60 pages from a CD so your looking at a major book here, but the problem I had, was with their direction & layout. I found it was poor in respect when looking something up and going to that page. Next you try to make an adjustment as described on that page and you can't make it happen. This becomes very frustrating after 5 or 6 try. It never tells you you have to go back to the initial setup program to get to other certain areas of the program you wish to adjust.

TuneIt If you never plan to use the "TuneIt" application, you might like this head unit. The "TuneIt" application will not operate unless the car is not in motion, which uses the GPS. Using my iPhone or iPod, I couldn't convince it that I was not moving and it did not work at all. Getting the "TuneIt" application to work on Android is nearly impossible from the start, but once I did get it going, it seemed pretty useless. Internal Fan This unit has a fan inside it! This makes the unit useless for quiet classical listening while parked. The fan is not an issue on the road or while listening to rock as it isn't super loud, but it is at a high frequency and personally, I find it very irritating.

Alpine makes a good quality car stereo. Sounds great. It is easy to use and setup. The bluetooth connects quickly to my iPhone compared to my Pioneer. The hands free phone sounds and works well. The built-in HD receiver is nice and clear.

    Pros: User friendly

Cons: The only con I can think of is if you disconnect the car battery you have to redo your settings, but that is common with many.

Great but Pandora feature is not working

marquez from El Paso, TX on 5/4/2013

Great HU but the Pandora feature is broken. I know that you can use USB mode or the BT Audio mode to listen to Pandora through your Smartphone but when one of your selling points is inoperable then workarounds don't really matter. I give it a 3 just because of this. All I see when I turn on the Pandora mode is "No Service". I've re-installed the app on my smartphone and I've done the troubleshooting procedure mentioned on the manual. Will be trying to get a hold of an alpine Tech on Monday. 4 stars if it gets fixed. Not giving it 5 stars because that would mean that the system came out of the box with everything working as it should.

Pros: -Great systems for the money -Lots of features - Good sound quality

Cons: -Pandora feature is not working

    Good product

Audio Enhancements: The CDE-HD148BT offers the following audio adjustments to enhance your in-car listening experience.

    • Media Xpander: Alpine's exclusive Media Xpander is engineered to bring out the musical details lost in compressed media, and it is adjustable per source to get the most out of your digital audio media. The Media Expander makes vocals or instruments sound distinct regardless of the music source. You can customize the Media Xpander to suit your personal taste by adjusting the level (0-8) for Bass, Mids, and Highs. The FM radio, CD, USB, iPod, Pandora, Bluetooth, and Aux will be able to reproduce the music more clearly even in vehicles with a lot of road noise.
    • Time Correction: This unit is able to delay the audio signal to the speakers closest to the listener with its built-in Time Correction feature. This effectively creates a perception of increased distance for those speakers. Time Correction allows the listener to be placed at an equal distance between the left and right speakers for optimum staging. You can adjust the distance (0-132.7") of each speaker and subwoofer to the listener.
    • Spatial: This feature allows you to change the soundstage of your music in the vehicle. You can select from three modes.
      • Front Wide: Creates the effect of widening the front sound field by delaying the sound of the front speakers.
      • Rear Wide: Creates the effect of making the front sound image clear and far by delaying the sound of the rear speakers.
      • Off: No effect is applied (default)
    • Source Volume Level: The output level of each source (Tuner, Disc, USB, iPod, Bluetooth, Pandora, Aux) is individually adjustable from -14 to + 14 dB.

Alpine's TuneIt App: The Apline TuneIt app is an easy-to-use sound-tuning app that also offers Facebook notifications. Download this free app (from Apple's App Store or GooglePlay) onto your Apple iPhone (iOS 6.0+ ) or Android smartphone (2.2+) and create a user profile about your vehicle and sound system. Your iPhone must be connected to the CDE-HD148BT via the appropriate Alpine iPod connector cable (500KCU445I/500KCU471I sold separately) or the Dock-/Lightning-cable that came with your iPhone. Your Android smartphone must support A2DP/AVRCP/SPP Bluetooth profiles and be paired with the Alpine receiver. Your iPhone or Android smartphone will also need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi.

    • Sound Tuning: The Alpine TuneIt app turns your iPhone or Android smartphone into a sound tuning interface for the CDE-HD148BT. Follow the simple graphical instructions on your phone to adjust sound settings for your specific vehicle or choose from pre-made settings in the database. Settings that can be adjusted include Parametric EQ, Bass Engine SQ, Crossover, and Media Xpander. As you change settings on your smartphone, you will hear the results, so you can customize the sound to exactly how you want it. You can make and save up to 100 different sound settings in your account, which is helpful if you want various settings to use for specific types of music. After tuning your system, upload your settings to the Alpine Cloud Server to share them with other Alpine fans. You can also check out other user's settings and rate them. The more active you are, the higher your profile status progresses within the app.
    • Facebook Notifications: The Alpine TuneIt app also keeps you in touch with your Facebook friends. When you receive a notification, you will get a visual alert on the smartphone and the head unit, plus a sound alert through your car speakers. The visual notification includes the Facebook icon and the sender's name, with the profile picture shown on the phone. You are then able to listen to the notification via TTS (Text-to-Speech) through the head unit and your vehicle's speaker. You can even "Like" the notification from the head unit's front-panel controls. In order to receive Facebook notifications on the head unit, the Alpine TuneIt app must be the active app on your smartphone.

Note: Access to the Alpine TuneIt app will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or smartphone to connect to the Internet. You will also need to turn on the GPS function of your phone.

Beep Guide: This function will give audible feedback with varying tones depending upon the button pressed. The volume of this feature can be set from 0-7.

    Display Features

Detachable Face: The unit features a single front loading CD face that detaches from the chassis to deter theft. A hard plastic face case is provided to store the detachable faceplate. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can also be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

2-Line LCD: This unit is equipped with a 2-Line white-backlit LCD, so you can easily view AM/FM stations, CD-Text, and ID-3/WMA/AAC tag information.

Text Display: Text information, such as the disc name and the track name, will be displayed if playing a CD text compatible disc. It is also possible to display the folder name, the file name, and the tag information, while playing a MP3/WMA/AAC disc or USB device. This unit can scroll the disc and track names recorded on CD-Text disc, as well as the text information of MP3/WMA/AAC files, folder names, and tags. There are two Text Scroll settings.

    • Auto: The CD text information, the information of folder and file names, and the tags are scrolled automatically.
    • Manual: The display is scrolled when a disc is loaded or when a track is changed.

Variable Color Button Illumination: The head unit lets you choose between Blue, Green, Red, or Amber button illumination. The LCD text will remain white.

Auto Dimmer: This unit is equipped with an illumination lead (orange); when the unit's dimmer mode is set to Auto and the illumination lead is connected to your vehicle's headlight circuit, the display and button illumination will dim to a fixed, preset level whenever the headlights are turned on. If preferred, you may choose the Manual dimmer mode setting, so the display and button illumination is dim at all times.

Demo Mode: This unit has a demonstration feature for its display which can be turned On or Off in the menu.

    Remote Control

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Optional Wireless Remote: The Alpine CDE-HD148BT is wireless remote control ready. Simply add on the Alpine RUE-4202 IR remote (500RUE4202, sold separately) to make it even easier to control the head unit's functions.

I chose this because I have always liked Alpine products and they are reliable. I have an old Alpine in my 94 Accord that I installed in 2004 and it still rocks. I chose this particular model for the amount of features for the price, particularly bluetooth, USB, 9 band parametric EQ and the Tune It App. [ J  May 23, 2016 ]

    Alpine + Crutchfield is a definite WIN-WIN! [ Daniel  Feb 27, 2016 ]
alpine makes a great product. they work forever [ bart  Feb 13, 2016 ]
Alpine is the best! I can control it from my phone! Yes! [ David  Feb 12, 2016 ]
The features I was looking for were 1. A stereo deck that had a 24bit DAC, not a 1bit or whatever it is now days. 2. Bluetooth for streaming music not for phone calls. 3. A decent set of preamp outputs rated more than 2V. 4. A USB port so I can continue to use my 128gb and 64gb flash drives as music libraries. Make sure you reformat exfat file system to Fat32. I used to buy either Alpine or Pioneer decks and have had some decent decks in the past from both manufacturers, just my preference. [ Mark  Jan 18, 2016 ]
Excellent lots of adjustments. [ john  Jan 18, 2016 ]
Alpine's reputation for quality car audio. I also liked the feature set, including the 18w per channel and the ability to adjust the display colors. [ Neil  Dec 31, 2015 ]
Really scared off by consistent reviews of other mfrs with display washout problems in bright sun. Also wanted HD radio and hands free calling. Great deal on scratch and dent. Hopefully it lives up to expectations. [ Jason  Dec 18, 2015 ]
This was my second Alpine 148BT. I bought one for myself and then my wife. Can't say enough good things about it. The best feature is the speaker phone function. Most people can't tell I'm not talking on the handset. [ Derek  Dec 14, 2015 ]

Thanks for your question. There is no remote included. You can check on the main product page under "What's in the Box". We do have two optional remotes available. I've linked both below. Hope this helps. [ Kenny  Dec 03, 2016 ]  Staff
I have an iPhone 5S and it paired after a couple of tries. Not unusual with BT devices. [ JEANNE H  Oct 06, 2016 ]
Yes if it has blue tooth [ Kim  Oct 05, 2016 ]
It does pair with my iPhone 6s released at the same time, and does audio and calling features. I would assume the SE model iPhone would be no different. [ JOHN P  Oct 05, 2016 ]
im not tech savvy with details. I can tell you it works with latest iPhones . Sound is equal or better than when you plug in with lightning cable. Also volume boost so bluetooth is louder than lightning cable direct. I use this in my Porsche. I don't think it could sound any better. I fi can help.. steve at lords nursery dot com [ steve  Sep 24, 2016 ]
This receiver doesnot have aptX support. For a list of receivers that support aptX see the aptx web site. That being said, I am very happy with this receiver. I can connect via Bluetooth for both audio and phone with no problems. I use it to stream XM Radio from my phone via the XM mobile app and it sounds quite good. [ Jose  Sep 24, 2016 ]
It has Bluetooth v 2.1, It does not have apyX [ John  Sep 24, 2016 ]
Although you can change the color of the buttons, you can't change the color of the display which is always white. It was annoying at first, but I now got used to it and it blends very nicely with the amber color of the rest of my 1995 BMW dashboard. [ Jose  Sep 24, 2016 ]
The option allows you to modify the color glow of the buttons on the unit. You can use it to match other dashboard lights. I personally settled on blue as it was easier on the eyes at night and still visible in daytime. [ Gary  Aug 02, 2016 ]
Hi, Scott I'm really not clear on the question you ask about the USB. I always use the one in the front or Bluetooth. [ STEVEN  Mar 31, 2016 ]
Yes. It is recommended that you permanently plug a USB extension from the back of the unit in order to have it available within your cabin (mine reaches to the rear seat). Hope this helps. [ BILL  Mar 30, 2016 ]
The USB cable is about a meter long and attached to the back of the unit. You can use one of the, really trick, cables available that has an adapter on it to mount it in your dash or console. You can also run it to your glove box or do like I did and run it to your ash tray or other storage compartment. Sky's the limit. [ CHUCK  Mar 29, 2016 ]
Hi Scott, My Name is Ryan and I bought this unit a few months back for my Nissan frontier. The usb cable does indeed come out from the back of the unit. I ended up cutting a hole in the back of the plastic adapter kit tray so that the cord (which is about 6 inches long or so) is fed out into the cubby below the stereo. It works well for my purposes, but it is a "creative fix" nonetheless. Hope this helps! [ Ryan  Mar 29, 2016 ]
There Is a USB port on the right side of the front face of the unit. It has a small plastic door that opens up. [ Bradley  Mar 29, 2016 ]
I purchased the optional usb plug and drilled a hole in my console. It fit perfect and looks like it's part of the original equipment. The adapter is listed under "accessories" on the webpage for the HD148BT [ Leonard  Mar 29, 2016 ]

Not in a boat, but the screen is very hard to see if bright sunlight hits it. [ CRAIG  Mar 16, 2015 ]
I do not have a boat but I did mount one of the three of these that I have bought face straight up with a boat cover over it in a John Deere 2554 forestry machine and I have not noticed a problem, it is in the left arm rest so I look almost straight down on it. [ NATHAN  Mar 10, 2015 ]
    it works with my note 3 [ CHRIS M  Feb 14, 2015 ]
I would assume it would work fine. I have an iPhone so I can't confirm that. [ Dustin  Feb 13, 2015 ]
Well I can't explicitly state that it works with the Galaxy Note 4, I can state that does work for Galaxy Note 3 although I am unsure which version of Bluetooth my Note 3 operates. [ JAMES Z  Feb 13, 2015 ]
I'm sorry your having trouble but I use an IPhone when its plugged in it automatically comes on when I turn radio to Pandora. Pandora must already be set up on your phone also. Hope this helps [ JOSEPH  Dec 24, 2014 ]
I had to reset the head unit, behind the removable face plate there is a reset button. Try that hope that helps. [ ROBERT  Dec 15, 2014 ]
    Sorry, I haven't synced up anything, I sold the vehicle. [ Charles  Dec 11, 2014 ]
Yes. .I had issues with that as well. I erased my phone from the Alpine altogether and re linked it. It isa bit slow connecting and will stay on the no Pandora screen for 15 to 30 seconds before connecting. [ JAMES Z  Dec 11, 2014 ]
Sorry Dude, Don't have an S4 and don't use Pandora. Good luck! [ TOM  Dec 11, 2014 ]

Can you run 2 ohm infinity speakers off the head unit [ larry  Sep 10, 2014 ]
Firmware updates to this unit will be handled through the USB interface. [ Jeff  Dec 03, 2013 ]  Staff
It's the correct answer, but not a good one! [ Rhoda  Dec 26, 2013 ]
Clock only shows when radio is on and only shows on pg 1 of channel screen view. Bottom right corner of screen. There is no clock on pg 2 or 3 of HD info stream. [ JOSEPH  Dec 24, 2013 ]
You are able to see the clock by pressing on the eyeball looking button. It is next to the 1 for radio station presets. As you press the eyeball button it shows the different views. Examples of the different ones are clock, artist, song, album, playlist. It is kind of annoying that the clock isn't always on, because I do like to see what the artist is, but I have gotten used to it. The radio itself is very good. As for the clock when the radio is off; I am not really sure because I always have the radio on. Good luck and I hope this helps. [ TOM J  Dec 02, 2013 ]
Hello Rhonda, I have had 2 of these alpine's radios and I love them. If your radio is off and clock is set it will display also you can check the time at anytime by pressing the display button. The installation book has tons of helpful hints and different features. Hope this helps you with your decision. [ CHRIS M  Dec 02, 2013 ]
From the owners manual you are able to set the time on the head unit. It could be that in the pictures the time was never set. I am currently unable to verify this on my head unit, as i am out of town. When you mean that the time doesn't display when the radio is off does that mean when the head unit is turned off or if there is no music playing. There are only videos of the cde-149bt on youtube but it does show the time when there is no music playing so i would imagine that the 148bt would be similar to that. [ MARK  Dec 02, 2013 ]
Thanks everyone. The reason I ask this question as I have a Subaru Outback with the factory HK system and when on the fringe of of the FM channel I mostly listen to, it will switch back and forth between regular FM and HD. One notices not only the change in sound quality but also a difference in perceived volume. I was all set to get this HU regardless until I noticed that it does;t have RDS. Geeze, I though just about every mid-range and above had RDS bit not Alpine. I would go with Kenwood but hate their clumsy user interface. [ Stuart  Nov 20, 2013 ]
I really have not experimented that much with the AM HD feature. Usually I am listening to CD's or FM broadcast. I'm not in my vehicle very often, just occasional running around town. [ Charles  Nov 20, 2013 ]
That is a good guestion. I have noticed that as well but have not found a solution. I live in an area where the comercial radio is just about worthless, so i mainly keep to satelite or use a thumb drive with ripped music on it. I really wish the source button would only display those sources that are currently attached. Ie:dont want to have to scroll through aux if there is nothing connected to aux. Sorry i wasnt anymore help, hopefully we'll both find answers to our questions [ JAMES Z  Nov 20, 2013 ]
The simple answer is "no", but switching is not necessary because HD Radio means "Hybrid Digital", not "High Definition." From Wikipedia: HD Radio is the trademark for iBiquity's in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital radio technology used by AM and FM radio stations to transmit audio and data by using a digital signal embedded "on-frequency" immediately above and below a station's standard analog signal, providing the means to listen to the same program in either HD (digital radio with less noise) or as a standard broadcast (analog radio with standard sound quality). The HD format also provides the means for a single radio station to simultaneously broadcast one or more different programs in addition to the program being transmitted on the radio station's analog channel. I regularly tune into the addition channels that are available. Great feature. [ IVORY COAST  Nov 20, 2013 ]
Hi Stuart, I've never had to worry about your problem. I stay around the San Diego area and reception is very good. I mostly listen to XM wheni I'm driving. Wish I could help you. Frank in Sunny San Diego [ FRANK  Nov 20, 2013 ]
